- Hey y'all!
0:01
I've got, I don't know if it's sweet,
0:04
it's kind, it's thoughtful, it's funny,
0:07
but I've got a message for y'all today.
0:12
I had a strawberry and cream pie on the website.
0:17
And when these get put on, I'm not doing the typing.
0:24
So it can go up any, so screwed up, y'all.
0:28
So messed up.
0:30
I hate when that happens because I don't wanna
0:33
pass along anything that doesn't work for y'all.
0:37
Whether it's my fault, their fault,
0:39
or whoever's fault it is, it doesn't matter.
0:42
It should never happen.
0:44
But I've got a friend out there that I've never met.
0:48
And her name is Courtney Lee.
0:52
Courtney followed the directions
0:55
that I had for the strawberry cream pie.
0:58
It failed.
1:01
And Courtney fixed it.
1:03
And she sent out a message to y'all
1:06
saying this recipe that I'm gonna give you, the amounts,
1:12
that will take it from failure to a hero.
1:18
So Courtney, thank you, honey.
1:21
If I'm not aware of something wrong I can't fix it.
1:24
So I appreciate you caring enough
1:26
and taking the time to help me get that fixed.
1:31
You're sweet.
1:32
And after you got all the measurements correct,
1:37
it's got a lot of five stars on it.
1:39
So thank you, girl.
1:41
So put that in your trash pile if it's the original recipe
1:47
and only use the one that Courtney has fixed.
1:53
So thank you, Courtney.
1:57
So we've got an eight ounce package
1:58
of softened cream cheese,
2:00
a stick of butter that's at room temperature.
2:04
We've got a cup and a half of powdered sugar.
2:07
We have one cup of a frozen whipped topping.
2:12
We've got a teaspoon of vanilla
2:14
and we've got two teaspoons of sugar.
2:17
So what we're gonna do is we're gonna
2:21
beat all this up until it's fluffy.
2:26
And then we're gonna put it into a prepared pie crust.
2:30
Now you can use, like I'm gonna use
2:32
a graham cracker which is really good.
2:35
Or if you have a frozen pastry, or you wanna
2:38
make your own crust, that's up to you.
2:42
So any kind of crust.
2:45
You could even do a chocolate crust.
2:48
If you like chocolate and strawberries.
2:51
So.
2:53
Here we go.
2:57
In the bowl and I'm gonna mix these two first.
3:01
Since they're the harder of our ingredients.
3:07
Can see Theresa had these at room temperature,
3:11
so they are mixing together.
3:15
Just perfect.
3:22
All right, now we're gonna add
3:23
the cup and a half of powdered sugar.
3:27
All right, now I'm gonna add my teaspoon of vanilla.
3:31
Why do they make these so hard to stand up?
3:33
I don't know.
3:35
So a teaspoon of vanilla.
3:40
And then I'm gonna add my two teaspoons of sugar.
3:46
And then I'm gonna add my cup of...
3:49
Whoops.
3:51
I'm going to use my cup of...
3:58
How come they...
3:59
Look, that makes me so mad.
4:02
- [Theresa] I don't know why.
4:03
- I don't know why they don't
4:04
make it where they won't stand up.
4:08
All right, and this is a cup of my frozen whipped topping.
4:18
And we're just gonna beat all this together
4:19
and then we're gonna put it in our crust.
4:22
And we're gonna let it set.
4:28
The recipe that was printed, y'all,
4:31
on the website had raw eggs in it.
4:36
And I don't know why in the world you would find
4:39
a need to put raw eggs in this refrigerated pie.
4:46
Okay.
4:49
And this dessert is so easy.
4:52
And when we get through putting the strawberries on.
4:59
It's gonna be, look look!
5:01
The butter packet was stuck to my...
5:03
(Paula laughs)
5:10
Okay, so I think that's all we need.
5:15
Theresa's filming today, y'all, instead of Eddie.
5:21
- [Theresa] And Eddie is much better at this, so please-
5:24
- No he is not!
5:25
- [Theresa] He is.
5:26
He's very good at this.
5:28
- No, listen, you've been at it a long time too.
5:31
You be good too.
5:37
Doesn't that look pretty?
5:44
Tastes pretty too.
5:50
I was gonna say something, now what was I gonna say?
5:52
- [Theresa] Tell them what Eddie's doing.
5:53
- Oh yeah, that's what I was going to do.
5:56
So y'all.
6:00
My first time searching for wallpaper.
6:05
I immediately found the one I wanted.
6:09
And I didn't look any further.
6:12
Well Eddie did some research.
6:17
And come to find out, he came back and said Paula,
6:19
that's $1,000 a roll and you need 22 rolls.
6:23
I said well we're not getting that wallpaper.
6:27
And Eddie said Paula, I can paint that on the walls.
6:32
I said well that's wonderful.
6:34
You know, he graduated from SCAD which is an art school.
6:39
So he started painting, putting the wallpaper
6:43
on my bathroom walls through the brushes of paint.
6:51
So I can't wait to show y'all when he's through.
6:54
We've kind of gotten behind on him
6:56
having time to get in there and paint.
6:58
So that's what he's doing today
7:00
and he passed the camera on to Theresa.
7:03
I cannot wait to show y'all what
7:05
Eddie has done when he's through.
7:08
The rate we're going though it may be a while.
7:12
Look at that.
7:13
Look at that.
7:15
Beautiful filling.
7:19
And I don't think, how long does it say
7:21
for us to refrigerate it, Theresa?
7:23
- [Theresa] It just needs to set for about 30 minutes.
7:25
- [Paula] Yeah, I was gonna say,
7:26
I don't think this is gonna...
7:29
- [Theresa] And then we can put the toppings on it.
7:31
- [Paula] Take that long.
7:33
- [Theresa] But then it does have to go
7:34
in the refrigerator for about four hours.
7:36
- Yeah.
7:39
This is a nice summer dessert, y'all.
7:43
You don't have to turn on your oven to make it.
7:47
- [Theresa] Paula, this is actually
7:48
gonna air the week of 4th of July.
7:50
- Oh gosh!
7:51
- [Theresa] What a great-
7:52
- This is perfect.
7:54
You know, I'm celebrating the 4th of July.
8:01
On the cover of one of my magazines that's
8:04
really been good to me and that's Woman's World.
8:09
And it should be coming out any minute.
8:12
You know, they bring them out early.
8:15
They don't wait 'til the 4th of July
8:17
to bring them out, but there's some good recipes
8:20
in that magazine, so keep an eye out for it.
8:23
I hope you like it.
8:25
Okay.
8:27
(water running)
8:28
In the refrigerator this goes.
8:33
And I'll peep in on it in about 45 minutes.
8:38
So now we're fixing to do our layering.
8:41
And I'm gonna do it just like Courtney
8:45
recommended in her redo of this.
8:48
I'm gonna layer it with sliced strawberries.
8:52
A layer of whipped cream.
8:55
And I'm using the real deal whipped cream.
9:01
And for every cup of cream that I use,
9:06
I like to use a fourth of a cup of sugar to sweeten it.
9:12
So I'm just gonna make sure this is a fourth of a cup.
9:16
- [Theresa] She doesn't trust my measuring.
9:18
- No, I mean, it's so easy. - I'm kidding.
9:20
- Your measuring and my measuring.
9:22
But that, yeah, that's a fourth of a cup.
9:27
So I'm gonna beat this a little bit.
9:33
So we're just gonna start layering.
9:38
Which way do I wanna point them?
9:41
I think maybe like that don't you?
9:45
Almost feel like I need tweezers.
9:47
(Paula chuckles)
9:49
Least I get these all screwed up.
10:01
- [Theresa] Paula, while you do that.
10:02
- Yes.
10:03
- [Theresa] I'm gonna take a break
10:04
so we can check on what's in the oven.
10:05
- Okay, perfect.
10:07
I'm not having to be as particular.
10:11
With the inside like I was on the outside
10:14
because we're gonna cover it with whipped cream.
10:22
Oh my gracious.
10:26
This is so pretty.
10:35
And I can't use but half that whipped cream
10:37
because we're gonna put another layer of strawberries.
10:52
Another lawyer of strawberries, so I'm gonna
10:54
need more whipped cream for the next layer.
11:07
Okay.
11:15
All right, so to me what makes this
11:18
so great for the 4th of July, Theresa,
11:21
is you could always come in with some blueberries.
11:25
I mean to me this is pretty with just strawberries,
11:27
but you could come in with blueberries
11:29
and have the red, white, and blue.
11:41
I forgot to put the strawberries in the center.
11:44
That's all right.
11:46
That is all right, Paula Ann, you just keep...
11:50
- [Theresa] We were so busy talking about blueberries.
11:52
- And laughing.
11:54
Lord have mercy.
11:58
- [Theresa] Well that's one thing I love
11:59
that you show is it's okay to mess up.
12:01
- [Paula] It is okay to mess up.
12:02
- [Theresa] and this isn't gonna taste any worse.
12:05
It's actually gonna be better.
12:09
- [Paula] You know, stuff happens.
12:11
It just happens.
12:13
Sometimes, girly.
12:16
All right, now I wonder what I need to do
12:18
if I need to just cap it with some
12:19
pretty whole strawberries or, let's see.
12:24
- [Theresa] I was gonna tell you, if you wanted
12:25
to do your sliced strawberries around we could
12:29
take a second and I could get you some blueberries.
12:31
And we have fresh blueberries.
12:33
- Oh do we have some here?
12:34
- [Theresa] We do, yes.
12:35
- Yay!
12:36
- [Theresa] So we'll be right back.
12:38
- Yes, I think that would be wonderful.
12:39
So I'm gonna keep doing...
12:43
I'm gonna just keep doing this.
12:45
All right.
12:48
Courtney, Courtney, Courtney.
12:49
Thank you for giving a girl a hand.
12:54
This pie is beautiful.
12:56
Like I said, perfect for the 4th of July.
13:00
The longest part is just putting your strawberries around
13:04
trying to keep them even, but look how beautiful it looks.
13:09
It looks like a flower that's in bloom.
13:11
And Teresa had blueberries.
13:14
So now we've got the red, the white, and the blue.
13:24
I am so happy and thrilled.
13:28
To celebrate the 4th of July, y'all.
13:35
There's a lot of men and women out there that fight.
13:42
For us and our freedom.
13:46
And.
13:49
To me the 4th of July represents our freedom.
13:54
So isn't that pretty?
13:57
Can you get over it?
13:58
- [Theresa] Oh yeah.
14:00
Look how gorgeous.
14:02
And now-
14:03
- [Paula] The best part is it's gonna taste so good.
14:07
- [Theresa] But you have to wait now.
14:08
- [Paula] Yes we do.
14:10
- [Theresa] Tell them how long.
14:13
- Two hours?
14:15
- [Theresa] Take that up some.
14:17
- Three hours?
14:18
- [Theresa] No, actually they recommend six hours.
14:20
Four to six hours for it to set.
14:22
- We'll be sleeping in six hours.
14:25
- [Theresa] We won't.
14:26
- Well that is just beautiful.
14:32
Beautiful beautiful.
14:33
And if I say so myself, for me and Courtney.
14:36
Courtney Lou.
14:39
It's time to cut the strawberry and cream pie.
14:44
Thank you for fixing the recipe.
14:48
That was on the web.
14:52
I appreciate it so much.
14:56
I think it said to leave this in the fridge
14:59
for like six hours, you know, to let it set.
15:03
But.
15:06
I think it's been about six hours now.
15:08
All I got to do is find my pie scooper.
15:11
So you can see why I said this would be
15:13
a wonderful 4th of July dessert.
15:17
I was lucky enough that Theresa had some blueberries.
15:21
And these beautiful strawberries, it looks like a starburst.
15:26
And let's just hopefully.
15:30
That it tastes as good as it looks.
15:37
These crusts can be hard to cut all the way through.
15:44
And remember how I told y'all I cut the tinfoil
15:48
to get that first piece out a little easier?
15:56
(Paula laughs)
15:58
I think it's ready.
16:02
How's that for a beautiful slice of pie?
16:08
I'm gonna steal a blueberry or two.
16:13
Red, white, and blue.
16:15
God bless you.
16:22
Really looks good doesn't it?
16:26
The last layer on top is the sweetened whipped cream.
16:36
- Courtney Lou!
16:39
It's delicious and I can't
16:41
thank you enough, girl, for helping me.
16:44
I need all my friends' eyes on everything to help me.
16:51
Mmm-mmm-mmm!
16:55
I wanna go back and give Michael a bite of this.
16:58
He's gonna love it.
17:03
So fresh.
17:05
So summery tasting.
17:10
And we made this without turning on our oven.
17:16
Which is great because when it's 100 degrees outside
17:20
the last thing I wanna do is turn on my oven.
17:24
So I send y'all a whole bunch of love and best dishes.
17:31
I think if you make this for the 4th of July
17:34
celebration nobody will be disappointed.
17:39
So there you go.
17:41
Love and best dishes, y'all.
