- Y'all have heard me say so many times,
0:03
how much I enjoy hearing from y'all
0:06
and you sharing recipes that mean a lot to you
0:11
And I got the sweetest letter from Sean Conant,
0:19
Is that how you would pronounce it?
0:20
- [Eddie] Sounds, sounds right.
0:21
- But he says, thank you.
0:24
This is to Ms.Feuger to Theresa.
0:27
He says, thank you for helping Paula Dean
0:29
film her YouTube cooking show.
0:32
My fiancé Logan and I enjoy watching you, Paula and Eddie
0:37
And we're from New Hampshire, just like Eddie.
0:41
He said, I'm submitting a recipe
0:43
for you to consider for Paula's show.
0:45
It's a very honest recipe that my Grammy Peg used to make.
0:52
It's very easy to make and absolutely delicious,
0:55
and Grammy Peg passed away in 2016.
0:59
But we think of her very often
1:01
and we keep her memory alive with her recipes like this one.
1:06
And that's what it's all about y'all,
1:11
keeping those memories alive.
1:15
And I've got a stray cat
1:16
that's wanting to get up here in the picture.
1:23
So like I said, that's, that's what it's all about.
1:29
Keepin those memories up front in our head.
1:32
So I'm going to share with y'all this cake recipe
1:36
and it's Grammy Peg's Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake.
1:42
And I know we've all probably made a dump cake
1:47
at one point in our lives
1:50
And you know, you can change them around.
1:53
Well, this one calls for cherry pie filling
1:57
and crushed pineapple,
2:00
but Sean tells me to make sure
2:06
I drain the pineapple real good.
2:11
And this is, you're going to notice,
2:15
the only thing I'm going to have to mess up y'all
2:17
is that colander right there.
2:21
No dishes for us'uns.
2:28
- [Eddie] Have you made something similar to this?
2:34
and easy dessert go-to,
2:38
these are always great Eddie.
2:42
Now I have, I used a spray,
2:49
on my dish so it won't stick.
2:55
I love cherry pie filling.
2:56
I love to make fried cherry pies.
2:59
Oh, they are so delicious.
3:04
Alright, we're just gonna spread that out evenly.
3:10
Then we're gonna add our pineapple.
3:17
Gonna just give this pineapple a mash
3:22
to make sure it's drained well,
3:25
because that's what Grammy Peg told us to do.
3:38
I love a good, easy, quick recipe like this one,
3:42
cause you never know,
3:46
especially when you have kids,
3:49
who they gonna be bringing home with em.
3:53
Okay, so now we're just going to take our cake mix
4:00
and we are using just a yellow moist cake, cake mix,
4:07
and we're going to sprinkle this over our fruit.
4:21
Simple, simple, simple.
4:27
And we just want to make sure
4:28
that we level it out after we get it in our pan.
4:37
- [Eddie] No eggs, no oil?
4:38
- [Paula] No eggs, no oil, no nothing Eddie.
4:41
- [Eddie] Mmm, can't wait to see.
4:46
or at least the ones I've had that are similar
4:52
- [Eddie] So this is similar
4:53
to how you would do your cobblers a little bit right?
4:56
- [Paula] Well, no, not kinda really.
5:01
You make for our cobblers, we make a batter.
5:06
- [Eddie] The batter,
5:07
and you add the dry ingredients.
5:08
- [Paula] Uh-huh. And then, we melt a stick of butter
5:17
Okie-doke. Now here comes the part
5:23
that makes berry berry good.
5:30
Calls for 12 tablespoons of melted butter
5:37
and Sean says if you'll stick your butter in the freezer,
5:41
then it'll slice much, much easier.
5:47
So we're just gonna distribute this evenly.
5:54
My cuttin board's dancin on me.
6:13
Is that two layers or one?
6:36
Okay, so this is gonna have plenty of butter.
6:42
that was just a half a stick right there.
6:46
- [Eddie] It's like a piece of butter per slice.
6:49
- [Paula] Yes, that's right Eddie.
6:56
Just the way we like it.
7:04
It does make it much easier,
7:07
I probably didn't have this butter in the freezer
7:10
but maybe about 15 minutes.
7:14
I've got a frog in my throat this morning.
7:17
I wish he'll hop on out.
7:35
I'm liking this a lot.
7:38
I think the dump cakes I've made in the past,
7:42
seems like I've poured melted butter on it.
7:46
I don't think I used it like this in pats.
7:52
I really like using the pats
7:56
because you, you know you're gettin it
8:03
I like it, I like it a lot.
8:09
- [Theresa] So see you even learn something new-
8:12
- [Theresa] -with the cake that you've made a lot.
8:13
- [Paula] That's right.
8:14
- [Theresa] That's kind of cool.
8:15
- [Paula] It is way cool.
8:17
Like I said, I just love to know what other folks are
8:21
doing out there because we fall into these habits
8:26
of doing things just one way.
8:30
And you know, we say, well, that's the way you do it.
8:36
But when you get with other people
8:40
and talk with other people,
8:41
you realize there, there is other ways.
8:47
So in the oven this goes,
8:49
let's see what Sean said, 350
8:53
for 50 minutes or until golden brown.
9:00
Doesn't that look good?
9:04
- I like me a butter cake.
9:11
Our dump cake is ready.
9:20
When you cook in a glass dish, they're so heavy.
9:23
I always feel like I'm gonna drop it,
9:27
like it's going to slip out of my hand.
9:29
Ooh, it's a bubblin an' a sizzlin.
9:43
- [Eddie] I think we need to scoop some out
9:44
to see what it looks like.
9:47
- [Theresa] What about that over ice cream,
9:49
or ice cream over that?
9:51
- [Paula] Yeah I was gonna say, ice cream over that.
10:01
I think the idea is to let this cool.
10:05
- [Theresa] When have we ever done that?
10:15
Look, you can see every place that
10:17
that butter melted did y'all.
10:19
(Paula and Eddie chuckling)
10:20
- [Theresa] Was it enough for ya?
10:23
I mean, it could have stood a little bit more in places
10:31
Cherries and pineapple.
10:52
I almost can't taste it,
10:53
but I think it's real good Theresa.
10:56
- [Theresa] I was gonna say-
10:57
- You got a tougher mouth than me?
10:59
- [Theresa] Probably, but I don't know that I wanna burn it.
11:03
- [Eddie] Well it smells fabulous.
11:04
- Doesn't it smell so good?
11:09
- [Theresa] Maybe if you took
11:10
a little bit smaller piece Paula.
11:15
- I know it, princess bites Paula, princess bites.
11:18
- I'm going to do it right here.
11:20
Cause you know, I love the cherry.
11:23
- Like that's a princess bite.
11:26
- And I love the cake part
11:29
and all that butter on it.
11:41
- [Theresa] Oh it's good.
11:44
- [Theresa] I'm a huge cherry fan.
11:48
- I like cherries too.
11:50
- [Theresa] Yeah, but when this cools off just a little
11:56
- Yes, to put a scoop of ice cream on this while it's hot.
12:00
The ice cream would melt,
12:01
and then you'd have like a milkshake dump cake.
12:07
- [Theresa] That is good.
12:08
I haven't found a dessert I don't like yet.
12:11
- Sean thank you so much
12:13
for sending us Grammy Peg's recipe
12:19
and just keep her memories alive hon,
12:24
pass them on to your children.
