- Boy howdy, y'all. This recipe
0:04
just brings back so many memories to me.
0:11
Before, this was going on before I met Michael
0:15
and I lived in that gated community
0:17
next door to us now. And
0:22
once a month on a Sunday
0:27
we would have a birthday party
0:30
for whomever's birthday was in that particular month.
0:34
And we would have such a good time.
0:37
That was before we had any children.
0:41
No grandchildren, it was just all of us big kids.
0:46
And we'd do all these little silly, goofy games.
0:50
And one game that we did,
0:52
it was you take your baseball bat
0:54
and you go round and round
0:55
and round and round and round.
0:56
Oops, I'm about to...
1:01
And then you tried to run.
1:05
Well that particular day
1:07
I was having a margarita with everybody else
1:13
and I'm out there playing and you know, watching
1:16
and all of a sudden, Daniel, our son-in-law,
1:21
spun around and spun around and spun around
1:27
and my drink went up in the air
1:29
and I was not even using a paper cup,
1:32
I was using a real glass.
1:35
I'm telling you what.
1:39
So if Michelle and Daniel was there,
1:41
I would have been seeing Michael at that time,
1:43
otherwise, Michelle and Daniel wouldn't have been there.
1:46
But my nephew, Jay, Corrie's brother,
1:54
hamburgers for this particular birthday celebration.
1:58
And I said, but I wanna jazz it up a little bit.
2:03
So I did. I took my hamburger meat, I added salt,
2:11
I added a little pepper,
2:14
I added a little garlic powder.
2:20
And now I always now use onion powder too,
2:23
because I just like the way it does.
2:28
now what can I do that'll make this real special?
2:33
And I thought, you know, I love butter.
2:35
I love butter a lot. (chuckles)
2:38
And I think this would be real good with some
2:40
real cold butter cubed up and put in our burgers.
2:49
my nephew, Jay, was really watching his weight.
2:54
And he was so beautiful,
2:56
he was such a beautiful young man.
2:59
And they didn't get any more handsome than Jay Hiers.
3:05
And so he came in and he,
3:09
I had the burgers all patted out, y'all.
3:12
And he looked at them and he said,
3:15
"Aunt Paula, what is that?".
3:18
And Corrie, his sister, my niece said,
3:23
"Don't tell him it's butter, tell him it's garlic".
3:26
So I don't lie good but I said, "Uh, it's garlic Jay".
3:32
So he came back after we got through eating,
3:35
he said, "Aunt Paula, that was the best hamburger
3:39
I've ever eaten in my whole life".
3:41
I said, "Well I'm so glad,
3:43
garlic can really make it good".
3:46
God love him. And we lost Jay some years back,
3:53
but he was beautiful young man.
3:56
So I have those memories of him.
4:00
So we just gonna pat it out
4:01
and I try to stick the butter,
4:05
you know, inside, get it inside the hamburger meat
4:12
so it won't just melt and run off.
4:18
So you just kind of have to finesse it in there.
4:28
Just like that. And we cook those,
4:31
Michael cooked them on the grill
4:37
But I'm just gonna cook these in the air fryer
4:41
because they turn out beautiful in the air fryer.
4:45
So that's what I'm gonna do.
4:48
Like I said, you just have to finesse it
4:50
and keep that butter,
4:52
try to keep it within that hamburger meat.
4:58
Because when we bite into it,
5:00
we want that butter to turn loose in our mouth,
5:04
not in the pan while it's cooking.
5:09
Okay. I got four patties
5:13
out of that pound of hamburger meat, y'all.
5:15
So like I said, I'm just gonna throw these
5:19
'cause it makes it so much easier
5:22
than having to get out there in the heat.
5:25
Toot-toot! (laughing)
5:28
For my buns, sometimes I will,
5:31
you know, butter them
5:33
and do them in a skillet on the stove.
5:36
But you know, I really kinda like them
5:37
just wrapped in tinfoil and heated,
5:41
they just have a tendency to stay softer.
5:45
So that's what I'm gonna do.
5:47
And I'll throw this in the air fryer
5:50
when we get closer to the hamburgers being done.
5:54
Well are y'all ready for the best burger
5:56
you will ever eat in your whole life?
6:05
And you know, you can't have a
6:07
hamburger without cheese on it, can you? And
6:13
I use Swiss cheese on top of my burger.
6:17
Oh and that bun is hot all the way through.
6:23
Yum. Wait, I think I may do this first.
6:30
I always offer an array,
6:33
you know, your mustard, ketchup,
6:34
your mayonnaise and your relish.
6:37
And if you're ever in one of our restaurants,
6:40
in the store I have some incredibly delicious mustards.
6:45
This one's a horseradish.
6:46
All right, so since it's Memorial Day,
6:48
we're doing paper plates, honey.
6:54
So I'm using a beautiful butter lettuce
6:59
for my burger because eating butter lettuce,
7:04
to me it chews so easily.
7:08
I mean, it's just like butter.
7:12
Go down like butter? - Yes. It's very smooth.
7:15
- Yes. And I'm gonna put me
7:23
and a couple of pickles.
7:29
I'm gonna put me a little pinch of bacon.
7:34
Oh and don't forget the hamburger.
7:40
I'm not gonna be able to get this in my mouth, Eddie.
7:46
I bet you're thinking, "Oh yes you can Paula".
7:56
Look at that burger, would you?
8:01
I think I'm gonna need a moment.
8:21
Butter in the burger, butter lettuce,
8:25
cheese, tomato, onions, pickles. Mm.
8:35
So if you're gonna be grilling out on Memorial Day,
8:38
you'll have to remember this little trick
8:42
because it's good and everybody would love it.
8:46
You could even, if you're into frozen patties,
8:48
you could buy some frozen patties,
8:51
let them thaw, stick some butter in those.
8:57
Love and best dishes, y'all.
