All right, we've got all this wonderful honey in the kitchen
0:06
and I want to make something, not that has honey in it,
0:10
but something we can drizzle the honey over.
0:14
And what better drizzler-maker can I do
0:17
than a sweet potato biscuit.
0:20
I'm gonna start by sifting one and 1/4 cups
0:24
of self-rising flour, with two heaping tablespoons of sugar,
0:36
And I'm just gonna take my spatula
0:39
and run those through the netting.
0:42
And there we go, we've got a nice, fine mixture
0:48
Now over here, I'm gonna mix 3/4 of a cup
0:52
of mashed, cook sweet potatoes.
0:57
And I'm gonna take a half a stick
1:01
of room-temperature, softened butter
1:06
and I'm gonna blend those together.
1:10
I'm gonna bring this over and add this to our flour mixture.
1:21
Now I'm just gonna cut this buttered,
1:24
sweet potato into our flour,
1:26
just like you were making a biscuit
1:29
with just shortening or butter.
1:32
You want to just cut it in.
1:35
And now I'm gonna take 1/4 of a cup of milk
1:40
and work that into our mixture.
1:48
Now I'm gonna take some self-rising flour
1:54
and put on my cutting board.
1:57
And I'm gonna scoop my biscuit mix into that flour.
2:06
And I'm gonna give it some toss-arounds in that flour,
2:16
because the milk had our dough real soft.
2:25
So I'm gonna just knead that dough in that flour
2:31
until our dough is the right consistency.
2:34
So I'm gonna take the rolling pin
2:38
and I'm gonna roll these out.
2:41
And, you know, depending on the thickness
2:45
that you want for a biscuit,
2:47
I kind of like mine a little on the thicker side.
2:51
Biscuit cutters can come in all different shapes
2:55
and sizes as far as that goes.
2:58
So it just depends on how big you want your biscuit to be.
3:02
I kind of like the medium size so I can have two of 'em.
3:06
I feel like they're not that big, so I can have two.
3:10
So I'm gonna choose this cutter.
3:15
And you'll want to take your biscuit cutter
3:19
and dip it in your flour,
3:23
so your biscuit will pop right out of there.
3:30
All right, and you can see that I'm gonna be
3:34
cooking my biscuits today on a black, cast iron skillet,
3:40
and this is my hoe cake maker, that I'm putting these on.
3:47
It's just the perfect piece of equipment.
3:56
The perfect amount for that pan.
4:01
All right, now I have some melted butter back here.
4:09
And I'm just gonna brush the tops of my biscuits
4:14
with this real, real butter.
4:20
That butter is gonna make those biscuits golden
4:24
and give it some more butter flavor.
4:29
Into the oven 450 degrees.
4:36
but I'm gonna keep a close eye on those biscuits
4:40
'cause I don't want 'em to cook
4:42
and get too brown on the bottom
4:44
and not be brown enough on top.
4:47
My thoughts are on that sweet potato biscuit
4:50
because I do want to eat it while it's hot.
4:55
Look at that beautiful biscuit.
5:00
And that yummy honey-butter.
5:09
Come here Cody, you want a biscuit?
