0:01
- Hey y'all, welcome into my kitchen.
0:02
I am gonna make the most delicious, delicious dessert today
0:09
and I'd be willing to bet that y'all all
0:12
might have this recipe, but I still wanted to share it
0:16
just in case there's one person out there
0:19
that'd never heard of it, and that recipe
0:22
is Mountain Dew Cobbler.
0:25
You wouldn't think about putting Mountain Dew
0:27
in your cobbler, would you?
0:29
No, I hadn't, the only liquid I'd ever put
0:32
in a cobbler was milk, so this really intrigued me.
0:37
Now the recipe calls for two cans of crescent rolls,
0:41
and you can see I floured my cutting board a little bit
0:47
so that my crescent rolls wouldn't stick,
0:52
and I've just, I'm cutting them apart at the seam,
0:59
just like that.
1:03
And then I'm gonna take my apple,
1:05
calls for two apples, in quarters,
1:09
you want eight pieces from an apple,
1:12
because that's how many dough strips you have.
1:16
So I've already done some of 'em,
1:19
'cause I had a feeling y'all didn't wanna watch me
1:21
wrap 16 pieces of apple.
1:30
So you wanna start at the big end,
1:33
and just roll, roll, and then you wanna put it
1:35
seam side down in your casserole dish,
1:39
and I sprayed this with a nonstick spray,
1:46
just in case it wanted to stick.
1:50
Perfect, that dish is perfect for 16 of those.
1:54
All right now, I've got a cup of melted butter,
1:57
and I have got a cup and a half of sugar,
2:05
so I'm just gonna mix those together,
2:08
and then I have my cinnamon, that looks like
2:09
about two teaspoons, I think, right, Theresa?
2:14
- [Theresa] Yes.
2:15
- 'Cause Theresa measured all that for me,
2:18
so we're just gonna mix that up, and oh my goodness.
2:22
- Mmm, my favorite things. - That cinnamon.
2:25
- [Theresa] Butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
2:27
- Oh, and did I tell you this?
2:33
One serving has 612 calories.
2:37
Wait, I think Lulu's knocking.
2:40
No, you're not going in there, no, no!
2:42
Come on back in here. - Come here, Lulu.
2:44
- She wants to get in that living room
2:46
because I bet she wants to pee-pee.
2:48
- [Theresa] Come here, Lulu.
2:50
Come here, Lulu.
2:52
- All right. - That's a rough job.
2:56
- But I mean, like 612 calories, y'all,
2:59
that is a lot.
3:01
- [Eddie] You mean for just one little?
3:02
- [Paula] For one serving,
3:03
but I don't know how much?
3:06
- [Eddie] Are two crescent rolls a serving, please?
3:08
- [Paula] 4.4 grams, how many servings?
3:13
- [Paula] I would say like a couple, wouldn't you?
3:17
- [Theresa] Well Irish serving sizes, yes.
3:20
- Yeah, it's funny because I was thinking about
3:27
my Krispy Kreme Donut Bread Pudding.
3:30
This is right up here with that.
3:33
All right, let me see what they say about,
3:36
mix the melted butter, sugar, and cinnamon
3:38
in a bowl and spoon evenly over the dough-wrapped apples.
3:45
Oh my goodness.
3:47
(laughs)
3:50
Oh, another one per lifetime recipe.
4:01
And isn't it apple season right now, Eddie?
4:03
- [Eddie] Yes, well I guess, I mean gosh,
4:06
I mean it's kind of like a candied apple
4:08
a little bit, right?
4:09
- [Paula] Yeah, yeah.
4:11
You know, I told you, I got to go to an apple orchard
4:16
in Connecticut or somewhere, somewhere up north.
4:21
Could've been in New York, you know, upper New York.
4:24
- [Eddie] Oh yeah, I mean everyone has orchards
4:26
up that way, but yeah, here in Blue Ridge,
4:31
(bell rings)
4:32
there's a really good one-- - Oh, really?
4:34
- [Eddie] Up in Georgia, yeah.
4:36
- Well you know, my magazine folks
4:40
gave me an apple tree as, I think it was a Christmas gift,
4:45
and we got apples off of it this year, didn't we?
4:49
- [Eddie] Yeah, and I'm not sure they were,
4:53
they were mainly green with a little bit of red,
4:54
and but they were ready like back in August.
4:59
- I know.
5:00
- [Eddie] I wanna say, and it's funny
5:02
because I almost had Mike take them out
5:05
back in the spring because there was no leaves,
5:09
no flowering or anything on the trees, and then boom.
5:15
- Well, well I was just shocked
5:19
because it took two to three years,
5:22
and I got one apple off of it.
5:26
All right, now I need 12 ounces of Mountain Dew.
5:34
Gotta turn around, I don't now how to read millimeters,
5:36
look at that, 12 ounces,
5:41
minus that much.
5:45
Good guessing, so now we're just gonna pour this
5:51
over our apple dumplings.
5:58
(laughs)
6:02
Oh my gosh.
6:05
(laughs)
6:09
Yum, that's all I got to say, yum.
6:13
All right, now we're gonna bake this
6:17
in a preheated oven, naturally, at 350 degrees
6:21
and I did grease my casserole dish,
6:26
just in case, you know, it got dry and stuck.
6:28
(phone rings)
6:29
All right, so it says to cook for 45 to 50 minutes.
6:34
I'll get the phone, Eddie, it's the gate I think.
6:38
(phone dial tone)
6:42
Somebody may have gotten it.
6:44
All right, 45 to 50 minutes.
6:53
I'm gonna put it on 40 because sometimes
6:56
I really need to have these ovens calibrated,
6:59
'cause I think it could be off a little bit,
7:04
so it's important, you know,
7:06
that you do check your ovens and you know,
7:11
we can go get a little oven thermometer,
7:14
so it's so easy to calibrate it yourself
7:19
or to see if it needs calibrating, let's say that.
7:24
All right.
7:29
Bessie May.
7:33
45 to 50 minutes.
7:37
Y'all, that was the longest 45 minutes
7:40
that I've spent in a long time.
7:45
So if you want time to pass slow, make this cobbler
7:49
and wait for 45 minutes,
7:52
and it'll feel like that clock is creeping.
7:56
Look at this wonderful Mountain Dew Cobbler,
7:59
Mountain Dew Apple Cobbler.
8:03
It would be wonderful with fresh pears,
8:07
let me see, what else would it be good with?
8:10
- Peaches? - Ice cream?
8:11
- You could do peaches, yeah, you could do peaches.
8:13
Oh, ice cream is a must.
8:15
- [Theresa] Whipped cream.
8:17
- Or fresh whipped cream if you're on a diet.
8:21
(laughs)
8:23
Y'all, I told you 617 calories a serving,
8:26
so look at the serving bowls I got out for us.
8:32
This'll give us an opportunity to just taste, right?
8:38
- [Theresa] I think you're just trying to tease us.
8:44
- [Paula] Oh gosh, it's still very, very hot.
8:49
We're getting a half a crescent roll apiece.
8:54
All right Theresa, have you ever had this before?
8:57
- [Theresa] Never.
8:58
- Oh, come on.
9:02
Eddie, is there any way you can shoot all three of us?
9:07
Can we do that?
9:08
- [Eddie] No, I'll--
9:10
- Will you hand me a spoon?
9:11
- Oh yeah, I got it out for you
9:13
and then here it is, anybody need some more juice?
9:15
Mine needs a little bit more juice.
9:16
- [Theresa] Oh no, I'm good.
9:18
- You want some more juice, Eddie?
9:20
- [Eddie] I'll get mine.
9:22
- Huh? - I'll get mine.
9:23
- You'll get yours? - Yes, I'll get mine.
9:26
- Okay, picky petunia.
9:29
(laughs)
9:30
Do it yourself.
9:32
- Oh my lord.
9:34
- (laughs) What you say, you praying?
9:38
Are you praying over there? - Pretty much.
9:39
- [Eddie] You just ate 200 calories right there.
9:41
- I know, but it's worth it.
9:48
(spoon clinks)
9:52
- [Eddie] So have you--
9:53
- Is it not the best cobbler you've ever tasted, sorry--
9:54
- [Theresa] This is family reunion kinda cobbler,
9:56
where people gonna remember you.
9:58
- [Eddie] Mountain Dew, I mean, have you,
10:00
you said you have made it or you have not made it?
10:03
- I have. - You have.
10:04
- Yeah, it's just been a good while,
10:07
what were you asking?
10:09
- [Eddie] Well I was wondering, you know,
10:11
what the, the Mountain Dew, what it does to,
10:15
from a different cobbler-- - Wonder if it's caffeine?
10:17
- It makes it go-ood?
10:18
- [Eddie] Makes it sticky, gooey.
10:22
- I mean, I don't drink Mountain Dew.
10:23
- [Eddie] Well it's pure sugar.
10:26
- 'Cause it, yeah, and caffeine, and I feel like most days
10:30
I don't wanna get too jacked up.
10:33
- No.
10:34
- 'Cause Mountain Dew will jack you up.
10:37
Michael drinks it when he needs to stay awake--
10:39
- I have friends that live on it.
10:40
- Really? - And I couldn't do it.
10:41
- Mm-hmm.
10:42
- I'd be, you'd have to peel me off the ceiling.
10:46
So good.
10:51
- It's incredible, incredible.
10:56
I can't remember what I was gonna say.
11:01
- [Theresa] One of the best dishes.
11:02
So we can eat more?
11:06
- That half a crescent just made my mouth mad.
11:10
Wants to know where the other half of that crescent are.
11:14
(laughs)
11:16
Well y'all, if you've never had it,
11:19
please try it.
11:22
You know, surely the caffeine would cook out
11:25
of the Mountain Dew.
11:27
- [Theresa] I was gonna ask you that question
11:28
and then I was worried that that was just a dumb question.
11:31
- I don't know, but I'll tell you what.
11:37
- If it jacks me up-- - We'll let 'em know.
11:39
- So be it.
11:40
(laughs)
11:42
- [Theresa] It was worth it.
11:44
- Oh, love and best dishes, y'all.
