0:01
- Hey, y'all welcome to my kitchen.
0:03
Paula's kitchen.
0:05
I am real excited about sharing this recipe
0:08
with y'all today.
0:10
I hope you've never had it,
0:12
so you can have the fun with it that I've had with it.
0:18
I'm fixing to show y'all how to make cheese fudge.
0:24
It sounds crazy, I know.
0:27
But it is so good.
0:30
And I want to show y'all
0:33
what I've got back here on the stove.
0:37
The cheese is this.
0:42
I know I'm not supposed to show brands,
0:43
but it is what it is.
0:47
And this is an eight ounce bar
0:51
and that's what the recipe calls for.
0:54
And it calls for, hey boys, y'all stop.
0:57
Stop. Stop.
1:00
They're fixin' to gang up on little Max, poor little Max.
1:05
We have two sticks of butter in here
1:09
and an eight ounce block of Velveeta cheese.
1:14
We're just gonna melt these together.
1:16
And the cheese takes a little longer
1:18
than the butter, naturally.
1:21
And you just need to keep a close eye on this.
1:24
I'm gonna turn it up a little bit.
1:27
And then we're just gonna wait for that cheese to melt.
1:31
Okay, y'all it's all melted.
1:33
It does take a few minutes to melt it.
1:37
And like I said,
1:38
you might could put the cheese in there first,
1:41
cause it takes a little bit longer and let that melt.
1:44
All right now to our cheese.
1:47
We're gonna add our nuts.
1:52
And our vanilla flavoring.
1:56
And you know, I like, I like my vanilla flavoring
1:59
so I'm gonna do two cap fulls.
2:07
And in this bowl over here,
2:11
I'm gonna put in, let's see how many ounces,
2:16
anyway, this equals like two boxes of confection sugar.
2:26
It's wanna stick to the sides.
2:28
Thank you, Eddie.
2:29
Eddie's a mind reader.
2:33
He knows what you want 'for you ask for it.
2:40
Two pounds of confectionate sugar in the bowl.
2:48
And I tell you to sift it,
2:55
what'd I do with my whisk?
2:57
Is it sitting up there and I just can't see it?
3:00
No, here it is.
3:03
All right and it says to sift your powdered sugar
3:07
and your cocoa together, but actually,
3:09
I just use my whisk and that's so very close to sifting.
3:16
See how that's mixing it all together and--
3:20
- [Eddie] I bet this ends up being
3:22
kind of like Swiss fudge, doesn't it?
3:25
(laughing)
3:26
- [Paula] Kinda.
3:27
- [Eddie] I bet.
3:28
I was skeptical at first.
3:31
And I'm still a little skeptical.
3:33
- [Paula] You're not gonna believe it, Eddie.
3:36
- [Theresa] You've never had cheese fudge?
3:37
- [Eddie] Uh uh.
3:38
- [Theresa] Oh my gosh.
3:39
- [Paula] Well you know how long it's been
3:40
since I made it?
3:42
- [Theresa] Well I must have had it 'cause I--
3:43
- [Paula] I think it was before I ever met Michael.
3:47
It's been a long time.
3:51
Hey little Mike, you like fudge?
3:54
- Yes ma'am.
3:54
- [Paula] Do you like nuts?
3:55
I can't remember.
3:57
- No ma'am.
3:57
- [Paula] You don't like nuts.
3:59
Dadgumit, I wanted you to taste my fudge.
4:03
- I don't know if I can help you on that one.
4:07
- Okay, so in that goes and this is gonna be
4:11
very, very, very, very thick.
4:17
Gonna make sure I get every bit. (laughs)
4:25
This recipe just makes me laugh.
4:29
Just pure makes me laugh.
4:35
(dogs barking)
4:37
Hush, hush, hush.
4:38
- [Theresa] Shush, come here, come here.
4:41
- Hush.
4:41
It's probably Henry.
4:44
Our grandsons are staying with us,
4:46
John and Henry, for a couple of days,
4:48
while their parents are out of town.
4:51
And Michael had to actually go pick Henry up from school
4:54
'cause he had a stomachache.
4:59
- [Theresa] I think he's playing hooky.
5:00
- I think he might be taking advantage of
5:04
Poppa and Ginny's (laughs) feelings.
5:10
For lack of a better word.
5:15
- [Theresa] That's what grandparents do.
5:18
- [Paula] Listen, they know.
5:19
(dogs barking)
5:20
Hush.
5:21
- [Theresa] Come here.
5:23
- [Paula] I'm sure it's Henry,
5:24
getting up out of the bed and walking around, Theresa.
5:28
All right, so when you make this y'all,
5:31
you may want to make sure you got a strong man
5:33
around the house.
5:36
Because it takes a while to get all this blended.
5:43
Look at that.
5:44
- [Eddie] Sure does look good.
5:45
(laughing)
5:46
- Doesn't that look good?
5:47
It is good.
5:49
And I've had so much fun with this recipe,
5:51
Eddie, over the years.
5:52
Mike, would you do me a favor?
5:54
Would you wash your hands
5:55
and come stir my fudge, please?
5:57
- [Mike] Yes ma'am.
5:58
(laughing)
5:59
- I've had so much fun with it over the years, y'all.
6:02
I remember the first time I made it,
6:03
I lived at Turner's Creek.
6:06
I didn't know who Michael Groover was,
6:08
that's for sure.
6:09
But, I took it to my neighbors and I said,
6:13
"Now I want you to taste it while I'm here.
6:16
I want you to taste it while I'm here,
6:18
'cause I want you to tell me
6:20
what you think is in this fudge.
6:22
How I made this fudge."
6:24
Well, nobody guessed it right, nobody.
6:29
And when I told 'em, they just,
6:36
you could have knocked 'em over with a feather.
6:37
They said, "There is just no way
6:40
that that can be fudge."
6:42
Thank you baby, my arm's about shot.
6:46
- Getting a workout.
6:47
- Y'all, this is Mike Pryor.
6:51
He is a part of our team here.
6:54
And a very important team member.
6:57
- [Mike] Thank you ma'am.
6:58
- [Paula] In case I hadn't told you lately.
6:59
- [Mike] All the time.
7:02
- [Paula] So get in there and stir it up good, baby.
7:04
- [Mike] Okay.
7:05
- [Paula] This arm's about to fall off from stirring.
7:07
- [Mike] I believe it.
7:08
- [Paula] From stirring the cheese and the butter
7:09
and then stirring the fudge.
7:14
There's Henry and Poppa.
7:16
I knew, the dogs were just going crazy.
7:22
And I just knew it was y'all, up walking around.
7:25
How you feeling, Henry?
7:27
- [Henry] A little bit better.
7:28
- [Paula] Good.
7:29
Thank you, darling.
7:30
- [Mike] Yes ma'am.
7:31
- [Paula] I appreciate it.
7:32
- [Mike] You tell me when it's good.
7:33
- Okay, it's good, I think I can finish it from there.
7:36
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
7:38
- [Mike] You're welcome.
7:39
- It's so nice to have a young man around the house, y'all.
7:45
All right, so I'm just gonna go around that bowl now
7:47
with a spatula.
7:49
- [Michael] That's why you married me.
7:51
- [Paula] Yes, that's why I married you.
7:53
Where were you when I needed you?
7:55
- [Michael] You have a young man--
7:56
- [Paula] Huh?
7:57
- [Michael] You have a young man around the house.
7:59
- Young man, my.
8:01
I'm telling you what, you must not have a mirror
8:06
in your bathroom. (laughs)
8:09
Just 'cause he's nine years younger.
8:13
You still an old man.
8:18
All right, see how long it takes to,
8:23
now what I would like to do,
8:26
but I'm not gonna do it today.
8:29
What I would like to do is make another batch
8:32
and make it peanut butter
8:35
and put that on top of the chocolate
8:37
so you'll have peanut butter and chocolate.
8:40
Michael, have I ever made this cheese for you?
8:43
I mean this fudge, for you? (laughs)
8:46
Say.
8:49
- [Michael] I think once, about 20 years ago.
8:52
- [Paula] Yeah, I mean it's been a long time
8:54
since I made it.
9:00
Okay, and then I'm just,
9:03
and like I said, I didn't grease this dish
9:06
because it has two sticks of butter in it.
9:13
I think that's enough to keep it from sticking.
9:19
And because of that butter.
9:22
If the butter appears to come to the top,
9:26
you can take a paper towel and pat it out.
9:31
And if there's any excess butter coming to the top.
9:40
So make this and give some to your neighbors
9:43
or your friend and get them to tell you
9:48
what's in this fudge.
9:52
And I'll bet you a dollar to a donut,
9:57
that nobody will say Velveeta cheese.
10:02
And this doesn't take but a second to cut it.
10:06
I just put it in the refrigerator
10:08
just for a minute, look at that.
10:11
(slapping)
10:13
Viola.
10:16
We gonna let it chill
10:17
and then we'll come back and taste it.
10:18
I can't wait for Eddie to taste it.
10:21
Probably not more than 10 or 15 minutes
10:23
and it's gonna be so hard,
10:26
but you know what Eddie,
10:27
I just can't hardly wait for you to taste it.
10:31
So I'm gonna go ahead and,
10:36
you're not opposed to a soft--
10:39
- [Eddie] Melted fudge?
10:40
- Piece of fudge, are you?
10:42
- [Eddie] Melted cheese fudge.
10:43
- Yes, all right so taste it and tell me.
10:49
- [Eddie] Yeah.
10:50
- [Theresa] Can you taste the cheese?
10:50
You cannot, can you?
10:52
- No.
10:52
- [Eddie] No. No.
10:53
- [Theresa] You would never know.
10:54
- So how good is it?
10:57
- [Eddie] It's really good.
10:58
- [Theresa] You'll be taking some
11:00
to your room tonight, won't you?
11:01
- [Eddie] Yeah, I mean it's--
11:02
- [Theresa] You'll be taking some home.
11:03
I know you will.
11:04
- [Eddie] It's just like fudge.
11:04
- I know, it's incredible.
11:08
No fail.
11:10
No fail, no fooling, no fail.
11:12
- [Henry] Am I allowed to have fudge?
11:14
- [Eddie] Velveeta.
11:15
(laughing)
11:18
- Y'all have as much fun with this recipe
11:20
as I've had with it over the years.
11:23
I took a long break from it but I'm glad to be back.
