- Good morning my friends.
0:01
Welcome to "Paula's Quarantine Cooking Kitchen!"
0:05
(Paula laughs)
0:07
It's my hope that y'all enjoy these
0:11
and take aside a few minutes every day
0:14
to just sit and forget about everything that irks you,
0:17
and just sit back and spend a little time with me and relax.
0:23
You know, good time filler. (laughs)
0:27
So anyway, I hope y'all are enjoying it.
0:30
I get so many letters y'all, so many letters from y'all,
0:35
and I appreciate each and every one of them.
0:39
And to catch y'all up my eyes are still bad,
0:42
no makeup, and I feel like
0:44
I'm standing here in front of y'all butt naked!
0:47
(Paula laughs)
0:48
Without my makeup on, but listen.
0:51
I got something really, really, really, really pretty
0:55
for y'all to look at now.
0:58
Guess who is gonna be in the kitchen with me today?
1:03
My daughter-in-law, and the mother of my triplets,
1:08
look, twirl for them.
1:09
- Okay okay okay. - Twirl, twirl, okay,
1:11
come twirl.
1:12
- Say it again, say it again.
1:13
- Claudia Deen! (laughs)
1:19
Oh I love this girl!
1:21
- I love you too Geni, grandma.
1:23
- She is
1:26
a fabulous wife and mother.
1:28
- Mm-hm.
1:29
- Uh-huh.
1:30
- And daughter-in-law. (Claudia laughs)
1:31
- And daughter, oh, well that goes without saying I thought.
1:35
So, she is from Venezuela.
1:39
- Yes.
1:39
- So y'all might notice a little tiny accent.
1:42
(Claudia laughs)
1:43
And Claud has been so incredible
1:47
at feeding our three babies.
1:50
She has just done an incredible job.
1:54
Bobby just sent me a video of them
1:56
eating their oatmeal with a spoon.
1:57
- Oh yes, oh you saw that?
1:58
- They are doing so good.
2:01
- And I think Linton is gonna be a left-handed.
2:03
- You think, well I noticed he was eating with his right.
2:05
- Well that was my fault, my fault.
2:07
Because I put the spoon like this when I served it,
2:10
so he went for the right hand, and he did it pretty good,
2:13
but with his left he's even better.
2:16
Like I have to have him send you a video with the left hand.
2:19
So much better, but I think he can dominate both now.
2:23
- I hope that when it's really come time to choose
2:27
that he'll choose the right-hand.
2:28
- No the left one!
2:29
- Why?
2:30
- I don't know they say that left-handed are really smart.
2:32
- [Eddie] Yes. (laughs)
2:33
- Are you a left-handed? (Claudia laughs)
2:34
- My daddy was left-handed.
2:36
- I'm sure he was
2:37
really smart! - But everything...
2:38
(both laughing) Yes.
2:39
But everything is made for
2:41
right-handed people. - Well, I don't know.
2:43
- So I'm hoping, Eddie's just shaking his head no.
2:47
- Maybe the world needs to update themselves.
2:49
(laughing) And do everything able for everyone.
2:52
- Well I'm pulling for a right-handed man, but.
2:55
- I'm pulling for a left.
2:56
- Whatever, whatever, whatever.
3:00
- Just to make it even more different from the girls
3:02
he has to be a left-handed.
3:04
- (laughs) Well I mean, he can't get any more different
3:07
than the girls, those piercing blue eyes this big.
3:11
And then the girls with those piercing black eyes,
3:14
that big.
3:15
- Well he can be a left-handed, (laughs)
3:17
to make it even more different.
3:18
- Every one of them are special.
3:20
- Yeah, they are special. - They are so, so special.
3:22
So Claud has been really innovative
3:26
in her preparing foods
3:28
so if there's any of y'all out there,
3:30
(Paula quietly burps) excuse me,
3:31
any of y'all out there watching
3:33
that has a new baby that you're trying to introduce to
3:39
foods, y'all will enjoy this.
3:42
If not, y'all just enjoy hearing her talk. (laughs)
3:47
- Everything we make I eat.
3:49
- Go girl!
3:50
- Everything we're gonna make, I eat it at my house.
3:52
- Okay, so this is not just for the babies.
3:54
- No, and actually the first thing we're gonna do
3:56
which is an Acai Bowl is very simple
3:59
is very summery.
4:00
- Okay.
4:01
- You're already peeling the bananas.
4:02
- I'm trying to peel your frozen bananas.
4:04
- Thank you. (Paula laughing)
4:06
But this is something that I eat for breakfast
4:09
or as a snack, and actually for the babies
4:11
I'll do it a little bit different.
4:13
I just wouldn't add granola on the top
4:15
because they could choke.
4:17
But other than that they could totally eat it as a smoothie.
4:20
Like as a snack we do a lot of smoothies
4:22
so this will be an option, especially now that it's so hot.
4:26
- So this is a smoothie for adults or children.
4:29
- It's a bowl.
4:30
- It's a what?
4:31
- A bowl, an acai bowl, so instead of like smoothie
4:35
it's gonna be more like an ice cream.
4:37
- Oh, yay, I'm in!
4:39
- Yeah. (both laughing)
4:40
Not like the one you brought us.
4:43
- Yes.
4:44
- Yeah, not like that one, more like a fruity one, so!
4:49
Which is still in my freezer by the way
4:51
and I use it as a food coloring yesterday.
4:52
- Oh, good! (laughing)
4:54
- I just mix it with water.
4:56
- And what were you wanting to,
4:57
why were you wanting
4:58
to color food? - Oh I'll have to show you.
4:59
Did you see it Eddie?
5:00
- [Eddie] No.
5:01
- Okay, I did something called pouring station.
5:04
- [Eddie] I did.
5:05
- You seen it? - For the babies?
5:06
- Yeah, yeah, so it's like, you grab a section
5:08
like a place where you put
5:10
different kinds of plastic containers
5:12
different sizes, different shapes, whatever.
5:14
And then you fill them up with different amounts of water
5:17
So they say that you can use food coloring
5:19
so I only had orange food coloring.
5:20
You can use whatever colors
5:22
just to make the water different colors.
5:24
And I was like well I'm just gonna use Paula's
5:26
pink ice cream as a food coloring (laughs)
5:29
So I had pink, it was your ice cream diluted in water,
5:32
and then orange, and then they just grab the cups
5:35
and they just play with it and try to
5:37
fill different ones with different...
5:40
So it's like they learn the life skill of pouring
5:45
is what it's for. - Did they do it well?
5:46
- Oh yeah yeah yeah, and they were super entertained
5:48
because they never done it before
5:49
so they were there for solid 15, 20 minutes.
5:51
Like, you know, doing that.
5:53
And of course they were drinking it and all that.
5:56
- Oh they were? (laughs)
5:57
- Yeah but it's water, so it's fine.
5:58
And it's food coloring, so, but it was a lot of fun
6:01
so I need to get more food coloring.
6:02
So anyways, this is for adults and kids, it's the same.
6:05
- Okay, okay.
6:06
- Yeah, like, I will give it, you know.
6:08
A lot of people, and we try to do the same,
6:11
at the beginning we do more purees and things
6:14
that are just for them, but right now
6:16
I want them to eat what we eat.
6:18
The thing is sometimes we eat like bunnies.
6:21
Just a bunch of salads. (laughs)
6:24
We do other things!
6:25
So, do you want me to go through the ingredients?
6:28
- Yes!
6:29
- Okay, so.
6:29
- And does this have a name?
6:31
- This is a name called Acai Bowl.
6:33
So this is acai, which is a fruit.
6:36
But this is frozen.
6:37
- Okay.
6:38
- Okay, and you can get this at any grocery store, so.
6:41
- And the tip is, let's give them a tip on this banana.
6:45
- Well, our sous chef, not her as my sous chef,
6:50
Our other sous chef was holding the phone (Claudia laughs)
6:53
I forgot to tell him to,
6:54
you have to freeze the bananas already peeled.
6:57
- Yes.
6:58
- So you are not struggling like Paula is. (laughs)
7:00
So when you're gonna use frozen bananas,
7:02
first peel them and then put them in the freezer.
7:04
You can put them in a bowl, or in a Ziploc bag or whatever.
7:07
- Okay, well I've never tried to peel a frozen banana.
7:12
- You did a great job.
7:13
- So, (laughing) oh well thank you, it's pretty messy.
7:16
- No it looked pretty good.
7:17
- [Paula] You know those strings on a banana.
7:18
- Yeah, I guess they were not that frozen.
7:20
- [Paula] Holy moly I couldn't get them off!
7:23
- Yeah.
7:25
There it is.
7:26
That's good. - [Paula] Okeydoke!
7:27
- You can get the string.
7:28
So anyways. - [Paula] All right, so
7:29
what were you saying then Claudia?
7:30
- [Claudia] So this, we're not using brands right?
7:33
(Claudia laughs)
7:36
Bobby every time I say something he's like,
7:38
you're doing free advertising for everyone.
7:40
I'm like, what that's what I use! (laughs)
7:42
I like to share the tips of what I use.
7:43
So anyways.
7:44
- Well I do too.
7:46
- Yeah, I mean, doesn't matter.
7:48
So these acai packs, you can find them at any grocery store
7:52
in the frozen section where the frozen fruits are.
7:54
- I actually have some in the freezer.
7:56
- Yeah, I'll be curious to see because...
7:58
We've made the mistake before
8:00
of getting the one that is sweetened, that has sugar
8:02
and you wanna get, especially if it's for the kids
8:05
because this is already gonna be sweet enough
8:07
with the banana, you wanna get the unsweetened.
8:09
Unsweetened, so always look at the packages.
8:13
And make sure that it's unsweetened.
8:16
So, these are pretty rough, so what we do first
8:20
is we're gonna blend these guys first,
8:22
before we do the banana.
8:24
So, we're gonna cut it, with these scissors,
8:27
that I'm sure is not yours,
8:29
it's probably one of the kids too.
8:31
(both laughing)
8:32
These scissors, - Oh no,
8:33
- It's yours? - I just like that size!
8:34
- Really? - Yes.
8:35
- That's funny.
8:36
- Yes I just like that size.
8:38
- Okay, and this blender.
8:39
- And I use those more than any other scissors in my drawer.
8:43
- That's funny.
8:44
This is a very powerful blender, already we've seen.
8:48
- Oh, I'm telling you.
8:50
It's gonna sound like a rocket going off.
8:52
- Yeah, sometimes if I, let's say I freeze them,
8:55
and then I take them out for a little bit before
8:57
you can run them under hot water
8:58
if you don't have a high speed blender.
9:00
And sometimes I like chopping them a little bit
9:03
before putting them in there, so it's already...
9:07
Okay, there we go, now, Miss Paula is gonna blend it.
9:12
- Okay.
9:16
All right let's see, this one has to be.
9:19
- [Claudia] We're new with this gadget.
9:21
- Uh-huh.
9:22
(Blender roars)
9:29
If you can't mix with this thing, you can't mix.
9:33
- How do you open it though?
9:34
- Just take your top off.
9:38
- I think I'm gonna break it.
9:39
I don't wanna upset Michael, broke his blender.
9:43
- We're not gonna break it.
9:45
- You sure?
9:46
(Blender lid pops) Okay.
9:47
Oh that's pretty, oh wow, that is pretty good.
9:49
- Yeah!
9:50
- Look.
9:51
- That thing don't play.
9:52
- Yeah, wow, this is serious-
9:54
- Look how many blades.
9:55
- That's what I was gonna say, it has like ten blades.
9:57
- (laughs) Yes.
9:58
- So you need two of those packages
9:59
and then two frozen bananas and the more
10:02
you say riped, or ripened?
10:04
- Huh?
10:05
- Riped bananas?
10:06
- Ripe.
10:06
- Ripe bananas.
10:07
- Peeled bananas.
10:08
- Peeled, peeled, very important.
10:10
And the more ripe they are,
10:12
of course the sweeter they're gonna be, so.
10:14
You want them to be really riped.
10:15
- How about, I make my banana nut bread
10:19
out of over, over ripe bananas.
10:21
- Oh yeah, it's just sugar.
10:23
It's just gonna taste even sweeter.
10:24
- [Paula] Would you want them,
10:25
could you make this with really over, over ripe?
10:28
- Yeah, like that guy over there.
10:30
Like this,
10:31
- Like this one?
10:32
- That one, or even more!
10:33
- [Paula] All right, how about this one?
10:34
- Yeah, yeah.
10:35
- You could?
10:36
- Oh yeah, that's why, every time my bananas start turning
10:38
- Okay so another way to use old bananas besides just making
10:44
bread, yeah. - Banana bread, yeah.
10:44
And a lot of the times what I do when my,
10:46
any fruit and even vegetables,
10:48
when they're turning super ugly
10:50
I just put them in the freezer
10:52
and then I put them in smoothies
10:53
like spinach, when it starts getting mushy and ugh.
10:56
I'll just put them in the freezer
10:59
and then I put them in smoothies.
11:01
- I mean we have to - And it's great.
11:02
- Get this top.
11:04
- Yeah.
11:05
- Just right. (Blender roars)
11:08
Okay y'all, it's ready, just two ingredients!
11:12
- Yeah, see how easy, and simple!
11:14
And delicious. - What's all that stuff
11:15
in those jars?
11:16
- Well that's the fun part.
11:17
- [Paula] Oh, okay!
11:18
So we're gonna get - [Claudia] This is the
11:19
boring part.
11:20
- [Paula] Oh okay.
11:21
- [Claudia] We'll get to the fun part.
11:22
(Bowls Sliding)
11:23
- [Paula] So we're gonna get something.
11:24
- [Claudia] Yes.
11:25
Oh, that's what I'm nervous.
11:26
Is it not gonna.
11:27
- [Paula] Don't be nervous. - [Claudia] Go down here?
11:29
- [Paula] I don't think?
11:30
- [Claudia] Oh shoot.
11:31
- [Paula] No.
11:33
- Oh wow, this is something else.
11:35
- Uh-huh, look at those blades.
11:37
- Yeah, that's insane.
11:38
So you've got your delicious,
11:41
- Uh-huh.
11:42
- You're really close to me, I'm like. (laughs)
11:45
- Hello. (both laughing)
11:46
- Okay, and we're just gonna serve it.
11:49
- Okay, I thought it would be...
11:52
- [Claudia] I don't know how much.
11:53
Do you wanna do one, or do you wanna do two?
11:53
We'll do two small.
11:54
I want my own. - [Paula] Give me a small one.
11:57
Do me a small one.
11:58
- [Claudia] Paula's like, I don't wanna share.
11:59
- [Paula] Okay, that's good for me.
12:03
- [Claudia] Plus, let's see, you sure?
12:05
- [Paula] Yes.
12:06
- [Claudia] Okay.
12:08
- [Paula] Well it depends on what actually-
12:10
- [Claudia] Ah! (laughs)
12:11
Let me pour you a little bit more.
12:13
- [Paula] Mm, that is really good.
12:16
- [Claudia] Yeah it's so simple.
12:18
So easy. - [Paula] I'm gonna take
12:20
aunt Peggy some back there.
12:21
- [Claudia] Oh yeah, you can give her mine.
12:23
Okay, so. - [Paula] I'll give her mine.
12:24
- [Claudia] Okay, so then comes the fun part.
12:27
So you can decorate this with whatever you want
12:31
and I think this will be fun if you have older kids
12:33
because then you can involve them
12:35
in doing the fun decoration part.
12:37
So we are gonna cut this, can we cut here now?
12:40
We need a cutting?
12:41
- Yes, no, you can cut there.
12:42
- Okay, so.
12:43
- And there's your knife.
12:43
- My knife, oh, it's the Deen Brothers knife.
12:46
- (laughs) Yes it is.
12:49
- So I like the strawberries.
12:50
You can do, I mean, literally whatever you want.
12:54
This is just what we had.
12:56
And these strawberries are really good lately.
13:01
I thought you wanted a small one.
13:06
- It's so good and cold and refreshing.
13:08
I got to give the cameraman some.
13:11
- So you can decorate it, well, you're still-
13:13
- Did you like it?
13:14
- That's pretty but. - [Eddie] Yeah, very good.
13:16
- Then you're supposed to go, with the camera.
13:18
- With the camera? (Claudia laughs)
13:19
- If you don't like it you go. (laughs)
13:22
- And then we're gonna do bananas.
13:24
- Oh some more banana.
13:25
- Yes, bananas are life. - But what about those jars?
13:27
- Oh we'll go there.
13:28
- Oh okay. (laughs)
13:30
- Patience, we need to learn - I feel
13:32
- To be patient. - Like I'm,
13:33
- I'm missing something.
13:35
- Here, you can grab the bananas that you want.
13:37
- Okay.
13:37
- So this is a very cute bowl, small bowl.
13:43
Okay, try that one.
13:44
- [Paula] Oh thank you.
13:46
- [Claudia] And then, we have the magic powders.
13:49
So, what we have, I don't know why I have this
13:52
because we're not gonna use it, unless you want to, but.
13:54
This is flaxseeds. (laughs)
13:58
- [Paula] Well.
13:59
- [Claudia] Do it, do it.
14:00
It doesn't taste like anything, it's just fiber.
14:01
- [Paula] No it doesn't, how much?
14:02
- [Claudia] That's great, and just sprinkle it.
14:05
Yes, I'll put it all around mine too just so.
14:08
Chia seeds, they have a lot of-
14:11
- Yeah I like chia seeds.
14:12
- Omegas and, there we go.
14:14
- How much? - They're great.
14:15
How much, as much as you want.
14:16
That's the fun part you can do whatever you want.
14:18
And then hemp seeds, they have a lot of protein.
14:20
So, we want the protein.
14:23
- How much?
14:24
- How much, as much as you want.
14:25
So I always tell the kids,
14:27
and I always like to do this, just an idea.
14:29
I always like to tell them what they're eating,
14:32
so every time they're eating, I start saying
14:34
okay we're gonna eat this for example
14:36
and I'm like okay, it has bananas, and it has strawberries
14:39
which are full of vitamins and minerals
14:40
and they're great for your health
14:43
and the banana has a lot of potassium
14:44
so we don't get dehydrated
14:45
and then I'll go like,
14:47
and I also put, we're also gonna have hemp seeds
14:49
that have a lot of protein for your muscles
14:50
so you can grow strong, they're one and a half but I-
14:55
- That's all right, if you talk to them like an adult
14:58
and explain things, you're so far ahead of the game.
15:02
- Yeah I know they'll understand,
15:03
and I told them, and this has flaxseeds!
15:05
(laughs) And that is granola.
15:08
- y'all went out in the yard the other day.
15:10
- Oh yeah.
15:11
- Tell me how much.
15:13
- I like it, so a lot, I mean, not a lot, but.
15:17
That's good so they can see the final product.
15:19
- [Paula] Okay.
15:22
This looks like something
15:23
that I would like a whole lot. (laughs)
15:25
- [Claudia] Yeah it's delicious.
15:26
Look, look how pretty they look.
15:28
- [Paula] Yes, they do.
15:31
- [Claudia] See?
15:32
- [Paula] It's very appetizing looking Claud.
15:34
- [Claudia] It's very simple.
15:35
- [Paula] I don't know how much y'all know
15:36
about my daughter-in-law, but...
15:39
- Other than that I'm a great daughter-in-law,
15:41
and a great mother and great wife?
15:42
- Mm-hm other than that, she is a triathlete.
15:46
- Well, you're like Bobby, always...
15:49
- She is a life coach,
15:52
she is available for people that need help,
15:57
and guidance, I mean she's just a wealth
16:00
wealth of knowledge, about foods and what they do for you,
16:06
or what they don't do for you. (Claudia laughs)
16:09
So I trust you.
16:10
I trust you - So this will.
16:11
- Feeding my babies. - Do a lot for you.
16:13
Oh yes.
16:14
- Okay, cheers. (bowls clink)
16:14
- Cheers.
16:15
- Bon appetit!
16:17
(Claudia laughs)
16:19

16:25
- It's really good and really refreshing. It's delicious.
16:31
- Where did that crunch stuff go?
16:33
- Ah, see, that's the best part. (laughs)
16:35
I like the different textures of things.
16:36
You gotta put in granola and fruits and stuff.
16:39
And again you can put whatever you want.
16:45
(Paula laughs)
16:51
This is something that everybody will like.
16:55
It's good, right?
17:01
- I feel so healthy!
17:06
- I'll come feed you, I'll come feed you too.
17:10
- You'll come...?
17:11
- Feed you!
17:12
- Oh, feed me! (laughs)
17:15
I wish I could just move in over there
17:17
and let you tell me what I can eat and what I can't eat.
17:22
