0:01
(chicken clucks) - Hey y'all,
0:02
I was just out here checking on the chickens.
0:05
Day before yesterday,
0:07
one of our little hens, named Sonny, had died,
0:13
she was laying up here by the door,
0:15
no pet marks or anything on her, and just made me sad.
0:25
let me tell you what I did yesterday.
0:31
and you know how they love to come out-
0:32
- Yes. - And just peck at everything.
0:35
And I thought, you know,
0:36
all their little mouths were open like this,
0:40
so I said, they're hot, they're hot,
0:43
so I got the hose and put it on shower
0:46
and showered them down.
0:54
He would just stand there like this.
0:57
The girls, they kinda liked it,
1:01
but they didn't quite know what to do with it.
1:05
So y'all, a couple of girls were in the restaurant,
1:08
and they gave me a recipe for the way they baked beans,
1:13
so that's what I'm doing today for the 4th of July.
1:16
So come on in, let's get out of the heat,
1:21
and go in here and throw together some baked beans.
1:27
so here is Sue and Gloria's recipe for baked beans.
1:31
We're gonna start with four cans.
1:35
And I tell you what, I just love Bush's baked beans,
1:40
And this is the original.
1:43
So we gonna do the full recipe,
1:47
because the 4th of July,
1:50
ain't no telling who all's gonna show up,
1:52
so I'll have plenty of gas for 'em.
1:59
You get it? (chuckles)
2:04
Mm, those onions are so good.
2:13
Okie doke, that's the hardest part y'all,
2:15
getting the beans outta the can.
2:18
That's a pretty easy recipe, isn't it?
2:22
All right, let's see.
2:26
I've got like a cup of barbecue sauce
2:30
and I would say just use your favorite barbecue sauce,
2:37
whether it be a red or mustard.
2:43
Okie doke, I've got a cup of molasses.
2:50
It is not motor oil. (chuckles)
2:52
It looks like motor oil there, doesn't it?
3:04
And we got some crushed pineapple to go in there,
3:08
which is going to help make it sweet.
3:12
And, how much crushed pineapple was that?
3:15
- [Theresa] It's a 20-ounce Can.
3:17
I'm gonna get these out here,
3:18
they're just taking up space. - Yes, thank you.
3:20
A 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple, drained.
3:27
- [Theresa] And then two tablespoons
3:28
of that yellow mustard.
3:29
- Yeah, I like mustard in my baked beans.
3:33
And you know what I also like?
3:39
I like diced up bell pepper.
3:48
- [Theresa] I didn't think
3:49
all your family liked bell pepper.
3:51
- They don't. (laughs)
3:53
I said that's what I like.
3:58
No, Michael will eat it cooked.
4:03
they'll about eat anything that mama cooks, so there you go.
4:07
Alright, now, I'm going to use
4:08
a half a bag of crushed crispy onions,
4:12
and they're so good, I could eat every one of them.
4:18
So that's about half a bag.
4:27
I'll give it a nice onioney flavor.
4:31
All right, I've sprayed my 13"-9"-2" pan,
4:37
so I'm just gonna dump these beans
4:47
Lemme make sure I get all that barbecue sauce out there.
4:56
All right, now I'm gonna sprinkle
4:58
the rest of these onions on top.
5:19
Now, their recipe calls for totally cooked bacon,
5:23
but Theresa cooked this just for a minute
5:31
because I like to get the fat from the bacon into my recipe,
5:42
And rather than trying to find a sharp knife
5:44
that'll cut this bacon, my handy dandy scissors are great.
5:53
I used to put on whole strips, but then I realized,
5:57
if I was the last one to get to the beans, (chuckles)
6:01
all the bacon would be gone,
6:04
so I said, okay, I'm gonna fix that.
6:07
I'm gonna fix that. (chuckles)
6:11
I'm gonna make sure I have a bean, I mean a bacon,
6:16
when I finally get to the baked beans.
6:19
Okay, so I'm just gonna kind of spread that out some.
6:28
What'd you cook that bacon, maybe five minutes?
6:33
- In the oven- - At 350.
6:35
- It was just perfect.
6:37
Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, Theresa
6:45
Theresa be perfect. (Paula and Theresa chuckle)
6:49
Okay Therese, there you go,
6:51
there's Gloria and Sue's baked beans.
6:54
We gonna bake 'em for about 45 minutes or an hour,
6:57
and then we're gonna taste them,
6:58
and that'll be easy for me to slip a bite out
7:00
and nobody will know it. - Exactly.
7:03
Okay, bon appetit to Sue and Gloria,
7:07
I'm gonna sneak in here and nobody is gonna be the wiser.
7:12
Unless I mess it up, y'all.
7:14
Oops, I'll clean that up.
7:18
It's still so hot, you can see the steam coming off of 'em,
7:25
(sighs) Here you go, mouth. (chuckles)
7:37
Girls, they're really good, and they're really hot,
7:41
and they're really sweet because of that molasses.
7:47
And a good baked beans should be sweet,
7:49
right girls? (chuckles)
7:52
Thanks for sharing your recipe
7:55
with pineapple baked beans, girls.
7:57
And I hope y'all have a happy 4th of July,
8:01
and I'm sending you love and best dishes,
8:03
how about sending me some love
8:06
and some of your best dishes again? (chuckles)
