I'm not that young anymore, but it's still me.
0:06
I'm Jamie Deen y'all.
0:07
Welcome to Quarantine Cooking.
0:09
I pulled the recipe out of Jamie Deen's Good Food today.
0:12
My personal opinion, the best cookbook
0:13
anybody in this family has ever put out.
0:17
And today we're doing one
0:19
of what I like to call our pillars.
0:22
The four pillars of our Bag Lady business was egg salad,
0:27
tuna salad, chicken salad.
0:31
And what other salad?
0:33
Maybe it's the three pillars.
0:35
- I think it's pimento cheese, wasn't it?
0:36
The pimento cheese, but I didn't put that recipe in here
0:39
cause it's my brother's and this is my cookbook.
0:42
And so what we're doing today is tuna fish salad.
0:44
I love tuna fish salad.
0:47
I've made more than I could even exaggerate
0:51
because that truly is one of the first things
0:54
that we made for the Bag Lady, it was tuna fish salad.
0:57
It is so good on toast and it used to be a real big seller
1:01
So I'm happy to share my own recipe with y'all today.
1:03
We start with two cans of tuna.
1:05
And I like the tuna that comes in the water.
1:08
That's what this recipe calls for.
1:10
I never really got the tuna in
1:12
oh I'm sure there's benefits for it.
1:16
If you wanna make mine for me,
1:18
please do it with spring water.
1:20
Two cans of tuna with spring water.
1:22
I'm gonna put a little squeeze of lemon in here
1:24
because fish and lemon is really super good.
1:29
I can't have tuna fish without boiled eggs.
1:35
boiled eggs here that Teresa has been kind enough
1:40
Look how nice this is,
1:41
almost like a professional setup here today.
1:45
I've got two boiled eggs, I've one stock of celery.
1:50
Our brother does not like celery in his salads
1:53
but you just can't have tuna fish
1:55
without a little bit of bite.
1:57
The flavor of celery as you know is robust,
2:01
but it also gives a tremendous texture.
2:04
I've got some purple onion.
2:07
And we've got some chops in here too.
2:11
This full recipe, as y'all know, you can find verbatim.
2:15
It will be posted by probably Theresa.
2:18
And so I'm kind of running through it
2:19
because I've done, gosh, so many recipes
2:22
and I'm terrible about following recipes.
2:25
But I have to do it for the intention of this program.
2:29
So let's get 1/3 of mayonnaise.
2:36
Oh she didn't teach me, I saw her.
2:39
We do everything by pinching dash
2:42
and we add a little bit and then we had a little bit more
2:46
and then once we started doing cookbooks,
2:48
we figured out, "Hey, we gotta start measuring this stuff."
2:52
And the recipe calls for sweet relish.
2:56
Do not use sweet relish.
3:00
Sweet is good though.
3:01
And I think I just wanted to change it up a little bit.
3:03
We've got a tablespoon.
3:05
This is sweet dill relish going in here.
3:10
And the last thing we need is a little bit of salt
3:18
And we're gonna turn this around.
3:20
So when we were doing the Bag Lady,
3:21
we did tuna fish sandwiches, mini cheese and chicken salad.
3:27
And we would sell trio sandwiches.
3:29
So you would get three 1/2 sandwiches
3:31
and tuna and chicken and mini cheese or eggs salad
3:33
that was usually our choices.
3:36
And whenever we had any leftover, we would bring them
3:40
back in from the Bag Lady route.
3:42
We would break them all down
3:43
and we would sit and have lunch.
3:47
My mouth is legit watering right now.
3:50
And we would all fight over the tuna fish
3:52
because we love white bread put in the toaster
3:55
and then put tuna fish on it, so delicious.
3:58
What I like about tuna fish is that it can be
4:01
the perfect lunch pail box.
4:03
You could just slap it on some bread,
4:06
put it in a Ziploc, send it to school with your kids,
4:09
send it to work with your husband,
4:11
send it to work with your wife, keep it for yourself.
4:14
But if you wanna have an elevated eating experience,
4:20
you can get a ice cream scooper
4:24
and a little plate of greens,
4:28
and you can make it really look like something.
4:31
Now if you garnish this with some fresh sliced tomatoes,
4:35
and a couple of crackers...
4:37
Well, I think it fell apart and my hands are dirty.
4:44
It tastes delicious, but it's not as pretty
4:46
as I wanted it to be.
4:49
It's Quarantine Cooking.
4:52
I hope y'all enjoyed my tuna fish.
4:54
I'll see y'all around the kitchen.
