- Hey y'all, I'm Jamie Deen.
0:01
Welcome back to Mom's Kitchen.
0:03
And I'm the perfect person for you to see do this today
0:06
'cause this is for Mother's Day.
0:08
I have a mama and I'm married to a mama.
0:12
Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there.
0:14
It's the time of the year when if you want something
0:16
light and delicious, this recipe is for you.
0:20
It's an easy cold salad
0:22
that we're gonna put together real quickly.
0:24
Let's take a look at this, y'all.
0:26
Let me get my, done used all my whiskers.
0:29
We've got some olive oil that we're going in.
0:33
This is basically my favorite dressing.
0:40
(grater scratching and tapping)
0:45
Anytime I can use lemon zest, I'm all for it.
0:47
Tastes like a mouthful of sunshine and I love it.
0:53
With our zest, I've got some juice, lemon juice.
0:57
And we've got some vinegar.
1:00
And this is just a salad dressing.
1:03
And then honey for some sweetness.
1:08
Now what we're gonna be marinating in this today,
1:12
I must admit, is not something that I went to
1:15
a lot when I was younger.
1:18
Two tablespoons of honey.
1:22
We're doing radishes today.
1:25
Cucumber, tomato, onion salad
1:29
was on our table almost every meal
1:32
in the summertime when we were growing up.
1:35
My great-great made it and we love it.
1:38
And so this is kind of a twist on that.
1:41
And we're using radishes with our onions
1:44
and our cucumber rather than tomatoes.
1:47
All right, let's whip this together.
1:59
We've got our cucumbers.
2:01
You can use regular cucumbers if you'd like.
2:03
I love English cucumbers too.
2:05
Any cucumber that you have.
2:07
The best ones will come outta your yard though.
2:12
And finally, our radishes that we've washed and sliced.
2:15
If you wanna try to find some tricolored radishes,
2:18
that's really pretty too.
2:21
And this is it, y'all.
2:22
You wanna make sure that we get
2:23
all of this tossed really well.
2:28
I'm gonna hit it with a little black pepper too,
2:30
'cause I like black pepper.
2:34
Now the only thing about this recipe,
2:36
you have to do this a little ahead of a time.
2:37
We're gonna put this into the refrigerator
2:40
and let all these flavors marry up for one hour.
2:44
So y'all don't do anything for too long.
2:46
But do something for just a minute and then come back.
2:48
We'll finish our salads.
2:52
One hour older, y'all.
2:57
So this is nice and cool now.
2:59
All of our flavors have married.
3:01
The last step for this, I've got some fresh basil.
3:04
Save this for the end.
3:07
So let's talk about what we have in there.
3:17
Drawing a complete blank.
3:19
- [Camera Operator] Honey.
3:26
- [Production] Lemon zest.
3:27
- Lemon zest and lemon juice.
3:31
So now, get our fresh basil in here.
3:35
Give it a little turn.
3:38
And it looks, you know,
3:39
it's fitting for a Mother's Day lunch.
3:42
Looks a little, little kind of fancy.
3:45
It's not something that you eat every day.
3:48
All of our colors are so pretty together.
3:53
So if your mama likes cucumbers and onions and radishes,
3:58
this is a good dish for you to carry to her house today.
4:05
Let's give it a taste test, what do you say?
4:15
I'm not kidding, y'all.
4:16
This is a, Mama come try this.
4:18
- [Mama] You think it's something I wanted?
4:20
- This is delicious, y'all.
4:22
Try this for your Mother's Day this year.
4:25
I'll see y'all around the kitchen.
