- Hey everybody, I'm Bobby,
0:01
and I've got another great summer recipe here for you
0:04
that I think you're really gonna like.
0:07
Full of flavor and fresh
0:09
and just really, really satisfying
0:13
little dish here. - That smells so good.
0:15
Because I'm tearing it up
0:16
and you can really get a good whiff of it.
0:19
This is a lime and mint berry salad.
0:24
We're sort of just gonna mix a bunch of ingredients together
0:28
But I'm tearing up some mint leaves here,
0:31
it's fresh mint leaves from mama's garden.
0:34
And like Theresa just mentioned, they smell so good.
0:37
They become so fragrant when you tear 'em.
0:40
I'm gonna start by whisking together in my bowl
0:42
a little bit of lime juice,
0:44
which we've talked about this before.
0:45
That's a really nice, natural...
0:46
Not only, you know, citrus is just...
0:49
Citrus just adds so much in all kinds of recipes,
0:52
but it's a really nice, natural preservative too,
0:54
so things don't turn on you.
1:00
and a half cup honey,
1:01
I'm gonna go ahead and whisk together in the bowl.
1:12
we'll just add all of our berries
1:21
Nothing like good, too, local honey
1:24
and oh boy, do we have it here in Savannah.
1:30
Local honey has just...
1:35
Maybe even some, I don't know.
1:37
It's in a lot of natural remedies out there
1:40
(measuring cup clinking)
1:42
You got a sore throat, cold,
1:45
little local honey always helps.
1:50
So yeah, just my lime juice and honey together here.
1:59
Oh, I see, of course.
2:00
Phew! Man. (bowl thunking)
2:03
This is gonna just be bursting with flavor, I think.
2:07
(whisk clinking) (bowl thunking)
2:09
So to that, we'll add our berries,
2:13
some fresh blueberries,
2:19
some fresh blackberries.
2:20
Golly, I used to pick these all day long.
2:23
We've talked a lot about Albany, Georgia
2:26
down in the southwest part of the state where we're from.
2:29
We used to pick blackberries all day long
2:33
and they were everywhere.
2:35
Gotta watch out picking blackberries though,
2:37
because rattlesnakes. (bowl thunking)
2:40
Rattlesnakes love blackberry bushes.
2:47
And some strawberries.
2:51
I was concerned that it might not all fit,
2:54
I'm gonna give this a little stir
2:56
and then see if I can get the rest of those blueberries in.
3:07
Mint is so easy to grow in your garden
3:10
(bowl clinking and scraping)
3:13
and it's such a nice thing to have on hand
3:16
for times exactly like this.
3:19
Or if you like good tea at home,
3:23
mint really, really adds a lot.
3:28
I don't know, lamb chops, lamb lollipops,
3:32
mint, some sauces and things that you can make with mint.
3:36
It's pretty versatile. (spatula tapping)
3:38
Yeah, we can fit the rest of these blueberries in.
3:43
(bowl thunking and scraping)
3:50
Nothing like a fresh berry salad
3:52
in the middle of the summertime
3:55
out by the pool or the lake or at the beach,
4:00
wherever you might be.
4:03
And go ahead and add in the rest of our mint.
4:13
Oh man. (bowl scraping)
4:14
And it smells wonderful
4:17
and I'm just gonna toss it,
4:18
try not to beat my berries into juice,
4:23
get 'em coated in that lime juice and the honey.
4:25
(spatula tapping) (bowl thunking)
4:27
Get back in there, blueberry.
4:33
So simple. Anything that's this simple, you know, is good.
4:38
I want a little bit of everything here.
4:40
Blackberry, blueberry,
4:42
raspberry, strawberry, little mint.
4:47
Mm. Mm-hm. (fork clinking)
4:51
- [Paula] Can I taste?
4:54
Beautiful berry salad.
4:57
- I love it when you're here at my house.
5:01
- I love being at your house.
5:03
- Now, is there any sugar in that or just honey?
5:10
- Mm. - Four different kinds
5:12
Fresh mint from your garden.
5:14
- [Paula] Uh-huh. (spatula tapping)
5:16
Yeah, this is an old recipe from your magazine.
5:18
Lime and mint berry salad.
5:23
- Super simple and so good.
5:24
It'd be good on some vanilla ice cream.
5:29
Or pound cake with fresh whipped cream.
5:31
- Or pound cake with fresh whipped cream.
5:34
So, lime and mint berry salad. So great.
5:36
You should make this at home.
5:39
Frozen berries, I don't mind
5:40
if you don't have fresh berries where you are.
5:41
Frozen berries, totally fine.
5:43
- Fresh are better, though.
5:44
- Well, fresh are always better, but not everybody's got it.
5:47
So anyhow, there you go.
5:49
Lime and mint berry salad. - Mm.
5:50
- Please make it and enjoy it.
