- Hey, y'all.
0:01
I'm in here with Emily Peterson.
0:03
You will recognize her
0:04
as the makeup and hair artist that she is.
0:10
Thank goodness she can make me presentable.
0:13
We've been together, how many years now?
0:15
- Pretty good while.
0:16
- I know. Three or four years?
0:18
- Five or six?
0:19
- Five or six? Time flies when you're having a good time.
0:22
- [Eddie] She came on with me.
0:23
- I've been here as long as Eddie has.
0:25
That's crazy to think. - Wow.
0:27
- [Eddie] We started at the same time.
0:28
- And I feel like we've known each other, all of our lives.
0:31
- I know. She's really the real deal, y'all.
0:34
She's such a special lady.
0:37
- Oh honey, hush.
0:39
What did you say? (laughs)
0:40
- You are a very special lady. (laughs)
0:44
- Emily is so talented.
0:46
She and her partner, Chris Johnson.
0:56
Y'all have seen the video with the two of them earlier.
0:59
And the two of them are just so, so talented
1:03
in kind of so many different areas.
1:05
You know, it's just not all about hair,
1:07
or all about makeup or all about...
1:11
- Decorating or...
1:13
- Chris has got a...
1:16
- He's an interior designer.
1:17
So he has that business on his own.
1:18
And then we do events together. So we'll do a floral design.
1:21
We own a venue, so we have that going.
1:25
So, we got our hands on a lot of--
1:27
- But, between the two of y'all,
1:28
y'all got it covered pretty good, Emily.
1:30
- We can handle a lot of things.
1:32
- Yes you can. Look, I mean, starting right here,
1:35
if you'd have seen me this morning before she touched me,
1:38
you would have said she's a magician, not a beautician.
1:40
- (laughs) You give me too much credit.
1:42
- That's what Michael says all the time.
1:45
"Where is that magician?"
1:47
So, I'm gonna share a recipe
1:50
that comes from "Cooking with Paula Deen" magazine.
1:54
And this is a great little Christmas hor d'oeuvres
1:57
and I know you entertain a lot.
1:59
- I do. I love to entertain. So this'll be great.
2:01
- I know. So, I want to share this recipe with you.
2:05
Now I tell you what, if you would start mashing up.
2:11
We gonna start with 1 eight ounce package of softened...
2:15
Do I need to run that in the microwave a second?
2:18
- I think we can get it.
2:19
- You sure?
2:20
Cause I can run it in the microwave for just a minute.
2:24
So let me do that cause...
2:27
- You're the expert.
2:28
- [Paula] No, I just don't want you to struggle.
2:32
It won't take but a minute. So just talk to everybody.
2:36
(Paula laughs)
2:38
- I do like to entertain and I think
2:41
that these are little bite-size things which are great.
2:43
I think they make a...
2:45
this seems to be an easy recipe
2:47
and it makes a big difference
2:48
whenever you serve individual little bites.
2:51
I think it's such a little festive tasty way
2:53
to dress up your holiday party, cocktail party.
2:58
And it looks really impressive,
2:59
and doesn't take that much to do.
3:02
(microwave beeps)
3:03
So, Paula's getting that cream cheese ready, I hear.
3:06
- [Paula] Few more minutes.
3:08
I'm gonna soften it a little bit more.
3:10
- Perfect.
3:11
- [Paula] I didn't want to see you struggle--
3:12
- This does seem like it would be a delicious recipe.
3:15
- [Paula] You know, we are craving in the holiday season.
3:19
We're craving for things that are delicious,
3:22
yet quick and easy.
3:23
- [Emily] Absolutely.
3:25
- [Eddie] You can throw these together so easy.
3:27
- Yes. We're gonna start with a little filo dough,
3:33
mini cups...
3:37
(Paula chuckles)
3:40
You gonna help us, John? - Yeah.
3:42
- All right, and we're gonna start
3:44
with the eight ounce package of cream cheese,
3:47
and then three ounces of blue cheese.
3:55
- [Emily] Very good. You must help Ginny
3:57
in the kitchen all the time.
3:59
- Sometimes he do.
4:00
- I help my mom.
4:01
- Aw, that's so good. I know she appreciates that good help.
4:07
- Okay, baby that's good.
4:10
Now we gonna add walnuts. You wanna put those in there?
4:14
No, no, no.
4:15
Turn it up. It's not for you to eat. (laughs)
4:18
Not yet.
4:19
- [Emily] There you go.
4:22
- [Paula] And now we're gonna put a half a cup
4:26
of fig preserves.
4:30
- [Emily] I love sweet and savory.
4:32
- [Paula] I do too.
4:33
I love fig preserves with blue cheese
4:40
and a fresh fig together.
4:42
Those are so good, y'all.
4:47
So, we are adding something that was really
4:53
not in the original recipe.
4:55
It's just a few strips of bacon to add that smoky taste.
5:01
- Bacon makes everything better.
5:02
- Yes. Yes.
5:04
And then we've got some balsamic vinegar.
5:09
- I used vinegar for my science experiment.
5:11
I used it with baking soda and it's like, "Boom".
5:15
- Wow! You'll have to show Ginny one day.
5:18
All right, we got this already in a glaze,
5:24
but you would start to end up
5:27
with a third of a cup of the glaze.
5:30
You would start with one cup of balsamic vinegar
5:34
and you just cook it down.
5:36
- That's fascinating.
5:37
- Isn't that fascinating? (laughs)
5:40
So we're gonna just fill these up.
5:44
Then you can have the spoon, and I'll use the butter one.
5:53
And we're gonna bake these for 10 minutes,
5:55
but I tell you what, if you didn't time to bake them...
5:58
Everything's done in this so you could certainly
6:03
serve them just like this.
6:05
But, I think by baking them,
6:10
it'll keep these little filo dough shells.
6:15
I think it'll keep them crispier for a little bit longer.
6:19
- It sure looks delicious. I can't wait to try them.
6:24
- So, in the oven for 10 minutes,
6:28
then we're gonna pull those out
6:30
and we're gonna drizzle them with our--
6:33
- [Emily] Hold on, you got one--
6:34
- [Paula] Oh I missed one.
6:36
That's what happens when you're only working with one eye.
6:39
(Paula laughs)
6:43
So, in the oven this goes.
6:49
Ten minutes.
6:50
No butt shots, Eddie.
6:52
You didn't do a butt shot did you?
6:53
(Eddie chuckles)
6:55
Okay. It's been 10 minutes.
7:02
Don't those look good?
7:09
All right, who's gonna get these out
7:13
without burning ourselves.
7:30
And if you would, just put a little dollop.
7:34
I'm gonna have to start with a clean knife, I think.
7:48
- [Eddie] There you go. That's all right.
7:50
- [Emily] That's definitely a drizzle.
7:53
- But, I find myself I ain't got seconds.
7:56
- Now, do you have a trick to drizzling?
7:58
- No, it wouldn't drizzle. This is what I would do.
8:02
- [Emily] Yeah, show me how you do it.
8:04
- [Paula] This is what I would do.
8:06
- [Emily] Mine aren't so pretty.
8:08
- [Paula] I would just take just a...
8:11
I can't see. My distance has gone.
8:17
Am I over it?
8:18
- [Emily] You're over right now.
8:21
- [Paula] Oh, I know I missed it.
8:29
- [Emily] There we go. I got a drizzle.
8:34
- [Paula] I just can't...
8:38
Your depth perception goes when you lose an eye.
8:47
- [Eddie] Chris, if I were you,
8:48
I would jump in there and get a bite.
8:51
- That's what he's good at.
8:53
He always shows up when the food's ready.
8:56
- Here comes our taste-tester.
8:57
- Right on time. (group laughs)
9:03
- [Paula] Grab you one that's got some drizzle on it.
9:07
- [Chris] Cheers.
9:08
- [Paula] Cheers!
9:13
Isn't that delicious and how easy?
9:16
- So good.
9:19
- These are so easy you can do it, Chris.
9:22
- Bon appetit.
9:31
I love the nuts in them.
9:35
- That is delicious.
9:36
- And by baking them off, just that few minutes,
9:38
it just crisps the filo cups right on up.
9:42
- They're perfect. So good.
9:48
- [Paula] You can do it all ahead of time.
9:53
Have it in your muffin tins
9:55
and then right before your guests start coming in--
9:57
- Pop it in the oven.
9:59
- Pop it in the oven and you're there.
10:01
- [Emily] So you can bring these
10:02
to the Christmas party this year.
10:04
- Absolutely and it'll look like I worked forever on them.
10:07
(group laughs)
10:08
- Well if you drizzle them like we did, it will--
10:11
- I think I can drizzle better.
10:13
- You're always good at that.
10:16
- Prove it.
10:18
Let's get you some naked ones.
10:24
There's a knife or do you want a spoon?
10:27
- Let me show you.
10:29
- [Paula] Show us.
10:34
You little turd.
10:35
(group laughs)
10:37
- [Chris] Isn't that beautiful? I think just like that.
10:41
- That's the way you do it. Thank you very much.
10:45
It's so nice to have a man around the house.
10:48
- For sure. You show up just in time.
10:54
- Love and best dishes. Have a good par-tay.
