In this episode of what's cooking with Paula Deen, we have a summer mashup of scenes from Positively Paula. In the first part of the podcast, Bobby Deen talks to some of the customers in the Lady and Sons restaurant to hear stories about food growing up like eating hoe cakes, fried chicken and collard greens and what they all think of Paula's fried chicken.
Later, Paula drops on by and shows us her slow cooked pot roast with Pepperoncini and then we discover why Georgia shrimp are some of the best in the world and why you only need to cook shrimp for one minute.
After the commercial break, Paula returns and tells us some interesting facts about Julia child and butter. At the end, Jamie stops by for some fried pork chops and Paula learns what Brooke makes better than Paula!.
At the end of the podcast, Paula is joined by Tom Berenger.

well okay take me back to my childhood
0:05
when my grandmother used to make so it's
0:08
like coming here and my favorite part
0:16
was always when your mom would bring out
0:18
LaHood cakes and cheese biscuits I
0:19
thought so famous but she would hand me
0:21
my cheese biscuit this is the country
0:24
that we were up eating we would eat
0:26
fried chicken and collard greens and my
0:28
French cheese candied yams and things
0:31
like that sweet tea and coke a corn
0:34
bread
0:35
nice to meet you Glenn you know I heard
0:39
you at the buff I said this better be
0:40
good

1:14
okay y'all we've got the staff of life
1:17
right here in front of us we got our hot
1:19
biscuits a hell of Pina cornbread and
1:22
our lace hope cakes look at that look
1:25
how being it is I can almost read the
1:27
paper through it
1:28
and that's the weight I don't like it
1:31
alright so here it is y'all this is the
1:36
center of our plate so I'm gonna use my
1:39
big old paddle and see if I can get look
1:45
at that look at that look at those
1:49
pepper genies how beautiful is that
1:57
now this pot roast I just I can't hardly
2:05
wait for y'all to try this this world
2:14
what makes wild Georgia's from our local
2:16
shrimp
2:17
better than any other strip in the world
2:19
okay first place the marsh and the
2:22
salinity and everything we have a great
2:24
taste in srem most of all of our syrup
2:27
or on one or two day boats and that
2:30
means they go out they drag they they're
2:33
not catching thousands of pounds so the
2:35
shrimp are headed there's still good
2:37
firm beautiful quality when we get them
2:39
now you've got a shelf life on a good
2:42
local shrimp that came off a one or two
2:45
day boat for let's say a week if you
2:47
keep it ice washed and proper shrimp
2:50
from all around the world a pawn raised
2:52
them have no flavor to them
2:54
now they catch shrimp down in the Gulf
2:55
of Mexico which you know
2:57
times we've seen those they come up
2:59
fresh but they have an iodine he tastes
3:02
they don't taste as good as ours so as
3:04
far as the taste and everything else
3:06
ours is the greatest shrimp going it's
3:10
all in the cooking so if you get a
3:12
larger shrimp just we recommend when
3:14
we're cooking not over about a minute
3:16
once it turns pink you've already
3:17
seasoned the water and everything salt
3:19
obey or whatever you season it with but
3:22
the main thing on the shrimp is don't
3:23
overcook it because from time to time
3:25
some people come back to us and say who
3:27
Lord they were tough or whatever well
3:29
the thing is they cooked them for three
3:31
or four minutes they've cooked all the
3:33
good out of it the brown shrimp and
3:36
white shrimp six and one half a dozen
3:38
the other you get a good quality shrimp
3:40
that that's the main thing the good
3:42
quality shrimp you can't have something
3:43
that's a week old and you know try to
3:45
compare it to something so yeah both of
3:49
them are equally good all right so I'm
3:52
gonna switch this to one of my neatest
3:55
Bowls in the world this is actually a
3:57
hushpuppy Bowl ghoul so you want this
4:00
pretty thick because you don't want when
4:03
you drop your fish puppy batter you
4:06
don't want it going
4:07
every whichaway so this is what that
4:11
extra little bowl is for gone it's for
4:16
your water because before I can drop the
4:20
hush puppy in the pot you have to dip
4:22
your spoon in water and when you drop
4:25
that hush puppy in it'll all just slide
4:28
right out of that spoon
4:30

one eight hundred six five nine 3300
5:30
that's one eight hundred six five nine
5:33
3300 so I've got some interesting facts
5:41
that I want to tell you all about Julia
5:43
and I do love and adore this one when
5:47
she was doing Julia's baking show she
5:52
used 753 pounds of butter to make that
6:00
show seven hundred and fifty three
6:02
pounds of butter Julia's used I love
6:06
that fact you know to this day when I'm
6:10
out about people call me the butter lady
6:12
and that's alright with me that is
6:16
perfectly alright with me because there
6:19
was a lady that used more butter that at
6:21
least as much butter as I use possibly
6:24
more and that would stew your child so
6:28
you put me in her company and I'm just
6:30
fine I'm just fine with that doll
6:33
alright so we got our chicken Brown I've
6:36
got our bacon back
6:40
back in our pan and now we're going to
6:43
add our cognac and we're gonna try to
6:46
flame it how's that okay here we go
7:03
Oh Julie your girl now that's getting it
7:10
look at that man
7:12

7:16

7:23
Ian I talked to Bobby just before I
7:26

7:27

7:28
why they're not hurt anymore though poor
7:30
Joe because he's the firstborn how come
7:33
I wasn't the first thanks for having me
7:35
I love your head off
7:36
love you do mmm I love you so much come
7:39
on and you know I got lipstick all over
7:41
you and you know I don't I don't care
7:43
how old they get then we'll always be
7:46
your babies well seriously always oh
7:49
quit fussing all right Jamie's favorite
7:51
meal in the whole world if you ask Jamie
7:53
what he wants for dessert what do you
7:55
ask for a chain of like fried pork chop
7:57
please
7:57
uh-huh for dessert so that's what I'm
8:00
fixing for him today and it's just me
8:02
and Jamie Oh
8:04
so does Brooke Mike I'm better than mama
8:06
no way mama yeah I know
8:10
no Brooke doesn't make fried pork chops
8:13
I was gonna say you've never fried
8:14
anything in your house one time Brooke
8:16
baked some and I love them
8:18
yeah but listen when Brooke makes pork
8:20
chops for dinner I eat the pork chop and
8:22
then for dessert the pork chop sandwich
8:26
I'll tell you one thing broke makes
8:28
better than you and that's meatloaf
8:30
Brooke team makes the best meatloaf I've
8:32
ever eaten in my life she does she does
8:35
and you know the best thing about me
8:37
telling you that is that I'm gonna get
8:39
meatloaf soon because every time I tell
8:41
you somebody does something better than
8:42
you you bet I know I did
8:45
time and time again I love it when you
8:47
take the challenge I will I'll take that
8:50
challenge no tomorrow
8:52
yes own a petite Sonia I love you mama
8:58
I love I'm proud of you and I'm proud of
9:00
you thanks for her I'm so blessed
9:03
mmm no we got oh golly Moses
9:08
what is your favorite movie that you've
9:10
ever done and I'll tell you mine well uh
9:16
yeah I get that question but I bet
9:19
you've been a long time ago that might
9:22
have been easier but it's now over 40
9:24
years then you go oh well this and I
9:26
kind of think of all these different
9:29
jobs is like kids and you know which one
9:31
is your favorite
9:34
I hear you that's my answer I give kids
9:39
your favor
9:40
yeah like different ones for different
9:42
reasons you know it could have been a
9:44
great time it could have been well I
9:48
always wanted to do that type of thing
9:49
or it could have been a blue ribbon
9:52
location or it could have been the
9:55
greatest cast I ever worked with I could
9:57
have you know I mean there's so many
9:58
different elements involved but I I
10:01
suppose I have to say platoon because it
10:05
was the one that sky rocket shot my
10:07
career and many other careers too like
10:08
Forest Whitaker sure with Gene you know
10:13
and then all of so many of us you know
10:15
yeah now how do you eat your meat I
10:18
forgot to ask you medium rare
10:20
yes if you just said well done I'd had
10:24
to come over there and give you the one
10:26
I'm my mother's my mother do that take
10:30
her out to dinner and she goes I want it
10:32
well done and she'd go don't do that to
10:38
the steak just have a hamburger I know
10:43
but I would cringe it I know and if it
10:46
was a French chef they'd probably come
10:47
out and throw it at oh they would refuse
10:54
yeah they would say the space that you
11:05
live in really affects the way you feel
11:07
so my first recommendation is start by
