hey y'all welcome to what's cooking with
0:02
Paula Dean well I'll tell y'all What A
0:05
lot's cooking cuz guess what time it is
0:08
oh yeah my favorite holiday of the year
0:11
is it yes
0:13
Thanksgiving Thanksgiving it's all about
0:15
the 4fs y'all uh
0:19
family friends fun food and fun all
0:23
right I love it you know I there's
0:26
nobody that loves to give more than me I
0:29
love love giving but our family has been
0:32
so
0:34
blessed that I can't think of anything
0:36
to give them you know we're all guilty
0:39
of going out and getting whatever we
0:40
want or need so when it comes holiday
0:43
time you know we I don't need anything I
0:46
don't want anything so well I got good
0:50
news for you I'm not used to getting
0:51
Thanksgiving gifts so I know that's what
0:54
I'm saying I love it y'all cuz we're not
0:58
we're not beating down we trying are you
1:00
combining Thanksgiving and Christmas
1:02
together well no I'm comparing
1:04
Thanksgiving and Christmas together
1:06
that's why I love Thanksgiving so
1:08
because you don't have the burden of
1:09
trying to buy everybody that perfect
1:12
gift and figure out what they want uh I
1:15
have found one thing though that they
1:17
don't
1:20
return Your
1:28
Love my son is so funny I know they
1:33
don't return my
1:36
love some of them
1:39
don't thank goodness you're not one of
1:41
them no sunny boy that was so good that
1:46
was good I do have something that they
1:48
don't return my love or your money or my
1:54
money that's the one thing I found that
1:57
nobody ever returns they don't take back
2:00
back to the store and return money too
2:02
funny I I'll be the first to tell you
2:04
that I am so blessed and so fortunate I
2:06
don't need or or want for anything I
2:10
feel the same way son I don't want y'all
2:12
spending your hard-earned money on me
2:14
but there's this pressure that comes
2:15
with this time of makes you feel like
2:16
you have to go out and buy stuff I think
2:19
that I think that some of the uh I think
2:21
that some of the best things that you
2:23
can do is is just spend time with with
2:26
one the older I get the the less I think
2:28
about like gift but if you're going to
2:30
give people gifts you can make things
2:32
from scratch you do a lot of crafts
2:34
that's a really nice gift to GI
2:35
something something really person listen
2:37
why don't why don't take why don't we
2:39
take a second to get over that are we
2:42
breaking already that line that you
2:44
threw me about my
2:46
love let let me regroup myself and uh
2:50
we'll be right back we'll think of some
2:52
stuff

3:41
659
3:43
3300 that's 1 800 659
3:48
3300 so let's talk about than well hey
3:51
y'all welcome back and uh I'm sitting
3:53
here enjoying my time with my youngest
3:55
son Bobby uh y'all he's so funny he is
3:58
so so funny
4:00
uh so what are you thinking for
4:03
Thanksgiving uh you know what this is
4:05
just I love this time of year um fall is
4:09
just the best because you get some of
4:10
the best fruits and vegetables uh at
4:13
this time of year and it used to be that
4:16
fall was followed by winter I don't know
4:17
if y'all remember that but we used to
4:19
have a thing called winter when I was a
4:20
kid I don't 8 happen to Winter I don't
4:23
know I don't know hot um but you know I
4:28
I love this time of year because of uh
4:31
the great memories that I have uh
4:33
growing up Thanksgiving has just uh it's
4:36
always been a time where we we've never
4:38
had a really big extended family and um
4:42
but the but Thanksgiving was always the
4:44
time when we did gather together in
4:46
Statesboro Georgia with our extended
4:49
family aunts and uncles and cousins from
4:51
Florida and we would get together and
4:53
just the the just the best from scratch
4:56
Thanksgiving dishes and and um it's just
5:00
a great time of year and now as an adult
5:03
um we always get together and go to
5:05
Mom's house people ask me all the time
5:08
uh about being Paula's son and what it's
5:11
like to be in our family and I've always
5:13
kiddingly said that it's fattening um
5:16
which is it's kind of a joke but kind of
5:17
it's not you know because we're when we
5:20
do get together it's always around food
5:22
and some of the things that I enjoy the
5:24
most I don't really eat that often but
5:26
when I go to my mom's house inevitably
5:29
there will be um cakes and cookies and
5:32
things that she's made on the countertop
5:34
and I'll always find myself snacking on
5:36
those things so he goes straight to the
5:38
pantry straight to the pantry and and
5:41
and and I rare and it's not because I'm
5:43
passes up my homemade stuff and goes and
5:45
gets salting crackers oh stop it I think
5:48
that that goes back to how much I love
5:49
cornbread stuffing I'm a I'm a big
5:51
starch fan and U me too your uh people
5:56
call it people call it some people call
5:58
it dressing some people call call it
5:59
stuffing it has different names but I've
6:02
always called it cornbread dressing and
6:04
I think it's just my favorite thing at
6:07
Thanksgiving I think is that cornbread
6:08
dressing and giblet gravy and we always
6:11
do a um a ham and a turkey uh macaroni
6:16
and cheese and of course the the beans
6:19
and sweet potato sou and turnup greens
6:23
and we I feel mashed potatoes we have
6:25
every kind of potato born to man on that
6:28
day cuz I love
6:30
fortunate to get together and to have so
6:33
much to be thankful for and so many
6:36
family members to be thankful for and uh
6:39
and to just be so blessed in every way
6:41
so I'm looking forward this year again
6:44
to coming to your house and um a lot of
6:47
you know if you keep up with the podcast
6:48
or if you watch my mom's show positively
6:51
Paula um so proud of that by the way I
6:54
watched it last night with you did I
6:57
forgot I forgot it was on well my wife
7:01
Claudia uh who is just a hilarious
7:05
person so cute she's really some of the
7:07
funniest people that I know don't really
7:10
realize that they're funny and cloud is
7:12
funny in that same way um but we we were
7:14
at home last night she said uh tonight
7:17
is my show with your mom we got to
7:18
record it and uh so we did and when when
7:21
the time came for it to start she said I
7:23
I don't care that we're recording let's
7:24
watch it turn it on I was like okay all
7:27
right you want to watch yourself on
7:28
television so I turned it on
7:30
and uh and it started and within 30
7:33
seconds she was going oh my God turn it
7:35
off turn it off turn it turn it I look
7:38
like an idiot I sound so stupid turn the
7:43
channel and I said welcome to my world
7:46
because I have done lots and lots of TV
7:49
with you and with my brother and with
7:51
you know different people yeah and on my
7:53
own over the years and I don't I just
7:54
don't watch the stuff that I do because
7:57
um well the way I look at it is not the
7:59
consumer of it I'm not the person that
8:01
I'm making the the TV shows for whenever
8:03
I'm able to do it so anyhow Cloud got a
8:06
little taste of her own medicine last
8:07
night when she saw herself and said is
8:09
that what I look like is that what I
8:11
sound like I said it certainly is looks
8:13
just like you sounds just like
8:15
you but it was a show the show my mom
8:19
show CL was cooking my mom show last
8:21
night po my mother's show last night
8:24
positively Paula featured my wife
8:26
Claudia who without my mother knowing
8:30
um was making lunch for my mom and it
8:32
was a vegan lunch and mom didn't know
8:35
that that was going to happen and uh I
8:39
think you enjoyed it it was kind of hard
8:41
to tell I did the only thing I I I
8:43
enjoyed it all Bobby the only thing was
8:46
that dessert that brown knot of
8:49
something it was like in a ball it was
8:51
kind of dark date paste you didn't like
8:55
it not really she's probably not as
8:58
sweet as you were expecting well I fixed
9:04
it I fixed it for did yeah you did cloud
9:08
is a is a really good little cook she in
9:11
her own right she really knows how to
9:13
cook really well she's really fast what
9:16
she doesn't do well is the dishes in
9:18
fact in
9:20
fact Cloud will will will walk by the
9:24
sink while I'm washing dishes and just
9:26
start piling stuff into it and laugh and
9:29
smile at me as she keeps on walking by
9:31
so she loves to cook but she doesn't
9:32
like to clean up after herself too
9:34
much just kid I do that to Michael it
9:36
makes him so mad to throw dirty things
9:39
as he's washing dishes in well makes me
9:41
mad too and Cloud knows it so she just
9:45
goes just keeps right on walking my
9:48
favorite part about the show last night
9:49
was when M I have a neat little trick
9:51
with um uh with cutting Tomatoes like
9:54
cherry tomatoes and things if you take
9:56
two plastic tops like Le imagine Lids
10:00
from like a sour cream container or
10:01
something like that and uh put one down
10:05
face up with the uh or or bottom side up
10:07
with the rim up and you fill it with
10:09
cherry tomatoes level them all out and
10:11
put another one on top you got just
10:13
enough room between the lids to run a a
10:16
a knife and cut all of the tomatoes cut
10:18
them all at one time in one swath and
10:21
it's a great uh time saer and a super
10:24
little little tip and I showed my mom
10:26
how to do this I don't know a few years
10:28
ago and uh mom showed it to Cloud last
10:31
night on the show and of course my wife
10:34
looks at my mom and goes oh that's great
10:36
Bobby never does that at home just any
10:39
opportunity to throw me under the bus on
10:42
television see I don't even remember her
10:44
saying that of course it's the first
10:46
thing she
10:47
said so now back to Thanksgiving well
10:50
you probably don't need to do that many
10:51
tomatoes at one time at home uh you know
10:54
what I do find myself doing a lot of
10:56
tomato what I don't have you know what
10:58
it is really for me is I don't have
10:59
those Lids the lids that are the lids
11:02
that are really great to use are um if
11:05
you've ever seen these plastic
11:06
containers that are like like they're
11:07
like quart size containers they heavy
11:10
dut like what you would find yes like
11:13
what you'd find like an egg drop soup in
11:14
something that can contain those kind of
11:16
Liz and I just don't have them lay on
11:17
you're right so that's I had to dig to
11:19
find two to make them work to show Cloud
11:22
so Thanksgiving is coming and we're
11:24
going to come to your house so I can't
11:26
wait to see what cloud is going to bring
11:28
me either y'all probably we probably
11:32
won't recognize it no you will oh you
11:36
you think we will probably gonna bring a
11:39
big bowl of flax seeds and stuff I don't
11:42
recognize and some Chia some chia seeds
11:45
the wor is a oh a che we might bring the
11:47
garden
11:49
salad and a big bowl of fruit listen and
11:53
you know what that girl's going to make
11:55
Thanksgiving cuz we going to have more
11:57
fun with her it's good to be she all
11:58
have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Happy
12:02
Thanksgiving y'all God bless the space
