- Hello y'all.
0:03
Another Quarantine Cooking day that I'm not cooking.
0:07
(giggling)
0:08
I'm just sharing some treasured letters
0:12
from a lot of y'all out there.
0:15
And so this is just my way of saying thank you,
0:19
because it's very hard to pick up the phone and call
0:21
or to write thank-you notes.
0:24
So, to me this is the most productive way for me to do it.
0:30
All right, so I gotta kick out of this first letter
0:34
that I'm fixing to read to y'all.
0:37
It is from Marvin Deen,
0:40
and he spells his name D-E-E-N just like us.
0:45
And he said, "Lover of all things butter,
0:48
"Paula, I'm certain we're related somewhere down the line.
0:54
"We have really enjoyed your Quarantine Cooking segments
0:57
"and hope you keep it going well
0:59
"after this quarantine craziness has passed.
1:02
"We were watching a segment the other day
1:04
"and you made mention of Lulu.
1:06
"And I immediately thought of you all
1:10
"when we had the opportunity to meet you and Michael
1:13
"in Dallas in 2012 and Lulu was there.
1:18
"This picture is framed and on our kitchen wall."
1:22
And you are so right Marvin.
1:25
She was kinda brand new to our family in 2012.
1:30
Yes because she...
1:32
How old did you say Lulu is Eddy, eight?
1:34
- [Eddy] Eight yes.
1:35
- Oh my goodness so she was just like a new puppy here.
1:40
And thank you for the picture.
1:45
This is with your partner Mark.
1:49
I think this is Mark and look at little Lulu over there.
1:53
(laughing)
1:55
So that's what Michael and Lulu and me looked like in 2012.
2:00
(laughing)
2:02
And, oh my gosh.
2:06
And Charlie.
2:10
Charlie just loves when I tell my dogs to hush,
2:13
when I'm doing the videos.
2:15
This is Charlie.
2:16
(laughing)
2:17
And he laughs when I tell him to be quiet.
2:19
(laughing)
2:22
All right, let's see.
2:25
That one was Mark.
2:28
And this picture is of Marvin.
2:34
And I never will forget,
2:36
Marvin we had the best time in Dallas.
2:41
We had just taught Lulu to roll over.
2:45
And so we were on stage and I had a treat for Lulu,
2:49
and told her to sit and roll over.
2:54
And she rolled over and she got her treat.
2:58
She was so cute.
3:00
Well she's still cute.
3:02
Can we...
3:03
Come here Lu.
3:05
Precious, do you remember going to Texas?
3:09
Do you remember going to Texas?
3:11
She hates her bones.
3:13
Hates them.
3:14
(giggling)
3:15
- [Eddy] She's a tomboy.
3:16
- Ah huh, 'cause she's a tomboy.
3:17
- [Eddy] She's got big brothers.
3:19
- She's a pretty girl.
3:21
So, Mark sent a lot of recipes to me,
3:27
Marvin, so I'm gonna try to get to him on shows.
3:34
All right, let's see.
3:36
(paper rattling)
3:37
Oh my gosh you sent me pictures and everything.
3:42
"Mama's old-fashion butter rolls."
3:45
I'm getting so hungry.
3:48
Wish this was in color it browned up nicely.
3:51
Maybe in her CorningWare dish.
3:54
Buttermilk pie, buttermilk pie is like
3:57
one of my favorite pies in the world.
4:00
Have we made a buttermilk pie on a video?
4:01
- [Eddy] I don't think we've made one yet.
4:04
- Have we made a chess pie?
4:05
- [Eddy] We haven't made chess pie yet either.
4:07
We made chocolate. - Have we made a custard
4:09
- [Eddy] We've only made a chocolate pie so far.
4:12
- Oh, okay.
4:13
- So its time for pie season. - Well Marvin, yes.
4:17
"And mama's butter rolls."
4:23
Now who would not want a butter roll
4:27
and pinto bean cake?
4:30
(laughing)
4:31
- [Eddy] I'm not sure about that one.
4:34
- Let's see, it's got cinnamon and cloves and allspice
4:37
and raw apples and raisins.
4:40
I grant you it would be delicious. Delicious, and moist.
4:45
You might have a little gas after eating it.
4:48
(chuckles)
4:50
But, oh well you just run out of the room pretty often.
4:54
(laughing)
4:56
"Post Toasties cookies."
5:01
Okay. So I guess this is made with a cereal.
5:06
Yeah.
5:07
"Add three and a half cups of Post Toasties."
5:10
I don't even know if they still make that cereal Eddy,
5:14
do you?
5:15
- [Eddy] No, I'm not sure.
5:18
- Well, thank you, Marvin and Mark.
5:21
That was real sweet.
5:23
I had fun reading the recipes and looking at the pictures
5:27
and bringing back some fun memories.
5:31
Okay. Is that it Eddy? - Uh, we've got these two.
5:34
- Oh, okay.
5:36
All right, let's see.
5:39
"Friends are the flowers in the garden of life."
5:42
What a nice thought that is.
5:45
"Dear Paula.
5:46
"I am so thankful for your Quarantine Cooking Show.
5:49
"I have been enjoying your recipes for years,
5:52
"but this show is way more than cooking.
5:55
"You're offering us friendship.
5:58
"When I feel overwhelmed by all the bad news in the world,
6:02
"I turn on your show and I feel like I'm pulling up a stool
6:06
"to your countertop, investing with my friends,
6:10
"Paula, Eddie, and Theresa.
6:13
"It doesn't matter if the dogs bark or people drop by.
6:17
"That's just life.
6:19
"Thank you for opening your home and your heart.
6:23
"You are giving so many of us comfort
6:25
"when we really need it, and that is not a small thing.
6:30
"Love and best dishes, Carrie Pink."
6:34
Carrie, that was the sweetest card.
6:39
And I thank you so much.
6:45
And you,
6:48
You, hit the nail on the head
6:53
with what you said about friendship,
6:57
especially during a quarantine like we've experienced.
7:02
I've thought about people that were caught in a quarantine
7:08
possibly by themselves.
7:11
And that made me very sad to think about, you know.
7:15
I was forced to quarantine,
7:19
but it was Eddie and
7:24
well Mike and Michael,
7:26
and, of course our children,
7:31
we could not stop seeing our children,
7:34
but we, you know, we were very cautious
7:37
and did it in a safe way, so, I'm glad to know
7:42
that you think of me as being your friend out there
7:45
because I am, I am.
7:49
Thank you for that beautiful sweet card.
7:53
All right, let's see.
7:56
"Dear Paula. My name is Lindsey
7:58
"and I'm a teacher in Boston, Massachusetts.
8:02
"The front of this card is my neighborhood, Beacon Hill.
8:05
"I know you love flowers and take pride in your garden,
8:10
"so this card reminded, reminded me of you."
8:16
Oh my goodness, she has hydrangeas.
8:19
Honey, we are crazy for hydrangeas.
8:23
We have got them thick in this yard, all over this yard.
8:28
And you know, you can cut them first thing in the morning
8:32
after they feel kind of crunchy.
8:34
If you feel all of them and they're real soft,
8:37
it's too early to cut them.
8:39
But if you wait until they have a little crisp to them,
8:43
and make sure you cut them like by eight o'clock
8:45
in the morning and bring them in
8:47
and put them in water and they will dry beautifully.
8:51
And I'll use those year round.
8:53
I'll pull them out and stick them in my Christmas tree,
8:56
you know, to fill in spots.
8:57
They're just, they're just beautiful.
9:00
All right, so
9:02
(paper rattling)
9:04
"You are truly an inspiration."
9:06
Thank you. "Not only a cook,
9:08
"but as a person.
9:09
"Watching your videos have been very comforting.
9:12
"It has been a gift and it makes me feel
9:16
"I'm right there in your kitchen.
9:18
"I so admire the way you honor your brother, Bubba,
9:21
"in your videos and dishes, and I do the same for my Gram
9:26
"whenever I bake. You are so strong."
9:32
Well, thank you, honey.
9:35
I appreciate it.
9:39
I don't, I don't know what to say about that.
9:47
For the longest time I felt like I wasn't strong and,
9:51
but I've realized over the years that, you know,
9:57
I may not be as strong a person as I would like to be,
10:01
but I'm pretty strong, I'm pretty tough.
10:04
And I appreciate you mentioning my brother because
10:07
I lost him a little over a year ago from pancreatic cancer.
10:12
And, I had the pleasure of,
10:16
of having him here with me
10:17
the last year and a half of his life.
10:21
And, whoa, that was a tough one because
10:28
Bubba and I lost our parents very young.
10:30
And I took over raising him when he was just 16, so he was,
10:35
he was a little bit more than like a brother to me,
10:37
but, thank you. Thank you for thinking of him.
10:41
"I have included a recipe
10:42
"that's been passed down in my family for years.
10:45
"I type and add photos of my recipes, it's the teacher in me
10:49
(chuckles)
10:50
"And I hope it's easy to follow.
10:52
"I know you prefer recipes that are a one-bowler.
10:55
"So I have a feeling you might enjoy this one."
10:58
Yes, I do like one-bowlers. I'm not,
11:00
I'm not embarrassed to admit that.
11:04
"I can't tell you how simple and delicious
11:06
"this pineapple pudding is both hot and cold.
11:09
"It's my favorite side dish, although each time I make it,
11:13
"it somehow takes up my whole plate.
11:16
"Thank you for taking the time to read my note.
11:18
"You're truly so genuine, genuine and charismatic."
11:26
(laughing)
11:27
Charismatic
11:29
"And I can't wait to watch more
11:31
"of your truly amazing videos."
11:33
Well, thank you so much-- (dogs barking loudly)
11:37
Hush!
11:40
Sorry.
11:41
(laughing)
11:45
- [Eddy] But we will definitely have to make that.
11:48
I'm curious about the pineapple pudding.
11:49
- The pineapple pudding,
11:51
I can tell you right now, it's gonna be so good.
11:53
It's going to be like a bread pudding Eddy,
11:56
- [Eddy] Yeah.
11:57
- with pineapples.
11:59
And I bet it would be so delicious
12:03
with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
12:06
(laughing)
12:07
Yeah. I mean, this is so--
12:09
Oh gosh, this is so easy.
12:12
"Four eggs, one stick of unsalted butter."
12:15
Well, you know what?
12:17
My recipes will say unsalted. I never use unsalted butter.
12:22
Never, because even in sweet dishes y'all,
12:26
I like that salty and sweet taste.
12:30
"One loaf of Italian bread broken into pieces.
12:33
"Use the whole loaf and one 20-ounce can
12:37
"of crushed pineapple and one cup of white sugar.
12:42
"Preheat the oven to four hundred degrees,
12:45
"grease a baking pan, I use a nine-by-nine,
12:47
"but a nine-by-13 would work too.
12:50
"Melt the butter over low heat.
12:52
"Cover the pan completely with the broken pieces
12:56
"of Italian bread, whisk the eggs together in a large bowl.
13:04
"The more you whisk, the fluffier the pudding.
13:08
"Add to the eggs, the melted butter, sugar,
13:11
"and crushed pineapple. Stir until well combined.
13:15
"Pour the mixture over the bread pieces
13:18
"and bake until bubbly and golden brown on top,
13:21
"about 30 to 40 minutes.
13:24
"Enjoy warm and cold."
13:29
I am so in. Y'all watch the videos
13:31
'cause this one is gonna be coming up soon.
13:35
(laughing)
13:36
- Thank you, thank you.
13:37
Thank you, Lindsey.
13:39
(laughing) Loving bestie she's y'all.
13:42
Till next time.
