0:00
- Hey friends.
0:01
It's me, Paula.
0:03
And, I'm not cooking today again.
0:06
Once in a while, I love to just sit down
0:08
and share these incredible letters and notes
0:13
I get from y'all out there.
0:16
They're just too good not to share.
0:18
So that's what I'm doing today.
0:20
But before I get started sharing some of these letters,
0:26
I just want to say,
0:29
I hope and pray for the Gulf Coast.
0:35
I did not realize that Hurricane Sally
0:39
was going to be so forceful.
0:42
I don't know if anybody realized her power.
0:46
But I just want everybody to know
0:48
that I'm thinking of y'all.
0:50
The Gulf States mean so much to me
0:54
and my family and my friends.
0:57
We just love the beautiful area.
1:00
And I know when you live on the coast, like we do
1:05
that, you know, you're gonna be rolling the dice
1:10
that sometimes we have to pay a price for the beauty
1:14
that we get to experience every day.
1:17
But just know that you're in our thoughts and prayers
1:20
and hope that y'all can make a speedy speedy recovery.
1:25
Living here in Savannah on the coast
1:29
we have been so fortunate because,
1:31
Savannah is like in a little alcove
1:34
at the only Eastern part of the State.
1:37
And so often, we get bypassed with these terrible storms.
1:42
But then that leaves poor South Carolina and North Carolina
1:49
kind of defenseless, you might say.
1:53
But just know, like I said, that we're thinking about you
1:56
and I'm gonna see what I can do to maybe find out
2:00
who I can send donations to or something like that.
2:05
But, good luck to all of y'all.
2:10
So, that was what was on my brain right man.
2:14
So, I'm gonna read this sweet little letter, Eddie.
2:18
(laughing)
2:19
It came from a little 10 year old girl.
2:22
It says, dear Miss Paula Deen.
2:24
My name is Mary Zimmerman.
2:27
And I'm 10 years old.
2:29
We live in Westminster, Maryland.
2:31
We love watching your quarantine cooking.
2:34
Can you make a pizza?
2:36
(chuckling)
2:37
We like pizza with the whole wheat crust.
2:40
The only thing you change is when you put the flour in,
2:44
you put in half whole wheat and half regular.
2:48
It is really good.
2:50
I like it better than regular crust.
2:53
And we hope you like the recipe.
2:56
Well, thank you Mary.
2:57
You know what?
2:58
I don't keep much whole wheat flour around the house.
3:01
I know that might sound strange, but I don't.
3:04
But I am gonna try to remember to pick up
3:06
some whole wheat flour.
3:08
And we just might try to make your pizza one day.
3:12
But I tell you what, Miss. Paula has got real lazy in her...
3:16
(chuckling)
3:17
In her old age.
3:19
Oh!
3:22
I cheat.
3:23
I cheat Mary.
3:25
And I buy the crust already ready to go.
3:28
(laughing)
3:29
Shh. Don't tell anybody.
3:31
(laughing)
3:34
Thank you Mary.
3:36
All right.
3:38
The next one that I wanna share with you'll
3:41
is from Laurie.
3:46
She sent me...
3:47
I love this card.
3:48
Looks very...
3:52
Um...
3:53
- [Eddie] It looks like the earrings on your jewelry show.
3:55
(Eddie laughing)
3:56
- It does. I got...
3:57
Yes
3:59
My line of jewelry, you know, I'm on JTV,
4:03
now and again, with my new line of jewelry,
4:07
the quarantine is kinda separate...
4:10
Had us separated for awhile,
4:12
but I just did three shows
4:15
and I've got another one coming up.
4:16
We in 80?
4:18
- [Eddie] The 23rd of September.
4:21
- 23rd of September.
4:24
Okay. So, if y'all wanna watch, just check my calendar
4:27
and it'll tell you what time and all that.
4:29
And I do it virtual.
4:31
You know, here at the house.
4:33
But this looks very yacht, like a yacht.
4:36
That's what I'm trying to say.
4:37
And that's what I've said about this earrings, Eddie.
4:39
- [Eddie] Right.
4:40
- It reminds me, I need to be on a boat.
4:42
(chuckling)
4:43
All right.
4:45
So, this letter comes from Laurie Louis.
4:50
And she said, hello Paula.
4:51
Thank you so much for doing your quarantine cooking videos.
4:54
They are so entertaining.
4:56
And I've learned a lot of good recipes.
4:59
I hope you continue to do them.
5:01
Thank you Laurie because, I'm gonna try to keep doing them.
5:06
'Cause I've enjoyed
5:09
just making that connection with y'all.
5:12
And you going to say that you've noticed
5:14
that I have numerous towels hanging on my oven
5:17
and thought you might like two more.
5:19
I have enclosed two of my favorite new towels
5:23
that we have just launched.
5:25
I think they will be perfect for your Southern kitchen.
5:29
And please, say hello to Eddie and Teresa.
5:33
Their hard work is appreciated too.
5:36
And Bobby should cook with you more often.
5:38
You two are hilarious together.
5:41
I love cooking with my little Bobby.
5:44
You have asked people to request recipes.
5:47
So I would love to request your favorite muffin
5:51
or bread with pumpkin.
5:53
And I do.
5:56
I have some great breads.
5:58
Don't I, Eddie? - [Eddie] Yeah.
6:00
Well actually, I think Bobby's pumpkin corn muffins
6:05
just posted about a week ago.
6:07
- That's exactly right.
6:09
Bobby has been filling in for me, y'all.
6:13
Because I'm just on the tail end
6:17
of my recovery from a surgery.
6:19
So Bobby was doing my quarantine cooking videos for me.
6:24
And he just...
6:25
You know, Bobby cooks healthy.
6:27
Health-ier.
6:28
- [Eddie] Well, those were some yummy--
6:30
- Those were so yummy.
6:32
And what did he call them?
6:35
- [Eddie] They're pumpkin corn, corn--
6:37
- Pumpkin Cornbread.
6:39
- [Eddie] Muffins, yeah. - Yes, Muffins.
6:40
And they were delicious, Laurie.
6:44
So, how could she find that recipe?
6:46
It would be-- - [Eddie] It's on our YouTube.
6:47
- It's on our YouTube--
6:49
- [Eddie] It just posted, so--
6:50
- But anyway, I'll keep this in mind.
6:53
I got on a kick.
6:56
I love zucchini bread.
6:59
Love, love, loves zucchini bread.
7:03
You know, it's like eating cake.
7:05
But my latest cookbook is
7:08
Paula Deen's Southern Bacon Cookbook.
7:12
There are fabulous, fabulous recipes in there
7:17
for loaded...
7:21
Loaded banana bread, and blueberry muffins.
7:25
I never make my blueberry muffins any other way,
7:28
but the recipe in that cookbook.
7:31
But there is lots of muffins and breads in there.
7:35
So, you can check that out.
7:37
So, I wanna show y'all the towels that Laurie sent me.
7:42
And this is...
7:43
She slipped her card in here.
7:46
And it's called Sweet Tea Hostess.
7:49
And, this card entitles me to 20% off of my first order.
7:57
So join us at social media @SweetTeaHostess.
8:03
All one word.
8:10
(laughing)
8:11
Laurie Louis.
8:12
I liked that name.
8:13
Anyway, look it...
8:15
I am nuts for tea towels.
8:17
And I specially adore the tea towels
8:20
that are made out of the old linen sacks,
8:24
the old flour sacks.
8:26
You know, you actually used to get flour in them,
8:29
and they were made out of a material
8:33
that was meant for you to save
8:36
and make a dress or shirt out of the material.
8:41
And a lot of people in the older days
8:46
would save the flour sacks
8:48
and make their children's clothes.
8:51
It's hard to believe it.
8:53
But it's the truth.
8:57
And this is that flour sack material that I love so much.
9:07
Fueled by coffee and biscuits.
9:10
(laughing)
9:11
That's perfect, Laurie.
9:14
I love the size of it.
9:16
You know, I like them big enough if I've got
9:20
a sheet pan full of biscuits.
9:22
You know, I like to put them in my basket
9:24
and be able to cover them up with a towel.
9:26
Well this one is big enough to put in the bottom of a basket
9:30
and cover up all those biscuits and keeping them warm.
9:35
And, I like this one too.
9:38
In a Southern home, the front door is always open
9:41
and the sweet tea is always cold.
9:46
(chuckling)
9:47
No hot tea for us Southerners.
9:50
(chuckling)
9:51
Well, except for my Peggy.
9:53
Now, she gets up and has her hot tea
9:56
every morning for breakfast.
9:57
But this one is the same size as this one.
10:01
And I think it's adorable.
10:02
And I love the Navy and white Laurie.
10:06
Thank you so so much.
10:08
And I'm gonna keep your card as a reminder
10:12
that I can order more towels from you.
10:17
So, thank you, thank you.
10:19
Alright Eddie, I got time for one more.
10:24
I hope--
10:24
- [Eddie] We got time...
10:25
Yeah. A quick one.
10:26
- Okay. This is not real quick.
10:28
- [Eddie] Okay. (chuckling)
10:28
- [Eddie] Talk fast. (chuckling)
10:29
- Says good morning.
10:30
Sweet Paula from this Oklahoma Girl's Kitchen.
10:33
I would love to say thank you
10:34
for all the wonderful easy recipes
10:36
on your quarantine cooking.
10:38
I've tried some and they are delicious.
10:40
Just wanted to tell you,
10:41
you have been a true inspiration to me through the rough...
10:45
Through rough...
10:47
Out.
10:50
You have been a true inspiration to me
10:52
throughout my years of cooking.
10:56
Sorry. I think I had a brain fart there for a minute.
10:58
(chuckling)
10:59
You have always said and made us believe
11:03
in following our dreams in our heart.
11:05
Believing in that, I decided to take old family recipes
11:10
and bring life to them.
11:12
They were my sweet mamas, grandmamas
11:14
and other family members that also have passed,
11:17
and many of them mine.
11:19
But they are great Southern dishes.
11:22
It has made my heart beyond happy
11:25
to have brought out the recipe cards
11:28
and now preparing them on the Oklahoma Girl's Kitchen,
11:33
your YouTube episodes.
11:36
I'm gonna check you out.
11:39
So much fun to share them with others
11:41
and knowing they will love them too.
11:43
You know, it makes me happy
11:45
and proud of each of these good Southern cooks
11:48
that taught me all I know.
11:50
We're Alabama Southern cooks.
11:52
Laugh out loud.
11:54
One recipe I'm sharing with you, is one of my mamas
11:59
that she always served, and this is...
12:02
And Shirley served it with our homemade whipping cream.
12:06
So, I am.
12:07
I'm gonna make this on one of the cooking shows.
12:11
And she...
12:12
And it's your mother's strawberry bread.
12:19
And it sounds delicious Miss. Julia's strawberry bread.
12:24
And so I'm gonna hang on to this
12:28
and we're gonna do it on a show
12:32
because I like strawberries and I like bread.
12:36
(chuckling)
12:37
And I like you.
12:38
(laughing)
12:39
So loving best dishes.
12:41
Thank y'all for your sweet words of encouragement.
12:45
Sometimes you think, well, I'll just sit down and cry.
12:50
Don't do that.
12:51
Stand up and laugh.
12:53
(laughing)
12:55
Loving best dishes.
