today y'all I'm gonna share with you an
0:03
easiest pie recipe but it has been so
0:10
popular at the lady in Sons I've been
0:13
serving this sandwich I can't remember
0:15
if I actually served it out when I was
0:18
in the Best Western or not Theresa I
0:20
think I may have served it that far back
0:23
but anyway it's delicious and it stayed
0:26
on the menu well at least 25 years now
0:30
but I I remember so I feel like it's got
0:35
to be a little good for you and the
0:39
recipe that I'm gonna share with y'all
0:40
today is asparagus sandwich a lot of
0:45
little ladies would come in and order
0:47
this sandwich and they all said the same
0:51
thing I would never think about putting
0:54
bread and asparagus together but it
0:59
works so our asparagus has been blanched
1:04
off Teresa the kitchen maid and I look
1:09
at yes you did it
1:10
Teresa you blanched it off and the
1:16
dressing that we use on this salad is
1:20
Thousand Island dressing so I'm gonna
1:24
just mix all this together and I'll give
1:29
you all my measurements because I don't
1:32
measure this either you know I just make
1:36
it to the to my eye but let's see the
1:42
Thousand Island dressing and this is
1:46
gonna make a bunch you don't need to
1:48
make this much fun if you go have an
1:50
asparagus sandwich but it costs a cup
1:52
and a half of mayonnaise one Baldy
1:56
finely diced a cup of ketchup 1/4 of a
2:02
cup of dill relish
2:04
and I put a little lemon pepper in it
2:07
and salt and pepper to taste so it's
2:11
like really simple all right so in my
2:15
dough my mayonnaise and then goes my
2:25
balled egg and in goes my drained relish
2:33
you want to make sure you drain that
2:36
good so you're dressing won't be watery
2:41
and a little lemon pepper and a little
2:50
salt and a little pepper and that's it
2:56
Thousand Island is very very easy to
2:59
make and it's never been one of my
3:04
favorite salad dressings
3:07
unless it's homemade and then I like it
3:11
because I know that I've used a premium
3:14
mayonnaise in it and just makes a
3:21
difference so that's getting nice and
3:27
that's kind of a shrimp color what you
3:29
say Eddie yeah
3:34
and it's delicious
3:37
also we got that down easy easy
3:43
I'm gonna put a little bit more salty
3:46
and a little bit more pepper and there
3:53
again whatever you like if you like
3:54
sweet pickles then use a sweet relish
3:59
alright I'm gonna take my weather at the
4:06
restaurant I use pumpernickel but I
4:08
think actually the bread that we use is
4:12
the marbled so sometimes just plain
4:16
pumpernickel is hard to find but I'm
4:19
happy as a clam oh my goodness this
4:23
bread is so fresh Theresa so this is
4:28
what I'm gonna do I'm gonna throw my
4:34
asparagus
4:35
oh my grill
4:42
won't cut that up just a little bit Oh
4:44
like I said this has been blanched so
4:48
now I'm just gonna you know heat that up
4:52
I'm gonna take my first I'm gonna take a
4:59
knife a butter knife and I'm gonna
5:03
butter my pumpernickel because we're
5:09
gonna put this on our griddle pan love
5:18
this bread Teresa where in the world did
5:22
you
5:23
that's a baking bread it oh my gosh it
5:29
looks fabulous it's going to fabulous
5:33
all right
5:41
that piece of bread down and then I'm
5:45
gonna come over here and I'm gonna put
5:48
my Thousand Island dressing and I'm a
5:58
condiment girl yo I like I like my
6:02
condiments so as soon as these get hot
6:07
I'm gonna transfer that over to my bread
6:12
and we use and I see which is we used a
6:18
sliced purple onion but to me excuse me
6:31
I am i allergic something my nose is
6:34
running everybody's got allergies Domon
6:39
other Jasmine's really strong right now
6:41
Oh God the Jasmine we need to run out
6:44
there Eddie and take a picture of the
6:46
jasmine and let everybody see how much
6:50
is out there and I think it's killing me
6:53
but it smells so good
6:55
all right there's our on you - all right
7:11
Oh Thank You Teresa
7:16
and it all right now we're gonna put
7:23
peppermint peppermint we'll put some
7:28
peppermint ice cream on it
7:30
you know I have been eating peppermint
7:33
ice cream that Publix puts out every
7:36
Christmas they put out some extra so I
7:40
just kind of stopped up I've been eating
7:42
that peppermint ice cream every night oh
7:46
that's what's in your diffuser right no
7:48
just some peppermint Oh over here is
7:51
might be making your nose run too you
7:53
know it could be I might to stop and go
7:56
get a Kleenex come on
8:00
I had this griddle pan turned down low
8:07
it's having to eat back up
8:17
just put a little butter right there so
8:22
that asparagus I'll have something to
8:24
sizzle in look what she did
8:33
she brought she brought me a Kleenex
8:36
thank you
8:38
I think temp don't like this mmm
8:44
all right so let me give my hands a wash
8:48
since I've had them up to my nose
9:00
all righty so let's see our butter
9:02
melting we need to check our bread all
9:08
right I think these are ready to go on
9:10
there now and we're just gonna get back
9:16
up back you're not escaping either you
9:20
onion perfect pepper jack cheese not our
9:40
peppermint ice cream and now I'm taking
9:46
our other piece of buttered bread and
9:50
I'm go down an aisle on that side how's
9:54
that dressing y'all it helps the seeing
9:58
what you actually stick together that's
10:02
that that it just make sure it matches
10:08
look at that now that sandwich will
10:12
actually be two people they all heard me
10:29
talk about it for years but um I just
10:32
loved it this was in her restaurant at
10:34
Riverbend and it's dated 1945 - this was
10:39
made two years before I was born so it's
10:43
74 years old at least
10:45
and I love it it's the finest spatula
10:49
ever all right here we go look at that
11:03
that reminds me of a Dagwood sandwich
11:06
y'all remember Dagwood sandwich it was a
11:12
comic strip Teresa and he would go in
11:15
the kitchen and make him a Dagwood
11:17
sandwich and it would be this hand he
11:22
had everything he could find in his
11:24
refrigerator in his Dagwood sandwich so
11:29
we just started calling a sandwich with
11:34
a lot of stuff a David decklid sandwich
11:36
and you know he could he could add
11:39
figures in his head you go didn't you
11:42
didn't to $695 and they even made a TV
11:50
show called Deadwood and it was probably
11:57
in the 50s but I remember what your dad
12:00
would he can go no blondie the comic
12:05
strip bonding with Deborah yes yes it
12:08
was blondie and dagwood but I can't
12:12
remember if the TV show was blondie or
12:14
dagwon
12:15
you know it's both laughing okay
12:25
mmm
12:26
[Music]
12:29
this just looks wonderful and I finally
12:33
got my grill back to being hot you know
12:44
like I said that Thousand Island
12:46
dressing kiddos thats what holds this
12:49
sandwich together so your pants paradis
12:52
doesn't run away I think this is ready
12:57
y'all but if you don't try this sandwich
13:05
you'll see why it's always been so
13:08
popular at the restaurant and maybe it's
13:17
almost like a diet sandwich you know
13:20
cause it's vegetables melted and I'm
13:32
swallowing hard I know why I love this
13:41
out now you never think about it out of
13:47
this world
13:48
there's crisp onions by loving best
