hey friends welcome to this week's
0:02
podcast I'm here with my son Bobby's
0:05
best friend in the whole wide world
0:07
Bobby along with all the rest of his
0:10
family we think Sam hung the moon this
0:14
is coach Sam Carter young he is a coach
0:17
for scared Savannah College of Art and
0:19
Design as well
0:20
and when did you and Bobby meet Sam we
0:23
first meet we met back in 2002 in August
0:28
of 2002 so it's been 14 years 40 years
0:32
we've been like yes like just together
0:38
yes ma'am and now Bobby he he first met
0:43
you in the gym did me well he first met
0:46
me what happened was you had an employee
0:48
who worked for you and Bobby would see
0:50
this young man who I coached in high
0:52
school I trained it he would see him
0:53
come in his name was Terrell and he was
0:55
like man what are you doing what are you
0:59
doing what are you doing he's like why I
1:01
work out I get coached by this guy Sam
1:03
they say you need me so obviously we're
1:05
telling him I want to meet him so after
1:07
Sunday service at the church on Sunday I
1:09
went in your restaurant when your own
1:10
karma Street we're not doing the old one
1:14
if I was like that's what I want right
1:19
so after that Bobby Knight ever since
1:23
that day we've been together yes I told
1:27
him to be at the gym the next day and he
1:30
came in the next day and I called it
1:32
when we he came in 6 o'clock after work
1:34
and I called our chicken and beans
1:36
because he smelled like to work out late
1:42
that's half a chicken and beans rested
1:46
so that was the start of a wonderful
1:49
friendship yes ma'am yes ma'am and Bobby
1:52
I tell you what Sam if I call Bobby and
1:55
said Bobby I am having open heart
1:58
surgery at 4 o'clock this afternoon he
2:01
would say well mom I'm meeting Sam at
2:04
4:00 so I will see you after the surgery
2:11
Bobby will not miss and I love him to
2:15
ordinance training you know when we get
2:17
together it is an event and people come
2:20
around and we actually we go into the
2:21
gym now we have to ask the gym owner
2:23
turn the music up because people want to
2:25
listen to what we have to say against
2:34
the machine so we turn it up live and we
2:36
can talk and we lift now it's working
2:38
out we get our lifting but we get a lot
2:40
of talk so we talk about fitness food he
2:44
gives a good recipe we talk about
2:45
finances give me good ideas I have
2:55
kidded for years that families Bobby
2:59
psychologist or psychiatrist you look at
3:03
it but you've been a rock for Bobby a
3:06
steady rocking in Bobby's life and I so
3:09
appreciate it so tell me if somebody
3:13
wants to start watching their weight and
3:18
maybe doing exercise how do you
3:20
recommend they start somebody like me
3:22
okay the most important thing the first
3:24
thing and this with people that you know
3:26
even before when I talked to Bobby about
3:28
goals the same before those that comes
3:31
before that there's something more
3:32
valuable than money even more value for
3:35
money not oxygen and there's something
3:37
more valuable money that we all pass on
3:39
that I get Bobby from 14 years ago time
3:41
the thing that gets people messed up and
3:45
working out and taking care of
3:46
themselves this time because we're busy
3:47
we're busy taking care of family taking
3:50
care of kids we're visiting everybody
3:51
else so you have to accept but yourself
3:54
so what I asked Bobby that's why when we
3:56
commit a time we're gonna go and every
3:58
day we commit a time tomorrow this is
4:00
our time well you have told him that
4:02
lesson well if you have the time then we
4:07
can it doesn't matter I workouts have
4:09
changed I don't
4:10
at one point Bobby wanted to be this
4:11
strong big benchpress guy then you want
4:14
I want to be this I want to be that all
4:17
that we can the goals can change but the
4:18
time has to stay consistent so most
4:21
important thing is look at your schedule
4:22
look at time and
4:24
you commit this is the reason why I can
4:26
do it at this time do you think people
4:28
can achieve this at home yes ma'am yes
4:31
ma'am
4:31
in their own Fitness is free you can do
4:34
it at home you just listen and you can
4:35
do it at home the biggest thing is about
4:37
there's a couple of reasons to e reasons
4:39
why people don't stay with workout
4:40
program they don't stick with the one
4:42
people who don't do them at all because
4:45
the pain of not doing it is not great
4:47
enough the reason why you don't do it is
4:50
because you have not the paint it's easy
4:52
to sit on the couch then for your doctor
4:55
to say hey if you don't do this you're
4:57
not gonna be here if you don't do this
4:58
and this gonna have we got amputees so
5:00
the pain of not doing it then I was
5:01
great enough you have to experience a
5:03
pain so what pains you so for instance
5:05
if you're healthy you're fine because to
5:07
do that do is you have to figure out
5:12
something to motivate you to get you up
5:14
and so a lot of time that's a partner
5:16
bobbi and I are we connect because
5:18
there's somebody there waiting for you
5:19
and so we get there and so we figure
5:22
those things out there number two
5:23
reasons why people don't stick to work
5:25
on exercise we kind of do it is that no
5:27
measurables she reason why Bobby does
5:30
successful he's gonna hold it for 14
5:31
years I've been doing it regularly it's
5:33
because people just going to work out
5:34
and they just exercise but what we teach
5:36
is training you got to have a measure
5:37
but you got to figure out like and you
5:40
say I want to get in shape if you want
5:54
to if you want you can do one pushup all
5:56
right getting in shape means you can do
5:58
10 push-ups and then you can do 20 or
6:00
you can do one squat the best Spinks is
6:02
you can do 20 squats or hundred squats
6:04
that's the best we got we got to take a
6:10
break
6:17
the space that you live in really

7:10
one eight hundred six five nine 3300
7:15
that's one eight hundred six five nine
7:18
3300 so there's another part that you
7:25
played in Bobby's life besides exercise
7:27
and you introduced Bobby in Klaudia is
7:32
why yes ma'am yes Bobby was working out
7:36
and not many times you know I look at
7:38
Bobby we're talking with Jimmy again
7:40
we're working in one day he was working
7:42
he kept me in the strike he kept looking
7:43
over the tray table hoping you focus so
8:06
I invited Claudia Tawergha she had no
8:09
idea oh you couldn't work out what else
8:11
the shoes she thought like that yeah I
8:14
was like what I can't lift the way
8:15
through the Asians I know I can't work I
8:17
think I need you to work out with us
8:32
I'm telling you what you brought a
8:34
wonderful girl into our family and our
8:37
life Sam by introducing those two I love
8:40
clouds so much she's a hot little real
8:47
something well listen I want you to show
8:56
us some things that we can do at home
8:58
yes I've seen you do things with like a
9:00
chair something like that yes ma'am we
9:02
don't like for Sam to show us just some
9:06
things girls My yes well or me and my
9:09
that we can do at home okay okay what
9:13
were you saying oh I'm ready to try all
9:16
right now you know Sam that I have all
9:19
torn Janice yes ma'am yes we both need
9:22
yes yes I'm oblong yes all right but I
9:25
want you to show me so the first one is
9:27
simple simple okay now if you have
9:29
torment assist you don't have to go as
9:31
far but I'm use your glasses all right
9:33
thank you
9:34
all right so the first one is just a
9:36
regular squat feet shoulder-width apart
9:37
yes you get the best bang for your buck
9:40
not working the biggest and strongest
9:42
muscles where's my fuel goes like on
9:45
yours yeah that may be the biggest and
9:47
strongest but so what you want to do is
9:53
you hand feature over the blunt I'm
9:56
gonna sit down on your chair okay it
10:02
hurts my knee now if it hurts your knees
10:05
then don't sit on the way down follow me
10:07
sit down and I stand up that's it do
10:09
what you can do do what you can do the
10:12
decibel does that long if you'll be
10:14
quiet for one second you can hear yeah
10:24
all right so what you want to do is you
10:27
limit but as long as you doing something
10:29
look something's better all right so
10:31
that's the legs that's the legs okay now
10:33
now we can do
10:34
the chess alright so now you take your
10:37
chair I'm right here then good good so I
10:41
can see my feet underneath you all right
10:44
okay bend at the waist and Samak up
10:47
that's it and that waist like your feet
10:49
are apart right right so with one being
10:51
at the waist stand back up that's your
10:53
chest shoulders and your triceps your
10:55
chest shoulders and trust me right back
10:57
I got some show turn it back good now we
11:03
sit down and you can have you can have a
11:05
band or anything your hand but this
11:07
works just as good hands on the front
11:09
and fall to the back hands on a fresh
11:11
squeeze your back squeeze your back
11:14
squeeze squeeze squeeze now see that
11:18
your your legs your chest your back now
11:21
that's through your stomach hands here
11:24
okay Oh opposite opposite - oh you have
11:32
to touch you just do anything anything
11:34
is better than nothing
11:35
anything you do sets the 20 of these 20
11:39
squats okay 20 push 20 arm pulls 20 abs
11:43
you do three Rosen at 20 22 23 times you
11:46
do that every day all right for the rest
11:49
of your life you did and you will gotta
11:51
keep you healthy enough you can fit and
11:53
grab and jump you do what you can do
11:55
everybody you know you look at somebody
11:57
else where they hinder that's fine but
11:58
what you can do but you measure yourself
11:59
against you and you get better so if you
12:01
do in shape those not in the circus
12:03
arbitrary out there but in shape you can
12:05
do 10 now you work to do 11 and then you
12:08
work to do 12 stone that works the
12:11
stomach you want to get you don't work
12:13
the stuff how do you get rid of a tire
12:15
right push away push away push away from
12:18
the tapers it away put it in front of
12:24
you place it away okay
12:26
whole grains fruits and vegetables take
12:27
care yourself drink I know no water and
12:33
you know I'm not crazy about water but I
12:36
do love a diet soda
12:39
well busy you go do you eventually get a
12:43
taste for water I know Bobby drinks a
12:45
gallon
12:46
exactly because one of the things is
12:48
what water does so much stuff for you
12:49
right hydration right you see all the
12:51
energy and all that but you need to get
12:53
the water he has two most important
12:54
people water and take your rest and
12:56
sleep gonna be doing this when yeah yes
13:01
yes yes yes I hope this Sam's been some
13:13
help to y'all know I ain't going to the
13:17
gym going to the gym we're scared of Sam
13:21
all the time so I hope it's been a help
13:24
do y'all I'm really gonna try to do this
13:27
and I hope you will too I love you so
13:30
see y'all next week the space that you
13:34
live in really affects the way you feel
13:36
so my first recommendation is start by
