here in Savannah on the weekends we just
0:12
love being lazy we like sleeping late
0:15
and then getting up to a scrumptious
0:17
sinful brunch and today I'm going to be
0:20
working with different types of
0:22
sweetening instead of our normal syrup
0:25
we are going to change too honey and I
0:28
went on a field trip to find out how
0:30
these bees actually make the honey and
0:32
it was so fascinating so later on today
0:36
I'm going to be showing you some great
0:38
dishes introducing that fabulous
0:41
sweetener honey my buddy ray at juicy
0:46
honey farm is the king of all beekeepers
0:49
he took me out to show me where all his
0:51
yummy honey comes from well let's take a
0:55
look and I have to tell you I am a
0:57
little scared all right but I'm going to
0:59
what we do is we put a little smoke in
1:01
the hive bees communicate with
1:04
pheromones with odors am I submitting a
1:07
scared odor right now well I would say
1:10
don't breathe heavily in the hive
1:11
breathe slowly and what I do when I come
1:15
in and present a little smoke on the top
1:17
of the hive that confuses them it breaks
1:20
their lines of communication I would be
1:22
ever so grateful if you would do that
1:23
for me so just open this up see how they
1:27
calm down yeah went back down in there
1:29
except for this one around my face what
1:32
kind of honey is this the taste the
1:34
flavor the honey is dependent on the
1:36
flower that it comes from for that if
1:38
you take buckwheat honey that's very
1:41
strong clover honey is very light the
1:45
flavor tends to be stronger as the
1:47
season goes on a lot like maple syrup
1:49
with maple syrup the first flow is the
1:52
lightest alas flows the heaviest and the
1:54
strongest and flavor well tell me when
1:57
you buy honey that has the beeswax in it
2:00
yes now are you to eat that or do you
2:02
chew it and get out the flavor is it
2:04
just there to keep the flavor going what
2:07
you can eat the whole thing the whole
2:09
thing is edible you can chunk this up
2:11
and barbecue with it
2:13
you can put it on a pork loin for the
2:14
last few minutes of the baking cycle I
2:16
think people do roast peaches with it
2:19
and desserts you can put a slice on a
2:21
piece of hot apple pie that sounds great
2:25
all right let's head back get some honey
2:28
cuz I'm gonna start cooking
