well hey friends welcome to what's
0:02
cooking with Paula Dean today uh we've
0:05
got a lot cooking don't we Bobby we do
0:08
I'll tell y'all what uh Bobby and I went
0:12
to evine and if you don't know what
0:15
evine is it's the it's the channel that
0:18
uh I display my products and offer them
0:23
out there to everybody it's like Home
0:26
Shopping Network MH and it's located in
0:29
Minneapolis Minnesota we got up there
0:31
right off the bat it was like ice cold I
0:34
didn't even bring a sweater had to go
0:36
into uh the
0:39
airport mall like and buy me a coat
0:42
before I could even leave but anyway our
0:45
visit good thinking to not check the
0:47
weather before you go up to the border
0:49
of Canada what was I thinking I wasn't
0:51
thinking but we had the most incredible
0:54
time at evine and it was Bobby's first
0:57
trip and Bobby I was so happy it was fun
1:00
the people are really nice the people
1:02
that run the network and it's it's it's
1:04
it's kind of a uh it's kind of a
1:06
laidback organization but they're uh but
1:09
they're serious and they know what
1:10
they're doing it was I had a good time
1:12
yeah I I love working with the folks
1:15
there they're really good but what was
1:17
so exciting to me was I was introducing
1:21
my first small appliance ever and you
1:25
sold out and we sold out congratulations
1:29
to you thank you you well I tell you
1:31
what it helped so much you being there
1:33
Bobby cuz like Sunday Bobby and I had 6
1:36
hours of live TV you know just standing
1:39
in front of the camera for six hours
1:42
talking about this air fryer and uh like
1:46
I said son I don't know if I could have
1:48
made it without you well I'm glad I was
1:49
able to go support you cuz I was tired
1:51
just thinking about it but it was the
1:54
excitement overrode the tiredness this
1:59
this uh a air fryer y'all it just gives
2:01
you the ability to cut out a lot of
2:06
fats and uh of course you can do that at
2:09
home you don't have to have an air fryer
2:11
to do it uh you you can do it in your
2:13
oven right uh the air fryer is just more
2:17
compact less clean up you know it's just
2:19
really convenient and too I have found
2:22
that everything I've cooked in it it's
2:24
so moist it's crispy on the outside yeah
2:27
but moist on the inside which a chicken
2:29
breast
2:30
I've just found one I super dry super
2:33
dry super super dry but yeah it works
2:36
great I like being in here here's the
2:38
thing for me um I like to cook at home a
2:41
lot and really it's because I like to be
2:45
in control of everything that's in and
2:47
on my food yeah do you know what I mean
2:50
yes I know exactly what including how
2:52
much oil or grease or fat so um the
2:55
little oil spritzer thing is nice
2:57
because the the ones they sell in the
2:59
store can have some things in it that
3:01
you don't necessarily want to spray on
3:02
your food and um and it's just the oil
3:06
you know that but that's the way I've
3:07
always done it I've always used olive
3:08
oil and and a paintbrush do you know
3:10
what I mean to like paint my chicken or
3:11
to paint my fish or whatever a little
3:13
bit of salt and pepper but it's so scary
3:16
Bobby you go to the grocery store and
3:18
I'll pick up items and it's got so many
3:21
ingredients listed things that I don't
3:23
I've never heard of yeah it's SC I said
3:26
this is scary yeah what is all that
3:29
stuff that's right so that's why we
3:32
should all be eating more Whole Foods
3:35
and stuff that just grows right out of
3:36
the ground I mean and how about organic
3:39
do you lean if you have an option think
3:43
yeah I I do I do most of the time I do
3:46
well I've read that there's some things
3:48
that we should buy organic like an apple
3:51
the deal def the deal is this what you
3:54
don't see happening to your food is all
3:57
the chemicals that are sprayed on it and
4:01
um you know just like we were talking
4:02
about the spray cans of the oil and
4:03
stuff you you there are things that you
4:05
don't want that you can't see and uh
4:07
with organic products they're just
4:09
they're grown more naturally and they
4:10
don't use all those terrible chemicals
4:12
on them and stuff so I feel better about
4:13
and that also is the reason why I have a
4:15
great Garden at my house yeah you know
4:17
that's why I have a that's why I have a
4:19
lemon tree and a grapefruit tree and
4:21
tomato plants cuz I like to grow it all
4:24
as fresh as I can oh Bobby and uh our uh
4:28
our peach tree is loaded this year well
4:32
I'll be by well you better hurry honey
4:34
cuz let me tell you something I cuz the
4:37
squirrels are all over the squirrels I
4:39
walked out the other day and there was
4:40
probably
4:41
12 uh large squirrels no there was like
4:46
12 uh peaches with one bite out of them
4:50
cuz they're not ripe yet so the
4:52
squirrels are picking them biting them
4:54
and spitting them out saying I'll be
4:55
back yeah yeah so anyhow good trip to
4:58
Minneapolis it was it was
5:01
congratulations won be back with the air
5:02
fryer until like a August August but the
5:06
good news is the word well have traveled
5:07
because the people that I think you sold
5:09
like 6,000 of those while you were there
5:11
which is great and that this is a this
5:14
is I believe that it's a product that
5:16
nobody's going to return nobody's going
5:18
to not like it I can't imagine why
5:20
having used it myself and knowing what
5:22
it's capable of I can't imagine it is
5:24
just I just love it so speaking of
5:27
things that's not simple
5:31
I'm going to leave you hanging we going
5:32
to take a break things that are not
5:36
simple algebra the space that you live
5:40
in really affects the way you feel so my
5:43
first recommendation is start by
5:46

6:34
659
6:35
3300 that's 1800 659
6:40
3300 are you playing a game or are we
6:43
doing a podcast I don't understand
6:44
what's happening
6:45
both
6:47
both so hey we're back and I left Bobby
6:51
hanging with uh talking about something
6:53
that wasn't so simple you
6:56
know the G our game padin recipe
7:00
Quest well we have uh revamped it
7:04
because we heard from y'all uh on things
7:07
that you might like to see a little
7:09
different so we listen to every one of
7:11
y'all and we've made those changes and
7:13
we've relaunched it and I'm
7:17
stuck I'm stuck on a level that I can't
7:19
get off of it is so much fun Bobby
7:23
you're being beaten by yourself I'm
7:25
being beaten by me and you get to see
7:27
your smiling face every time
7:30
oh oh congratss I did it I did it I got
7:33
through that level U my favorite thing
7:36
is that all I see is ham and butter and
7:39
yes it's about recipes when you get to a
7:42
certain level you can get that recipe
7:44
okay and then you can become a
7:47
professional yeah and then you can
7:49
become a professional chef chef yes a
7:53
restaurant tour it's just so much
7:57
fun I just love it I but so anyway I see
8:00
how fun is you're not putting it down I
8:04
have to put it down cuz you get like
8:06
addicted to it trying to get that next
8:09
recipe it's a fun game yeah so Bobby
8:12
called me uh last night y'all and told
8:16
me something that I got so excited about
8:20
and he's probably going to be
8:21
embarrassed and probably doesn't want me
8:23
talking about it but he was invited to
8:26
read for a movie A Part in a movie mhm
8:30
well mama is over the moon so Bobby came
8:35
in here when was it yesterday and you
8:39
you read the part read some lines here
8:42
with Phil here in the
8:43
studio and and sent them in Phil and and
8:47
what a huge help Phil was to to do that
8:50
for me what's the part uh it is a well
8:54
first of all I don't have the part so
8:56
I'm I'm talking about a movie that you
8:59
don't have it yet that I'm not
9:00
necessarily involved in but but
9:02
something unusual happened they called
9:05
you right after they watched it and said
9:08
you might get the part you might get the
9:10
part which that's promising yeah so it's
9:13
fun either either way doesn't matter
9:15
whether I get it or not no somebody
9:17
asked me to read lines for a mov so I
9:19
got to find out here's what I got to do
9:20
I got to find out how difficult acting
9:23
is because it just being in front of a
9:26
camera doesn't mean that you can act so
9:28
I have a new found respect when you're
9:30
reading somebody else's words and you're
9:32
trying to Auto uh uh right away you
9:36
realize that you don't know how you
9:38
would say something that's written in
9:40
somebody else's words so that's right
9:43
anyhow you found respect mad respect for
9:45
actors but uh the the movie is
9:50
um about Benjamin Franklin uhhuh it's a
9:54
G-rated movie so it'll be for families
9:56
and it should be a lot of it sounds like
9:58
it's going to be a lot it's something
9:59
that that sounds fun to me no matter
10:02
what happens but they're going to shoot
10:03
it in Savannah and is great y'all
10:06
they're going to shoot what is that
10:08
they're shooting it here in Savannah
10:09
yeah well they shoot lot we've got I
10:10
know it we've got a lot of films right
10:13
now being shot in Savannah in there like
10:16
three movies is six or seven in
10:18
production y'all here in Savannah so
10:21
yeah there's a lot of lot of things
10:22
going on in the movie World here people
10:25
think that movies and television shows
10:27
are shot in Hollywood and just just in
10:29
New York and and that's completely not
10:32
true they shoot locations all the time
10:33
Savannah gets a lot of movie shot here
10:36
you remember um there was a movie called
10:38
1969 that was shot here back in the late
10:41
80s kefir Southerland was in it and
10:44
Robert Downey Jr and um I recently saw
10:48
that and it was so wild to see Savannah
10:49
from back then uhhuh uh and you remember
10:52
of course midnight and the Garden of
10:54
Good evil was shot here yes I thought
10:55
that showed Savannah off so beautifully
10:58
well there's a couple different reasons
10:59
why they film here number one it's
11:01
gorgeous I think there's some kind of
11:03
tax break of course yeah too so that
11:06
that uh determines it's inexpensive to
11:08
do Force Gump was shot here yeah a lot
11:11
of it and in Buford and in the low
11:12
country and uh God late I mean when you
11:16
think about it there's a lot the Dwayne
11:18
Johnson The Rock guy is here now and
11:20
Zack Efron has Zack Efron shot two
11:23
movies in this city in the past just
11:24
couple years yeah and Robert dairo was
11:26
in one of them um but you know such a
11:30
good thing for the economy because of
11:32
course it brings uh after the movie
11:35
comes out and people see it of course it
11:36
brings people to tourism comes to
11:38
Savannah but while they're here filming
11:40
you know that whole big crew they're
11:41
they're eating out they're they're
11:43
buying gas at our gas stations they're
11:45
staying in the hotel so what a so how
11:46
great it is for the economy it is it's
11:48
great for the economy there are um
11:51
screen gyms is up in uh Wilmington North
11:54
Carolina so people don't know but the
11:56
east coast in this part of the country
11:57
has got up there's a lot of film in that
11:59
goes on here Eastbound and Down was shot
12:02
right up on rille beach in North
12:04
Carolina you know big big time stuff
12:06
that people are watching and they don't
12:07
know that it's not in Hollywood right so
12:09
but anyhow even if uh even if things
12:13
don't work out with the movie how
12:14
exciting is that they called me I know
12:18
just to be asked and having done the
12:20
auditions yesterday and just you know we
12:23
taped them and and edited them real fast
12:25
and sent them in and then to actually
12:27
have somebody contact me last night yeah
12:30
um and say hey you know what we like
12:33
what you look like and you sound good
12:34
maybe you'll get the part and I think
12:36
that often that doesn't happen so even
12:39
to get a call back is pretty encouraging
12:41
that that that's just great you know
12:44
I've only done one movie in my lifetime
12:46
and when Cameron Crowe called and asked
12:49
me if I would be in Elizabeth Town he
12:51
didn't even ask me to read for it he
12:54
said I said Cameron do you know I'm not
12:57
an actress
12:59
and he saidwell Paulie you're probably
13:01
closer than you think uh he he said all
13:04
I want you to do is you just be
13:07
yourself uh but we're just going to call
13:09
you a't do MH and I said okay I'll do
13:12
that but it was a wonderful experience
13:15
being on um location of a really high
13:20
budget movie uh it it was it was just
13:23
wonderful and now I want to do a movie
13:26
again but you know what kind of movie so
13:29
does everybody yeah you know what kind
13:31
of movie I want to do now a suspense
13:34
murder mystery no all those I do love a
13:38
horor no I don't want to do a horror a
13:40
comedy I a dramedy well let me tell you
13:43
what I want a romantic
13:47
comedy and you're the love
13:50
interest no yes no starring Michael
13:55
no I want to be in an animated movie I
14:00
want to be the voice oh you'd be great I
14:03
want to be like a southern Lobster or
14:06
something like that too funny you know
14:07
what people people that have you've got
14:09
such a distinct voice it's funny that
14:11
you've not done that already that
14:13
somebody hadn't reached out to you and
14:14
asked you to do it I because when you
14:15
watch the animated films and they're
14:17
real popular you know they are super
14:21
popular um you the the characters are
14:24
all people that have really recognizable
14:27
voices you know and shoot in fact uh I
14:31
guess some people don't know but I feel
14:32
like it's common knowledge that Gilbert
14:34
godfried is the afflac duck you know but
14:37
you know you know what Bobby in animated
14:40
movies we we we used to never know who
14:44
those voices were that's right but now
14:47
these roles for these voices major
14:49
actors it's major actors and actresses
14:53
yes they know what they're doing I don't
14:55
I don't stand a shot you know it it's
14:57
like commercials our Uncle Bob B my
15:00
Uncle Bob was u a a model handsome man
15:04
handsome handsome and he was a model in
15:07
New York and um he was in the
15:10
commercials where you didn't speak and
15:13
then they just did their smoking
15:15
cigarettes and had your arm around a a
15:17
good-looking young lady I think he did
15:18
do uh several cigarette commercials I
15:22
know he did but um we're talking about a
15:24
long time ago long time ago and then
15:27
they started talking commercial
15:29
and of course he was from the south and
15:31
they said you know he have to work on
15:33
his accent but then uh actors and
15:38
actresses saw that there was a lot a lot
15:41
of money in commercials y so then they
15:45
started nabbing that too MH yeah so and
15:48
people are so well trained now that they
15:50
can go in and out of accents they know
15:52
how to do accents you don't have to have
15:54
you don't have to have a genuinely
15:56
Southern person anymore cuz they'll put
15:57
a fake Southern person what you can tell
16:00
a fake Southern person well you can not
16:03
everybody and this is the only accent I
16:05
can do I can't I've tried to do the
16:07
British you know where it don't work I
16:09
can't do it don't work come for SP no no
16:15
it doesn't work does it no not at all
16:18
yeah there's a lot of uh there's a lot
16:20
of actors that are that are focusing on
16:23
Voice work animated stuff and Voice work
16:25
commercials you know Mike Row does do
16:27
you know who Mike Row is the dirty job
16:29
guy yeah he does like and James Earl
16:32
Jones I mean
16:34
documentaries Morgan Freeman you know I
16:37
mean if if God is in a commercial or if
16:40
you know whatever then it's generally
16:41
Morgan but Mike Row does a lot and um
16:45
Donald Sutherland who was a very
16:47
accomplished actor hadn't done a movie
16:49
in in ages he just does Voice work the
16:52
daddy the daddy ke for southerland's
16:54
daddy he's the voice of delta in their
16:56
commercials and you know why do movies
16:59
or tele show you it's great you don't
17:01
have to worry about how you look walk in
17:03
in your pajamas uhhuh yeah I want some
17:06
of that
17:08
well tell them so if there's any
17:10
Hollywood producers out there listening
17:13
oh I need to talk to Strat there aren't
17:15
any well you never know Stratton uh
17:18
stratt could probably help you yeah I
17:20
forgot to tell Stratton the other day
17:22
you should do some Voice work Stratton
17:24
uh is a savannah boy but he was a big
17:26
Hollywood producer and guess he still is
17:29
he's still a mover and Shaker in that
17:31
world still a mover and well respected
17:34
guy I need to tell Strat you should tell
17:36
Strat I'll call and uh tell Stratton
17:40
that I want to be a voice in a movie and
17:42
see if he can help me you should do it
17:44
so I'll let y'all know next week how I
17:46
came out with that how about
17:48
that so Son thank you for being here
