well hey friends welcome to what's
0:02
cooking with Paula Dean and I am so
0:05
happy to announce that uh my new
0:08
collection is come out with my pots my
0:10
pans my dishes and so many things that
0:15
uh accessorize your your collection and
0:19
it's called the river band collection
0:23
and y'all have heard me talk about River
0:25
Band and what an influence it played in
0:27
my life uh growing up I I slept in a
0:32
chest of
0:33
drawers uh when I came home from the
0:35
hospital and I believe it was at Riv a
0:38
Bend uh that this took place the family
0:41
lived in my grandmother and
0:43
grandfather's family business which was
0:47
the hotel the restaurant the skating
0:48
rink the swimming pool and uh it was
0:52
like the big place in Alin to come to uh
0:57
I think we had the only swimming pool in
1:00
Al at the time so I made so many friends
1:05
during the summer every weekend all the
1:07
church buses would come out and the kids
1:10
would unload from that bus and I would
1:13
be standing right there uh to hug them
1:17
and tell them to come on let's get to
1:19
swimming uh I had lots and lots of playm
1:22
mates every weekend and you know it's
1:26
it's just funny um I spent the first
1:29
first 10 years of my life at
1:32
riverband and and those are your very
1:36
years that that uh you're being molded I
1:40
think into the person that you're going
1:42
to become and uh when Michael and I was
1:47
building the house that we live in now
1:50
uh Gordon was down we were shooting my
1:52
show Gordon Elliott who's my
1:54
producer uh had flown down we were
1:57
shooting best dishes
2:00
and I said Gordon come on over to the
2:03
house with me I want to show you the
2:05
progress that's happened since you last
2:08
saw it and so we walked the whole
2:11
property and he said
2:14
Paula do you realize what you've done
2:17
here and I said no no what have I done
2:22
he said you have
2:23
recreated River Band in your home in
2:28
this property right here and I looked at
2:30
him and I said Gordon my goodness I have
2:36
subconsciously done just that not giving
2:40
it any thought I have reproduced River
2:44
bin here so those formative years really
2:49
set me on my
2:51
path
2:53
uh and especially uh the cooking that
2:57
went on in the kitchen that I would
2:59
watch my grandmother and Sam do mama was
3:03
a waitress and a Peggy was a lifeguard
3:06
like I said it was a it was a whole
3:09
family affair but uh the New River ban
3:13
collection certainly reminds me of those
3:16
10 years it's just happy stuff to me
3:21
just happy stuff and uh I'm so excited
3:24

5:43
supportive thank you thank you dear
5:46
byebye all right so here's Cheryl's
5:48
question I just want to thank you from
5:51
the bottom of my heart for your air frer
5:54
cookbook that you signed for me on
5:56
August the 12th when you were at Ian
6:00
this is the first time that I have ever
6:02
gotten anything from anybody and since
6:05
it is more than special I will treasure
6:08
it forever it just means the world to me
6:11
and I hold it very precious to my heart
6:13
thank you again so much finally Sherl uh
6:17
I'm so glad and I know this is maybe the
6:20
second thing that I've gotten from you
6:22
Cheryl uh one time you asked why was it
6:25
taking so long for the air fryer to come
6:28
back well that's because it totally sold
6:31
out and uh it just takes time to get
6:35
more more made but I am so happy that
6:39
you're happy with your air fryer you
6:42
know I I know y'all have heard me talk
6:43
about it a lot out there but it truly
6:46
can change your
6:47
life okay oh yay hello hey car Cheryl
6:53
you called me back I'm just I did I
6:56
thought I would take a chance oh good
6:59
good well I'm sitting here doing my
7:02
podcast and uh of course I called you up
7:05
and uh you didn't answer but I'm still
7:09
in the middle of the podcast so this is
7:11
wonderful great time and thanks so much
7:14
for calling me right back and I just I
7:18
just read your well there was really no
7:20
question it's you were thanking me for
7:23
signing uh my new air fryer cookbook to
7:26
you yes that just meant the world to me
7:29
Paul I am just so thrilled that you did
7:32
that for me it's like I've never had you
7:34
know have somebody do something like
7:36
that for me or get something you know
7:38
even as simple as a cookbook and it just
7:41
meant the world me I am GNA be
7:42
treasuring that thing until the day I oh
7:45
Cheryl which I hope is a long long time
7:48
honey well listen people hadn't been
7:51
doing you right if that's the first
7:53
thing you've ever been given uh so I
7:56
hope you love it I hope you love it yes
7:59
I do yes I do you know what I had to do
8:02
though I had to send the air fryer back
8:04
because it wasn't heating up the way it
8:07
was supposed to so told me that I might
8:10
have a thermostat trouble yeah so I did
8:13
send it back and I'm waiting to get the
8:15
replacement now well that's good well
8:17
you know one thing about Evan if there's
8:20
a little defect all you have to do is
8:22
send it back and they will see that you
8:25
you've got one that's completely perfect
8:29
and uh so I'm glad you noticed that
8:31
because uh what makes mine so different
8:34
you know the first time I saw an air
8:36
fryer I thought oh gosh you know I
8:38
really like this idea but how can we
8:41
take this idea and improve it so we did
8:44
that in a couple of ways our bottom is
8:48
an aluminum a shiny aluminum so that
8:52
creates a higher heat and faster so it
8:56
must it must have been a thermostat
8:58
problem yes I think because I only had
9:02
like 10 pie of fish and it took me over
9:04
an hour to get those 10 pie of fish C no
9:07
no that that's not right that is not
9:10
right okay not unless they were the size
9:12
of a
9:15
shark well when was Shark when when did
9:19
you um I am sick uh every time school
9:23
starts my husband and I get sick not
9:27
even having not even having school AG
9:29
children living in our house uh it's
9:32
like the air is permeated with all these
9:34
children you know being thrown back
9:37
together so every time I go to laugh I
9:39
get choked and start having a coughing
9:42
spell but uh when did you return
9:46
it uh it's got to be at least about two
9:49
weeks now hoping I will get it here
9:51
pretty soon you do miss it you should
9:54
yeah I'm telling you it can change your
9:57
life it's that that air fryer can do
10:00
anything that your microwave your stove
10:02
your oven your top of your stove it can
10:05
do everything everything now do now do I
10:09
have to spray a lot of that olive oil on
10:11
the food for it to get really nice and
10:12
brown and crispy you know I I I I'm not
10:16
saying a lot I'm not saying a lot okay
10:19
my daughter-in-law is using a lot of
10:21
coconut oil so okay so you can use any
10:25
flavor you want it doesn't necessarily
10:26
have to be olive oil but um
10:30
okay like if I'm doing chicken you know
10:33
I I spray it pretty good and then when
10:35
it's halfway done I turn it over and I
10:37
do spray the other side because it it it
10:41
will get crispy or if you're doing fish
10:43
anything like that you want to um all
10:46
right now I probably go heavier when I'm
10:50
making french
10:51
fries okay okay that's good know that's
10:54
good know but still even even when you
10:57
say you're spraying a good bit it's
11:00
hardly anything you know when when it's
11:03
all said and done it's hardly
11:05
anything oh my goodness I had jacket
11:10
earlier it's terrible it's terrible and
11:14
the more I talk the the worst it gets
11:17
well Cheryl I so appreciate your note
11:20
honey and uh I'm I'll be looking for you
11:23
were going to get that well let let me
11:26
know uh when your air fryer gets back to
11:29
you but I want to know and and uh like I
11:32
said the folks at
11:34
evine uh they are they are so good and
11:37
they want you satisfied and happy so
11:41
okay that sounds good they'll that
11:43
they'll take good care of you sometimes
11:45
there just thank you so much for calling
11:47
thank you Cheryl have a blessed one dear
11:50
bye bye you too bye thank y'all for
11:53
being with me today I did get to a few
11:56
questions but as I was telling Cheryl
11:58
our last uh question questiony
12:03
or whatever uh that I've gotten it's
12:06
September and I've gotten the back to
12:08
school
12:09
cruds and uh the more I talk the more I
12:12
want to cough so but thank y'all for
12:14
bearing with me today you know I love
12:17
you and I always send you best dishes
12:20
