Paula hey y'all we're back and uh I'm
2:29
sitting at this man that y'all he's so
2:32
funny he is just funny he makes me laugh
2:35
and um you know I was watching TV this
2:38
morning and uh the girls on The View
2:41
were talking about when you know a
2:43
relationship is
2:44
over and you know what Whoopi said what
2:50
when she quits laughing she knows it's
2:54
over so I'm still laughing at his stupid
2:57
jokes that he has told me a thousand
3:00
times I still think they're
3:02
funny well they so so you and so we're
3:06
in good shape from my side from my end
3:09
of it and uh I good good good good cuz
3:13
there's not many people that keep
3:14
laughing at my jokes I know but see my
3:18
memories so bad I forget
3:20
them and it's just like hearing them new
3:22
all over
3:23
again uh we've got an anniversary coming
3:26
up in how many days
3:28
Michael 2 or 3 weeks yes not not far
3:32
March the 6th Michael and I will have
3:35
been married 12 years I think we married
3:39
in 2004 right so I'm right in my
3:45
ciphering this may be 13 no how could it
3:49
be no you're right 16 yeah yeah 16 2016
3:54
oh it's 2016 yeah all right so what what
3:58
do you want me to prepare prep are you
4:00
for our uh let's see um 12th
4:03
anniversary how about Stana rib roast
4:06
okay that's kind of boring I don't think
4:09
so um it is delicious isn't it and I've
4:13
got a recipe y'all for uh a standing rib
4:16
roast and you know when you pay what you
4:19
have to pay for a standing rib roast you
4:22
want it to turn out perfect uh otherwise
4:26
you know you just cry and kiss 7 $5 down
4:31
the
4:31
drain uh but I've got a recipe in my
4:34
second cookbook uh the lady and Suns
4:38
2 that is a no fail standing rib roast
4:44
recipe I don't care if you're cooking a
4:47
5B standing rib or a 10 lb standing rib
4:51
if you follow right by those directions
4:54
it will turn out succulent and perfect
4:57
every time when it Michael yeah I I just
4:59
love it so um what would you pick for
5:01
anniversary since mine was boring well
5:04
that you know that sounds good I love
5:06
meat and potatoes oh I do too I'd almost
5:09
rather have just a potato with lots of
5:13
butter and sour cream and maybe a few
5:15
chives yum you know I have a very simple
5:19
palette and I think you kind of do too
5:23
we don't like our food all fancied up
5:25
with all those that's right all those
5:27
different herbs and spices people trying
5:29
to make it different yeah especially
5:31
like a steak with with sauce on it I
5:33
don't I oh please anytime we go to a
5:36
restaurant you know I always say hold
5:38
the sauce unless it's a
5:40
bernes now I do love a good bernes sauce
5:44
I love the flavor of taragon kind of
5:48
tastes a little bit like licorice you
5:50
know and it's that wonderful creamy
5:52
sauce that you could stick a straw in
5:54
and actually sip on
5:56
it I've done it before G
6:00
well Paula said that her her favorite
6:02
food was a potato I asked her one time
6:05
this been some years ago if she was
6:08
stuck on a deserted island and she could
6:10
only carry bring one thing with her and
6:13
one thing only what would it be and she
6:16
said a potato I said that's all you
6:20
would bring was a potato and she said
6:22
yes um that's what I that's my favorite
6:25
thing of potato she said what would you
6:27
bring I said a boat
6:30
Then I then I would come and get you and
6:31
your potato we stupid
6:35
potato I didn't I didn't think it
6:38
[Laughter]
6:40
through but we have had fun over the
6:43
years how many years have we been
6:44
together well we dated for we dated for
6:47
3 years yeah and we're coming up on 12
6:49
year anniversary so 15 I can't remember
6:52
if we met in 2000 five happy
6:57
years well I feel like that I've been
7:01
married to you just like five
7:04
minutes I know
7:08
underwater well really we we we've done
7:10
more than most people doing a I know a
7:13
long marriage I know you were married
7:16
for 25 years I was married for 27 years
7:20
and do you know after a year with you
7:24
you and I spent more time together than
7:26
I did with my first husband in 27 years
7:31
unbelievable that's what I I said one
7:33
time was uh this this guy he got caught
7:37
he didn't uh he won the lotto and he
7:40
didn't he was going through a divorce so
7:42
he didn't tell his his soon to be
7:44
ex-wife that he had won the lot so he
7:46
hid the ticket and then he then he um
7:49
when he cashed a ticket she went back
7:51
and got half of it yes and I said I
7:54
remember that and I was telling my
7:56
ex-wife that um I said well you know I'd
7:58
give my ex-wife half if if I um if I won
8:01
the lotto she said well you don't have
8:03
xwi I said I hadn't hit the lotto yet
8:08
either see what I'm saying y'all he
8:10
makes me laugh all the time um JC Blanco
8:15
was just here he was he was a guest with
8:18
me and we were talking about cath
8:20
Catholicism right and lent right what
8:24
have you given up for Lent I know that
8:26
your family's big well I actually didn't
8:30
I didn't pick any one thing to give up
8:32
but I was kind of watching what I eat
8:34
and um you know trying to eat healthy so
8:40
I didn't necessarily give up anything
8:43
this year yes I noticed that you had uh
8:45
we went evine this weekend and uh we got
8:49
breakfast from the little hotel
8:52
cafeteria and I noticed you got oatmeal
8:55
I did and I got sausage egg and cheese
8:58
croissant sandwich I got a oatmeal but I
9:01
also knew I was going on evine and you'd
9:03
be pushing cake in my mouth oh you know
9:06
it and cookies you're my best taste
9:08
tester I am and it's hard to resist that
9:10
but it's I know it and this weekend I
9:13
was selling those wonderful coconut
9:16
cakes and the strawberry cakes I just
9:18
love strawber cookies oh my gosh I'm so
9:20
proud of my cookies mhm I'm so proud of
9:23
them oh yeah they're good oh they more
9:26
than
9:27
good and uh
9:30
of course I got my little Treasure Chest
9:31
full of all of St strickling right uh
9:35
candies from Savannah Candy Kitchen
9:37
which is
9:39
delicious those chocolate covered
9:41
peanuts oh I just love his Gophers I
9:44
know I know but all of his stuff is is
9:47
topnotch that's what you could have
9:49
given up go for
9:51
sandwiches I know I should have done
9:55
that so Hank's going to come in and
9:57
visit with I understand brother uh Hank
10:00
is Michael's older brother and he's a
10:04
Catholic
10:06
priest and y'all will be meeting him
10:09
y'all will be meeting him very very soon
10:12
so let's take a quick break and uh we'll
10:17
be back and we'll talk about some more
10:18
gopher Burgers I got a question do y'all
10:22
like to put hot sauce on everything if
10:24
so it might be time to have a look at
10:27
Fuego box a hot sauce club that delivers
10:31
boxes of small batch and gourmet hot
10:34
sauces right to your doorstep they focus
10:37
on Flavor overheat and always avoid
10:41
gimmicky selections now these sauces are
10:44
absolutely delicious and you'll get one
10:47
that matches with whatever you're eating
10:49
like fish chicken tacos even pizza so
10:52
think of fuo box as a hot sauce club for
10:56
people who love food I just received a
10:59
sampler from boo box and wound up trying
11:02
just about every one of them and you
11:04
know what Michael loves hot sauce like
11:07
there's no tomorrow I think you're going
11:10
to love this to purchase or even give it
11:13
as a gift go to fob
11:16
box.co and use code Paula for $10 off
11:20
your first box that's fob
11:24
box.co promo code Paula for 10 bucks off
11:28
the best hot sauces you've probably
11:31
never heard of again go to fuo
11:36
box.co and use my code Paula for
11:41
savings hey y'all we're back with what's
11:43
cooking with Paula Dean and I got a
11:45
great big old man that's cooking next to
11:47
me today uh we're talking about
11:50
anniversary meals and mine and Michael's
11:53
palettes are very simple but we love for
11:56
it to be really really good
12:00
um so anyway we were talking about my
12:03
trip to evine for y'all that don't know
12:06
what evine is uh it was shop HQ and a
12:11
year ago because they're celebrating
12:13
their first uh anniversary this past
12:16
weekend it's a shop at home network and
12:19
it's called evine e v i NE and I'm one
12:23
of the women on evine and I go up once a
12:26
month and Michael's so good about coming
12:29
along with me and keeping me company and
12:33
what was the temperature up there
12:34
Michael yeah I think it was 8 degrees
12:37
was a high um eight was a high and it
12:41
was like 20 below but yeah that's what I
12:44
thought a month ago 40 below was it
12:47
really well I told somebody I thought it
12:49
was 20 below uh this past
12:52
weekend um somebody up there asked me
12:55
said how cold is it get in Savannah I
12:57
said we have a brief one I hate to even
12:59
mention it to y'all but it's it's um it
13:02
can get down to 20 they said 20 that's
13:06
hot I not where we come from I think of
13:09
times I know it's gotten down to like 17
13:11
16 17 before but it doesn't last but a
13:14
minute yes brief in that afternoon it's
13:18
65° you know so no we don't have much of
13:21
a winter I don't see how those people
13:22
live up there in that weather no I I
13:25
would be you walk out you can't breathe
13:27
your eyes hurt if if I didn't have a car
13:30
I'd jump on a southbound train isn't
13:33
that the truth I would I would get out
13:34
of there I mean the people are wonderful
13:36
up there and the the the terrain is
13:39
actually very beautiful I would get a
13:41
postcard I would get pictures on my way
13:44
out well you know what I was so excited
13:47
about this past weekend Michael uh I've
13:50
got my own beding line oh yeah that look
13:54
great coming out and I'll be back in
13:57
March to introduce it but uh they let me
14:00
show little sneak previews of it I Can't
14:03
Hardly Wait although I'm kind of excited
14:05
about the cookies and cakes but I'm so
14:08
proud of uh them finding that person
14:11
that's able to duplicate my cookies oh
14:13
yeah yeah cuz quite often they don't do
14:16
it like and I can't wait now that your
14:19
beding lines comes out now we can I
14:21
think we got room for like two more
14:23
pillows on our bed cuz we only have 20
14:27
we only have 20 decorative pillows that
14:29
you don't use that you don't put your
14:30
head on you got to move those 20 pillows
14:33
move that what do you call that thing on
14:35
that you can't sleep on what do you call
14:37
that the thing that you can't sleep on
14:39
yeah the the the duvet or whatever that
14:43
is the one you got to move
14:46
yes I like pillows on my bed y'all
14:49
somebody asked me one time so how's it
14:52
different the the living with Pauline I
14:54
said okay um and it was a live event I
14:58
said I want to show our hands how many
15:00
guys have a silver serving tray set on
15:05
their bed sitting on their bed and
15:07
nobody raised their hand I said well
15:09
that's what I thought I said I've got a
15:12
silver serving tray set that I've got to
15:15
move off my bed then I got to move 18
15:17
pillows and I got to move this duvet
15:19
that you don't sleep on that is just for
15:21
to look pretty and
15:23
then then it's time to go to bed we were
15:26
doing a photo shoot y'all the reason the
15:29
Silver Service was there on the bed we
15:31
were doing a photo shoot and I wanted it
15:33
to be
15:36
pretty I I serve you coffee every
15:39
morning in that Silver Service set don't
15:42
I you
15:44
should that's a new rule that's a new
15:49
rule I think since I'm older you need to
15:52
serve me I do most of the time most of
15:55
the time I you are pretty good if we're
15:57
out of town if we're out of town you'll
15:59
make the little coffee thing in the
16:00
hotel room I'll bring you a first cup at
16:03
least yes yes and then I can get finally
16:05
get up and get my second cup well let's
16:09
get back to anniversary meals Jamie
16:12
Jamie and Brooke talking about
16:14
anniversaries Jamie and Brooke was
16:16
actually married a year after us right
16:21
right not on the same day but it was on
16:25
a Saturday which would make the date one
16:28
day off so if ours is the sixth I think
16:31
theirs is the fifth the fifth because
16:34
remember Brooke was a 5:00 girl so it's
16:36
was 5 five 5 five Jamie called her the
16:39
five o' girl because every afternoon at
16:42
5 o'l at the new lady and Son's building
16:46
Jamie would
16:47
go over to run to the South Southside
16:51
window in the restaurant every afternoon
16:54
at 5:00 and one of his buddies there in
16:57
the restaurant finally said
16:59
Jamie why do you go to that window every
17:02
day at 5:00 he said because the most
17:05
beautiful girl in the world walks out of
17:07
that bank to her car and that's the girl
17:12
I'm going to
17:13
marry so he called her the 5:00 girl
17:17
Jamie's a romantical little devil isn't
17:20
he and you're pretty romantical too um
17:25
sometimes well thank you you're welcome
17:27
Papa
17:29
you're so
17:34
romantical um so uh anniversary
17:39
meals I you know I like surf and turf uh
17:42
one of my favorite Seafoods is uh king
17:44
crab yes I know oh my gosh it's it's the
17:47
best at Joe stone crab oh yeah but you
17:50
know what there is a restaurant here in
17:52
Savannah Georgia uh I don't know if you
17:55
were with me yeah I was you you you were
17:58
you were not working yes what's the name
18:00
of that restaurant I don't know it's
18:03
it's the one that's owned by the Asian
18:06
family that owns um Ellies and uh sea
18:11
and Ellie yes Shawn and Ellie the best
18:14
king crab I've ever eaten was what we
18:17
got that night what is the name of that
18:20
restaurant does anybody know it's across
18:23
from the noodle oodle noodle uh or
18:26
something like that uh that
18:29
is it ch
18:31
ch I don't know may be chave but uh well
18:36
I've it's Asian infusion and it is
18:39
scrumptious King CRA I've got some king
18:41
crab from uh Matthews one time and they
18:44
were yes they were this long and this
18:46
big around it was just yes yes yes yes
18:49
to die for and how do you like them do
18:51
you like them bald bred you know uh Char
18:54
grilled I like I like mine Char grilled
18:57
see I do too when we go down to South
19:00
Beach in Miami Michael and I always go
19:04
to Joe's Stone Crab and he gets the
19:08
broed um the Char grilled yeah king crab
19:12
legs and they are incredible and we
19:15
always have the stone crabs that are
19:18
just succulent with that mustard sauce
19:22
yum I'm so hungry me
19:25
too well let's go ahead and celebrate
19:28
our anniversary
19:29
uh early tonight and you know what I'm
19:32
going to cook us tell me I'm going to
19:34

19:38
quail and I'm going to smother it in a

21:41
slpa so we're back and
21:45
uh I appreciate you coming in oh I I
21:48
have fun every time I come well let me
21:51
tell you a story that happened at the
21:52
airport we were at this little bar a
21:55
cafe uhhuh and um some people came Paula
21:59
was sitting right next to me in a on her
22:01
bar stool I was sitting on this one so
22:04
some people came up to me and said um
22:06
are you Paula Dean's husband I said yes
22:09
I am they said well can we get a picture
22:12
so they got a picture well Paula was in
22:14
our travel mode so she had a baseball
22:16
cap on with a ponytail out the back uh
22:19
and U I was playing my iPad so she
22:21
wasn't wasn't like she was paying
22:23
attention to what we were doing or we
22:24
were even together because she was doing
22:26
her thing and I was on my phone or iPad
22:31
and Paula was on hers so they said well
22:33
tell Paula we just love her I said we'll
22:36
do and um that happened with like six
22:39
people would come up to me and get a
22:40
picture and normally once it starts it
22:44
kind of starts the ball rolling and
22:46
people realize there's somebody over
22:48
there so but NE not one of them noticed
22:51
Paul was sitting right next to me one of
22:52
them one of them asked me said uh does
22:55
Paula make you travel alone I said uh
22:58
sometimes I said occasionally we we'll
23:01
meet up somewhere else and but she was
23:03
sitting right next to me I know and and
23:06
I was sitting there and I heard all this
23:08
going on and Michael turning and
23:10
snapping for pictures just smiling I
23:13
thought there I'm going to be in the
23:14
background of that
23:17
picture you photo bomb me I did photob
23:20
bomb you maybe they'll figure it out
23:23
when they get home I don't think so it
23:26
didn't look like you I looked over there
23:27
and I said well no
23:29
wonder well I had on a little makeup
23:32
very
23:33
[Laughter]
23:35
little but that baseball cap will throw
23:38
them every time I love you I love you
23:40
too thanks so much for coming in and
23:43
thank you for making me laugh well thank
23:46
you for loving
23:48
me I do I love you and thank you for
23:51
loving
23:53
me until next time y'all that's what's
23:57
cooking with Paula Dean
23:59
I got a question do y'all like to put
24:01
hot sauce on everything if so it might
24:04
be time to have a look at Fuego box a
24:08
hot sauce club that delivers boxes of
24:11
small batch and gourmet hot sauces right
24:14
to your doorstep they focus on Flavor
24:17
over heat and always avoid gimmicky
24:20
selections now these sauces are
24:23
absolutely delicious and you'll get one
24:25
that matches with whatever you're eating
24:28

24:31
think of fuego box as a hot sauce club

24:38
a sampler from boo box and wound up
24:41
trying just about every one of them and
24:43
