0:01
Labor day is winding up.
0:02
I'm here in Mama's kitchen to share
0:04
some good recipes with ya.
0:07
This isn't an adult drink,
0:08
although it has adult flavors in it.
0:10
And you can make it adult drink if you want.
0:12
We're gonna cook down today y'all,
0:14
a sparkling mint and ginger lemonade.
0:16
Really good, really easy recipe.
0:19
And it's always fun to get to cook a drink.
0:21
I'm still trying to figure out mama stove,
0:22
I've only been here 10 years.
0:24
So in a little sauce pan, what we have,
0:26
and I've cut this recipe in half,
0:28
you'll see the measurements online.
0:31
we're gonna start with water.
0:32
We're gonna make a simple syrup here,
0:34
which is water and sugar.
0:36
And now we're gonna cook this down
0:38
until the sugar dissolves.
0:40
But to this, I'm also gonna add,
0:43
a little something unusual.
0:46
I'm using ginger paste today.
0:48
I don't have any fresh ginger.
0:49
So, I'm going two tablespoons
0:54
of ginger paste in here.
0:58
Now ginger and lemonade are two flavors that are
1:00
gonna lend itself and you'll be really surprised
1:03
And we're gonna sparkle this up at the end.
1:06
So our ginger, our sugar, our water,
1:09
and then we're gonna add
1:12
And I'm gonna this up and get it to a bowl.
1:17
And then once this boils, I'm goin' cover it,
1:19
and we're going to steep this for an amount of time
1:21
and then I'm gonna get all these solids out.
1:24
So you see the first ingredients we've got in here,
1:26
water, sugar, ginger, and mint.
1:29
I'm gonna let this come up to a boil
1:31
and then I'm gonna cover it
1:32
and it's going to sit here
1:33
and then we'll finish it
1:39
We got our syrup mixture here, cooled down.
1:43
So I'm gonna strain out the solids that are in here.
1:46
Which is gonna be our mint leaves.
1:52
Might take a little bit longer
1:53
than I was anticipating.
1:54
And what we're gonna add to this y'all is our,
1:56
we have our fresh lemon juice and we're gonna add
2:01
That's what makes it sparkling.
2:04
And so let's just sit here forever and wait
2:11
Let me catch you up on what's going on today for
2:12
Theresa and I, because we are both
2:15
chickens with heads cut off.
2:16
Theresa has to have a party tomorrow.
2:18
My son, Jack who turned 16 last week,
2:20
is at his final driving lesson.
2:22
My two year old is sick.
2:24
My 11 year old is at school.
2:26
And so Theresa is thinkin' about tomorrow.
2:27
I'm thinking about yesterday.
2:29
And neither one of us is really sure
2:30
what we're doing today.
2:32
This drink's gonna make me feel
2:33
a little bit better though.
2:34
God, this is taking so long,
2:36
but everything worth having is worth waiting on.
2:40
See how this is kind of...
2:41
I wonder what that is.
2:42
It's interesting how this is cooked down
2:45
and the ginger and the sugar is kind of turned
2:48
I wanna make sure and get all that flavor
2:51
out of there that I can.
2:54
Pretty good deal, huh?
2:55
So in our little pitcher here, we're gonna add,
2:58
this is our potent syrup that we just dealt with.
3:05
And we've got our fresh lemon juice.
3:09
And we're gonna add one liter of seltzer water.
3:13
- [Theresa] Hey Jamie, can I make a suggestion?
3:15
- [Theresa] Since we're not probably gonna need to
3:17
use all that syrup right this moment,
3:18
why don't we just make individual drinks?
3:22
- [Theresa] That way we can save some
3:24
for your mom and Eddie.
3:26
- So if you've got a group of people there
3:28
and you're ready to have your drinks,
3:29
Theresa and I are not gonna,
3:31
we don't have time to sit around
3:32
and drink sparkly ginger lemonade this morning.
3:35
So we're gonna do 'em one at a time.
3:38
I'm gonna add, I'm gonna say about,
3:43
maybe a half a glass.
3:46
And I'm gonna top it with our seltzer.
3:52
- That looks pretty good.
3:54
Now if Theresa and I knew what we were doing,
3:56
we would have fresh lemons and mint
3:59
Oh, as she points this way, we have it.
4:09
Light, refreshing, delicious.
4:11
The only thing this is missing is vodka
4:14
Thanks for tuning in y'all.
4:15
I'm Jamie Dean, and this is a good drink.
4:19
(Jamie sips enthusiastically)
