- Hey, y'all.
0:02
Today, Eddie and I, in this video,
0:05
we're not gon' be in the kitchen,
0:07
but we are gonna be taking you
0:09
to one of our favorite haunts here in Savannah,
0:12
and it's called Seventh Heaven.
0:16
And when I walk in, I am in seventh heaven.
0:20
Joe, the owner of Seventh Heaven,
0:25
has all these wonderful, wonderful,
0:30
from accessories to furniture.
0:32
He buys up estates, and he shares them with the public.
0:39
Of course, there's a nice little price on 'em,
0:41
but you know when you buy something from Joe,
0:44
he knows the history,
0:45
and you know that he knows it is good stuff.
0:49
So, I feel real good about shopping with Joe.
0:53
I found this little frog one day,
0:55
I was in one of the box stores, Home Depot or HomeGoods.
1:02
One of those stores, and I saw this little frog,
1:06
and I said, it's so cute.
1:08
I had seen a frog lamp at Carrie, at my niece's house,
1:13
and I thought, oh, I want a frog lamp too.
1:16
So, I found this frog, and I took it in to Joe.
1:19
He, on top of antiques, he started doing lamps.
1:26
He actually repairs lamps, makes lamps.
1:30
Two of my favorite lamps,
1:34
my bird lamps that the boys gave me one year for Christmas.
1:38
But so, I took this frog in,
1:40
and Joe made this base for him to sit on.
1:44
And course, I got the shade and the finial from Joe.
1:49
So, we gon' be seeing a lot of neat things today.
1:52
In fact, I brought two lamps the other day
1:58
for our living room,
2:00
and he called this morning and they're ready.
2:02
So Eddie and I said, "This is a perfect day
2:04
to take y'all on that tour."
2:06
No cooking today,
2:07
it's too hot to get in that kitchen today, y'all.
2:10
So, we gon' load up and go see our buddy, Joe,
2:13
at Seventh Heaven.
2:16
Well, we're here, y'all,
2:17
and the last time I was in here a few days ago,
2:20
I found this lamp, and I really, really like it,
2:23
but the shade I didn't care for.
2:26
So, I'm bringing this lamp back,
2:29
and I'm gon' try it with another shade.
2:30
So, let's go in and meet Joe.
2:33
All right, I found Joe, and he's got my lamps ready.
2:39
This guy, he's so good at what he does.
2:41
So, oh, they're beautiful!
2:44
(Paula stuttering)
2:45
- See where we made up the space right there with that.
2:49
That's the finial I was talking about.
2:51
I can fit a little bigger neck
2:54
and make up that quarter inch.
2:55
- [Paula] That's great, 'cause they were different heights.
2:57
- Right, see, that's a little about a quarter inch
3:00
or so, lower.
3:01
- [Paula] But they not even gon' be on the same side
3:03
of the room. - Well, that's what I thought.
3:04
So I think as long as the lampshade,
3:06
the height is the same, it'll look fine, so...
3:09
- Well, I've been talking good about you.
3:12
Did I buy those lamps?
3:13
- No, these are for other people.
3:14
I made lamps all day, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
3:19
- [Paula] Wow, wow.
3:20
- So, see over there?
3:22
There's more that we made.
3:23
- Oh wow, wow!
3:25
- [Joe] And there's more right here we made.
3:28
(indistinct)
3:30
- [Paula] All right, what is that thing right there?
3:34
That big brown thing?
3:35
- [Joe] That is a African pot that she brought,
3:38
and have us make into lamps.
3:39
- [Eddie] That is cool, are they--
3:41
- It's gorgeous.
3:42
- [Joe] Ain't that wonderful?
3:44
- [Eddie] All of them are thrilling.
3:45
- Yeah, all.
3:47
There's two small ones, one large one,
3:49
and I have another one here that I hadn't done yet.
3:54
So, you know, you gotta drill them
3:57
and finding the very center on those radius's
4:01
is a little difficult for us, non colored people.
4:06
So, do you want me to take these to the back
4:08
and we can play with shades?
4:09
- Yes, and look, we brought that shade back,
4:12
I didn't like the shade for this.
4:14
To me, the lamp was too tall for that size shade.
4:17
So, I wanna see if we can go up and find the right one.
4:20
Where's Julie?
4:21
- She's in the back, now she will not let you film her.
4:24
- She'll not let me film her?
4:25
- No, she will not. (Paula laughing)
4:28
- Wow, is somebody got a warrant out for her?
4:32
They looking for her?
4:33
- Nah, she's just not a camera girl.
4:36
- Well, that is just all right.
4:38
- Yeah. - That is all right.
4:40
Julie is a very pretty young woman that works here,
4:45
that is Joe's right-hand woman.
4:47
- I'm the janitor, she's the boss.
4:49
- She's the boss?
4:50
(Paula laughs) - Yep.
4:51
- [Paula] All right, I wanna ask you something.
4:53
- Okay.
4:54
- I think it's 'cause of my age,
4:56
I'm just used to shades being shaped like this.
4:59
- [Joe] Okay.
5:00
- You know, rather than that straight stuff.
5:03
So, is that the right?
5:06
- Let me take this.
5:07
- [Paula] Is that the right size?
5:09
- Hold on just a second.
5:11
- [Joe] Do you have a bell shade in the lemon color?
5:14
- Um, we'll have to ask the experts.
5:16
I'm just the lamp maker.
5:18
(Paula laughs)
5:20
- Okay, let's see.
5:22
I can't see.
5:24
(faintly speaking) Joe.
5:27
Yeah, see, I like that so much better
5:29
'cause that other shade had lot of the gold--
5:31
- [Joe] So, you're just a traditional girl?
5:33
You can't have this?
5:33
- I am a traditional girl,
5:35
but you gon' find some of the funkiest stuff
5:37
in my house.
5:38
The gears.
5:40
- [Eddie] I have these.
5:40
- [Paula] Oh, Joe was strictly just antiques.
5:45
And what year did you decide to start filling with lamps
5:48
and lampshades, Joe?
5:49
- [Joe] I guess it's been six years ago now.
5:52
- [Paula] Wow.
5:53
And apparently it has worked.
5:56
- It has worked.
5:57
I didn't know what I was getting into.
5:58
(Paula laughs)
6:00
- Um. - [Paula] Well.
6:01
- [Joe] It created a monster.
6:03
That's too--
6:04
- [Eddie] I think the bell shades could be better.
6:05
- [Paula] It is so nice to be able to come in here
6:08
and have so many choices.
6:10
- Well, you know, I like instant gratification, so...
6:14
- Joe, me too, I've said that about me.
6:15
That's why I cook. [Joe] - Yeah.
6:18
- Okay, Mr. Eric, do your thing.
6:28
- All right, let's grab a light bulb.
6:32
And I'm just starting off with a 10 and a half,
6:35
so we can gauge what we need.
6:38
- [Paula] Okay, what is the that?
6:39
- [Mr. Eric] Oh, this is called a light stick.
6:41
- Uh huh, will it light up?
6:43
- [Mr. Eric] Oh yeah.
6:44
- No.
6:45
- Wait, we gotta plug it in.
6:48
There we go.
6:49
(Mr. Eric chuckles)
6:50
- Can we buy those anywhere?
6:52
- [Mr. Eric] Oh, you can get 'em on Amazon.
6:54
They're literally just called, GE light sticks.
6:56
- How long will they last?
6:59
Will they last longer than a bulb or?
7:01
- [Mr. Eric] They are the LED bulbs,
7:03
so I think as long as an LED.
7:06
- [Paula] Yeah, I've never seen those before.
7:10
- [Mr. Eric] Now, would you want like a linen bell shape,
7:12
Paula, or?
7:13
- Uh, well, I think that's right.
7:16
- [Mr. Eric] You like the silk?
7:20
- The only thing that I really don't like is bell lamp.
7:26
I don't want bell lamp.
7:28
- [Eddie] I think it needs to be a white in the living room
7:31
with the furniture.
7:33
- Yeah, easy to care for, easy to clean.
7:37
- [Mr. Eric] All right.
7:40
- [Eddie] And not a yellow white.
7:43
More of a white, bluish, grayish white or something.
7:48
- All right.
8:05
- [Eddie] Yeah, that looks great.
8:06
- It looks fabulous!
8:08
All right, can I try this one real quick?
8:13
Just, I'm gon' break it (indistinct) in the store.
8:16
(Eddie chuckles)
8:18
- [Paula] No. - [Eddie] No.
8:21
- I just wanna make sure I'm sure.
8:22
- If it was square, maybe it would work.
8:25
- [Eddie] Squares and circles.
8:28
- So, what do y'all think?
8:29
Are y'all like me and like the tapered shape shades?
8:32
Or are you into the straighter?
8:36
- [Eddie] That one's nice.
8:37
- That is so nice, isn't it?
8:41
- Now y'all, you can't forget the jewelry.
8:44
- Yes, got to put the lipstick on it.
8:52
All right, let's try the rams, please.
8:55
- Of course.
8:57
- I think this is it, don't you, Eddie?
8:59
- [Eddie] Yes.
9:01
- Now is this color okay?
9:03
- [Eddie] Yeah. - [Paula] Yeah.
9:04
- 'Cause it's always, we only really have like
9:07
the off-white ones.
9:08
- [Paula] Is this a off-white?
9:10
- Well, it's white, but it's really considered, I guess,
9:13
an off-white.
9:15
- [Paula] Yeah.
9:17
I like the ram's head because you can see him.
9:21
But they gon' be on table, so you'll be able to see
9:24
whatever we put.
9:26
- [Eddie] Yeah, it'll be kind of like this, walking by.
9:29
- Yes.
9:30
You know what?
9:32
Let's try that one and see.
9:35
- The only thing about these is,
9:37
you have to kinda position it so you can turn it.
9:41
- But you know what?
9:42
You can't really look at that and tell what it is.
9:47
Beat it, beat it, beat it!
9:50
I used to love that song.
9:53
And that song was popular in '85?
9:58
'84, '85?
10:01
Jimmy Dean and I, used to dance to it, I know that much.
10:06
And it was before we moved to Savannah.
10:08
I don't like the bright gold with it.
10:14
- Yeah.
10:16
- Nope, that looks kinda goldie, a little bit gold.
10:19
All right, let's try...
10:21
You know what?
10:22
Eddie, I really do think I like the blue willow with it,
10:26
kinda bring that thing moon up.
10:30
- It really did look nice.
10:31
- [Paula] Yeah.
10:32
All right, I'm gonna look for some more blue willow.
10:37
- [Joe] Look, another traditional shade.
10:39
(Paula laughs)
10:43
- All right, the millennials, what shade would they pick?
10:46
- A drum.
10:47
- Yeah.
10:48
- I don't like the drums.
10:50
- [Paula] We'll, Paula,
10:51
you gotta come in to the 21st century.
10:53
- You could do a microfiber silk drum.
10:58
- [Paula] Huh?
10:58
- The micro, is it a microfibers?
11:01
- [Joe] I don't know the shades now, I'm just a janitor.
11:05
(Paula chuckles)
11:06
- [Eddie] I like that one.
11:07
- [Paula] You're the only janitor I've met
11:09
that writes the checks.
11:11
(Paula laughs)
11:12
- [Joe] Somebody's gotta do it.
11:14
Nobody else wanted that.
11:16
- All right, Eddie said I decorate my committee,
11:19
so he liked that one.
11:22
You're now part of the committee.
11:24
- I love this finial on that.
11:27
I think that's good, and nobody else has done that.
11:31
- [Eddie] I like the coral,
11:31
since she have some coral in the ceiling.
11:34
- [Joe] I think that finial is stun.
11:36
I mean, I think that's outstanding, don't you, Eddie?
11:38
- [Paula] Well then, let's do that one.
11:40
- [Joe] I vote for that finial.
11:42
- Some of our ceilings are coral in the house, so...
11:47
- Nobody has picked that shade out for that lamp,
11:49
but yeah, I think it looks good, I'm not against it.
11:53
- Well, that's just 'cause they don't know any better.
11:55
- Well, I know they're not--
11:56
(Paula laughs)
11:58
Now, it getting really good.
12:02
- Yeah, I think that's beautiful.
12:04
I just wish it was like that big.
12:05
- [Joe] So, do you want a job lamp shades?
12:08
(Mr. Eric faintly speaking)
12:10
- Bet all walk out of here looking the same.
12:13
You have two choices. - Yeah.
12:16
- White or off-white.
12:18
- And this shape or this shape, and that's it.
12:20
- Yep, I could cut back on your stock
12:23
like you wouldn't believe.
12:24
- [Joe] You could save me a lot of money.
12:25
- [Mr. Eric] This one's bigger, do you like that one?
12:27
- [Paula] I don't know, I love the way you can see through.
12:32
- [Eddie] Well, that one has a lot of holes too.
12:34
- [Paula] It does.
12:35
- [Eddie] Yep, it's got two different designs too,
12:36
it looks like on the front and back.
12:40
- [Paula] All right, so what do y'all think?
12:43
- [Eddie] I think the bigger--
12:44
- [Mr. Eric] I like this size--
12:46
- Yeah.
12:47
I like the size and I like the color of this one.
12:51
- [Mr. Eric] Yeah, the stone in this one's
12:53
really beautiful, I love the--
12:54
- [Paula] It's beautiful.
12:55
Yeah.
12:56
- [Eddie] That one looks cool, the way it lights up.
12:59
- [Mr. Eric] Yeah, that one's real pretty.
13:00
- [Paula] Oh, that one's pretty.
13:03
So, what do we think, guys?
13:06
- [Mr. Eric] I think I like this one the best.
13:07
- [Eddie] Yeah, I like that.
13:08
- [Paula] Y'all like this one the best?
13:10
- [Eddie] Uh, this one.
13:11
- [Paula] The dragons.
13:12
Okay, well then, let's do that.
13:15
- [Eddie] And then makes this the dragons on the lamp.
13:20
- Okay, well, let's go with it.
13:22
So, we'll need two of these, two of those.
13:26
You got two of 'em?
13:27
- [Mr. Eric] Sure.
13:28
- Okay.
13:29
- Oh, I'm sorry, we're fresh out.
13:30
(Eddie and Paula laugh)
13:31
- Okay!
13:33
But you won this round, Eddie.
13:36
We gon' get the shields for the scones in the living room.
13:44
See, this is what I would pick.
13:47
But Eddie like the shield, so we're getting the shield.
13:52
- [Joe] Eddie wins again.
13:53
- Eddie wins again, yeah.
13:56
We got to stop this crap.
13:58
- [Joe] Eddie decorates, Paula cooks.
14:00
- Uh-huh.
14:01
He decorates, and then I come behind him and move him.
14:05
- [Joe] When you're leaving, she changes it.
14:06
- Uh-huh, and I leave and he changes it back.
14:10
- [Joe] This will be a long brunch of them.
14:12
- Yes, it very well could be.
14:16
- We have cup coral, we have cat purr coral,
14:21
and elkhorn coral.
14:22
- [Paula] I've never heard of all those names.
14:25
All right, Eddie was wanting to look at something back here.
14:27
You know, we brought three blue ones the other day,
14:30
and a white one.
14:31
- [Joe] Well, that's not nearly enough.
14:33
(Paula chuckles)
14:34
Probably need at least three more pieces, don't you, Eddie?
14:37
- [Eddie] Well, maybe once we figure out--
14:39
- [Joe] Now, I really do like those barnacles.
14:42
They got nice texture and good--
14:43
- Uh-huh, uh-huh, I do too.
14:46
I've had those somewhere before.
14:48
- [Joe] Have you?
14:50
- Yeah.
14:51
- [Joe] And they're not as expensive as a coral.
14:52
- [Paula] Uh-hmm.
14:53
- [Joe] Coral gets pricey.
14:54
- Yeah, I like that piece of coral right there.
15:04
Yeah, those are pretty.
15:08
- Yeah, I just like 'em.
15:13
There's some more of those big (indistinct).
15:15
- Somebody was using lavender.
15:20
They're beautiful.
15:21
- [Joe] Well, did you put all the blue together?
15:22
Or is it all in one area?
15:24
- No, it's kinda--
15:26
- [Joe] Spread out.
15:26
- Yeah.
15:27
- [Eddie] Or some different shell, something in a case.
15:30
I think once we get it lit up like this, she'll like it.
15:33
Right now, she's not liking it 'cause it looks dark, but--
15:36
- [Joe] Yeah, you gotta get some white on it,
15:38
it makes such a different--
15:39
- [Eddie] She wants to open the glass glass doors
15:42
on everything.
15:42
(Joe and Paula laugh)
15:44
She's the instant gratification girl,
15:45
she needs to see everything immediately.
15:48
- Right now. - Yes, yes.
15:50
- [Joe] Snapping fingers.
15:51
- Uh-huh, I don't wanna wait, Joe.
15:53
- [Eddie] But see how this is lit up?
15:55
This is what your case will look like,
15:56
it'll highlight it nice.
15:59
- These are pretty for a back drum.
16:01
- [Joe] Once they're lit up,
16:02
it'll make such a big difference.
16:04
- Yeah, well, I'm hoping.
16:07
- And there's some darker ones
16:08
and black ones that are nice, somewhere.
16:11
- [Paula] I've never seen them, all black coral?
16:13
- [Joe] It's like that branch.
16:15
- Huh?
16:18
Look at this color down here.
16:22
Wow.
16:23
This is, yeah, this is unusual.
16:26
- [Joe] No, they're just black.
16:28
They're like this, but they (faintly speaking).
16:31
- This must be free.
16:33
- [Joe] Ma'am.
16:34
- This must be free 'cause it doesn't have a price on it.
16:37
- I think they're 55.
16:39
- Yeah, that's right.
16:39
- $55 for this?
16:42
- That one's small, so that would be 35.
16:44
(Paula chuckles)
16:45
There's the dark.
16:46
- [Mr. Eric] Oh yeah, they're all right here.
16:48
- Oh yeah, yeah.
