- In the last video I made biscuits,
0:04
I made some 7UP biscuits.
0:07
Well, we need some gravy for those biscuits,
0:10
I think so, I'm gonna share with y'all a recipe that I have.
0:19
Well, we call it sawmill gravy but sausage in gravy,
0:25
but we call it sawmill cause I guess around the sawmill,
0:28
they used to make it I don't know
0:29
the history to it, Michael.
0:31
- [Michael] No, it sounds like
0:32
- I don't know yet but that's the only thing I can think of.
0:39
All right, I'm using six pieces of bacon
0:44
and a pound of sausage
0:48
and we'll just kinda break it up
0:49
and we gonna cook all this
0:50
until the sausage is completely done
0:53
and the bacon's completely done.
0:58
And I gotta add some more things to this,
1:05
I've got salt and I've got pepper
1:08
I think it's like a teaspoon of salt
1:11
and two teaspoons of pepper because sawmill gravy
1:15
is known for the pepper in it, the black pepper.
1:20
So I'm adding one small chopped onion
1:25
and a teaspoon of garlic
1:34
and that's it, we just gonna let that cook
1:38
and I'm gonna keep kinda mashing it up
1:46
and it's gon' be delicious.
1:50
This looks really, really good, it's totally done.
1:55
And now I'm gonna sprinkle it with flour
2:01
and that'll tighten up our gravy.
2:06
And let's see how much I'm using.
2:08
I'm using three tablespoons of all purpose flour
2:14
and I may not use all of that.
2:15
I'm going to stir that up
2:20
and you notice that I didn't drain our meat mixture.
2:28
So that's gonna give it that flavor.
2:41
And you don't have to worry about when you put flour
2:45
in a dish like this, a recipe like this, you don't have
2:48
to worry it's not gonna lump
2:53
because we are not adding it to a liquid.
2:58
Okay, next goes in our cream now.
3:02
I have made sausage gravy with milk
3:05
I made it with half and half
3:07
and today I am gonna use half and half.
3:11
You could use whipping cream but I mean
3:13
that's really, really, really rich.
3:17
You could use a cup of half and half
3:21
and a cup of milk, just kind of whatever you have.
3:25
So we go in slowly add two cups of half and half
3:35
and I'm telling you what you put some of this
3:37
on a biscuit, you know that old saying about your tongue
3:42
slapping your brains out, it'll do it.
3:50
Look how pretty that is looking, wow.
4:02
And we'll let this cook for a few more minutes
4:07
until it thickens up.
4:12
It's gonna be delicious and I'll give it a taste
4:19
before I put a biscuit in it
4:26
to make sure our seasonings are right.
4:30
It looks like it could use a little bit more pepper.
4:36
- Cause it's, don't you agree Michael
4:38
that sawmill gravy is using peppery?
4:43
But Michael loves pepper, he would
4:45
I'm surprised he didn't put pepper on his cake.
4:49
I mean, he loves when I am fixing Michael's plate
4:55
and know he's not gonna be, have salt and pepper near him
4:59
well I don't use salt for his food
5:01
but I make it black, I cover it with pepper
5:07
where whatever I'm serving him is black.
5:13
And he would probably like a little bit more, wouldn't you?
5:18
- [Michael] How do you like it?
5:18
- I've never seen a man that liked black pepper so much.
5:24
Okay, so this is bubbling and it looks wonderful
5:34
We think about this being a breakfast food
5:38
but it would be delicious at dinner
5:41
with homemade biscuits and scrambled eggs,
5:54
I'm gonna give it a little taste
5:55
make sure our seasonings are right.
6:12
They're right, they are right.
6:24
And it is hot Michael, it's hot.
6:31
I might not should have added
6:33
that other little bit of pepper.
6:36
It's time to split on those biscuits open and.
6:47
- [Theresa] The biscuit looks good.
6:49
- I know, lemme look.
6:54
Oh my gosh, this is such a hearty, hearty food.
7:08
So look at that y'all.
7:23
We used to call this like pull men's food
7:30
cause on the farm, the people had hogs and cows and chickens
7:41
and so this is something that was readily available
7:49
in homes a long time ago.
7:58
(chuckles) It's so good.
8:00
Come get a bite Theresa
8:04
- Jesus said to share.
8:07
- Yes he did, nothing like a big all bite.
8:16
Oh my goodness, that is the gravy that they make
8:22
at the Paula Deen's Family Kitchen
8:23
in Pigeon Forge for breakfast, it's amazing.
8:26
- Ain't it delicious?
8:41
Win a winter chicken dinner y'all
8:45
it's so good on these nippy mornings, nippy nights.
