- [Female Speaker] So Paula,
0:01
today we're gonna do
0:02
a little quick question and answer.
0:03
- Okay.
0:04
- [Female Speaker] 'Cause you know you get a lot
0:06
of people that send in questions to us.
0:09
- I know.
0:09
- [Female Speaker] This one I don't
0:10
that you're gonna know a specific brand,
0:13
but I think hearing your take on
0:16
this topic will be interesting.
0:18
- Okay.
0:19
- [Female Speaker] So Robin asked, "Which brand
0:21
of apple pie filling is the best?"
0:23
Do you like pie fillings
0:25
or what are your recommendations on those?
0:27
- You know, y'all, I have used pie fillings on occasion,
0:34
but don't miss the opportunity
0:37
to use fresh.
0:38
- And how do you make, fresh isn't that hard to do?
0:40
I think a lot of people think it's really hard.
0:42
- It's not hard.
0:43
- Like in apple season,
0:47
you'll want to peel, wash and peel your apples
0:51
and slice 'em,
0:53
removing all the core
0:56
and
0:59
cover 'em with sugar.
1:01
It really depends.
1:02
You know, I don't have a specific amount,
1:04
but
1:07
you just sugar your apples
1:09
along with a little water.
1:10
So you're basically fixing them in a simple syrup.
1:14
- [Female Speaker] Right.
1:15
Now do you bake 'em?
1:16
I mean, do you?
1:17
- No, you cook 'em on top of the stove
1:18
until your apples are tender
1:20
and
1:24
your simple syrup is kind of thickened, you know?
1:27
- [Female Speaker] So it would be kind of like
1:28
a consistency of a canned, but it would be fresh.
1:31
- Yes, it would be fresh.
1:33
And like I use, that's how I prepare
1:38
my apples for fried apple pies.
1:42
And you know, if you need to thicken 'em,
1:46
you'd mix a little cornstarch with your water
1:51
and while they're boiling good,
1:53
you just add your slurry
1:55
and just make sure it's thick enough
1:58
because you'll want it to kind of stay on the spoon,
2:01
especially if you doing the small fried pies,
2:04
like I do that are so good.
2:07
So you have like for cherries,
2:10
I would use pie filling.
2:15
Blueberries, I like to do fresh blueberries
2:19
and you do it the same way.
2:21
You know, you sugar your fruit
2:22
and then you cook it in the simple syrup.
2:29
Let's see what, peaches.
2:31
I like to do those the same way.
2:34
- [Eddie] Pears
2:36
- Pears.
2:37
You know what?
2:38
- [Female Speaker] I don't even think there's a canned pear.
2:39
So if you were doing pears, you'd have to do it yourself.
2:42
- Pear,
2:43
pear fried pies is like my favorite pie of all times.
2:48
I love, love pear cobbler
2:51
and pear fried pies.
2:54
It's just like no other to me.
2:57
- [Female Speaker] I've never had pear cobbler.
2:58
- Oh my gosh, it's so good.
2:59
And of course I just use the canned pears for the cobbler,
3:06
but it's just really easy.
3:08
It's really easy.
3:09
- [Female Speaker] Well, I think
3:10
that's the big deal is I think people think
3:12
it's difficult to make the filling and it's not.
3:14
- And it's not, it's not.
3:15
- [Female Speaker] Okay, so our next one is from Glenda,
3:20
who must think that you look really, really young.
3:22
- Hi, Glenda.
3:24
- [Female Speaker] Because she says,
3:25
"What type of face makeup do you use?"
3:26
(laughs)
3:29
Whatever she has.
3:31
- Whatever I have.
3:33
Whatever Bubbles
3:36
buys herself.
3:37
It's too dark, she'll give it to me.
3:39
And right now I'm using Bubbles' base,
3:43
but what's the name of my stuff that I like?
3:47
- [Eddie] Is it Tarte?
3:49
- No, it's,
3:53
can you hold on one second?
3:56
Okay, the makeup base
3:57
that I use most of the time is Dermablend,
4:02
but then see Bubbles
4:05
always buys things in twos,
4:09
one for their mountain home
4:11
I mean one for their lake home
4:12
and then one for the home that they live in.
4:16
So she bought two of these
4:19
and they were too dark for her
4:21
and it's Lancome.
4:24
- [Female Speaker] Nice.
4:29
- And you can find some good ones at the drug store.
4:32
You know.
4:33
- [Female Speaker] It's finding the color
4:34
that's really the most important really.
4:36
- It really is, that is the deal
4:38
to find the right shade for your face.
4:41
- [Female Speaker] What colors does Bubbles buy you?
4:44
(laughs)
4:47
When she buys herself too dark.
4:49
- Yeah, she always tends to go too dark for herself,
4:54
so she just passes that on to me
4:56
because I do a little darker makeup,
4:59
darker than what I am.
5:01
- [Female Speaker] And you mix makeups too, don't you?
5:03
- Yes, I'll mix 'em.
5:04
I'll mix 'em and plaster it on, honey.
5:06
(laughs)
5:07
- [Female Speaker] That's the other part, plastering.
5:10
- To me.
5:12
Going back to that though real quick,
5:15
the important thing is when you get a certain age,
5:18
you gonna wanna find you a full coverage,
5:21
not a transparent face makeup,
5:23
but one that will cover
5:26
the little veins.
5:28
- [Female Speaker] My mom made me start
5:30
wearing moisturizer at like 16.
5:32
That was one of the very, she gave it to me
5:33
as a Christmas gift and she said,
5:35
"This is the best thing I'll ever give you."
5:37
- Absolutely.
5:38
- [Female Speaker] I don't know
5:39
that I used it like I should, but.
5:40
- Yes.
5:41
You know, you can't start taking care
5:43
of your skin too soon.
5:45
You can't do it.
5:46
I did not take care of mine
5:49
and I really don't do anything special today.
5:53
You know, I try to keep it clean and use my moisturizer.
5:57
But I thought hell, Paula,
5:59
you done waited too late to wear.
6:02
(laughs)
6:05
- [Female Speaker] So, Tina.
6:06
- Tina.
6:07
Hey, Tina.
6:09
- [Female Speaker] These are good questions this go around.
6:10
How do you organize your recipes?
6:14
- Throw 'em in a great big sack.
6:16
(laughs)
6:19
No, Tina,
6:21
I have more cookbooks than the law allows.
6:25
When I started doing my show for television years ago,
6:29
people would send me
6:31
their church cookbook
6:32
or the garden club cookbook, so I have tons of cookbooks,
6:39
so many that I had them put them on a book rack
6:43
and keep 'em in the attic.
6:47
But all my hand-writtens,
6:50
I keep in my drawer in my kitchen
6:54
and the file is getting thicker.
6:56
(laughs)
6:58
- [Female Speaker] Yes it is.
7:00
Okay, Betty asked, "How did you get the name Guinea?"
7:03
I think we've answered this, but.
7:05
- Betty wants to know how I got the name Guinea?
7:09
Well, Jamie was trying to teach Jack,
7:12
my very first grandchild,
7:16
to call me Granny
7:19
because Jamie
7:25
wanted me to be called something
7:28
that would maybe rub me the wrong way.
7:31
(laughs)
7:33
He first told me, he said,
7:35
"Jack's gonna call you Big Mama."
7:38
I said, well, if you do that, son,
7:40
I'm scratching you off of the inheritance list.
7:44
(laughs)
7:46
So he said,
7:48
"No, I'm gonna teach him to call you Granny."
7:50
And I said, that's fine.
7:52
I don't care what he calls me as long as he calls me.
7:55
So when Jack got old enough to mimic and talk,
8:03
Brooke called me one day
8:04
and she said, "Well, guess what Jack is calling you?"
8:08
And I said what?
8:11
She said, "He can't say Granny and it's coming out Guinea."
8:17
And I said, Brooke, that's absolutely perfect
8:20
because I am his Guinea pig
8:23
and will forever be his Guinea pig.
8:27
So Jack Dean is the one that named me.
8:32
- [Female Speaker] Okay, so Terry asks,
8:33
"What is your favorite holiday?"
8:36
- My favorite holiday hands down is Thanksgiving
8:40
and that's because Thanksgiving
8:44
is truly about all the F's.
8:47
All the F words that you like.
8:50
Food, fun, friends, family.
8:54
Thanksgiving is all about those things.
8:57
You don't have to worry about running out
8:59
and buying somebody a gift
9:01
that they probably don't want
9:02
or need to start with.
9:04
You know, this day and age,
9:06
everybody has everything they need
9:09
and most everything that they want.
9:12
So
9:13
you get that fulfillment
9:15
from your family and your friends
9:18
at Thanksgiving without
9:21
the chores of trying to go shop
9:24
for something that
9:27
you don't even know if they'll use it.
9:29
So hands down it's Thanksgiving.
9:33
- [Female Speaker] Okay, so your sessions
9:35
where you've gone to the house
9:36
and showed updates on the house
9:38
have really been big with our viewers
9:41
and we get this from many people
9:44
and they're asking
9:45
when do they get to see the next update on the house?
9:48
- I think like real soon, don't you, Eddie?
9:53
When are we gonna do?
9:56
- [Eddie] When the jigsaw puzzles are put together first.
10:00
- A jigsaw puzzle he said.
10:02
But, I would like to do a tour
10:05
while it's empty
10:07
and then do it,
10:09
take our time and do each kitchen,
10:12
each room, especially the kitchen
10:16
because there's more stuff in a kitchen.
10:21
So I want to do that very soon
10:23
because I think, when did you say
10:24
they start moving the big furniture in, Eddie?
10:27
- [Eddie] Probably Tuesday.
10:29
- Probably Tuesday.
10:31
This is Wednesday.
10:34
I wanna do it, yeah, yeah.
10:36
I wanna do it before we start moving stuff.
10:39
- [Female Speaker] It's gonna very pretty soon.
10:40
It's gonna very soon, y'all
10:42
and it looks a lot different
10:43
from the last tour I took ya'll on.
10:47
- [Female Speaker] Awesome.
10:48
That concludes our questions for today.
10:50
- Okay.
10:53
The only thing that could make this better
10:55
is if I could see y'all's face
10:58
and hear your voice,
11:00
but I love
11:03
any opportunity I get to converse
11:06
with y'all out there.
11:08
So I'll see you on the house tour very, very soon.
