- [Woman] So Bobby, you know, every now and then,
0:02
we get some fun questions and just like to kind of
0:05
give the audience a look into the lives of you
0:09
and your brother and your mom.
0:10
So this is just gonna be some questions.
0:12
- Okay.
0:13
- No pressure.
0:16
What's it like on a weekend with three three year olds?
0:21
- Oh my gosh. It's-
0:24
- [Woman] And tell everybody their names,
0:26
then a little bit about them.
0:27
- All right.
0:28
Triplets, my wife, Claudia and I have triplet
0:31
three year olds, they'll be four on their next birthday
0:33
which is in October.
0:36
And it is a weekend with them.
0:40
It's summertime with them, weekdays with them.
0:42
When school is out, you know,
0:44
they're just in preschool, they're little kids
0:46
but the days are chaotic and hectic for sure.
0:51
And busy. It's crazy.
0:54
Three three year olds are just,
0:57
I'm counting to three all day long.
0:59
I'm going 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3.
1:02
Just looking for where are they.
1:03
Where's that third?
1:04
The third one is the one that makes it
1:06
and the third one can be any one of 'em.
1:08
But the third one is what makes everything crazy.
1:10
You can keep an eye on two kids
1:12
but the third kid is like, hey, where is the third one?
1:16
So we have two girls and a boy, Olivia, Amelia, and Lenton
1:20
and they're beautiful and wonderful.
1:22
And I'm so lucky that I get to spend
1:23
a lot of time with them.
1:25
But a weekend with triple three year olds is chaos.
1:30
Chaos.
1:32
It's controlled chaos,
1:34
long days, long days-
1:35
- [Man] Is it controlled?
1:37
- No it's not controlled. It's out of control. (laughs)
1:41
But it's beautiful.
1:42
- [Woman] So when you and Claudia actually do get to go out,
1:47
what's your favorite restaurant in Savannah?
1:48
- My favorite restaurant in Savannah is
1:50
the Lady and Sons because that's our family restaurant.
1:54
I'm extremely proud of the Lady and Sons.
1:56
And the Creek House, Mama's restaurant, our restaurant
2:00
but Paula Deen's Creek House out on Wilmington Island is
2:03
Whimarsh Island is wonderful.
2:05
And we love going there.
2:07
It's got a great outdoor space for kids to play
2:10
and for, you know, exactly what we need.
2:13
Big garage bay doors that open up so you can eat
2:15
sort of an inside and outside at the same time,
2:18
a great picnic tables
2:19
it's on a beautiful piece of property.
2:20
And it's a great place with great staff.
2:23
And so too is the Lady and Son.
2:24
So those are definitely my top two restaurants
2:27
'cause I love fried chicken,
2:28
grew up on fried chicken and collard greens,
2:30
Lady and Sons is the best.
2:32
So like takes me back in time when my mama used to
2:35
fry chicken in the black skillet
2:37
and my grandma too, my grandma and pop.
2:40
And the Creek House has just got some
2:43
of the most wonderful seafood dishes.
2:45
I love brook salmon and there's some beautiful salads
2:48
on there and little country boil, which is really, you know
2:52
what we do here on the coast of Georgia.
2:55
So those are my two favorite restaurants.
2:57
And if I could name another one,
2:59
I really like Common Thread on 37th Street.
3:02
- [Woman] And I heard a lot about Common Thread.
3:04
- In fact, I ate there last night with my wife
3:06
and her parents who were in town
3:08
and it was a fantastic meal.
3:10
It always is so.
3:11
But definitely Lady and Sons and Paula Deen's Creek House,
3:14
my two favorite restaurants.
3:16
- [Woman] Do you cook a lot?
3:17
- I do. Yeah.
3:18
I cook every day 'cause I have a big family. (laughs)
3:21
- [Woman] So what's the last thing you cooked?
3:22
- The last thing I cooked.
3:23
Well, a lot of it is putting together.
3:26
A lot of things you're just putting together
3:28
for three three year olds.
3:30
- [Woman] I was gonna say, what do you feed three year olds?
3:32
- Yeah, right, exactly.
3:33
What you want to feed them and what they want
3:35
may not always be the same thing.
3:38
But we, you know, I make a breakfast every morning
3:41
and together Claudia and I will make their lunch
3:44
and their dinner.
3:45
We cook at home and make food at home
3:47
all the time for all of us.
3:48
And we sit down and eat together.
3:49
And what we try to do is make sure they eat a lot
3:56
of whole foods, you know?
3:56
So a lot of fruits and vegetables
3:58
and fortunately our kids like them.
4:01
I feed 'em oatmeal in the mornings.
4:02
I feed 'em grits and delicious scrambled eggs
4:07
and make 'em toast with with jam or cream cheese
4:11
or whatever it is they're feeling.
4:12
But the last thing, what was the last thing that I made?
4:15
Well, I guess the last thing that I made was I made grits
4:18
and I made scrambled eggs and I made toast
4:20
and I made it this morning just a little while ago
4:23
for my kids who are napping right now.
4:25
So we cook all the time.
4:27
We make food at home all the time.
4:31
And Claudia and I, in fact, we probably
4:34
we cook at home more than we go out, you know?
4:37
- [Woman] Nice.
4:38
- And that's 'cause we got three three year olds too.
4:39
So not everybody's real excited to see us
4:41
when we walk in the door. (laughs)
4:43
(indistinct)
4:46
So we cook at home a lot.
4:48
- [Woman] So tell us,
4:50
everybody's had that moment in the kitchen
4:52
and they just can remember that they didn't love.
4:55
- A bad moment?
4:55
- [Woman] A bad moment in the kitchen.
4:57
So what's your bad moment in the kitchen?
4:58
- Well, I've had a few, probably some that I've forgotten
5:01
that are documented on television somewhere.
5:03
So somebody might be able to remind me
5:06
of some bad days that I've had in the kitchen
5:09
but one of them in particular was
5:11
if hurting yourself counts, man.
5:15
I was making a steak and was finishing it
5:19
in the oven in a cast iron skillet.
5:22
So I had seared it nice on grill and gotten it beautiful.
5:26
And I threw it into a hot cast iron skillet
5:29
and threw it in the oven and
5:32
got it out and everything.
5:33
And I put it on the counter
5:34
and I did not mark that cast iron skillet with a towel
5:37
or with a pot holder or anything like that.
5:40
And very, very shortly I turned around
5:42
and I grabbed and picked up that cast iron skillet
5:45
and oh boy, was that a disaster.
5:48
I had a giant, giant blister right in the center
5:51
of my palm for a long time after that.
5:55
So I always mark my pans now.
5:57
When they're hot, there's a towel or a pot holder on it.
5:59
So make that a habit of yours too at home.
6:02
That was a disaster.
6:03
- [Woman] Okay. So we need a little dirt on your mom.
6:06
- Dirt on my mom.
6:06
- [Woman] No, no.
6:07
Just kind of tell us one of your funniest stories
6:10
about her when you were young.
6:12
- Oh gosh. (clears throat)
6:19
Can I tell 'em on here?
6:21
My mom. (laughs)
6:23
My mom.
6:25
- [Woman] She tells everything.
6:26
- She does. Yeah.
6:27
Growing up in Albany, Georgia in the 1970s.
6:34
Gosh, it was a different day and time.
6:38
Funny story.
6:40
My mom used to drive this big green,
6:46
metallic green Bonneville.
6:49
And I don't think, and it was so hideous and I
6:54
and it probably wasn't, we probably didn't own it
6:57
'cause we didn't own very much, very often growing up.
7:01
We were in apartments and rental houses and (indistinct),
7:04
whatever this Bonneville.
7:06
I just remember my mom driving around like a bat outta hell
7:09
on this Bonneville one day.
7:12
And imagine, right.
7:14
How did I live to be 52 years old?
7:16
I don't know because this was before,
7:18
this was before anybody was wearing a seatbelt.
7:21
- [Woman] I was gonna say,
7:22
were you standing in the front seat?
7:23
- No, no, no, no.
7:24
I was doing better than that.
7:25
Well probably at times I was standing in the front seat,
7:28
but this was like, imagine a 72
7:33
or three or four or five Bonneville, whatever year it was.
7:36
I don't know.
7:37
I'm sure it had lap belts in it
7:38
but we were not wearing them.
7:39
My brother and I were not wearing them.
7:40
We were up in the back.
7:42
So you have to imagine this big back bench seat.
7:45
And this thing was just a sled.
7:46
This is this huge cavernous inside.
7:49
I still remember this Bonneville
7:51
had red sinners on the hubs
7:53
and it was like a white kind of creamy interior.
7:56
And my mom was just driving that thing
7:58
trying to get me to my brother, our filthy selves
8:01
wherever we had to be, probably at school.
8:04
And laying up in the back, that would be this big,
8:07
there was this big bench seat.
8:09
And then up in between the seat, the headrest, and the glass
8:12
there was just all this space
8:14
and to a kid, that space is like to be lived in.
8:18
So my brother and I would, we would ride up there, man.
8:21
I remember laying up there underneath that glass
8:24
above that seat many, many times.
8:26
And my mama just tailgating people, trying to get us places.
8:31
And I don't know, that's not a moment, but I just
8:35
I think about mom in that car all the time
8:37
and how just crazy everything was.
8:39
And she was crazy too.
8:41
It was crazy.
8:42
Bonneville, early '70s, Albany, Georgia.
8:46
Golly.
8:47
- [Woman] Well, thanks for sharing some information.
8:48
- You're welcome.
8:50
So I hope that answers the question.
8:53
- [Woman] Oh it does.
8:54
- Yeah. More, probably more than answers.
8:55
Probably give too much information.
8:57
Ask mama about the Bonneville sometime.
9:00
- [Man] Okay.
9:01
- All right. Thanks, everybody.
