- Hey, y'all.
0:01
We're at Dogwood.
0:04
See all the big equipment and the whole mess?
0:07
Our yard is going to have
0:09
to be completely redone again, y'all,
0:13
and Eddie, the dogs live with Eddie
0:17
in the garage apartment,
0:19
and listen to 'em up there.
0:21
They know that we're here
0:23
and they're ready to take that wall down.
0:28
I miss 'em so bad.
0:32
Since you so happy.
0:34
I'm just so happy.
0:36
- [Michael] Come on, Max.
0:38
- Y'all wouldn't believe how much I miss these babies.
0:42
(Max barking)
0:43
Max, you've got the shrillest bark ever, buddy.
0:48
If you just wouldn't bark like that.
0:52
They just had a bath.
0:54
They went to the beauty shop.
0:57
- [Michael] Come on, Gus.
0:58
- Yes, you did.
1:00
Oh, Max.
1:02
Eddie put out his hand to help me up the stairs
1:05
'cause this not being able to see good sucks.
1:09
It really does suck.
1:11
So, we had wooden steps before.
1:17
Come to find out they were not in code, so, okay,
1:22
so we've got to do a new step
1:24
and we decided to go with brick,
1:28
and I love it 'cause it kind of
1:29
really anchors the house down.
1:32
So, this was, I have to hold on that bush

You know, it's funny.

This house is like 17 years old.

Hey, how you doing?

1:55
- It's 17 years old,
1:57
but we felt like it was still in pretty good shape,

I told Michael,

Well, they had been faux painted,

and the faux paint could not be covered up with all paint.

So, they had to rip all the cabinets out,

take them to a shop, and strip them down,

It's like, you do one thing and it calls for another.
9:30
I hated, hated the wood floors

that were here in this house.
9:36
They were like a, what were they, Michael?
9:39
It was some kind of wood.
9:40
I just never liked 'em.

- I don't know.
9:45
- [Michael] Something.

What was it, Australian?
9:48
- I don't know.
9:49
It should have been in Australia.
9:52
It was so unattractive.

So, that called for redoing the floors,

so it's just like one thing leads to another,

and we probably could have torn this house down, Michael,
10:06
and started over for less money.
10:09
- [Michael] No.
10:10
- [Paula] We couldn't have?
10:11
- [Michael] No.
10:13
- All right, so the fireplace wall
10:15
is going to be bumped out,
10:19
given a little bit more weight to the...
10:22
And upstairs, we've got,
10:24
might as well say three bedrooms, Eddie?
10:28
And then like a den- - 2-1/2.
10:29
- Living up there.
10:31
But this is the place where a lot
10:34
of reconstruction took place.
10:36
And the closet that was put in this house 17 years ago
10:41
was really, really bad, and not very well thought out,
10:47
so Michael and I learned a lot
10:50
when we were building Riverbend,
10:53
you know, all the girls that came in my house,
10:57
their favorite part was the dish pantry and our closet.
11:02
So, we are making the most of this room.
11:08
This is going to be our closet.
11:11
The dry cleaner rack is going to go right there
11:14
and down and around.
11:17
And because when you have a house with real tall ceilings,
11:23
you have to figure out a way
11:24
to take advantage of your height,
11:28
not just your width.
11:30
So, this was originally the laundry room, there back.
11:35
So, but we're leaving it open now,
11:38
so our laundry room will be part of our closet
11:41
because I don't know whoever started doing this,
11:45
but I have never one time undressed in my kitchen.
11:48
Have y'all?
11:50
- [Michael] I have.
11:51
- You have?
11:51
Well, you was probably drunk. (laughs)
11:55
So. (laughs)
11:57
- Might have been. - You know,
11:58
the laundry room should be in the bedroom suites.
12:03
All right.
12:04
So, now all the cabinets are gone from here.
12:07
I thought they were going to leave those, Eddie.
12:11
- [Eddie] They've got to be painted.
12:12
They had to take the floors out,
12:14
so they had to take the cabinets out.
12:15
- Oh, oh, oh.
12:17
Yes, the floors are gone.
12:19
Yeah, we're putting in a new floor.
12:21
Like I said, one thing calls for another, y'all.
12:25
And so when we built the house, this was a porch.
12:30
It didn't have a roof on it,
12:34
but it did have the fireplace.
12:36
- [Michael] And a hot tub.
12:37
- And we had a hot tub over here,
12:39
and I can count on one hand how many times
12:42
Michael and I got in that hot tub.
12:45
So, I loved my bathroom so much at Riverbend
12:52
because, you know, it had my sofas and my coffee pot
12:56
back there and the TV,
12:57
and it was just a great room to relax in without being,
13:04
you know, in the living room or the kitchen.
13:06
So, I said, hopefully we can recreate that, Michael,
13:12
like we did at Riverbend.
13:14
So, this is it, and Henry spends a lot of nights with us.
13:18
So, we're putting in a bed for Henry,
13:23
so we're really working on making the-
13:24
- [Eddie] Putting in a window seat.
13:25
- A window bed, yeah.
13:27
A window bed right here,
13:30
because like I said, Henry spends the night a lot,
13:34
and he loves staying with his Papa. (chuckles)
13:37
So, that's it, y'all.
13:39
I can't wait for this all to be done
13:41
because I do want to bring y'all back in,
13:44
but I told you it looked like a bomb was set off,
13:47
and sure enough. (chuckles)
13:49
- [Eddie] Yeah, every day, something's changing now, so.
13:52
- I know, I know, I know, Eddie.
13:55
Eddie has a chance to really keep an eye on it
13:58
living in the garage apartment
14:01
and he's enjoying it.
14:05
He says he's enjoying it.
14:06
I hope so. (chuckles)
14:08
I hope so.
14:10
Well, this is a part of my journey
14:11
I wanted to share with y'all.
14:13
