- Who feels like a cookie today?
0:03
Well, everybody at this residence,
0:07
is always in the mood for a cookie
0:10
and I've got one that's been in my files for years, y'all,
0:15
so I'm gonna make that today
0:17
and it's called, "Monster Cookies"
0:19
and I'm gonna be making them for the cookie monster
0:23
that I live with
0:26
and he'll wipe 'em out.
0:30
Y'all look at my beautiful flowers
0:32
Michael sent me for my birthday.
0:35
Now, what kind of roses are those, Eddie?
0:37
- [Eddie] Yeah, I think they're just like garden roses.
0:40
- Well, they look half dead.
0:42
(Eddie laughing)
0:43
- [Eddie] They're full, really full.
0:45
- Yeah and now this one's turning a little brown,
0:49
but they have that kind of withered look,
0:52
like they're about to go.
0:54
- Well, they're- - And I know
0:55
- it's one of your favorite roses, itin it?
0:56
- [Eddie] Yeah, the rose petals just get all rolled back.
0:59
- Yeah, they're just all curly and beautiful,
1:02
but I just can't understand the little...
1:06
- [Eddie] It's like the ones that, you know,
1:07
that we're growing out in the yard here,
1:09
- they get, - Yeah.
1:10
- [Eddie] you know, they're really full and...
1:12
- Yeah.
1:14
Well, they are beautiful.
1:16
Ooh, kind of smells like a funeral, Eddie.
1:19
(Eddie laughing)
1:22
- [Eddie] Well.
1:23
(Eddie laughing)
1:24
- You know, that smell, when you go in a funeral home
1:28
and it's all those flowers in there.
1:30
(Paula and Eddie laughing)
1:32
You smell 'em! (Paula laughing)
1:33
But they're beautiful.
1:35
All right.
1:36
So, Monster Cookies, like I said,
1:38
I have been making these for years,
1:41
but it's been a long, long time, so,
1:44
Eddie and I wasn't doing anything today
1:47
and one of our friends that helps us at Walgreens,
1:54
with things that we need asked Eddie, was it yesterday?
2:00
- [Eddie] It was last night, yeah.
2:01
- Yeah, last night when he went in
2:03
to pick up something for me, she said,
2:07
"You know, I don't wanna, I feel kind of bad asking",
2:12
but she said, "Last year,
2:14
I thought we had started a tradition
2:17
with Paula bringing me and us cookies".
2:21
(Paula and Eddie laughing)
2:23
So, as soon as we get through getting these out the oven,
2:29
Eddie and I gonna go to the drugstore
2:31
and take Phoebe a great, big pan full.
2:35
So, here we go.
2:37
It's so easy and Michael burned up
2:41
my little hand mixer the other day,
2:44
making his "Twice Baked Shrimp Potatoes" for Christmas,
2:52
so I don't have a hand mixer.
2:56
So, I'm gonna just try to do this by hand,
3:00
in fact, my recipe really doesn't even call for a mixer,
3:05
it just says, "beat", I mean no, it says, "mix".
3:09
How I did I say it?
3:11
Yeah, "mix well", so, to me that could kind of be anything.
3:19
So, I'm just gonna beat these eggs up,
3:21
but we do have this little piece that I use on soups
3:26
that I wanna smooth out, let's see if I can...
3:30
Where's the...
3:31
- [Eddie] On the handle.
3:32
- Oh there, I see it.
3:33
(electrical whisk whirring)
3:36
Yeah, that'll get those eggs beat up good, Eddie.
3:40
It's so pretty and yellow.
3:43
You have to keep mashing that buttonhole thing.
3:45
Now, I'm gonna go ahead and add brown sugar
3:49
and the white sugar.
3:53
(electronic whisk whirring)
3:59
This is not as strong as a regular hand mixer.
4:02
When we go take Phoebe her cookies,
4:07
I'm not gonna stop
4:08
until I come home with a hand mixer, Eddie.
4:10
(Eddie laughing)
4:11
(electronic whisk whirring)
4:19
Okay, that brown sugar really kind of needed,
4:23
(electronic whisk whirring)
4:25
needed a little something something, Eddie.
4:30
Okay.
4:32
All right, next, we're gonna add our butter
4:36
and I think I may do it again
4:39
for the butter and the peanut butter.
4:43
And when we get through y'all,
4:46
I'll go through and give you the amounts
4:49
of all the ingredients.
4:51
All right, let's see, now I need
4:54
a 12 ounce jar of peanut butter
4:59
and I just, I like creamy peanut butter,
5:01
so that's what I'm using, but you can use either one,
5:05
whatever your favorite is.
5:11
I got a banana, a good banana over there, that's ripe.
5:17
That's what I'd like for lunch,
5:19
a fried banana and peanut butter sandwich.
5:23
You know, that was Elvis's favorite sandwich?
5:27
You know it, Eddie?
5:28
- [Eddie] No, I did not know that.
5:29
- Well, that was his favorite sandwich.
5:31
- [Eddie] I would have thought
5:32
he would like a pork chop or something.
5:34
- Well, he'd probably like that, too.
5:35
(Paula and Eddie laughing)
5:37
But I think it was his grandmother or his aunt,
5:40
maybe it was his aunt,
5:42
that used to fix him these sandwiches,
5:47
but I've made them before and they are so good.
5:56
Okay, we've got all the goody out of that one.
6:04
I did a video y'all, the other day
6:08
that a fan sent in to me...
6:12
For...
6:16
(Paula laughing)
6:18
For...
6:23
"English Muffin Bread".
6:25
I knew it would come to me.
6:27
(Paula laughing)
6:28
And oh, my goodness, it was so good.
6:32
So, have y'all seen that video?
6:35
- [Eddie] Yeah, it's already been out, so-
6:37
- It's already been out?
6:38
- [Eddie] Yes.
6:38
- Great.
6:39
I hope y'all will try it, because it's incredible
6:44
and you don't even have to pull out a mixer, or anything,
6:47
to make that bread.
6:49
So good.
6:51
In fact, here it is, right here.
6:54
We'll put this loaf in the freezer for us
6:58
and that's what's left of one loaf,
7:02
we've eaten that much since last night.
7:05
All right, I'm gonna do our little emulsifying mixer again.
7:11
(electronic whisk whirring)
7:13
So, now we're just gonna stir in the rest.
7:15
Now...
7:19
How much?
7:23
I don't remember this not calling for flour,
7:27
that's how long it's been since I've made it.
7:29
So, I'll stop right there and give you all the ingredients.
7:35
Excuse me.
7:37
A fourth of a cup of raisins, which is always optional,
7:43
a half a cup of chocolate chips,
7:47
a half a cup of multicolored candies
7:52
and I think we all know what that is,
7:55
the multi-colored candies.
7:59
Where did I stop?
8:01
Oh, a stick of softened butter,
8:04
one 12 ounce jar of creamy peanut butter,
8:09
a half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
8:15
This is some of my homemade vanilla
8:18
and sometimes the top can get
8:23
kind of sugary and they're hard to open up,
8:27
but oh, it's so worth it, in fact,
8:29
I've got to make some more,
8:31
'cause it does take a couple of months
8:32
to make really good vanilla y'all.
8:35
All right, half a teaspoon of salt,
8:41
one cup of granulated sugar, which I've already put in.
8:45
- [Eddie] Yeah.
8:46
- It was a cup of granulated sugar
8:48
and one and a fourth cups of light brown sugar
8:52
and the three eggs and two teaspoons of baking soda.
8:58
(cat meowing)
8:59
What Pumpkin?
9:01
And four and a half cups
9:04
of not instant, quick-cooking oatmeal.
9:09
So, I'm just gonna stir all this together.
9:14
Oh, look how good that looks, Eddie.
9:18
And I think I'm gonna go ahead and stir in the raisins
9:26
and the chocolate chips,
9:27
so, I can get them mixed up good.
9:31
I'm not gonna add the M&M's yet, 'cause, oh oops,
9:34
I'm not going to add that multicolored chocolate yet.
9:39
I don't wanna crush 'em.
9:42
Okay, so here we go.
9:47
I'm gonna add about half of the oats.
9:54
So, the next half.
9:57
It's gonna get a little bit harder to stir,
9:59
but you don't wanna do this part with a mixer.
10:05
And I swear to Peter, I don't remember them not,
10:07
this recipe, not having flour.
10:15
But this almost makes them diet cookies, doesn't it Eddie?
10:18
(Eddie laughing)
10:20
- No flour- - Has oatmeal.
10:21
- Oatmeal, which is so good for you.
10:24
Peanut butter, that's so good for you.
10:28
Dark chocolate, which is good for you.
10:31
(Paula and Eddie laughing)
10:32
Ooh, that's my story and I'm sticking to it, y'all.
10:41
Really not that hard to stir together.
10:47
Okay, now I'm gonna kinda
10:51
gently mix in our multi-colored candies.
10:55
All right, I'm gonna give my hands a quick wash
10:59
and I'm gonna start
11:03
dipping this out onto the cookie sheet.
11:07
And I use these Silpats a lot,
11:12
I think they're so good to keep things from sticking,
11:18
although I do, I do give 'em a light spray,
11:22
you know, just in case, 'cause I'm paranoid.
11:25
(Paula laughing)
11:29
All right, so my instructions say...
11:36
Okay, it says drop by the tablespoon, two inches apart,
11:41
because they are gonna spread
11:46
and I'm going to do like a heaping tablespoon,
11:52
'cause these are "Monster Cookies".
11:55
Okay, I'm just gonna cook off one pan right now, y'all,
11:59
'cause I'm gonna make sure I don't have 'em too big.
12:01
So, these are going in the oven, preheated,
12:07
350 degrees for eight to 10 minutes.
12:16
Ooh, look at 'em,
12:17
I think the size is perfect, don't you?
12:19
- [Eddie] Uh-hm.
12:20
- Eddie, for a monster cookie?
12:21
- [Eddie] Yeah.
12:22
- Oh, it looks so good and it smells so good.
12:27
You can smell that peanut butter.
12:29
Now, I think I might've cook these
12:30
for about 11 minutes y'all
12:33
and the directions say, "eight to 10 minutes",
12:36
so, I mean that was kind of like right at 10.
12:40
So, I'm gonna let those cool a minute
12:42
and I'm gonna fill this tray up.
12:45
These look really, really good, y'all
12:47
and the size is right on the money,
12:51
because you wouldn't want a little tee-niny cookie
12:54
called a "Monster Cookie".
12:56
(Paula laughing)
12:57
It'll look like a little sissy cookie.
13:00
So, we want these to look like their namesake.
13:06
Now, these just came out of the oven,
13:07
so they're hot, hot, hot, but I do have some down here
13:11
that's cool enough for us to taste, don't we, Eddie?
13:15
- [Eddie] Yes.
13:17
- And this Silpat works so good,
13:23
not letting things stick.
13:27
I use the rest,
13:29
I had a little bit of dough left
13:31
and I did it like on a half pan,
13:35
which I didn't have a Silpat to fit that pan
13:38
and look, it stuck so bad, but that Silpat,
13:45
it won't let 'em stick.
13:46
Where is those cookies, Eddie?
13:47
- [Eddie] Oh, right there, on the back left corner.
13:49
- [Paula] Oh, right here.
13:50
- [Eddie] Yip.
13:53
- Yummy, let's look.
13:58
Okay Eddie, you get the biggest piece.
14:02
- Bon Appétit! - Bon Appétit!
14:06
- Um, dipped down in some milk, Eddie,
14:12
wouldn't that be good?
14:15
Our "Good For You Cookies".
14:18
(Paula laughing)
14:23
You buying what I'm selling, Eddie?
14:25
(Paula laughing)
14:26
- [Eddie] Good, I love peanut butter and oatmeal.
14:28
- The healthy, the healthy aspect.
14:31
(Paula and Eddie laughing)
14:33
Um, "Monster Cookies".
14:36
Make sure you put it in your files,
14:38
because your children will love it,
14:41
whether they're five or 50.
14:43
(Paula laughing)
