- Hey y'all Jamie Deen again, here at mama's kitchen.
0:04
I'm cooking out of Jimmy Deen's Good Food.
0:06
You know, I love this book.
0:08
You know, I love that young and right there,
0:10
and everybody that worked on this book,
0:12
I love the person helped me with the food person that shot
0:15
the pictures, the girl that the woman, not a girl,
0:18
the woman that I wrote it with her husband did illustrations
0:21
in it. This is a great book.
0:23
It's been out a long time. If you can find it,
0:25
I recommend you pick a copy up. It's fresh family recipes.
0:28
It's not diet, it's not fattening.
0:33
Real good food for real families, it's a great book.
0:36
Today I'm cooking something out of it that you don't really
0:38
make a lot, or maybe you do, salad dressing.
0:42
My mom has made salad dressing my whole life and she and my
0:45
daddy loved, but my daddy did not love it.
0:49
But my mamma did, so she made it,
0:50
she made blue cheese and then she made thousand islands
0:53
for my daddy. I grew up eating thousand island,
0:56
but I never did like blue cheese.
0:58
And so kind of a cousin of thousand island is French
1:02
dressing that I really love.
1:04
And I think a lot of picky eaters like French dressing too.
1:07
So we're going to do a homemade French dressing.
1:10
I've got several dressing recipes in this book and you'll
1:13
find that they are so easy to make. All you need is a,
1:17
like a jar with a lid on it. And that's it.
1:20
We're gonna put all the ingredients in here shake it up,
1:23
goes in the fridge. It stays good for four or five days.
1:26
And then you won't have a million bottles of who knows what
1:29
in your refrigerator. So if you love salad,
1:31
like I do try a fresh dressing.
1:34
It's got all the ingredients that you can pronounce,
1:37
except for Worcestershire sauce.
1:39
We got Worcestershire sauce in there. And so, you know,
1:42
it's fresh, you know,
1:43
it's good for your family and you'll really enjoy it.
1:46
So I have been asked by the powers above me, to list the
1:49
ingredients and the measurements for y'all.
1:52
So I will do that. And this is a laundry list.
1:54
So I'm gonna read it. Okay.
1:56
We've got my, might have to have Theresa hold this a moment.
2:00
We have a quarter of a cup of canola oil,
2:05
a quarter cup of ketchup, three tablespoons of sugar,
2:09
three tablespoons of white wine vinegar,
2:12
one tablespoon of mayonnaise, one tablespoon of water,
2:15
one teaspoon of paprika,
2:18
one teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce,
2:20
one teaspoon of Dijon mustard,
2:22
and then kosher salt and pepper to taste, which you know,
2:26
we always have laying around.
2:28
So that's it, we'll start with the oil.
2:36
We'll add our ketchup,
2:45
our white wine vinegar,
2:49
our Worcestershire sauce,
2:57
Dijon is an ingredient in a lot of delicious salad dressing
3:02
recipes. Our paprika.
3:08
You've got our mayonnaise.
3:29
I love making them in the jars cause it's so much easier to
3:32
blend it. And I got this,
3:34
found this jar at momma's house,
3:36
but if you've got like a normal size jar,
3:38
like a little ball jar or something, make your house,
3:41
it's perfect to make it in and store them.
3:44
I could have five times,
3:47
10 times this recipe for this big jug.
3:59
We're going to need a little salt.
4:01
I'm going to need a little black pepper in there.
4:09
- I just wanted you to shake again.
4:12
- It's a lot, a lot of shaking.
4:23
See how pretty that is, who doesn't love French dressing.
4:29
Got a little piece of bread here leftover.
4:31
I figured this would be a good way to test it.
4:38
Just like it was when I was a kid.
4:43
Might've had gone too big of a bite,
4:47
don't pause it, fast forward.
4:52
That's good food. This is French dressing.
4:54
I'm Jamie Deen. This is my mama's house.
4:57
Appreciate y'all tuning in.
4:58
We'll see you next time around the kitchen.
