I'm gonna be doing a couple of real short videos
0:05
where I wind up getting to the final recipe,
0:10
if that makes any sense.
0:13
For years at The Lady and Sons,
0:15
I served a pumpernickel sandwich
0:20
made with pumpernickel bread and grilled asparagus,
0:24
cheese, and purple onion.
0:26
And you would not believe how many of those sandwiches
0:31
got ordered over the years.
0:34
Well, I'm working with our GM tomorrow
0:36
and I think that's one of the recipes
0:39
that we're talking about putting back on our menu
0:42
because it was so popular.
0:44
So I'm gonna start by making
0:45
the homemade thousand island dressing
0:48
and I'm gonna start with the mayonnaise,
1:06
I'm just going to add the seasonings that I like.
1:10
And let's see. This is dill relish.
1:12
I'm gonna drain some of the juice off
1:17
'cause I don't want it watery.
1:23
So, you know, you can just eyeball this.
1:27
If you want more ketchup,
1:29
if you want it pinker, put more ketchup,
1:34
maybe a little less mayonnaise.
1:36
This makes a good bit of dressing, y'all.
1:45
I'm gonna sprinkle it with a little garlic powder.
1:51
Definitely some onion powder,
2:01
And remember that lemon pepper also has salt in it,
2:05
so don't be fooled by that.
2:08
And then I'm gonna add some silly salt.
2:14
And lastly I'm gonna add some dried parsley
2:20
just to kind of pick it up,
2:24
just pick up that coloring.
2:26
And the last thing I'm going to put in it is my boiled eggs.
2:35
I do like boiled eggs in my Italian dressing.
2:39
So let me can see if I can find what I'm looking for.
2:46
I like a little bit more relish, y'all,
2:51
than what the recipe calls for.
2:54
So that gives it a nice little twang.
3:02
Let me see if that's enough.
3:06
You can put as much as you want in it.
3:09
Now, the last thing I'm gonna put in
3:14
is our deviled eggs, our boiled eggs.
3:18
(laughing) Sorry, I'm crazy.
3:19
And Eddie just told me that I said I like to put what?
3:26
- [Eddie] Eggs in your Italian dressing.
3:29
- In my Italian dressing.
3:31
This is not Italian dressing, y'all. It's thousand island.
3:35
My little brain gets ahead of my mouth
3:41
or my mouth gets ahead of my mind.
3:44
Right? I'm sure that doesn't happen to y'all, does it?
3:53
- [Theresa] I'm not even answering that one.
3:55
- And listen, I'm not even going to ask Eddie,
3:58
'cause it don't happen to him.
4:03
I like this chopped up, you know, pretty fine up.
4:07
But by running it through my slicer first,
4:11
it just helps give me a head start.
4:24
You know, I love homemade Italian. (laughs)
4:28
- [Eddie] You sure you don't wanna make
4:30
Italian dressing today?
4:32
- I think I just wanna make some Italian dressing, y'all.
4:34
I just love thousand island dressing,
4:37
but only if it's homemade, y'all.
4:41
I'm not crazy about store-bought.
4:45
So this is so easy to make.
4:52
My mama used to make this
4:55
and she would give us a wedge salad--
4:59
- Mm-hmm. - Using iceberg lettuce.
5:03
And put it on our plate just with Italian dressing.
5:08
- Mine did-- - Your mama did too.
5:21
So I'm gonna add a little bit more onion powder.
5:24
Those two said it didn't need a thing,
5:27
but like Theresa said, it just kills me not to add some,
5:34
so a little bit more silly salt.
5:35
And I think that will take it where I want it.
5:43
And you actually, if you didn't have any onion powder,
5:47
you could actually, you know, chop up some onion very fine.
5:50
And it would be delicious in here.
5:59
So if you're a hot person,
6:02
you could even put some diced-up pickled jalapenos in it
6:09
All depends on your taste. So this is the recipe.
6:15
It's going to start us on our way
6:19
to that delicious asparagus sandwich on pumpernickel.
6:27
