(engine rumbles)
0:09
- You ready?
0:10
Ready Eddie?
0:11
(engine rumbles)
0:18
Well, Eddie and I are outside today.
0:22
It's only supposed to be in the eighties today
0:23
so we got a little reprieve from real bad heat.
0:26
Don't we, Eddie?
0:27
- [Eddie] Yeah, the rain kinda cooled us off a little bit.
0:29
- Yes, but it's supposed to do the same thing
0:31
again this afternoon, it's supposed to,
0:34
the bottom's supposed to fall out.
0:35
So Eddie has been out gathering up plants.
0:40
So it's working out perfectly.
0:42
If we can get 'em in the ground
0:43
and then the rains come, you know.
0:45
So I've been wanting to show y'all
0:49
we've almost finished all of our projects.
0:53
I still got a few more that I don't have quite right
0:56
in my mind yet, as far as how I want to do it.
1:00
But I tell you these guys,
1:04
and I believe in giving kudos
1:06
to people that take their job seriously
1:10
and work hard and really try to please their customer.
1:14
And there's a couple of guys at ATA Landscaping
1:20
and it's Todd and Allen, and they've done all
1:23
the landscaping in the yard and it looks beautiful,
1:27
beautiful, beautiful.
1:29
And hopefully we got a lot of perennials, I hope Eddie.
1:32
So they'll just keep coming back and coming back
1:35
and filling in.
1:36
- [Eddie] Yeah, most of them are.
1:38
- And I want y'all to take a look at that beautiful pool.
1:42
Ira, I met this young man, his name is IRA
1:46
and he's with Aqua Blue Pools.
1:49
And he did a fabulous job on this pool.
1:54
I think it's beautiful.
1:55
And they helped me go through things
1:58
and try to keep things at a minimum cost, which is,
2:04
it ain't my first rodeo.
2:06
So I don't wanna spend a bloody fortune, but
2:12
and Mike Small, if you live anywhere near Savannah
2:15
and you're looking for a landscape architect
2:19
Mike Small is very, very good.
2:21
He laid all this out.
2:23
And so we kind of just go
2:28
by his drawings.
2:30
So I have to tell you, Eddie has done an incredible job.
2:36
There's nothing that he can't do.
2:38
In fact, I can't wait to take y'all into my bathroom.
2:42
There was this wallpaper I wanted so bad y'all
2:45
and Eddie came to me and he said,
2:47
"Paula that wallpaper's a thousand dollars a roll."
2:51
I said, "well, you just get the hell outta here.
2:55
"I can't afford that."
2:57
He said, "I know, who can?"
2:59
But he said "Here's our other option,
3:03
"I can paint that wallpaper on your walls."
3:07
So he got started, can't wait to show y'all,
3:10
can't hardly wait.
3:13
So you ready to get out, Lu?
3:16
We finally got our gates y'all
3:19
so I don't have to worry now about the dogs.
3:22
We can let them out
3:24
and I don't think they can get out.
3:29
So far so good.
3:31
And Lulu loves to get outside this fence.
3:34
Doesn't she, Eddie?
3:35
- [Eddie] She does, I don't know what's out here
3:36
that she wants to go see, but--
3:38
- You know me either
3:39
but she'd rather be outside this fence than anywhere else.
3:45
So I just love our entrances and our exits, Eddie.
3:51
I think it's so beautiful.
3:53
And we decided to, you know, use just a minimum amount
3:57
of brick because brick is expensive
4:02
and brick layers, they get a pretty good fee
4:07
for their craft.
4:08
So just a minimum of brick here with our iron gates.
4:13
But I want y'all to notice,
4:15
Eddie and I was at Seventh Heaven a few months back.
4:21
And Joe, let us go out into this big,
4:26
what would you call a garage or--
4:28
- [Eddie] His stash.
4:28
- Yeah, his stash. (laughs)
4:32
And he told us "go, y'all go back there and look."
4:35
And Eddie and I went back there and what did Eddie spot?
4:41
He spotted these four seasons
4:46
statues and they're beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
4:51
Fall, winter, spring, and summer.
4:54
So we got one, two, three, four.
4:58
I think the other one's up here, isn't Eddie?
5:00
Yeah. Yeah.
5:04
It's over here and I think we did a good day's work, Eddie.
5:09
- [Eddie] Those were. - When you spotted those.
5:11
- [Eddie] Yeah. - [Paula] So stately looking
5:12
aren't they?
5:13
- [Eddie] Those were a great find.
5:14
- [Paula] Yeah.
5:18
And I feel like we got a good price.
5:22
I feel like Joe gave us a good price.
5:23
Don't you?
5:24
- [Eddie] Oh yeah.
5:25
Joe, Joe actually has some great prices at his place.
5:29
- I think he does too.
5:30
In fact, I'm hankering to go see Joe. (laughs)
5:35
I might need a Joe Seventh Heaven fix. (laughs)
5:39
All right, Lu, get back up here.
5:41
- [Eddie] Come on, Lu.
5:43
- Y'all this orange tree right here bears oranges
5:46
like you would not believe.
5:49
(Eddie whistles)
5:49
Look, it's already got, come on Lu.
5:52
Lulu get up here.
5:56
Come on, come on. Go, go.
6:00
(Eddie laughs)
6:04
So I love hydrangeas y'all
6:08
and I love monkey grass.
6:11
I especially like this form of monkey grass
6:15
which I have no idea what it is either.
6:16
- [Eddie] It's called Liriope.
6:18
- [Paula] Liriope, well, I like it.
6:21
It's not like that cheap looking monkey grass.
6:24
Do you know what I'm talking about? (laughs)
6:26
- [Eddie] Yeah, there's--
6:27
- To me it's just cheap looking monkey grass
6:31
but this looks just real sturdy.
6:38
And look at that tree right there.
6:40
We, when we were cleaning the property,
6:46
you know I walked out here and I did not realize
6:51
because there was so much around this particular tree
6:55
and it's a palm tree.
6:59
It's a
7:01
- [Eddie] Well, it had, it's like a Sago.
7:04
- [Paula] Yeah, it's a Sago Palm.
7:06
- [Eddie] It had so much growth around it.
7:08
It was really--
7:09
- We couldn't see it.
7:11
And when we got everything cleaned out around it
7:15
I don't like Sago palms
7:16
but I adore that particular palm right there.
7:20
It's so beautiful.
7:21
I've never seen one get to be that big,
7:23
have you Eddie?
7:24
- [Eddie] No, no.
7:25
- Never, never.
7:27
And you have to be careful
7:29
with Sago palms around your animals
7:32
because there is a male Sago and there's a female Sago
7:38
and the female Sagos
7:43
produce a sweet orange berry
7:46
almost like the size of a plum.
7:49
And they're very poisonous to dogs, very poisonous.
7:54
And they appeal to the dogs
7:56
because they're sweet and they just taste good.
7:59
So if you have Sago palms in your yard
8:03
and you see these orange fruits
8:06
just know that it could really hurt your animals.
8:12
But I love hydrangeas y'all.
8:16
I just think hydrangeas are beautiful.
8:19
And when they start getting crispy and crunchy,
8:24
you can cut 'em like around 7:00 AM in the morning
8:28
before eight o'clock and just let 'em dry out
8:31
and they're beautiful.
8:32
We put 'em all through the Christmas tree
8:35
at Christmas time and on the mantle,
8:37
just everywhere you can find a spot.
8:42
So beautiful.
8:45
And when I lived on
8:50
Abercorn street downtown
8:52
in my little pre-Civil war house
8:55
out in the side garden, there was a tree
8:59
and it was the most beautiful tree I've ever seen.
9:03
And in February it bloomed
9:06
and it was like a school bus yellow.
9:09
And it was the same color as the doors on my house.
9:13
And I never knew the name of it,
9:16
but I got Todd and Allen and and Mike
9:21
to figure out what the name of that tree was.
9:26
So we put three on this property.
9:28
So hopefully one day it'll be big enough
9:31
to just be like school bus yellow.
9:34
- [Eddie] I think what is it? Caspian?
9:37
I think that's--
9:38
- Cassia?
9:39
- [Eddie] Cassia, yes, Cassia.
9:40
- Yeah, it's amazing how nobody knew what it was, you know?
9:46
And we've got our, our,
9:51
what kind of roses are those?
9:52
I know it just as well.
9:56
- [Eddie] These are the, is it ever bloom?
9:59
- No. What kind are they called?
10:02
- [Eddie] Knockouts. - Knockouts.
10:04
Knockout roses.
10:06
And these are butterfly plants, y'all
10:09
and the butterflies love these.
10:12
And sometimes I'll come out
10:14
and see some big old Monarch butterflies
10:18
getting them some sweet juice from the flowers.
10:25
Look at this butterfly plant right here, Eddie.
10:28
- [Eddie] Yeah, this one is kind of going by a little bit.
10:32
It was all purple about three weeks ago.
10:36
- Yeah, it was and it was beautiful.
10:39
That's a Japanese Magnolia right there
10:43
and it too is a winter blooming plant
10:47
and so we'll have something to look forward to
10:49
in the winter, along with all the citruses
10:54
all of those are Meyer lemon,
10:57
orange, tangerine, and grapefruit.
11:03
Love, love, love.
11:05
What is that pink bush back there?
11:06
I can't see that far away, Eddie.
11:08
- [Eddie] That's the crepe myrtle.
11:10
- Oh it is.
11:11
(Eddie chuckles)
11:15
I love crepe myrtles.
11:16
We, Todd and Allen just planted six crepe myrtles
11:21
coming into the driveway for us.
11:23
And I love the white.
11:25
I love the white crepe myrtles.
11:27
Now these are both, one is a lavender
11:32
up here and one is a peach, right?
11:34
- [Eddie] Yep.
11:35
- And there might even be a white one stuffed in there.
11:39
I see something white up there.
11:41
It is Eddie. - Yeah,
11:42
yeah that's in the neighbor's yard.
11:44
- Yeah. And what, okay.
11:50
Look, see, the trees are already loaded.
11:56
I'm not so crazy about this kind of grass.
11:59
Are you, Eddie?
12:02
- [Eddie] I mean, I think it's pretty
12:03
when you do have a lot of it.
12:05
- [Paula] Yeah.
12:07
- [Eddie] I think they'll get bigger.
12:08
I like it when it starts starting purple.
12:09
- Yeah.
12:12
Now look, these are liking the sun down here.
12:18
And I said, I wasn't putting azaleas in this yard
12:22
and you know, it's just not a Southern yard
12:24
without a few azaleas is it?
12:27
So Eddie and I broke down and realized that
12:30
we were gonna have to put a few in.
12:35
And those will be all white, too.
12:38
Won't they?
12:38
And aren't they the double bloom, Eddie?
12:42
- [Eddie] Yes, these are no,
12:43
these are the traditional--
12:45
- Oh, they are?
12:47
- [Eddie] You know, they'll just bloom in the spring.
12:50
Now the ones you did in the center over there
12:52
are the double bloom mixed in with the roses.
12:55
- Yeah, look at all the fruit on the ground
12:59
over here, Eddie.
13:00
- [Eddie] Yeah, those are grapefruits
13:02
that did not get picked. (laughs)
13:06
- Jamie came out here the other day.
13:09
He was fixing some kind of drink
13:12
and he said, "Momma, you got any grapefruit?"
13:15
And I said, "well, out on the tree."
13:18
So he came out here and got him some grapefruit.
13:29
Eddie, I don't believe there's anything wrong with this one.
13:32
I'm so proud of the way Michael's garages turned out.
13:37
He was going to build one huge garage
13:41
which I was not happy about.
13:43
I didn't think it was necessary.
13:46
And (laughs) some of the neighbors spoke up
13:50
and they didn't like the idea either.
13:52
So Michael found out that
13:57
he doesn't need anybody's approval
14:00
to build a building under 900 square feet.
14:05
So he wound up building three buildings
14:08
and I think it looks incredible, just incredible.
14:13
I think it would've looked real strange
14:15
if he had had a one garage bigger than a house.
14:18
Don't y'all, don't you Eddie?
14:21
- [Eddie] Yeah, yeah this is much better.
14:22
- So he's got some neighbors to thank
14:27
for this looking so good.
14:29
Come on, Lu, let's go.
14:32
Y'all these stones are from another walkway
14:35
that we had in the backyard
14:38
when we first built this house in 2004,
14:42
2003 and 2004.
14:45
And so we were able to use these and bring 'em up here
14:48
and I just love them.
14:49
I love the different shapes
14:52
and just they're so pretty snuggled in
14:55
among the pretty green grass.
15:01
And I love this swimming pool.
15:08
I love it so much.
15:10
We had them put in...
15:16
- [Eddie] A swim against jet.
15:18
- Yes, a jet that is very powerful.
15:21
Michael stood in front of it yesterday,
15:22
day before yesterday when we were in it Eddie
15:25
and it almost took his swimsuit down. (laughs)
15:30
And I mean, it's powerful.
15:33
And of course we got the little sunning deck
15:35
for the young children that will be,
15:38
'cause we've got four, five,
15:44
five under four.
15:47
Yeah, so that'll keep them safe there.
15:51
And the next project that I want to do,
15:54
and then I feel like I can take a breath
15:56
and say, "okay, I'm finished."
15:58
I want to build some kind of arbor over there
16:04
so that we could have tables and chairs
16:08
because this pool is probably perfect for a swimming pool.
16:14
There is no shade.
16:17
And most people when there in the pool
16:19
they wanna be out in the sun.
16:21
So I've just got to figure that out.
16:23
If any of y'all have any good ideas,
16:26
please share 'em with us.
16:32
I think it would be real pretty.
16:33
Like I said, I have it in my head, but it's just not,
16:39
it's just not knocking me over the head yet.
16:42
You know what I mean?
16:43
And these days, things have to knock me,
16:45
slap over in my head.
16:48
I love the elephant ears we went with, Eddie.
16:52
Back here I kind of wanted a tropical look
16:57
to kind of go with the pool.
17:05
And we've put in, I love the variegated ginger.
17:10
Hopefully it'll like it back here, Eddie.
17:13
And the Bird of Paradise,
17:18
look at this Eddie, it's blooming.
17:20
- [Eddie] Yeah.
17:22
- Look at that beautiful Bird of Paradise.
17:28
That one's already come and gone.
17:31
That's lady bird's colors, isn't it?
17:33
- [Eddie] Yes.
17:38
- And I put in a diving board and Michael said
17:40
"that is a piece of crap diving board."
17:45
And I said, "I know, but they got rules, you know?"
17:47
- [Eddie] Well, you know, it's funny
17:49
because you know, when you said you wanted to do
17:51
a diving board Ira thought you were crazy.
17:54
- He thought I had lost my mind.
17:56
- [Eddie] Nobody does diving boards.
17:57
He said that.
17:58
- They don't, they don't.
18:00
He said he had only the whole time
18:02
he's been in the pool business, only three,
18:04
he's only installed three.
18:07
Well, count me up as Dodo number four. (laughs)
18:12
Look how pretty this is back here, Eddie.
18:15
I just think it's just beautiful.
18:22
I sure would hate to have to cut down that Magnolia tree,
18:24
but I don't know what else to do.
18:29
what I would like to come off of there for a shelter.
18:37
If y'all got any ideas, please help us.
18:40
(laughs)
18:42
I think it's fixing to start raining, Eddie.
18:44
- [Eddie] All right, let's go cook.
18:46
- [Paula] Okay.
18:50
Okay, baby.
