0:01
I'm fixing to make us a nice fall chopped salad.
0:06
Michael loves chopped salad
0:09
and I think the reason he likes a chopped salad so much
0:12
is 'cause that lettuce is cut up
0:15
and he doesn't have to cut it up himself would be my guess.
0:19
But what do I know? (laughs)
0:23
So I've got a lot of ingredients
0:27
and because it's a fall salad
0:31
got a lot of fall flavors going on.
0:33
So I'm gonna start by making our dressing.
0:37
And we're gonna do that
0:41
by mixing our mayonnaise.
1:04
All right, now to finish our dressing for our fall salad.
1:08
I've got our mayonnaise, our buttermilk.
1:12
Now I'm adding Parmesan cheese.
1:29
I'm adding two teaspoons of champagne vinegarette.
1:38
Mm, it smells so good.
1:43
Well there went our two teaspoons (laughs) with one pour.
1:48
And we're gonna add two tablespoons of chopped sage.
2:04
Now the recipe tells you
2:07
to pour your dressing over your chopped salad
2:11
but I don't recommend that
2:14
unless you're gonna be sitting down and eating
2:18
as soon as you pour that dressing on top.
2:21
So I'm gonna put my salad dressing in a separate bowl
2:29
and let everybody dress their salad as we sit down to eat.
2:34
Like I said, it's a lot of ingredients.
2:39
Now I'm using two different kinds of lettuces.
2:45
I'm using an iceberg.
2:50
Get out of there! (laughs)
2:55
And I'm gonna chop this.
3:02
And I'm gonna bring my bowl back over here.
3:06
I picked this bowl out from my jewelry store here.
3:10
When Michael and I married, I registered for this bowl.
3:14
I thought it was so pretty.
3:16
I just loved all the colors.
3:18
Uh uh, it's still warm.
3:21
Alright, so I'm gonna go ahead
3:22
and put my lettuce in my bowl.
3:31
Another little brown piece.
3:45
take me some paper towels
3:49
and kind of take the dampness off of our lettuce.
3:56
Now our next lettuce is our romaine.
4:07
Like I said, I'm looking for little brown pieces.
4:13
And chop it just like we did our iceberg.
4:20
I like using the two different kinds of lettuce
4:23
because you're gonna get more, brighter green
4:28
from using two different types of lettuces.
4:36
From the romaine, you're gonna get a brighter green
4:44
and I just love the colors.
4:58
Right, now I'm gonna add our chopped cucumbers.
5:03
And that is a seedless cucumber that I used.
5:21
Jicama is a root vegetable
5:24
and it kind of reminds me...
5:31
Kind of bites like sugar cane in your mouth.
5:35
As a child I was given a lot of sugar cane to chew on
5:39
and I'm sure that sugar just revved me up (laughs)
5:44
for my grandmama, my mama
5:46
and my Aunt Peggy to have to deal with.
5:50
But this is real good.
5:51
It doesn't have a whole lot of taste it.
5:54
Like I said, it's a root vegetable.
5:57
So I'm gonna add that
5:59
and that crunch is gonna make it so good.
6:04
And now I'm gonna add our chopped apples.
6:12
See, this is what I'm saying about
6:14
our salad is really meaty.
6:20
Beautiful fall salad.
6:25
And an ingredient that I just truly love in salads
6:32
is the dried cranberries.
6:35
It gives it a little bite of sweet to your salad.
6:47
And last but not least, some toasted pecans.
7:03
I'm swallowing hard, y'all.
7:05
Okay, I just added a few croutons to the top
7:14
to just give it a little bit more crunch.
7:19
Now you can imagine if I had mixed this dressing
7:24
you would have to eat it all up at the time you dressed it.
7:30
Or otherwise it would lose its body.
7:39
I dunno about these two, but I wanna dig in
7:45
because I have fooled around and gotten hungry.
7:49
Ooh, I got some jicama.
8:01
And some cranberries.
8:16
I think this is a wonderful fall salad and
8:24
you can really make any kind of dressing
8:25
you want to go on top of it.
8:31
It doesn't necessarily have to be this one.
8:34
So make it the way your tongue likes it.
8:45
All right, come on gang.
8:50
