Hey everybody, Bobby Dean here and I've got another great simple recipe for you that I think everyone's going to like
0:07
And it starts with good fresh okra where at that time of year, everybody's gardens are popping, I'm sure
0:15
And so is mine with basil and with peppers and with all sorts of different things
0:22
But we're going to cut and scoop out okras and stuff them is what this recipe is going to be
0:31
So I'm going to show you how to do one. I've already got some ready. It's pretty simple
0:38
Might not be the best angle for you, Teresa. I'm sorry. I'm just going to slice that okra open
0:43
There you go. And there are seeds and a little meat on the inside
0:47
And we'll just pull that out. And I'll put it right here on this piece of paper
0:52
Let me use a spoon. We'll just scoop that stuff out. It looks like a jalapeno on the inside
1:04
And if you don't like okra, this recipe might not be for you, but I do
1:12
And there is a sort of a surprise twist to the recipe that I think you're going to like
1:18
I know I am. something that I hadn't seen really or done before now with this recipe
1:25
So there we go. That's what it looks like. I didn't quite get all the seeds out. Really kind of scoop it out real well
1:33
There we go. Okay, next in the recipe, we are going to combine a cheese
1:41
This is goat cheese which I like and this is going to lend itself very well to these flavors basil and bacon Bacon what are you going to do with that bacon Bob Well let me show you
1:53
We're going to combine with our goat cheese, a little salt, pepper, some lemon zest, which is
2:02
wonderful. That will lend itself nicely to the goat cheese. And I'm just going to kind of cut
2:09
this stuff in together with a fork. My goat cheese is soft, okay? And that's an important tip
2:16
I wouldn't pull it hard out of the refrigerator and try to do this. Make sure that it's sat on
2:21
the counter and softened a little bit. I'm just going to combine salt, pepper, lemon zest. Make
2:28
sure that's cut in well. It is. That was easy. I'm going to take some of my fresh basil. You could
2:35
Use a knife and cut it if you'd like, or you can just rip it. I'm just going to rip off into some small pieces
2:43
I don't know how your garden's doing, but I have got fresh Thai basil
2:48
Oh, that smells so good. Why don't you start ripping the basil leaves? My hands are going to smell like basil for the rest of the day
2:54
but that's okay because it's such a great smell. My garden is popping with Thai basil right now
3:03
and I've got beautiful mild red and orange peppers coming up and everything else we've
3:12
sort of pulled and used. Gosh, we had a cucumber harvest this year like you wouldn't believe
3:17
but I'm enjoying having some herbs out in my garden. Okay, so I'm going to add in
3:24
the basil and just cut it in with a fork. I want to make sure that that salt and pepper
3:29
and lemon zest gets fully combined with the goat cheese And that looks really nice
3:43
Now, we've done in the past, our family, we've done bacon-wrapped pretzels
3:52
What else have we wrapped in bacon? I don't know, many things, but never have we wrapped okra
3:58
But today, that's exactly what we're going to do. We're going to take a little bit of our goat cheese mixture, put it in our okra boat, which is definitely what this is, is an okra boat
4:17
I'm going to try to make it even and uniform, make sure it's all throughout
4:22
out. Now, if goat cheese is not your bag, you could use a different soft white cheese
4:31
Like my mom always says, go by the recipe exactly the first time. And then after that
4:36
make it your own, do whatever you like. Okay. And now I'm just going to wrap that. Oh gosh
4:43
Look at that. Uh-oh. And I dropped it, of course. Now I've got to clean my counter
4:51
So look at that. Oh, boy. I think that's going to be yummy and tasty all the way through
4:59
So we'll do a couple and get them on our pan. And then we'll take a break
5:04
Let you take a little break. And then we'll come back together and get them out of the oven after I've finished them
5:13
Okra boat not every day that you use the word okra boat Bacon wrapped okra these look fantastic Now some flavors that go really well together okra basil goat cheese and bacon these are going to be a home run and speaking of home run this is a
5:35
perfect hors d'oeuvre that you might enjoy while you're watching your atlanta braves win the
5:39
division. This is great when you have guests over. All kinds of fun. Handle food. It's an okra boat
5:48
I want you to be my okra boat. I want you to be my love. Isn't that how the song goes
5:55
Okay, so these go into the oven, 400, for about 20 minutes. And we'll take a peek
6:01
Oh. Wow. Okra boats, stuffed with goat cheese. and they are stuffed with, the goat cheese is mixed with a little salt, pepper, and lemon zest
6:15
and a little bit of basil. These look and smell phenomenal. Of course they do because there's
6:21
bacon wrapped around them. And as entertaining as it might be to watch me take a bite of this
6:25
right now, I'm going to wait because this is rocket hot. But gosh, is it pretty? Makes for
6:33
a great hors d'oeuvre, great finger food. So when you've got some guests coming over
6:37
These are perfect. It's a great fall hors d'oeuvre. And I guess I'll have to let you know how they taste next time
6:44
So this is too hot right now. But thanks for joining me. I hope you like them. And I'll see you next time
6:53
