- Yeah, it's Jamie Deen.
0:01
Welcome back to the Chicken Box.
0:02
Today I am sharing a new recipe with you
0:04
that Theresa has pulled out
0:06
and it is a real blast from the past.
0:08
I haven't had an ambrosia salad since I was a kid
0:12
and every Christmas, somebody in my family,
0:15
whether it was my granny Paul
0:17
or great grade or my mother,
0:19
somebody would have ambrosia on the table.
0:21
Today we're gonna make one and it's got,
0:23
I told Theresa out, I'm not familiar with the ambrosia
0:26
that uses heavy cream and sugar and then Greek yogurt.
0:30
So the first thing we're gonna do
0:31
is work with our heavy cream and sugar.
0:34
I'm telling you, if you have an opportunity
0:37
to cool your bowl off before you get started,
0:39
I just pulled this one out of the fridge,
0:41
a cold bowl makes it easier.
0:43
So we've got our cup of heavy whipping cream,
0:46
and I have a third three tablespoons
0:50
of confectioners' sugar there.
0:52
Now I told Theresa, "This is gonna take me a minute,"
0:54
'cause this is the only hand mixer I have here,
0:59
it's not the first time I've done it,
1:00
maybe it'll be the last.
1:02
I'll see ya in about two minutes.
1:06
I don't know if I made it to soft peaks
1:08
but it's close enough and so to this,
1:11
I'm gonna add half a cup of Greek yogurt.
1:17
That's about a half a cup.
1:18
Now I'm gonna just fold this in.
1:27
So Theresa, the Chicken Box is a lot of things,
1:32
but some of the things that she needs,
1:34
I don't have down here.
1:36
Fancy equipment like blenders and--
1:39
- [Theresa] I'm gonna buy an SOS kit for down here.
1:43
- [Jamie] Well, it better be a big one.
1:46
All right y'all, now all we have to do
1:49
is dump everything into this.
1:53
I'm gonna save the marshmallows.
1:58
God, just dump the whole thing into my thing.
2:01
We have mandarin oranges.
2:05
Can't make it without cherries.
2:15
and then the marshmallows.
2:20
That looks like something, doesn't it?
2:21
Dreamed up by a child.
2:26
- [Theresa] I love this. All of it now.
2:28
- [Jamie] If you are, I don't know, you know what?
2:31
I only speak for the South,
2:32
'cause that's the only place I've ever been from,
2:35
but if you were of and from the South,
2:37
you have had ambrosia salad.
2:40
Of course you have. - Sundays dinners.
2:42
- [Jamie] Fruit and marshmallows.
2:43
Who wouldn't eat that as a salad?
2:48
It really brings me back.
2:51
I don't want to overwork it.
2:56
Let's see if I can prof enough in here
2:58
and make it look, wow, that's pretty.
3:09
Cherry right there on top.
3:19
- [Theresa] Jellyroll's telling us it looks good.
3:21
- I know you've had ambrosia before, haven't you?
3:22
- No. - Here you try.
3:24
- [Theresa] Come on, right there.
3:25
You like coconut-- - You like coconut,
3:27
marshmallows, cherries, oranges, nuts.
3:34
I know you gonna love it.
3:34
All it is is a fruit salad.
3:36
- Yeah. - What do you think?
3:37
- It's good. - All right, I'ma try.
3:45
That's good, ain't it?
3:49
