hey i'm jamie dean today with some tips
0:08
on how to take care of your cast iron
0:10
this is my grandmama's pot i've had it
0:12
since i was a kid i love it's one of my
0:14
most
0:14
prized possessions gotta have some
0:17
tricks to take care of it though i've
0:18
got my
0:19
mother's corn muffin pan here i used to
0:22
eat
0:22
corn muffins out of here you see they're
0:24
shaped in like little pieces of corn
0:27
my whole life growing up i this is
0:30
seriously since i was five six years old
0:33
i've eaten corn muffins out of this pan
0:35
now to take care of this i've got some
0:37
stuff that's baked on here
0:38
i'm gonna put it on the stovetop and i'm
0:40
gonna cook it full of water
0:42
and i'm just going to let it simmer a
0:44
little while and release
0:46
those kernels down there that's a really
0:48
detailed work and you find that on a lot
0:49
of cast iron
0:50
you want to let that water really cook
0:52
up that food stuff
0:54
for my granny's big skillet what i'm
0:56
going to do
0:57
never put soap on these you're going to
0:59
make sure that they're clean
1:01
and dry with just a little sheen
1:04
of vegetable oil if you've been doing
1:07
some other things and haven't used your
1:08
cast iron in a while you're going to
1:09
want to re-season this and it's as
1:11
simple as this
1:12
we're just going to add a little bit of
1:13
vegetable oil into our
1:16
pan make sure that it's
1:19
all nice and coated
1:32
that's flavor that's why you don't use
1:34
soap on these
1:35
i'm going to put it into the oven at 350
1:38
degrees for about an
1:38
hour
1:42
we're gonna cook it out and that's what
1:45
seals it up
1:46
it's crazy i know that's where the
1:47
flavor comes from in a cast iron
