- Hey y'all you know, for about a week now
0:03
I've really been obsessing about gifts that come
0:06
from your heart and from your kitchen.
0:09
Well, I showed y'all compound butters, savory and sweet
0:15
and now I'm going to share with y'all some different sugars.
0:19
And this is in my newest magazine.
0:24
Don't you love that cookie Christmas tree.
0:26
That's so pretty to me, but there's a section
0:32
in here towards the back of gifts from your kitchen.
0:36
Well, I'm going to share
0:38
with y'all some ideas for gifting sugars.
0:43
And the first one I'm going to do is cause it
0:45
takes a little bit longer to make I'm going to
0:47
do a lemon sugar, and it calls for one cup of sugar
0:52
the zest of two large lemons
0:55
and one drop at a time of yellow food coloring.
1:01
So I've got my cup of sugar and I've got my zest
1:09
from two lemons and I want to get every drop
1:20
'cause this would be really, really good in some hot tea.
1:26
And I know like my Aunt Peaky
1:29
she doesn't drink coffee anymore.
1:31
She drinks tea every morning.
1:36
So I'm just going to stir that zest up in there.
1:40
And then I'm going to add my food coloring because I think
1:45
if we make it yellow, it will really be pretty.
1:54
Alright, it's working a little bit yet.
1:59
It just takes it a minute to work that all in.
2:07
And I'm thinking about one more drop,
2:12
what do you think Eddie?
2:14
- [Eddie] I'd say you have a little bit of white left.
2:17
- Yep so let's do one more little, oops.
2:21
I'll probably never be able to find that lid.
2:30
I mean, you have to get it incorporated in don't you.
2:35
(scraping)
2:43
I think that little bit of food coloring
2:44
makes it so pretty.
2:48
All right, because there was moisture in our zest
2:52
and there's moisture in the food coloring,
2:55
we're going to need to dry this out in the oven.
2:59
(scraping)
3:06
So my instructions to you are
3:11
to use parchment paper
3:18
but I'm just using a sil pat you know
3:24
like you use for baking cookies so they won't stick.
3:29
All right.
3:30
Now I have got our oven preheated
3:33
to 200 degrees y'all and I'm going to put it in, leave it
3:37
in the oven for 10 minutes and that should dry it out.
3:41
And then we're going to store it into the
3:44
our gift giving containers.
3:46
And it's just that easy.
3:54
200 degrees.
3:59
Okay for 10 minutes.
4:04
All right.
4:05
The next sugar I'm going to make for y'all the
4:09
one we featured in the magazine is Chai spiced sugar.
4:15
Now my Aunt Peggy, I know
4:17
would love this or she like both of them.
4:19
So this would be a great gift for her because
4:22
at 91 years old, she's got everything she wants or needs.
4:27
So I think these teas would be a great gift for her.
4:34
All right.
4:35
So I've got one cup of sugar, one teaspoon
4:38
of ground cardamom, oops,
4:47
one teaspoon of apple pie spice
4:55
a half a teaspoon of ground cloves that was cloves I think.
5:02
And a fourth of a teaspoon of ginger.
5:07
Okay so that was one cup of sugar, one teaspoon
5:10
of ground cardamon, one teaspoon of apple pie spice
5:15
a half a teaspoon of ground cloves
5:18
and a fourth of a teaspoon of ground ginger.
5:21
And all we have to do is put this
5:23
in a bowl and stir it together, cover
5:26
and let it stand for at least one week before using.
5:29
So you've got plenty
5:31
of time to make these sugars and store it
5:35
in an airtight container for up to three months.
5:40
So what a wonderful gift, so easy,
5:50
but such a thoughtful gift
5:53
for somebody that loves their tea.
5:56
In fact, you could buy a nice box
6:01
of tea and give along with your sugar.
6:08
So there you go.
6:11
These jars are really a little bit too small
6:21
because you know, my small jars don't hold much.
6:28
See, I can almost get two jars out of this.
6:33
- [Eddie] That would be a good gift
6:35
if you're giving some teabags--
6:37
- Teabags, yes, go buy them a special tea.
6:44
I think that's wonderful.
6:45
So I could get two out of this Eddie
6:50
but I only have two jars as an example.
6:54
And we put our little tickets to and
6:58
from on top and then we're going to tie them
7:02
up with ribbon and we're going to give them to our friends.
7:07
Here's one and Eddie's already gotten our ribbon cut.
7:17
Come on, man.
7:18
You work with me, baby.
7:23
I don't know
7:24
if you saw the last video when we were making butters
7:29
but Eddie was helping me or I was helping Eddie.
7:32
I don't know who was helping who.
7:37
Eddie can you put your finger right there please?
7:39
And still, all right, wait, it got a little loose from me.
7:44
Okay push it tight.
7:49
Hold it tight.
8:01
So I would highly, highly recommend y'all getting some wire
8:09
some ribbon that has wire on the sides that makes life
8:14
so much easier doesn't it Eddie?
8:16
- [Eddie] Yes.
8:17
Or a hot glue gun, whichever. (laughs)
8:21
- I don't think this ribbon
8:23
I don't think it's supposed to curl, you reckon.
8:31
There we go.
8:32
I think I was trying to curl the wrong side
8:38
because it does have a right and a wrong side to it.
8:50
Okay and I'll tell you what else helps a lot is tape
8:55
but we don't have any tape either
8:57
nor a glue gun nor nothing here that we need. (laughs)
9:03
- [Eddie] Next year.
9:05
Next year will be better.
9:07
- Next Christmas I promise it will be better.
9:10
We will be in this house
9:13
and we'll have everything that we have in our house.
9:18
So right now it's in storage houses.
9:24
This house, Bobby's house that I'm staying in,
9:30
thank God he lets his mama stay at his house.
9:36
Where else could they be Eddie?
9:38
- [Eddie] I think that's it.
9:39
- Who knows?
9:41
Who knows where it all is.
9:44
Has it been 10 minutes on our lemon sugar?
9:48
You think, I think I was supposed to toss it about halfway
9:53
through so let's check, stirring halfway through bakin'.
9:59
All right.
10:00
So I will you do that now.
10:03
Let me find a rag.
10:06
And something to stir it with.
10:14
Oh my gosh that's pretty.
10:16
Almost wish I'd put one more drop of food coloring.
10:25
Eddie I think it's time.
10:27
- [Eddie] It's ready, yeah.
10:29
- I'm gonna cut that oven off so we know it's dried out.
10:36
Don't we?
10:41
Oh gosh, look, I almost
10:44
you almost let me put that in that bowl Eddie.
10:47
You supposed to be watching me so I don't screw up.
10:54
- [Eddie] Lemon chai.
10:57
- Lemon chai, it probably wouldn't be bad.
11:02
All right.
11:03
Let's see if I've got this cool enough for me to pick
11:10
up, ooh, that sil pad is hot.
11:24
Now all we have to do is take a whisk
11:28
and just break it back up.
11:33
Or, you know, as I always say
11:37
I love God's tools pretty good.
11:39
And this is hot.
11:40
This is really hot, but the moisture from the zest
11:47
and the lemon, I mean the yellow food coloring
11:56
has gotten it nice and dried out, all that moisture.
12:03
If I had a food processor here
12:07
I could hit it with a food processor, you know
12:13
for just a second to break it all up for sure.
12:18
But I'm not opposed
12:20
just some little hard pieces.
12:26
This is going to be so delicious
12:30
in that cup of hot tea and you know
12:33
so many people get sick around this time of year.
12:38
So, you know
12:40
when you start getting a sore throat or something like that
12:46
a nice cup of hot tea really feels good on that throat.
12:52
So there we go, flavored sugars.
12:57
And in this issue of the magazine, y'all
13:01
there's a section that I really do like
13:07
and it's homemade goodies
13:10
and you know what I wanted to make y'all some biscotti.
13:17
Homemade biscotti is so good and I forgot.
13:25
But anyway, biscotti,
13:29
I have a recipe for a fruitcake biscotti in here.
13:33
I've got a gingerbread fudge.
13:36
I've got pumpkin parmesan bread.
13:39
I've got savory snack mix.
13:40
I got lemon sugars, chai, flavored finishing salts.
13:45
I love that.
13:46
I'm going to do that for y'all too before
13:48
or you can just get the magazine, how 'bout that.
13:50
Merry Christmas and I love y'all to pieces,
13:54
lovin' best dishes.
