0:01
- 12 days of Christmas cookies and I wanna thank today,
0:13
Am I pronouncing that right Eddie?
0:15
- [Theresa] Herr ra ra.
0:17
- Herr ra ra? (laughs)
0:20
I don't know but anyway I can pronounce Carla.
0:25
So Carla's white chocolate cherry Christmas cookie.
0:30
You know, every Christmas,
0:32
my cousin, Don and his wife Darlene,
0:35
come up and usually spend Christmas with us.
0:39
everything's kinda gotten off kilter though but.
0:41
And as soon as he walks in the, the door,
0:45
I say "okay let's start making our cherry cookies"
0:51
I mean every year, for years.
0:53
And this sounds a lot like Don's cookies
0:58
but he actually frost his.
1:01
These are not frosted.
1:04
And his doesn't have white chocolate chips in it
1:11
So I'm excited to try this Carla.
1:13
So we're gonna start out.
1:16
We started out by draining our Maraschino cherries,
1:22
and cuttin em in half.
1:23
By cutting em in half,
1:24
it allows the moisture to drain out of em,
1:28
and we've reserved some of the cherry grews,
1:33
sherry juice, not grews but juice (laughs)
1:39
and roll on a paper towel to make sure the moist is out.
1:46
Did you do that Theresa May?
1:47
- [Theresa] I sure did
1:48
- Thank you, so efficient.
1:51
All right, so I'm gonna start by creaming our butter
1:57
and our sugar together
2:01
and we have dark brown sugar and we have white sugar.
2:07
So I'm gonna butter whipped up a little bit.
2:13
It's at room temperature
2:14
but with the weather cooling off,
2:18
and your kitchen not getting as hot,
2:20
it doesn't, my butter's not so soft.
2:23
(sounds of the mixer whirring)
2:25
All right, in goes our brown sugar
2:35
and in goes our white sugar.
2:42
In go the eggs, one at a time.
2:59
So now we're gonna add the cherry juice.
3:03
Let's see how much we need of that.
3:06
- [Theresa] Three table spoons
3:08
- Yes three table spoons on the very end.
3:11
So - [Theresa] Oh I already
3:13
- Oh that is three table spoons?
3:15
Thank you Theresa. I just forget how efficient you are.
3:21
All right so that's gonna make these cookie's kinda pink.
3:26
Which pink to me cherries and pink
3:29
is all the colors of Christmas, you know?
3:32
It's always just red. The pinks are beautiful too.
3:37
All right, so add the Maraschino juice and mix.
3:45
See it's turn em pink!
3:58
now Carla tells us now to add the dry ingredients.
4:04
When does she call for the, for the extracts? Okay.
4:11
So I was supposed to put the extracts in
4:14
back when I did the eggs but we're, we're all right.
4:16
So she calls for two table spoons of vanilla
4:24
and one table spoon of almond.
4:29
Another cookie recipe after my heart.
4:34
- [Theresa] Does it say table spoons?
4:39
- And baking soda she has tsp
4:43
which means teaspoon - [Theresa] teaspoon
4:45
yeah oh I was thinking...
4:47
I mean you can look behind me
4:49
coz I don't trust my eye.. old eyes anymore.
4:54
- [Theresa] I like it fat - Two teaspoons
4:54
- [Theresa] but it seems
4:55
like a lot - [Paula] I, It does.
4:58
Seems like a awful lot.
4:59
That's a pretty good bit a dough too.
5:03
a little shy - [Theresa] yes she's got tbs.
5:06
Yeah I mean I'm reading it right aren't I?
5:08
- [Theresa] Yes ma'am.
5:11
- All right, so that was a little shy of a tablespoon,
5:13
just in case she meant teaspoon.
5:23
And that's just a little bit shy
5:25
of two tablespoons of vanilla.
5:28
you can let me know if that is supposed to be,
5:33
you know, tablespoons.
5:37
To me you can't get too much extract though.
5:40
You'd have to put a lot.
5:44
All right now she tells us to slowly add our flour.
5:49
Into our flour and gonna be adding baking soda,
5:56
and, let see, that's one and a half teaspoons.
6:01
So the reason I think it's right
6:03
is because she did teaspoons.
6:05
- [Theresa] Yep and it was two in a row.
6:07
It was, so - Yeah, yep
6:10
So I'm gonna stir that together,
6:15
and I'm gonna add it slowly,
6:19
and again, the instructions are, you know, don't over beat.
6:37
Oh this is mixing up pretty good,
6:39
because of the cherry juice.
6:43
Got some moisture in it.
6:47
The last of the flour.
6:51
I scrape down the sides of our bowl
6:56
to get all our ingredients mixed in.
6:59
And now we're going back in,
7:00
and what we have left,
7:02
is the halves of Maraschino cherries
7:06
and the one. How many ounces is this?
7:10
12 ounces of white chocolate chips, yum!
7:22
all right, now we got to the stirring part
7:27
of Carla's cookies, and it's a real pretty dough y'all.
7:34
So I'm gonna fold in our cherries, and I'm gon...
7:43
You know what this recipe reminds me of?
7:45
The macadamia nut cookie, only this has no nuts,
7:50
but kinda reminds me of that,
7:55
which if you wanted to,
7:56
I guess you could add some nuts also couldn't you Carla.
8:00
So you know a recipe is just something
8:04
that you kinda follow and then you take it from there.
8:10
All right, so thank you Carla, these smell and look divine.
8:20
All right, so let me see what she tells us now
8:22
- [Theresa] (in audible)
8:24
reach around me - [Theresa] Mm Hm
8:25
- which is a beautiful thing.
8:29
- [Theresa] (inaudible)
8:30
little thing please - [Theresa] I know
8:32
- Okay so Carla tells us to
8:38
use cookie scoop or roll into balls.
8:44
I think this might be a little sticky to roll into balls,
8:48
so I think am just gon use a regular spoon.
8:52
I think am gon make these a little bigger,
8:55
since they don't have icing or anything on em.
8:58
Do those look bout the same size Eddie,
9:01
- [Eddie] They.. looks good.
9:02
- You know the first one's always just a little shy.
9:07
All right, here we go, we got one cookie sheet loaded.
9:10
Theresa! And Carla says 350 for bout ten minutes.
9:17
You no that's.. usually
9:18
that's about the standard time for a cookie.
9:22
All right, so let's load up another cookie sheet.
9:26
This really makes a lot a cookies y'all.
9:30
So I got two full pans
9:32
and then what I call a half pan right here.
9:36
Once again y'all, I find my cookie jar empty.
9:42
And this is the most beautiful little cookie jar.
9:45
It's old and I found that at an antique shop.
9:52
And I use the word antique so loosely.
9:55
But in he precious, so cute.
9:59
So he's waiting there for me to wash him,
10:03
dry him and fill him back up
10:05
with these incredible white chocolate, cherry cookies.
10:12
So, so, so good Carla.
10:18
- [Eddie] These were good.
10:21
- [Eddie] These were good.
10:22
- [Theresa] Eddie broke into those already.
10:24
- [Paula] I know it (laughs)
10:26
Eddie looked over at em
10:27
when we had em on the wire sheet cooling,
10:29
he said "those are really good"
10:32
I said "oh you had some?" (laughs)
10:34
He looked real sheepish and said well yeah.
10:40
They are good, they remind my of macadamia nut cookies.
10:47
So you sent us a big hit Carla.
10:52
Eddie is giving his number one recommendation.
11:03
Very, very good (dog growling)
11:03
and it looks so Christmassy
11:05
with the cherry in it
11:07
Thank you Carla, Thank you so much.
11:12
I so appreciate all of y'all's love and support
11:16
and I hope everybody has a wonderful
11:18
fulfilling holiday season.
