- So Theresa and I,
0:02
she's asked me if I would sit down
0:04
and chat with her
0:06
looking back on 2021,
0:09
right Theresa?
0:09
- [Theresa] This is our new year.
0:10
So this is kind of like our.
0:12
- Starting fresh.
0:13
- [Theresa] Say goodbye to 2021,
0:16
go into 2022
0:17
and tell everyone sort of what,
0:19
you know, your favorite thing.
0:21
Let's start with 2021.
0:22
What are some,
0:23
what would you think,
0:24
what would you consider to be some of the highs.
0:27
- The high was moving back into our forever home.
0:30
That was the greatest feeling,
0:36
to know that I was back
0:38
where Michael and I should have been all along.
0:43
Even when we built that big house.
0:45
I mean, we were no spring chicken.
0:48
You know, I was like 64,
0:52
which I didn't need all the headaches
0:55
that came with that larger property.
0:57
But you know what?
0:58
We had some good years there.
1:01
Some got some good memories,
1:03
but this is so much more manageable.
1:06
- [Theresa] Well another cool thing,
1:08
kind of a,
1:10
a good effect that came out of it
1:11
was you got to spend a lot of time
1:12
with three grand babies.
1:14
- Yes! I got,
1:15
I, Michael and I actually spent nine months
1:19
in Bobby's guest house,
1:20
and I said,
1:21
"Son I so appreciate you letting us stay
1:25
in your guest house."
1:29
I said, "It's only going to be
1:30
for like a few weeks."
1:34
- [Theresa] I think you told them two months.
1:36
- Yeah.
1:37
- [Theresa] And then it turned out to be a year.
1:39
- I said, eight, eight weeks,
1:40
you know, it won't be long.
1:42
(woman laughing)
1:44
- [Theresa] He was a very gracious,
1:45
he and Claudia were very gracious hosts.
1:46
- Oh yes.
1:47
No, they said, "Mama,
1:50
no,
1:51
you don't worry about it.
1:53
You're fine."
1:54
- [Theresa] Well you, so you,
1:56
you won an award this year.
1:58
- I did.
2:00
I did,
2:01
as,
2:03
I don't know the exact title.
2:05
- [Theresa] It's a Patriot award.
2:06
- Yes, it's a Patriot award
2:09
and it is given to people
2:10
for their patriotism.
2:13
So, I mean,
2:14
that was very,
2:16
it made me very, very proud
2:18
because I do try to support our military folks,
2:23
the best that I can do now.
2:26
Um,
2:28
- [Theresa] Which that kind of
2:29
has led to a lot of time
2:30
with Lee Greenwood,
2:31
and Helping a Hero.
2:33
- Yes, yes, yes, I love Lee Greenwood.
2:34
He is so passionate about
2:37
helping a hero
2:40
and
2:41
he instruments
2:43
homes being built
2:45
for some of the heroes
2:48
that are so disabled
2:50
that they can't move into just a regular house.
2:53
So,
2:54
I have a furniture,
2:55
furniture line with,
2:59
- [Theresa] Craftmasters.
3:00
- Yeah, with Craftmasters.
3:02
And so all of my furniture now is just soft.
3:06
I don't have any wooden furniture now,
3:09
but...
3:11
- [Theresa] Soft means upholstered.
3:12
- Yeah. Soft means upholstery.
3:14
Yes.
3:15
(woman laughing)
3:16
Soft wood you can just put your hand through it,
3:19
No.
3:19
Soft furniture is just upholstery
3:23
and which is,
3:24
you know what we put in this house
3:27
because we sold
3:31
Riverbend furnished.
3:33
So we had to kind of start over,
3:35
you know,
3:36
when we moved in here,
3:38
- [Theresa] Well we lost Jamie Deen for a while too,
3:40
but he's back.
3:41
- Yes. Yes.
3:42
- [Theresa] So that was another good,
3:43
great thing.
3:44
- Yes. Yes.
3:45
Jamie,
3:45
Jamie and his family moved to Athens
3:49
and they stayed a year
3:50
and thank goodness they came back.
3:53
And how long have they been back now, Theresa?
3:55
- [Theresa] Has it been almost a year?
3:56
- [Male] Yeah, it was a year back in August.
3:59
- Yeah, I, I thought that it'd only been a year.
4:00
- [Theresa] Oh okay,
4:01
so it's been longer than I was thinking.
4:02
- Yeah, yeah, it was actually in 2020.
4:06
Yes. So all of our chicks
4:10
are back in Savannah,
4:12
but I did lose one this year,
4:16
lost my little Cari.
4:17
Janice, she and Brian
4:21
moved to Birmingham, Alabama
4:24
and she is loving it.
4:27
Sullivan is an only child.
4:30
They only have the one son.
4:31
And so being an only child,
4:34
you know, they,
4:36
they want somebody to play with them.
4:39
And so Cari has always had to go outside the home
4:43
to find playmates for Sullivan,
4:45
but he is so well adjusted
4:47
and he makes friends so quickly,
4:50
and so easily,
4:51
he is having a ball.
4:54
- [Theresa] That's great.
4:55
- He is having a ball.
4:56
Yes. And the school system there is wonderful.
5:00
So,
5:01
I'm very happy for them.
5:04
- [Theresa] So what about your,
5:05
I know you love talking about this
5:07
cause we talk about it every year.
5:09
What about your resolutions for next year?
5:11
- (woman laughing)
5:13
- [Theresa] So what's the same?
5:15
- Let me see what my resolution.
5:16
(woman laughing)
5:19
Oh yes. I remember,
5:20
to not make a resolution.
5:24
You know,
5:25
because I feel like I'm setting myself up for failure,
5:28
you know,
5:29
if I can't make them happen,
5:31
but I do like to start off the new year saying,
5:35
I'm going to try to do better about this,
5:39
whatever this is,
5:41
whatever I've got on my mind.
5:44
And,
5:46
but you know,
5:47
everybody would say I'm quitting smoking.
5:51
And when I knew I wasn't going to be able to do it.
5:55
So why I just looked like a big fat failure.
5:58
So,
6:01
you know,
6:02
one day I just said, this is it.
6:03
This is it.
6:04
It's over, I'm quitting.
6:06
And you know, once you get to that stage,
6:09
you don't need January the first
6:12
to motivate you,
6:14
there.
6:15
So,
6:17
or I'm going to quit drinking
6:18
or I'm going on a diet.
6:23
First time you eat a potato,
6:24
you think,
6:25
well, I'm a failure.
6:26
(woman laughing)
6:28
And I just don't want to do that to myself.
6:31
And I don't want anybody
6:33
that I care about
6:34
to do that to themselves. You know?
6:37
- [Theresa] So what are you looking forward to
6:39
in the new year?
6:40
What do you want to wish everybody
6:41
for their 2022?
6:43
- Oh my gosh.
6:44
I hope and pray that 2022 will be a better year
6:49
than 2020 and 2021.
6:54
A lot of things happened
6:57
in 2021,
6:58
a lot of changes.
6:59
And I have learned one thing over the years.
7:03
People don't like change.
7:06
The normal,
7:07
The average person does not like change.
7:12
You know,
7:13
we like for things to kind of remain the same
7:15
Of course,
7:16
there is some folks out there
7:17
that thrive on change,
7:19
but that I think the average person doesn't like change
7:23
and we've had so many changes.
7:26
In fact,
7:27
having these children trying to learn virtually,
7:32
I think that would be just a huge
7:37
zero.
7:38
You know,
7:39
there's too many things that can distract them,
7:42
to me.
7:43
- [Theresa] Yeah.
7:44
- So I,
7:45
I'm concerned about
7:49
where this year without schooling is going to show up
7:53
in what period of their life
7:54
is this going to show up?
7:55
Because it will show up.
7:58
It will show up.
8:00
So,
8:02
hopefully, you know,
8:04
the kids will be back in school and learning
8:06
and
8:09
getting their mojo back.
8:11
- [Theresa] So what do you want to tell everybody?
8:13
- I want to tell everybody
8:15
that
8:17
I hope you have a Happy New Year.
8:21
I hope that
8:23
if you
8:25
foresee a hard year
8:27
because of health wise
8:29
or,
8:31
divorce
8:33
troubling in the families,
8:35
I hope that God will grant y'all the grace
8:38
and the strength
8:41
to
8:42
hold up
8:44
under the pressure.
8:45
And
8:48
I really know what I'm talking about there
8:50
because I'm still mourning my little brother,
8:53
Bubba.
8:54
And,
8:57
in 2022,
8:58
he will have been gone from me three years.
9:01
It's hard to believe in August,
9:03
it will be three years.
9:05
And,
9:07
I keep waiting for him to walk through the door.
9:11
I sat down a couple of days ago
9:13
and read all the condolence cards that we got
9:18
when Bubba passed away
9:19
and all the wonderful things that people had
9:22
to say about him.
9:24
So,
9:26
anyway,
9:27
whatever comes your way,
9:29
I pray that God will be right there in your pocket,
9:32
helping you through it.
9:37
So let's talk about something happy.
9:39
Alright, let's see.
9:39
You know what I wish for people?
9:42
I wish contentment.
9:44
I think contentment is
9:47
so important
9:50
to lead a good, healthy life.
9:53
You know, being,
9:55
being content with where you are in life,
10:05
that can drag you down,
10:06
you know, accepting,
10:08
accepting things the way they are.
10:10
- [Theresa] I think that's how you,
10:11
the older you get,
10:13
the more you understand that it's more important
10:15
for you to appreciate yourself.
10:18
- Yes.
10:19
- [Theresa] Whatever that is,
10:20
versus worrying about what everybody else
10:22
has to say.
10:23
- Yes.
10:24
And,
10:25
you know,
10:26
who has this and whom has that,
10:30
you know,
10:31
it's just material things.
10:33
- [Theresa] Can't take it with you when you go.
10:35
- You can't take it with you.
10:36
And,
10:38
none of those things
10:39
are going to make you as happy
10:40
or as satisfying
10:42
as a great relationship with your family.
10:45
You know, that trumps all.
10:48
- [Theresa] So 2022 is, to you and your family.
10:51
- Love,
10:52
peace,
10:53
contentment,
10:54
joy,
10:55
happiness,
10:58
and a lot of good cooking.
11:00
We want to do a lot of good cooking in 2022
11:04
because I ain't making no resolutions
11:06
about going on a diet.
11:07
I'll just tell you that right now.
11:11
So I do hope y'all all have a Happy New Year
11:14
and I send out much love
11:17
and many wishes for best dishes.
