I'm Jamie Deen back here at Mama's Kitchen
0:02
sharing simple easy recipes for you.
0:06
'Tis the season to be jolly y'all!
0:08
So now that it's Christmas time, we're gonna really focus
0:11
on the Christmas flavors.
0:14
Dried fruit, fresh apples
0:16
and lots of stuff coming out of the oven.
0:18
Today we're gonna do a creamy cinnamon oatmeal bake,
0:21
and it's really easy and our kids love oatmeal.
0:24
So this is a recipe I'm excited for.
0:27
We're gonna start with our milk
0:30
and y'all need to grab one large bowl.
0:31
And I've got my baking dish here already pre sprayed
0:36
cause this is gonna be a real quick dump and cook.
0:41
(pouring liquid) (scraping bowl)
0:51
and here we're gonna add cinnamon,
0:56
and one teaspoon of vanilla.
1:04
You're not supposed to measure that over your container
1:06
but, got a lot of practice y'all.
1:09
I'm gonna, let me get my whisk real quick.
1:14
I'm gonna just whip this up a little bit,
1:15
kind of incorporate this and into this
1:17
I'm gonna add our oats.
1:20
You can use your favorite brand.
1:26
And you can use any kind of dried fruit you want,
1:28
but today we're gonna be using raisins.
1:34
And I've got a fresh apple,
1:40
that I've peeled, cored and chopped.
1:45
- [Guest] Jamie, the only thing I didn't put
1:46
was a pinch of salt for you.
1:49
Well I always keep a pinch of salt in my pocket.
1:53
You don't have to worry about that
1:56
One little pinch of salt.
1:57
Well I can see how this is gonna be creamy.
2:00
And we're gonna go into our baking dish,
2:03
now this is broken up into two different cook times y'all.
2:08
This first part is going in the oven, for 20 minutes.
2:15
And then we're gonna add our almonds to the top
2:18
and bake the rest of this liquid outta here.
2:21
Make sure that if you got a clump of oats,
2:24
or something in the center, that you evenly distribute this
2:27
cause you want it all to bake about as evenly as you can.
2:33
You know I love me a dump and bake,
2:35
and this creamy oatmeal apple...cake is going to be
2:41
We're going in the oven for 20 minutes
2:43
and then we're gonna top with our nuts at 350.
2:47
Hey y'all, it's been 20 minutes
2:49
on our creamy oatmeal baking,
2:51
now it's time to add the almonds to the top.
2:54
Take a good look at that.
2:55
I got a pound cake cooking right next door
2:57
so I'm gonna sprinkle these silvered almonds
3:00
all along the top here.
3:04
And now it's gonna be 20 more minutes
3:06
and then we'll cook the rest of this liquid out.
3:09
So if you were to use any different kind of nut
3:11
that you want, but this recipe calls for almonds.
3:14
And so we're doing almonds.
3:15
Walnuts would be delicious in there. And pecans, hazel nuts.
3:20
Everything is awesome in here.
3:21
We'll see y'all in a little bit.
3:24
Look, got it out of the oven.
3:27
I was talking to my wife
3:30
or maybe I was telling the boys last night about recipes.
3:34
Oh, I was speaking with a guy.
3:35
Jack had a sports banquet last night.
3:37
He's just finished fall sports.
3:39
So we were at sports banquet
3:40
and the guy that does some cooking, he and I were talking
3:42
and about recipes and how he doesn't write any recipes down.
3:47
He doesn't have any recipes.
3:48
And I was saying how my mother had to formulate,
3:51
it took years and years for her to
3:53
formulate all of her recipes.
3:55
And my brother and I have done some books.
3:57
It's a lot of work and formulate a recipe.
3:59
And I always follow it right the first time.
4:01
But the second time now I'm gonna make some changes.
4:04
So let's talk about what we're doing here.
4:06
We got almonds on top.
4:07
How about if we did some walnuts on top of here
4:10
and you got apples in here so you could change
4:13
up your fruit if you wanted to do some pears
4:16
or just anything that you wanted to do
4:18
you could change this up.
4:20
This is a delicious, creamy oatmeal that took
4:23
20 minutes in the oven and it has turned out perfect.
4:27
Look, all of our liquid is cooked outta here.
4:30
So this will be perfect for a Christmas morning.
4:33
You could put this together and throw it into your oven
4:36
and when your kids wake up, they'll be ready to eat.
4:39
And y'all have seen me,
4:40
I burn myself every time I come on here
4:43
cause I can't stand it, but well, what am I gonna do?
4:50
(utensil clinking plate)
4:52
I have learned to love oatmeal
4:54
and this is as good as any oatmeal you can make.
4:57
The raisins at the bottom, the cinnamon
5:00
and it really is so creamy.
5:03
So throw away your pot of boiled water
5:05
and your old packet of oatmeal.
5:06
Let's get together and make some
5:07
homemade oatmeal in 20 minutes.
5:10
I'm Jamie Deen, this is good food.
5:12
We'll see y'all around the kitchen.
