12 days of Christmas cookies, y'all!
0:05
I think this recipe is gonna be a huge hit with y'all.
0:09
'Cause guess what? You don't have to bake 'em.
0:13
Which, you know, that's a bonus.
0:17
And this recipe was sent in to me
0:19
from Tammy Dubrula, from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
0:27
Beautiful part of our United States, y'all.
0:31
And she said, "Hi Paula. Hope you'll try these.
0:34
They are delicious. And they're so easy to make."
0:39
Yay, cornflake balls.
0:41
So, what you say, let's get starting.
0:44
The quicker we get 'em made, the quicker they cool 'em
0:46
the quicker we can eat them.
0:49
Like I said, there is no baking.
0:52
There is a little melting of stuff, though.
0:55
And we are gonna start by melting our white sugar,
0:59
along with a cup of white Karo syrup,
1:04
which I used to love as a child on my pancakes and waffles.
1:14
Okay, so we're gonna just heat this up on top of the stove
1:19
until all the sugar is dissolved.
1:24
All right. Tammy tells us to put this over like medium heat
1:32
and bring it to a boil,
1:34
and make sure your sugar is dissolved.
1:37
So the next thing we're gonna do,
1:39
is we're gonna add a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter to this.
1:45
But, we're gonna take it off the heat,
1:54
I think I want a harder utensil.
2:04
I love this thing right here.
2:07
Didn't somebody send me this?
2:09
- [Eddie] Yes. - Oh my gosh.
2:11
- [Eddie] Peanut butter person.
2:12
- Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love it. Huh?
2:15
- [Eddie] The buttery.
2:16
- Oh yes! The butter girl!
2:26
See, that reached all the way down in there to the bottom.
2:36
So we have a cookie that's easy.
2:47
I mean, what more can we ask for in a cookie?
2:51
You don't have to bake it. That is the bonus.
3:01
So we're just gonna stir this, per Tammy's instructions.
3:11
Good to the last drop.
3:14
I wish one of the grandchildren were here.
3:15
They could have fun licking that utensil.
3:23
All right, so I'm just gonna stir this.
3:27
Let that peanut butter melt, all in our sugar
3:31
and our white Karo syrup.
3:42
And while our poonup butter. (laughs)
3:46
Teresa and I both are having trouble using our words today.
3:49
- [Teresa] Yes. It's not been a good thing.
3:51
- I don't know. Is it our teeth, or -
3:52
- [Teresa] I don't know. - Our brain.
3:54
- [Teresa] I'm a little worried. Yet again. (Paula laughing)
4:00
- Okay, that's melting pretty good.
4:03
So while that finishes its melting process,
4:08
I'm gonna put in four cups of cornflake cereal.
4:16
And this is not sweetened.
4:19
And I'm gonna add one cup. This is a little shy.
4:23
So I'm gonna ask y'all's patience just for a minute.
4:26
'Cause I'm gonna look and see if I have some more coconut.
4:29
Okay. I found some, y'all.
4:33
Quite often, when I use coconut,
4:35
I don't ever use the full bag.
4:37
So I just tied it up real good.
4:41
Stick it in my freezer, and it's ready
4:45
and waiting on me when I need it.
4:48
So, gonna mix these together.
4:57
I'll check on our stuff, our good stuff.
5:03
And it is all melted.
5:08
So Tammy tells us to just pour this
5:12
over our cereal and our coconut mixture.
5:19
This just making me smile. I can't help it. (laughs)
5:25
I mean, this is one of those cookies
5:27
that would be great to do with the children
5:29
or grandchildren, you know?
5:32
I mean, you don't have to worry about them getting burned.
5:34
And of course they love to get their hands all in the stuff.
5:41
All right. So, I don't know how hot that is,
5:42
so I'm gonna do it like this first.
6:01
(Paula laughing) Tammy, girl, thank you.
6:09
Thank you, Tammy, from West Virginia.
6:23
Wanna dig deep and bring it up and around and down.
6:36
Oh, my granny's. (Paula laughing)
6:48
Mm! Y'all hear me crunching?
6:52
Can you hear the crunch?
6:53
- [Teresa] Crunch, crunch, crunch.
6:56
She doesn't say anything about mixing till cool,
6:58
or anything like that.
7:00
She just says, mix thoroughly.
7:08
And then form them into walnut-sized balls.
7:15
I'm thinking that I'm gonna need to do this to my hands
7:21
'cause I could wind up eating more than, (Paula laughs)
7:25
more than I'm supposed to.
7:36
Is that the size of your walnuts, Tammy?
7:39
Sometimes, mine be pretty big.
7:41
No, Eddie? You say "no"? - [Eddie] No, that's -
7:44
- Is it bigger than a walnut?
7:45
- [Eddie] I think so. - [Teresa] Yes.
7:46
- [Eddie] That's bigger than a golf ball.
7:49
- [Teresa] I would say golf ball.
7:51
- Okay. (Paula laughs)
7:54
Tammy, I love this cookie,
7:57
mainly 'cause you didn't have to bake it.
7:58
All you had to do was melt your sugar
8:01
and your white Karo syrup and your peanut butter.
8:06
And that was it. Look, I put these on a platter,
8:09
so it looks like Santa Claus's beard.
8:13
Ain't that cute? And I guess we could,
8:18
let's see if I can find some good ones.
8:24
No, when you take away his eyes,
8:26
it looks different, doesn't it?
8:29
Well, I tell you what, Tammy.
8:33
While I was dipping these up,
8:37
I got a little bit on my hand,
8:40
so I had to get it off. (Paula laughs)
