- Mom today, Jamie and I are gonna make you breakfast.
0:02
- We think you deserve the day off.
0:03
(upbeat music)
0:06
- Yeap
0:07
- They're not running fever.
0:09
Today, y'all is a dream come true.
0:12
'Cause my boys are treating me,
0:15
starting with an easy Blueberry Skillet cake.
0:17
It's so simple little shock yet.
0:20
- Oh God.
0:21
- (laughing)
0:23
- And then a breakfast dish jam packed with sweetness,
0:26
a strawberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast.
0:30
- Well the French toast is incredible.
0:34
- Next a breakfast classic with a twist.
0:37
Fruit salad with a cream cheese-pecan topping.
0:41
Finally, my sons are mixing it up
0:43
with a pina colada smoothie.
0:46
I am like the luckiest woman in the world.
0:49
(upbeat music)
0:51
(laughing)
0:53
- You know mama really deserves a break.
0:55
It's about time that you and I made breakfast for her.
0:57
- Mama has been making us breakfast for over 40 years.
1:01
This is a great recipe that's so easy.
1:03
It's actually called easy, easy blueberry skillet cake.
1:07
- We're gonna use can basket.
1:08
There's gonna be some Brown sugar
1:09
and some butter involved 'imagine that',
1:11
and we're gonna bake it.
1:12
- What!
1:13
- And we're gonna bake it in a
1:14
skillet in the oven, am I right?
1:15
- Yeah, you're right.
1:16
Get a quarter stick of butter and put it in there, Bobby.
1:18
And you're gonna need one tablespoon of Brown sugar.
1:21
So using biscuits, it's kind of the easiest way
1:23
to get that a breakfast caky thing without having
1:25
to do a bunch of mixing and stuff like that.
1:27
While Bobby is melting that down,
1:29
I'm going to my food processor
1:31
and I'm going to take a quarter of stick of this butter.
1:33
- Alright
1:35
- I'm gonna put one quarter cup of almond slivers.
1:40
I know you love almonds.
1:41
- I do.
1:42
I'm liking the ingredients.
1:43
I say almonds and really big fat blueberries over here.
1:46
- Yeah, this is healthy.
1:47
- My favorite
1:48
- A quarter of a cup
1:49
- This is really healthy
1:50
- Of granulated sugar,
1:53
one teaspoon of cinnamon.
1:58
And then I'm gonna put two
2:00
and a half tablespoons of all purpose flour.
2:03
- You know who would like this?
2:04
I bet Jack would like this.
2:06
- Jack loves breakfast.
2:07
I made him blueberry pancakes this morning for breakfast.
2:10
- Did you really?
2:11
- I did, my pancake pan is all little animal.
2:15
So they're building this.
2:15
So I make eight of those and he chooses the four animals
2:18
that he wants to.
2:19
- Which ones did he choose today?
2:20
- Today he had the lion,
2:22
he had the hippo,
2:23
he had the monkey and the giraffe.
2:25
- I really think the best way of cooking.
2:27
That's where you learn to cook.
2:28
And that's where you start
2:29
with your family is at breakfast time.
2:31
- The same place we started with mom.
2:36
- I remember as soon as I got tall enough to see over the
2:41
counter, basically it was like last year.
2:44
(laughs)
2:46
Oh, I don't say anything but,
2:48
I was thinking last year,
2:50
the first things we ever did was breakfast.
2:52
I remember scrambling eggs, momma letting us, I think,
2:54
I think the first thing I remember doing was mommy used to
2:58
let me run the bread through the egg wash to do French
3:00
toast.
3:01
- Yeah.
3:02
- Or Jack started with cupcakes.
3:03
That's one of the first things that he wanted to cook.
3:05
He loves, - he gonna be a big boy.
3:06
- He is going to be a big boy.
3:07
He likes to decorate them as much as he likes to eat them.
3:10
But he loves a sprinkle.
3:12
Is his favorite thing.
3:13
- Is it?
3:14
- Go ahead and open up your can of biscuits.
3:16
This'll be to be melted good.
3:19
And let's turn that heat off.
3:21
- You know, every time momma opens a can of biscuits,
3:24
she gets really scared.
3:28
(laughs)
3:33
- I like to have a heart attack just man.
3:36
- Every time mama opens a can of biscuits, that happens.
3:39
- (laughs)
3:42
looks awesome.
3:44
- Alright. And we're just gonna,
3:45
I think just place this in here, right?
3:46
- Yeap.
3:47
Just lay them around.
3:49
Butter and sugar is one of my favorite smells.
3:52
It's like my favorite perfume.
3:55
- I can tell this is going to be good.
3:56
- Yeah, this is kind of a, see,
3:58
this is kind of like a real crumbly top.
4:01
Okay. Now let's lay it up with these blueberries.
4:04
You don't want to put a cup in there.
4:06
- Yeah.
4:07
- Yeah.
4:09
You just go and do handfuls.
4:11
- Yeah.
4:11
I don't think we could overdo blueberries.
4:13
We're going to use three handfuls.
4:16
- Three handfuls equals one cup in Bobby's kitchen.
4:20
- Now what?
4:20
- Now we're gonna put this over the top.
4:22
I'm just gonna kind of spoon it.
4:25
And these biscuits we going bake up,
4:26
and that's going to envelop
4:28
all of these berries and all this stuff
4:31
and it's gonna be so delicious.
4:34
- In balance.
4:35
- Good word.
4:36
- Let me go get the dictionary.
4:38
- It is a good word
4:40
- You know, your mama would be mad
4:41
for only using a quarter teaspoon of butter.
4:43
- Well we're cooking for her today.
4:45
- Alright.
4:45
Here we go. Between 25 to 30 minutes.
4:49
- I predict deliciousness.
4:51
- And it's so good.
4:52
Get them while they're warm with some milk.
4:55
- Speaking of delicious breakfast,
4:56
I love to do French toast.
4:59
- Mmh.
4:59
- And I remember doing a lot of French toast and pancakes
5:01
when were growing up, come on here Jamie,
5:02
and let's make a
5:03
strawberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast.
5:06
- Mmh.
5:07
- So Jamie let's make a really simple syrup to go over some
5:09
French toast this morning,
5:10
we're going to use about a pound of fresh strawberries,
5:12
and we're going to take a cup of sugar.
5:15
I'm going to need for you to zest and juice that lemon.
5:17
- Okay.
5:17
- And I'm just going to quarter up these strawberries and
5:21
we're gonna boil them down, make a really simple syrup.
5:23
- And it's a little something different.
5:24
- You know, rather than pancakes or maple,
5:26
you know, maple syrup.
5:27
We use a lot of cane down in the South,
5:30
but this is something, a little different.
5:31
Nice fresh fruit.
5:32
- It sounds awesome.
5:35
This lemon smells so good.
5:37
One of my favorite ways to get good flavor in a recipe
5:40
is to use the zest of a lemon
5:42
or orange is really awesome too.
5:43
- This is reminded me when we were kids. Jamie,
5:45
we used to do all kinds of French toast and pancakes and
5:49
stuff for breakfast and a big old jug of sweet tea.
5:52
- (laughs)
5:53
You remember that?
5:54
- I do.
5:55
We always had a gallon in the fridge.
5:56
We always had a gallon sitting on the table at every meal.
5:58
Didn't matter what the meal was.
6:01
- I got my first cavity at three.
6:02
(laughs)
6:06
- Does Jack likes strawberries?
6:07
- Loves berries. Berries are his favorite thing.
6:09
- Alright. I think this is just about enough.
6:12
We're gonna simmer this for about 15 minutes and when we
6:15
come back, we're going to make French toast.
6:18
- We, we?
6:19
- What do you think brother? you, you.
6:20
- That's French.
6:21
(laughs)
6:23
Just stick around.
6:24
- [Narrator] Coming up.
6:25
- Probably want to taste?
6:26
- I certainly do.
6:28
- [ Narrator] My boys' French toast is worth fighting for,
6:32
and then they're now whipping a sweet and creamy topping for
6:35
our fruit salad.
6:37
- Very good.
6:39
- Very, very good.
6:40
- [Narrator] And later - we're got bananas.
6:42
- [ Narrator] Because they're gonna be making
6:44
Pina Colada Smoothie.
6:48
I so hope y'all are enjoying the show.
6:51
And if you do.
6:53
Be sure to like, subscribe in the notification
6:56
bell so you'll never miss a video.
6:59
And we'll be right back after the break.
7:03
(upbeat music)
7:06
- Welcome back.
7:06
- Jamie and I are doing breakfast for mom this morning.
7:09
And right now we're doing a really neat French toast.
7:12
You known what I love about French toast
7:14
is you can do anything really that you want to with it.
7:16
And what we're going to do this morning is we are going to,
7:19
first of all, you're going to go to work.
7:21
So Jamie,
7:22
I need for you to start slicing those strawberries, please.
7:24
We got an eight ounce package of cream cheese here.
7:26
- Mmmh
7:26
It's like at room temperature,
7:27
we're going to spread it onto the....
7:28
- Crunchy or sandwich?
7:29
- Crunchies and strawberry sandwiches.
7:31
So you can do anything you want.
7:33
So go ahead and get started with that Jamie,
7:34
and I am going to get us an egg wash here for the,
7:38
for the French toast.
7:39
I'm going to use a half cup of milk.
7:41
I've got two eggs and a half teaspoon of sugar.
7:45
So Jamie don't you have a nice story
7:46
about you and Brooke and French toast.
7:48
- Well, if Brooke's first mother's day,
7:50
I wanted to do a special breakfast for her.
7:52
What I did was take peanut butter and honey and bananas
7:56
and mashed them all up.
7:58
And I put it all inside of a piece of bread.
8:00
- Yeah.
8:01
- And then I put it down in my egg wash
8:04
and then I rolled it in granola.
8:06
So the edges were sealed with fresh crunchy granola.
8:08
And that's what I made for her first mother's day breakfast.
8:11
- Yeah.
8:12
- But it was so good.
8:12
She enjoyed it so much.
8:13
- Really?
8:14
Which is kind of like this.
8:15
This is a stuffed French toast too.
8:17
- And the cream cheese, when it gets high and gets so gooey,
8:20
- and this is going to yield about six sandwiches.
8:23
So I'll be lucky if I get one,
8:25
- (laughs)
8:27
I know you're pretty strong.
8:29
- You're right. I think I can muscle it away from you.
8:32
- Do you want this pack full of strawberry?
8:33
- Yes I do.
8:35
Alright egg wash is ready.
8:37
I've got this block of butter here.
8:38
I'm gonna use about this much and put it in our skillet
8:41
to keep our French toast from sticking.
8:44
Yeah. Heaven forbid we'd make something without butter.
8:47
- If mama doesn't taste a certain amount of butter in there,
8:49
we're going to be, we're going to be in trouble.
8:51
And then we're gonna run these French toast sandwiches,
8:54
I guess is what they are through our egg wash.
8:57
- Here you go.
8:58
- And ride on the skillet.
8:59
(upbeat music)
9:01
- Teamwork brother.
9:02
- Team there is no I in team.
9:04
(upbeat music)
9:05
- It looks so good.
9:07
(upbeat music)
9:15
- Yes, sir.
9:16
(upbeat music)
9:20
Bobby, your syrup that we put together
9:21
looks so good.
9:22
- I'm about to pull that up.
9:24
- It looks like preserves.
9:27
- That's another thing mama did for us. When we were kids,
9:28
I mean, we had a big tree in the yard
9:31
and you remember the fake preserves that mama made.
9:33
- I do.
9:34
- She do strawberry fig and then she'd do regular fig and on
9:38
white bread with some mayonnaise and that sweet syrup coming
9:41
out of those figs on that toast was so good.
9:45
- I think she's going to like this.
9:47
Kevin, do you smell that, coming from the oven?
9:48
- Mmh
9:50
- This is a breakfast fit for a queen.
9:53
It's about time for the flip. Let me say go,
9:58
Jamie. You remember the cooking competition that we did?
10:00
Don't you?
10:01
Do you remember how good my salmon was? Jamie and how bad,
10:03
whatever it was that you made. Yours was so bad.
10:05
I don't even remember what you made.
10:06
- What is it that I made?
10:07
- No cooking competition.
10:08
- We are having a Dean family cook off.
10:11
Jamie's going to make a dish,
10:13
Bobby's gonna make a dish.
10:15
And Whaah! is gonna make a dish.
10:18
- Let me refresh your memory.
10:19
- No.
10:20
- I did a Chilly,
10:22
mom did short ribs and you did salmon.
10:26
- Suppose,
10:27
- and who was the judge?
10:29
- Well, let's see that's kind of where it went sideways
10:32
because Grover was there.
10:34
- Okay. He's always there.
10:36
- And my wife was there.
10:38
- I'm not trying to hurt your feelings.
10:42
That's so nice
10:44
- Salmon!
10:45
- And I won the contest.
10:46
- I rest my case.
10:49
- I wish you dressed your lips.
10:50
- (laughs)
10:54
Little brothers. Y'all little brothers.
10:56
- French toast.
10:57
- It's perfect. Measurement by look,
10:59
I got six of them all done.
11:00
- I'm good.
11:01
- So since we... - got good time and two,
11:02
cause these are just about done.
11:03
- Since we got an extra let's try one.
11:06
- Ohh my Gosh.
11:08
- Why don't you cut one of those open Jamie and let's get a
11:09
look at it. We're going to cut one open about some syrup.
11:13
- Wait buddy.
11:16
- Beautiful. - That does look right.
11:18
Look at that. A little bit of powdered sugar.
11:19
Just that really fancies it up. Doesn't it?
11:21
- How about a little bit of that syrup running yet?
11:23
- Relax.
11:26
I realize you're starving.
11:30
- Oh brother.
11:35
- Oh my goodness.
11:37
- Oh man.
11:38
- Alright.
11:39
(upbeat music)
11:41
- You got more stuff to cook.
11:43
You better hurry.
11:45
- Move out of the way.
11:51
- Is it good?
11:53
- Mmm hmm.
11:56
Bobby one taste.
11:57
- I certainly do.
12:03
We are going to take a break.
12:04
When you come back,
12:05
this piece is going to be gone and this too.
12:07
- Because I will have taken it from him.
12:09
- Y’all stick around.
12:10
We're doing a fruit salad with a cream cheese-pecan topping.
12:13
When we come back.
12:15
- [Narrator] Coming up.
12:16
- Finally going to...
12:17
- get down to business.
12:18
- [Narrator] With an unbeatable fruit salad.
12:21
And later we're getting tropical with her smoothie.
12:24
- This is delicious.
12:29
I hope y'all are enjoying the show
12:31
and I want to hear from you.
12:32
Tell me what recipes or videos you'd like to see me
12:35
make by just leaving a short comment below.
12:39
Now, let's get back to the show, y'all.
12:43
(upbeat music)
12:45
- Don't adjust your television set.
12:47
You got the Dame brothers in mama's kitchen this morning.
12:49
- Or you might want to.
12:51
- We're doing a fruit salad.
12:52
Now mom does a delicious fruit salad.
12:55
- That's right. That lady days. Do you remember?
12:57
- And she serves it with a custard.
12:59
- And we gonna do,
13:00
this fruit salad is going to have a topping as well,
13:03
but it's gonna be a little different than that.
13:04
- Yeah
13:05
- We're doing a fruit salad with
13:06
a cream Cream Cheese-pecan Topping
13:08
Right now I'm cutting fresh strawberries
13:10
and some green grapes got blueberries and some fresh
13:13
blackberries and one star fruit and a cantaloupe.
13:16
And I'm going to use two cups of everything except for the
13:19
blackberries where we're gonna use about a cup of those.
13:21
Were from the Southwest corner of the state of Georgia.
13:24
And blackberries are just everywhere down there.
13:27
But you gotta be careful picking them because rattlesnakes
13:30
live in the Blackberry bushes.
13:31
- And that's what mama always told us
13:33
- No, it's true. I seen them.
13:36
- So a Blackberry Bush was like the coolest bonus for us.
13:39
If you got a blackberries grown in your yard and man,
13:42
that's like a, this fruit is good for you.
13:45
Good for your health.
13:47
It's got bunch of sugar in it too.
13:48
So it's like candy that grows in the yard.
13:50
Okay I'm gonna take my pecans.
13:54
That's about a half a cup.
13:56
I'm gonna take a half a cup, a whipping cream.
14:00
We used to get by black berries
14:01
at grand mama Paul's house and her neighbor,
14:03
Mr Carr had strawberry bushes.
14:05
- I do.
14:07
We used to pick all kinds of,
14:08
and that's one of the good things about living in the South
14:10
is you can just pick a lot of stuff, right?
14:12
Fresh out of the ground. And I remember granny Pa,
14:14
having the best vegetable garden
14:17
- Yeah,
14:19
and our uncle Bob down in Florida
14:20
had orange and grapefruit trees
14:22
- That's all right.
14:23
- I've got a quarter of a cup of powdered sugar.
14:25
When you use this whole package of cream cheese,
14:28
this is eight ounces of cream cheese.
14:31
And we always have pecan trees too.
14:33
And pecans is going to be something that Jack remembers.
14:35
We've got some pecan trees in the yard
14:37
and Jack loves to go out.
14:38
He thinks it's the neatest thing that he can find them,
14:41
crack them and then eat them.
14:43
Okay, I'm going to turn this all together.
14:47
- Now that cream cheese I'm sure is softened, right?
14:49
- Yeah.
14:52
- And that means I can try it. Right?
14:56
- What do you think
14:58
- Ooh, very good
15:02
Very good.
15:04
Very, very good.
15:07
- Bobby. I've got this all turned up.
15:09
I'm just gonna, wanna add a little bit of lemon juice.
15:12
- Okay.
15:13
- This is about two tablespoons,
15:17
- who don't love a Blackberry.
15:20
- This is a pretty juicy lemon.
15:22
I think I got two tablespoons out of there
15:23
and about 900 seeds
15:26
I got to get a spoon.
15:29
- Come on.
15:30
This' a cube less cantaloupe,
15:33
mama used to tell us when we were boys,
15:34
that if you ate the seeds out of something,
15:37
then you'd grow trees out of your ears.
15:40
Remember that? Not true.
15:41
(laughs)
15:42
(upbeat music)
15:43
- Turn this a couple more times.
15:45
The lemon juice makes it really smooth.
15:47
That's a little bit of liquid in there that keeps it from
15:49
being like stiffing green cheese.
15:54
- It's delicious.
15:55
- The Lusher also adds a little bit of that citrus flavor.
15:58
It's going to marry it up with our fruit really well.
16:03
Okay.
16:04
I'm going to help you cut this star fruit.
16:07
This is one of my best sellers. When we started the bag lady
16:10
- Summer time and we'd be running our routes
16:12
all over Savannah and just remember it was beautiful
16:16
fresh fruit salads that mama made and
16:17
people love them so much.
16:21
- This is a basket of spoon.
16:24
why is this so genius?
16:28
It's the older brothers.
16:29
The older brothers.
16:32
Yes, sir.
16:33
- Okay. Now we're going to put this
16:34
into a really pretty dish Vermont.
16:36
(upbeat music)
16:39
So beautiful sound.
16:41
Now you can put anything you want to in here.
16:44
I think orange was a really pretty and really easy to do
16:48
- This great.
16:49
Top breathe.
16:50
- Now for the goods
16:58
right on top. That looks beautiful.
17:00
- Speaking of lemon juice,
17:01
I think if you wanted to squeeze a little bit of fresh lemon
17:02
on that, you could let that fruit hold, right?
17:05
- If you wanted to, that's a good trick.
17:07
If you're working with fresh fruit,
17:09
you can put lemon juice on them and it'll keep it from
17:11
turning Brown.
17:12
- Oh, that looks great.
17:13
- Yeah. I see a little garnish with just a couple of nuts,
17:15
right on top.
17:16
- Gorgeous.
17:17
- It looks great. I'm going to taste it.
17:18
I'm going to try the theory of the starfruit gets better
17:21
with cream, cheese and sugar.
17:23
- I'm sure it does.
17:26
- So good.
17:27
- And when we come back,
17:28
we're finally going to get to get down to business rather
17:32
than pina coladas. Right?
17:33
Pina coladas
17:34
- you know it.
17:35
- Smoothies.
17:36
It's a breakfast show. Y'all see in a minute.
17:39
- Alright, so good,
17:40

18:23
- Okay.
18:24
- And there's three of us.
18:26
I'm gonna use kind of a good amount of ice here.
18:29
(upbeat music)
18:31
- All we need is one cup with this pineapple so I'm not
18:33
going to need the whole thing and one cup of unsweetened
18:38
coconut milk to pull it all together.
18:41
Two teaspoons of honey.
18:43
- Love honey.
18:44
- One banana.
18:46
Here we go.
18:47
A cup of pineapple.
18:49
I'll make us a nice garnish while you're doing that.
18:51
- Here we go.
18:59
Alright.
19:00
That smells so good. Man.
19:02
- Sure do.
19:04
- Tastes like the beach.
19:06
Put some pretty pineapple on the side.
19:09

19:12

19:46
in your life.
19:47
- Oh my goodness, it looks
19:48
- Beautiful fruit salad.
19:50
- This reminds me guys of the fruit sandwich
19:53
we used to make for the bad boys exactly
19:56
only we did the French customs.
19:59
- Mum can I give you a little
20:01
- sharp on your French toast.
20:02
- Yes
20:03
- We made syrup for you.
20:05
- Little powdered sugar and mama look at this syrup.
20:08
- Oh my goodness.
20:10
- Say when that's good,
20:11
- This mama is an easy Blueberry skillet.
20:13

20:24
The drink is delicious.
20:26
- Strawberry.
20:26
- Gosh,
20:27
- On the French toast is what we did was we made almost
20:30
like sandwiches. We cream cheese, both sides of the bread,
20:33
sliced up strawberries and put it on there and ran it
20:36
through an egg wash
20:37
- yeah
20:38
- and did them on the skillet.
20:39
So they are like French toast sandwiches.
20:42
- Well, the French toast is increadible.
20:47
- Yea get. mum this is sort of, this is
20:51
we use canned biscuits just kind of like the gorilla
20:53
bread that we do.
20:54
- These are delicious. And what kind of,
20:55
what kind of topping and did y'all make for the fruit?
20:58
- Green cheese and pecan
21:01
