Hey y'all, welcome to another episode of
0:01
What's Cooking with Paula Deen. I'm
0:03
Bobby Deen and
0:05
this is my wife Claudia Deen and Paula
0:07
Deen is not here, so
0:09
let's get started, shall we?
0:11
So,
0:13
Claud, what's happening? You just got
0:14
back from
0:16
So, um I went to Colombia and Panama to
0:19
visit my family. So, I went to Colombia
0:21
to babysit my nieces.
0:22
Mhm. What are my nieces called?
0:24
Uh Silvana and Federica. Yes. And you
0:28
passed the test. Uh what was the
0:30
pronunciation?
0:31
my my my niece's name?
0:33
Um Silvana and Federica.
0:36
Okay. So,
0:38
I was there and then I went to Panama
0:40
and this is a highlight of the trip. I
0:42
went with my mom to this place called
0:44
Bocas del Toro,
0:45
which is like an archipelago.
0:48
Archipelago? Archipelago.
0:50
Um in the Caribbean.
0:52
Mhm. And it's amazing. And we stayed at
0:54
this hotel called Island Plantation
0:57
Bocas, which is an eco resort and it was
1:01
just the most beautiful place on earth.
1:04
It was just gorgeous. You've seen the
1:06
pictures.
1:07
Mhm. I have. So, the owners Okay, so
1:10
this place is amazing. I just looked it
1:11
up online and I found it last minute.
1:13
Like I literally saw it on Thursday and
1:15
then Friday Like Thursday my mom and I
1:17
and I were like, "Okay, let's go." So,
1:19
we booked the tickets and we were on the
1:20
plane on Friday. Like literally one day
1:23
to the other. And I looked it up online.
1:24
I was like, "Eco hotel like eco
1:26
resorts." And this one popped up and it
1:28
looked beautiful. So, it's like in the
1:29
jungle, but it's on the beach. So, it
1:32
only has a like bungalows or rooms or
1:35
however you want to call them. And the
1:36
owners are the Like this guy, he's
1:39
American. He's an American doctor lives
1:41
somewhere in Europe that I didn't get to
1:43
meet. And the Swedish man called Harold,
1:46
who's from Norway.
1:48
And he was
1:49
amazing. Like I still like I literally
1:51
just sent him an email. Like we still
1:53
stay in touch. Amazing in what way? He
1:55
was so sweet.
1:57
He was like the Oh yeah, he wasn't
1:58
there. He was like the best. I don't
2:01
know. He was so sweet. He decorated the
2:02
whole place. The whole place was
2:03
gorgeous and he decorated all himself.
2:06
And What else did he do? And then he he
2:09
cooked, he was sweet, he was very nice.
2:13
Say it too. So, he he the a guy that
2:17
work at the hotel who's going to be the
2:20
manager
2:21
soon. Um he's from my country. He's from
2:24
Venezuela. Mhm. And he was so sweet. And
2:27
they're my new friends. Fascinating.
2:29
What'd you do?
2:30
Well, we went with
2:33
um
2:34
Activities? Activities. We went on a
2:36
boat two times. They're called pangas,
2:38
which are like fisherman boats that are
2:40
but they're like bigger. And we went two
2:43
times, two different days to beaches and
2:46
and keys and islands. And we saw
2:48
dolphins and I have pictures with like
2:52
starfishes and sea urchins and sea
2:55
spiders and all this wildlife. I'm so
2:57
glad you're back.
3:01
It was beautiful. I missed you while you
3:03
were gone.
3:04
crystal clear. It's just gorgeous. We
3:06
should go there sometime together.
3:07
Oh yeah, so this whole story is because
3:09
I want to bring you with me
3:10
Mhm. sometime.
3:12
Yes.
3:13
And?
3:14
And that's it. Oh, the most amazing
3:16
thing is that they don't have So, they
3:17
don't have air conditioner, they don't
3:18
have TV. They have Wi-Fi though. But you
3:21
really get to disconnect. It sounds like
3:23
a lot of people will be like, "Oh, I'm
3:24
not going to go there." But you really
3:26
get to disconnect.
3:27
So, how do you get there?
3:27
plan is to is to like take my dad.
3:30
You fly from Panama City, Panama to
3:33
Okay, so this is funny. You You fly from
3:35
Panama They tell you it's an hour trip
3:37
and then you fly from Panama in this
3:39
plane and
3:42
that is very small. Propeller Mhm.
3:44
plane.
3:45
So, it's like, "Oh, you're going to So,
3:48
this happened. We're like, "Okay, we're
3:49
going to Bocas del Toro." And then we
3:51
landed and it says, "I welcome to
3:52
Changuinola." Um my mom and I are like,
3:55
"We jumped on the wrong plane. Like what
3:57
did just happen?" And I stood up and I
3:59
go to ask the flight assistant flight
4:01
attendant flight attendant.
4:03
Stewardess stewardess. Like, "Hey, so
4:07
are we in the wrong plane? We're
4:09
supposed to go to Bocas del Toro. Why
4:10
are we in Changuinola?"
4:12
And
4:13
they're like, "No, we're doing like a
4:14
little um Hop.
4:15
stop. Yeah. So, people get out and
4:17
people get in. Hop you go. So, people
4:19
get in and it's like, "Okay, now we're
4:21
going to Bocas del Toro. This will be a
4:22
7-minute flight." And I realized this
4:25
was like the shortest flight I've ever
4:26
been in my life.
4:27
Was it bumpy? It was supposed to be 7
4:28
minutes, but it was actually five. Too
4:30
rough? Not the second one. The first one
4:32
either was rough on the way back.
4:34
But then on the way back you fly
4:35
straight. So, it's like an hour. So,
4:37
it's not I mean, you think Panama is a
4:38
very small country and an hour flight is
4:40
like a long way.
4:41
Mhm. What'd you buy? Did you do some
4:43
shopping? Not there. Yeah, well, I mean,
4:45
while you were in your travels. No.
4:48
Lies and propaganda. You certainly did
4:50
do some shopping.
4:51
something or not.
4:54
Okay, let's go to break.
4:57
There you go.
4:58
Bye.

6:00
Welcome back to What's Cooking with
6:02
Paula Deen. I'm Bobby Deen and
6:04
I'm Claudia Deen and this is
6:07
nobody.
6:10
Our dog Coco is here. So, your hair
6:12
looks great, honey. This is a little
6:13
different.
6:14
Are you really going to talk about my
6:15
hair?
6:17
Your hair looks great, Claud.
6:19
Are you making fun of my hair?
6:20
Nope. So,
6:22
as you may or may not know, my hair is
6:24
very very very straight. Get out.
6:27
I don't even own a
6:29
How would I know that?
6:30
I don't even
6:31
We only live together and are married. I
6:32
don't even own
6:34
a What's it called? Curling iron. No.
6:36
Brush. No, I do have a curling iron.
6:38
Deodorant.
6:39
Toothbrush.
6:41
Toilet.
6:43
Shower. How's it called?
6:44
House? Molly.
6:46
Car.
6:49
Comb. Hair dryer. Hair dryer.
6:51
Hair dryer.
6:51
Hair dryer. I got one and I don't have
6:53
any hair. How come you don't have a hair
6:54
dryer? I have a hair dryer because my
6:56
hair is so straight.
6:57
So, I have What happened?
7:00
I have three different types of curling
7:02
iron that I've been trying to curl my
7:03
hair with.
7:04
And I'm not very successful at it. So,
7:06
my mom gave me this trick. She sent me
7:08
like a video tutorial that she made for
7:10
me. And I did it today to try it. And
7:14
when I What's the trick?
7:15
finished it, when I took it out Well,
7:17
you like grab your hair like this and
7:19
you do like this.
7:20
All right. And then you put like a
7:21
little clip like this. All right. Ding.
7:25
Is that what you did today?
7:26
Yeah, this morning. Well, it looks
7:27
really nice.
7:27
No. That happened and then you lose it
7:30
for 4 hours and then when I took it out
7:31
4 hours? Yes. My hair I look like a
7:35
lion. I literally look like it didn't
7:37
have form or shape. Sorry, Mom. But it
7:40
was like all over the place. It looked
7:41
good, but it was like too much. So, I
7:42
have to put this. That's what I pin it
7:44
up.
7:45
Okay.
7:46
The space that you live in really

8:40
We're back. Welcome back to What's
8:42
Cooking with Paula Deen. I'm here with
8:44
my wife Claudia Deen.
8:46
We had a really great book signing today
8:49
at the Lady and Sons restaurant.
8:51
My mom and my brother Jamie and my
8:53
nephew Jack were all there.
8:55
was there? Jack was there and we had a
8:57
really good turnout and
9:00
um always a good time meeting Mom's fans
9:02
and and uh getting to take pictures and
9:04
sign books and stuff. This is our dog
9:06
Coco.
9:07
Hey, Wiki. She's very dramatic.
9:08
This is Let me tell you Let me tell you
9:10
the story about this dog.
9:11
Okay, okay, okay. Okay. I My wife asked
9:13
me for a dog a couple of a couple of
9:16
years ago and I really really really
9:19
didn't want to get a dog.
9:22
And I said, "Let me look into dogs and
9:26
um kind of on my own." I didn't tell you
9:29
that I was doing it. I was like, "Let me
9:30
look into dogs and see what kind of dog
9:31
we can have." So, I didn't want a dog
9:34
that was going to shed
9:36
I wanted a huge lab that sheds a lot.
9:38
Yes.
9:39
Three. Sh- Yes. And she wanted them in
9:42
the house and in the bed and just
9:44
everywhere. A lab is completely
9:45
uncontrollable. They will do whatever
9:47
they would like to do whenever they
9:48
would like to do it. So, I said, "Let me
9:51
look into dogs a little bit." And so, I
9:53
started investigating. And here's what I
9:55
found. If you would like a dog that does
9:57
not shed, that does not smell, that does
10:00
not want to
10:02
get in the pool or the pond or the marsh
10:06
or the
10:07
whatever you live in, Get a stuffed
10:08
animal. get a Havanese. No, get a
10:11
stuffed animal. Oh, get a Havanese. What
10:13
are you talking about? Get a Havanese.
10:14
They're hypoallergenic, they don't shed,
10:16
they don't smell, and they don't Here's
10:18
why Okay, here's here's the thing.
10:22
I didn't want dog hair in the bed.
10:24
But you're still going to go to a
10:25
shelter and rescue one. No, we're Yes,
10:27
we I didn't want dog hair in the bed,
10:30
and we are really fortunate to have a
10:32
beautiful pool at the house, and I
10:34
didn't All I could think about was
10:36
here's this big old lab swimming in the
10:38
pool all the time, and I would hate
10:40
that. I would did not want
10:41
People are going to think you're really
10:41
picky.
10:42
So, we got So, we got So, we got a
10:44
Havanese, and I gave it to Cloud as a
10:47
gift last Christmas, and um
10:50
little did I know that I was going to
10:52
fall in love with the dog. So, our dog,
10:55
Coco, owns my heart. She's amazing, and
10:59
um
10:59
And we're still going to go So, they
11:01
hear what I'm saying.
11:02
really lucky. We had a happy accident.
11:04
dog. In like February,
11:07
um we have this pool, and I was like,
11:09
"Man, I don't want a dog that keep wants
11:11
to get in the pool." How lucky were we
11:13
that Coco fell in the pool in February?
11:16
Um so, she discovered that she didn't
11:18
like the pool
11:20
or water.
11:21
And Cloud had to go in and get her in
11:22
February in the pool.
11:23
That was still your job.
11:24
So, Coco never ever ever in life wants
11:27
to get in the pool again, so it's
11:28
perfect. She doesn't shed, she doesn't
11:29
stink, she doesn't want to get in the
11:31
pool.
11:32
If you want to know
11:34
uh where my mama's going to be and what
11:35
she's going to be doing, you can go to
11:37
pauladeen.com, and you can look at her
11:40
uh schedule. Um we do the book signings
11:42
once a month, like I said, here in
11:44
Savannah. So, go to pauladeen.com, and
11:46
you can find out exactly where mama's
11:47
going to be and what she's going to be
11:49
doing, and if you uh want to come to the
11:51
Savannah and and go to a book signing,
11:53
you can do that, too. So,
11:55
this has been another episode of What's
11:57
Cooking with Paula Deen. So, thanks for
11:58
watching and listening, and we'll see
12:00
you next time.
12:02
Bye, y'all.
12:03
So natural.
12:04
saying that.
12:06
Mucho gusto, y'all. Thank you, Bruce.
