I heard today's gonna be a very, very, very sweet day
0:04
It's a sweet touch day, y'all. Starting off, y'all, you know I don't know what's sweeter
0:08
these tomato tarts with sweet sausage or my boy Jamie? Can Mama have a kiss
0:13
Sure, Mama. Just one little quick kiss. Next, y'all are not gonna believe this sweet bacon vinaigrette
0:19
that's going right on top of those scrumptious green bean bundles. Oh, my gracious honey, hush
0:26
And then Jamie's putting together a sweet twist on pork chops with an amazing blackberry glaze
0:33
Finally, we've got a pink lemonade layer cake that's just bound to put a smile on your face
0:39
I am in here with Paula's original sweet thing. I want to know what you're going to dazzle all of us with
0:52
This that we're going to start with today, Mom, is one of my favorite recipes
0:55
And it's a pink lemonade cake. Yum. And it could not be easier. Now, what we're starting with is a simple white box cake mix
1:03
The one that we're using today is pretty standard. Yeah. We've got three tablespoons of oil that's going in here and three eggs
1:10
All right. Now, Jamie, how much zest do you need? We're going to need one teaspoon of that zest, Mom. Okey-doke
1:17
Now, that's not on the box. That's one of the things that we're going to do differently. Right. And I've got one and a third cup of water
1:23
You know, I love a cake mix, Jamie. You know, for those days that you're running tight
1:30
There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with using a box cake mix
1:34
Because you can bump them up so, you know, they can be just crazy good
1:40
That's what we're going to do to this one. Well, I'm going to crack your eggs for you
1:45
I'm going to start blending these now. Speaking of eggs. Here we go. How many chicken little lay this morning
1:50
Let me tell you, now I don't have but seven chickens, y'all. Yesterday morning, I had five eggs
1:58
This morning, I had four. Those are some happy chickens. All right, two teaspoons of vanilla, one teaspoon of the zest for Jamie
2:10
This zest is going to be so nice. That's where a lot of the flavor is going to come
2:14
Yeah, I love citrus cakes. Okay, and here comes our pink lemonade
2:19
All right, so no juice, son, from the lemon. No, ma'am, just the zest
2:23
So that's one, two. Is that going to turn it kind of pink? A little bit
2:28
Let's see. Yes. Well, I'm going to come over here and grab the pans and get those sprayed for you
2:39
Oh, it didn't turn it too, too pink. You did it. Nope, not too much
2:43
Hopefully after it bakes off, it will. All right, we have lined our cake pans
2:49
With a little brown parchment Yes, that's gonna assure that our cake is gonna come out nicely
2:59
So I measure it out using these measuring cups. I love my measuring cups. This is the way I like to do it
3:06
one in one pan One in the other so that way I know I've got them evenly separated. So this is the second cup
3:19
Okie doke. Alright. Alright, so we're going to put these in the oven, y'all, 350 for 25 to 35 minutes
3:34
And Jamie, let's get started on these delicious tomato tarts, son. We're going to make a dish that has been around 100 years
3:42
So we're taking four sausages without the casing. Now, I'm going to add into our bowl three cups of a biscuit mix
3:50
Okay. And we're going to mix that with the sausage and just roll them into balls
3:55
This has got everything in it. Look it. My son's so talented
4:04
I love it. So I'm going to cut these in half, Mom
4:09
And we're not going to cook this beforehand. We're just gonna break it up and we're gonna need two cups of grated cheese son
4:18
and this is one of those recipes where you know I just I just go in with my hands y'all
4:25
It's one of those you just have to work that biscuit mix into the meat
4:30
Two cups of cheese mom? Yes, and we're using a sharp cheddar
4:35
All right, I'm going to go ahead and start digging for it, okay, son? Okay
4:45
Now, the warmth from my hands is going to kind of break down the cheese a little bit
4:52
as well as that sausage, and that's what I want it to do
4:58
Now we're just going to form them into balls, y'all. This is pretty dry, too, so don't be discouraged
5:03
It is. Then just press it in with your thumb. Right here and then just take your tomato cut side up and nestle it right down in your sausage and that it And that it And we on our way Cool These are good cherry tomatoes
5:20
Yeah. So, y'all can see that this is a little twist on one of those very old yet reliable recipes
5:30
And talking about reliable, can Mama have a kiss? Sure, Mama. Just one little quick kiss
5:37
These are not going to rise up too much, Jamie, so I think we almost can slip in another row of them
5:44
and then we'll get these in the oven. Can't wait to eat these. And I know it
5:48
They're going to be so good. Love the idea of the tomato on them, son
5:52
So this is looking good, Jamie. Okay, we got these done? We're going to get these in the oven, 350 for 15 to 20 minutes
6:01
Awesome. I'm going to keep just stuffing this, and we'll get up another pan and load it up
6:06
Don't go anywhere because I'm in here with Paula's original sweet thing
6:12
Thanks, Mom. Coming up, we're topping green beans with a sweet bacon vinaigrette
6:17
and smothering our pork chops with an amazing blackberry glaze. Isn't this yummy
6:23
It's so good. And later... All we need is dessert. We're going to be putting the final touches on our lemonade cake, y'all
6:31
Look, son. Now let me tell y'all what I did. The last three minutes, I changed the oven setting to broil
6:45
So it kind of roasted off those little tomatoes on top. They look delicious
6:51
They look delicious. Oh, thank you, son. Ladies first. And they're going to be hot as blue blazes, son
6:58
You know what? This is so hot, Jamie. Why don't we take our plates down here and start on our warm bacon dressing
7:08
And I'm going to let mine cool for a second. I actually like little sausage balls at room temperature
7:16
So it's good. Just have one little bite. Okay. Y'all, these are delicious
7:24
Are they? Oh, gosh. They are hot, but they are so good
7:31
I love sausage balls. It's hot, Mom. Ooh, ooh, ah, ah. Mmm
7:43
Another wiener, Jamie Dean. Mm-hmm. All right, Jamie is fixed to make us a wonderful warm bacon vinaigrette to go on top of our green bean bundles
7:52
So put me to work, son. Drizzled over a green bean bundle. Now, we used to do these for a lot of parties that we did
7:57
Yes, when we would do fancy catering jobs. Fancy schmancy. Mm-hmm. We've cooked off some bacon, y'all
8:03
And I'm going to use what we've rendered out of that bacon, and I'm going to do two shallots
8:08
Well, I'll come down here and start making our carrot ribbons. Okay, you want to switch
8:13
Yes. All right. I'm just going to cut us some strips. And for your carrot strips, the great big fat carrots work really, really good, y'all
8:28
This is what we're going to use to tie up our bundles of green beans with
8:34
My favorite flavors are when we get a good combination of salty and sweet
8:38
So we've got the renderings from our bacon here with the shallots that we've cooked down
8:42
Now I'm going to add the sweet. This is a quarter cup of brown sugar down in here that's going to make it so sticky and delicious
8:49
All right, now I'm just going to grab my green beans. We have blanched off some green beans, and it doesn't take but a few minutes
8:55
Just a little bundle. About five or six. Yeah. And I'm just going to take my carrot and wrap it around just like that
9:04
You can try to tie it or you can twist it and lay it on the seam
9:09
So there we go. There's so many different things that you can tie these up with
9:16
You just want to make sure it's edible. We cook these shallots now with the brown sugar in our rendering
9:30
so I'm going to add two-thirds of a cup of balsamic. And I'm going to reduce this just a little bit
9:37
and then we're going to spoon it over as green bean bundles. Boy, Heidi, that balsamic took it to another level, didn't it
9:45
It's going to be delicious. Yes, it is. Love hot bacon dressing
9:52
Well, Mama, I've got enough dressing here for about 25 bundles, and you've done five
9:57
You want some help? I would love some help. I think these would be perfectly fine
10:12
Here's the last one. Beautiful, son. Okay, here we go, mom. I'm gonna spoon this on
10:19
We're not gonna use a lot of this, mom, because this is, do you smell that balsamic? Yes
10:24
So I just gonna drizzle a little bit on each one of these ribbons And we gonna crumble up our bacon and we put it on it when we take them out How about that Sounds good Oh my gracious honey
10:35
Now, this is going to go into the oven for pre-50 for about 15 or 20 minutes
10:39
Okay. And while we're cooking these, Mama, let's get our pork chops started. You wanted to
10:44
I am with you on that one. So Jamie's going to be helping me make pork chops
10:49
with blackberries, y'all. This is pretty simple from the outset, y'all. All we're going to do on these is a little bit of our house seasoning on our pork chops
10:57
Mama, if you will, let's get some oil and some butter going in this pan. Okay
11:03
Four tablespoons of oil. We're going to use some butter, of course. And four tablespoons of butter
11:09
And we want it to be fairly hot because these are rather thin pork chops
11:14
We're going to saute them for about two minutes per side. This has just got our simple house seasoning recipe on it
11:20
And if y'all don't know at home, it's a super simple recipe. It's a cup of salt, a quarter cup of garlic powder, and a quarter cup of black pepper
11:27
And Mama's put some in a ball jar here and just keeps it up on the counter. But if you want to put it in a shaker, I promise you, you'll use this on a lot of things. Yeah
11:34
Mommy, do you think this is hot enough? Yeah, I think our oil and butter is hot enough, y'all. Right
11:40
So that's great. This pan is perfect to hold full pork chops
11:44
So like I said, about two minutes per side. and when we come back, this sweet thing's gonna make us another sweet thing
11:50
to go on top of these fabulous pork chops. We're doing a blackberry sauce, y'all, when we come back
11:55
Yum. Up next, we're finishing off this meal that's looking just as good as it is sweet
12:02
We got some gray colors going on, Jamie. And later, I don't think I'm gonna be able to hold Jamie back
12:07
as we finish up our pink lemonade cake. It's genius is what it is
12:12
hey y'all welcome back mama our pork chops are done okay so what we're gonna do is i'm gonna
12:20
take these out and we're gonna use all the juice down in this pan to help kick start our sauce
12:25
some lovely juices in the meantime while you're doing that son i'm gonna chop up that wonderful
12:31
bacon that we fried up for your dressing i'm gonna deglaze this pan y'all with about a half
12:38
a cup of a dry white wine. Okay. Half a cup. And I am
12:44
mincing up our bacon because we're going to take it and sprinkle over our
12:50
green bean bundles. And I'm going to get all the sticky parts up
12:54
off the bottom of this pan. And it's going to be so good
12:59
Okay. Now, I'm going to cook this down for just a second, but Mama, I want you to put these
13:02
blackberries down in here. Okay. And let's let those soak up a little bit
13:07
You want all of them? Yes, ma'am. Okie dokie. Don't want to get these on your clothes, y'all
13:13
Nope. Because the blue from these blackberries... They'll stay with you. Yeah, you'll never get them out of your clothes
13:21
What do you think that is, son? This is probably about two cups of blackberries, y'all. That's what I would think
13:28
As soon as these cook down, I'm going to stick these pork chops back into this berry sauce and let it all get married together
13:34
Son, would you mind passing me that wrapped green beans, please? Oh, look how pretty these turned out
13:41
Oh, they're beautiful. Oh, it's just barely warm. Yeah. I'm going to just sit it over there while I transfer them to our platter
13:52
I'm going to go ahead and get our thyme down in here, y'all. I've got about a tablespoon
14:00
Looks delicious. It smells so good. And while this is cooking down, I think I'm going to do Mama a little bit of lemon for our garnish
14:09
Okay. All righty. That's about all I can fit on that platter, y'all
14:15
So now I'm just going to take my bacon and just sprinkle it on top of our green beans
14:20
Save some for the cake, Mom. The cake? Oh, yeah. Mama, can I have some bacon on my pink lemonade cake, please
14:28
Yes, you may. Mmm. Now, the last thing that we're going to add here, Mom, is about a tablespoon of honey
14:34
Okay. And I'm just going to eyeball that. Yay. Good eye. It's looking..
14:40
Looks great. Yeah. The blackberries are starting to kind of break down now in the heat
14:45
and your sauce almost looks like it's trying to thicken up. Okay, now I'm going to nestle these pork chops back down in this sauce
14:52
Mm-hmm. Now we're cooking. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And I think this is going to take about five minutes, Mom
15:08
Mmm. I love the little green pieces of thyme in there, y'all
15:14
You don't want to overcook them because pork is such a lean cut of meat that there's not a lot of fat in there
15:18
And once they dry out, it's hard to get juice back into them. To me, I think it needed just a wee bit of salt, Jamie
15:24
and a little bit of pepper. Very, very unusual flavors going on in there, y'all
15:32
So how about it? Let's start plating this meal, Jamie. All right sonny boy I swap with you Looks good son I just kind of ease myself over here closer to a fork
15:52
Look how pretty that is. That's beautiful colors. Beautiful. There you go, son
16:01
Is there room for two of us on this cutting board? I believe there is. Remember when you were a little boy and I'd swap you all of my meat for your bone
16:10
Then I got smarter. And then you got smart, dadgummit. Mmm. What you eating
16:21
I'm eating pork chops. I'm eating green bean bunnies. This is so good. That is awesome
16:26
I'm just going to pull me out. Mmm. Balsamic vinaigrette is one of my favorites
16:32
It is so good on those crunchy beans. A little bit of bacon, great day
16:37
Isn't this yummy? It is so good. You know, it's certainly different
16:43
It is different. Mmm. Look, I have managed to somehow put bacon on top of my very pork chop
16:53
Oops. That's because I have a very talented son. We've got far from the tree around here, y'all
16:59
I know this is different from the pork chops that you're used to making, Mama. But it is a fine dinner
17:04
These are awesome green beans. All we need is dessert. So when we come back..
17:09
Oh, gosh. Did y'all forget about that pink lemonade cake? No, I did not. I didn't either
17:13
I did not forget. I bet y'all didn't either. We're gonna top it off and taste it as soon as we get back
17:18
Y'all stick around. Yes. Coming up, y'all, we're gonna be topping off this pink layer cake
17:23
with something unique and special. Now, you know that has to make one smile
17:32
Welcome back, y'all. Now, here's the cake that we've been working on the whole show
17:37
This is the pink lemonade cake. What Mama's doing, she's got some wax paper
17:41
and we're going to put these on the edges so when we set our cake down
17:45
we keep all the edges really pretty. We'll have a keen cake plate
17:51
We'll have a clean cake plate. Jimmy, your layers are beautiful, son
17:56
It's genius is what it is. There's exactly the same amount in each one
18:02
As long as it's frosted, you can't tell. But when you go to cut, it's important to me that they're the same layer
18:10
Now we're going to take the parchment paper off our layers and then get started on our icing
18:16
I've got a pound of powdered sugar. Okay. I'm going to be zesting your lemon for you
18:21
I've got two sticks of butter. Okay. I've got your lemon zest ready
18:27
I'm going to start adding your pink lemonade concentrate. One. That will be two
18:33
And you want to add this slowly, y'all. Three, four, and five
18:43
All right, sonny boy. There goes your lemon zest. And now I'm going to throw you in one teaspoon of vanilla flavoring
18:54
And just that quickly and easily, we have our icing. and I'm gonna
19:01
put me a generous dollop. Powdered sugar, y'all
19:11
makes the best icing because it's got such body and it's just easy to work with
19:28
Looks like a cotton candy cake. Doesn't it? It's just beautiful, isn't it, y'all
19:35
Yum. All right, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Put your fork down, Sonny Boy
19:42
We got to make it look real pretty before we cut it up and devour it. It's not time to eat cake yet
19:48
Now, I have made a little tussie-mussie, a little bundle of flowers
19:53
Now, you know that has to make one smile. Now, sonny boy, my angel, my darling, my love, it's time to eat cake
20:04
Are you sure? I'm positive. Awesome. Are you ready? I'm ready. Okay
20:12
Oh, my. Oh, look. Mmm
20:26
Mmm. Ooh. Isn't this delicious
20:38
That's awesome. Son, I love the cake part. Just as light as a feather
20:43
Thank you, baby. Thanks, Mom. I enjoy every minute that I have in the kitchen with you
20:49
Best dishes, y'all. From her kitchen to yours. Best dishes, y'all. Love ya
20:54
Love you. Love you
