Red Hot Party

Hey, y'all

Tonight on Paula's Party, we're going to be having some red hot fun

Oh. Excuse me. I'm feeling like a tart today, honey. Just today

And you know what, girls? It don't get no hotter than extras Mario Lopez

Feel right there high hard. I feel like a puppy. And red velvet sandwich cookies

Yes. And then we got our very own ravishing redhead from the view, Joy Behar

Wait, my hair is frizzing. Excuse me. And red hot wings. And you know what

Nobody knows hot like America's next top model stylist, Jay Manuel. He's going to be making strawberry margarita mousse

and it's all red hot tonight. So let's get ready and party! Yeah

¶¶ ¶¶ ¶¶ ¶Â

Welcome to the party

Welcome to the party. I guess y'all have picked up on the fact that

today is a red hot party. And y'all look fabulous. And you girls, I have got the hottest of hots to start our party

Mario Lopez! Thank you. Good to see you, my dear

Hello, everybody. All right. Now, this is what I call a red hot party

Everybody's got the red, the boas. It's my kind of party right here. Is he not beautiful

Oh, goodness. Y'all, he came to my dressing room a little while ago

And I know I said the same thing. Paula. And I couldn't help but feel of him

You know, and I said, I went up to his hair. I said, boy, everything on you is hard

Well, she doesn't mean it like that. And I'm standing up here caressing your book

Oh, well, thank you. Oh, my goodness. Look at this. Oh. Excuse me

Honey, just because we've got snow on the roof

don't mean our fire's out, David. I love that one. We can look, can't we

Isn't that pretty? Snow on the roof, the fire is not out

I like that one. I'm going to steal that one. Would you like to touch the real thing, honey

How are you doing, my dear? Nice to meet you. Feel right here, how hard

Oh, my gosh. Feel right there, how hard. I feel like a puppy

Oh, I don't mean to make you feel like a puppy. No, it's okay. It's okay

We're going to cook. I love to eat, so this is great. Okay, Paula, what are we going to make

I am going to show you how. to make the most wonderful red velvet sandwich cookies

Ooh, that sounds delicious. Do you like red velvet cake? Yes, I love it. Well, this is much like red velvet cake, y'all

but we're going to do like little individual cakes. Oh, okay. What do we do? Step one. This is good

I can make this. Can I make this? Oh, you can add some. Because I can barely boil water. You can blow some girl out of the water

That's what I'm talking about. That's what I need to know there. Not that you need a sandwich cookie to do it with

I'll take what I can get. But you can. All right, now in here I've got all-purpose flour, cocoa, bacon powder, bacon soda, and a little salt

Okay. So if you would now take your mixer. What is this? What's in here

This is sugar and butter that we have just creamed up together

Sugar and butter. Uh-huh. Okay, now I go with this. Okay, sit it down right here

All right, okay. Take your mixer. This deal? That deal. There you go

All right. Do you want to beat or crack? Do I have to choose

I like to beat and then crack Okay, well you can do both of them

And I'll just kind of stand back here I'm a bit of a novice I'm going to be like I'm very

I like to I make cereal I can wash grapes That's about the

I can grill a little bit Wash grapes That's my thing I'm telling you what

I can see why you've made it so big Alright, now pick up

Get a little mixer And start beating it Just beat it, baby Beat it Beat here, beat here

Beat here No, beat there I don't know Hold on There we go

Stick your thing in there and beat it. I'll stick, well. All right

No comment there. All right. Wait, do I stop when you do that? No, you don't stop, honey. You don't stop till Mama yells

Oh. I love when I have a woman tell me what to do

Makes it so much easier. All right, there's another egg. There we go

All right, now we've got some buttermilk. This is fun. I know

We've got apple cider vinegar. See, I like how it is on the food. And kind of be careful right now because this is red food coloring

Is that red food coloring? Okay. This is vanilla. Vanilla. Okay. Butter milk

Butter milk. Okay. All right. Now, we're going to take our dry ingredients and we're going to dump those into the bowl

Y'all don't go anywhere because I know Mario is going to have a very special technique

Oh. that gets these dry ingredients into the wet bowl. It's going to be very special

So don't tell you red girls. I know it's going to be great. Next, I'm in red velvet heaven with Mario Lopez

And later, we're spicing things up with Joy Behar and Red Hot Wings

Hey y'all, welcome back. We're having a red hot show today. Yes, we are

Here at Paula's party. And I'm here with a beautiful red hot Mario Lopez

And I making him a red velvet sandwich cookie Mmm can wait All right now we just putting the last of our dry in Okay it looks like I gotta take it up a notch with the stirring right

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That looks pretty good. That looks really good. Red velvet is like my favorite

I love it. All right. I'm gonna say, I did a great job. Yes, you did

You did a fabulous job. I know how to stir. Oh! All right, now we're gonna scoop

Ice cream. Yes, this is an ice cream scoop. Okay, we're just gonna level it off now. You can make your sandwiches

Oh, baby. It's I love being close to you too. Is it too close? That's a little close. Oh, how okay? You want me to move them

Oh, that's okay. Yes, that's okay. Where do I put this guy? Put him right there

Yum now, why do they have to be so far apart? Look, they do your thing like that and it'll lay it let it out. Okay, see okay

Because we don't want them to stick together. So it's not like cookies where you can put them right in the kitchen

Yes, it's kind of, all right, put it right there. And level it off

There you go. Okay. Perfect. Now we're going to put these in a 375 degree oven

Okay. This will make three sandwiches. We're going to bake them, y'all, for 10 minutes

Nice. All right. All right. So in the oven that goes. That was a lot of work to just get in the oven

And now it's the oven's job. I mean, it was. I'm a little bit tired. It wasn't that hard

Now, listen. Yes, my dear. Probably most of the women in this room know you for Dancing with the Stars

Oh, when I was dancing on that? Sure. Yes. That was fun. Did you really like it

I had a good time. You know, they asked me the first couple seasons to do it. And I said no because I wasn't familiar with the show

And when I did see it, I didn't like the outfits that they were wearing. But it was my mom's favorite show

And like I told you, I'm a big mom's boy. Oh, look. There I am right there. I had to pick that pose

Great. Oh, my goodness. I'm doing the quick step there. But it was my mom's favorite show

Who was your partner? Her name is Karina Smirnov. Nice Russian girl

She was a very good teacher and great partner. But speaking of which, where are we at right now? We've been in the oven

I did all this hard work to put it in the oven. I know it. There's no result. What's the deal? Look at there

Where do we go now? Honey, you're in Paula World. All right. Look at here

All right. Look at that. All right. Our next step is going to be to make our frosting

Let's try. All right, now we've got cream cheese and butter here that we have creamed together

And we're putting... We've got powdered sugar, and we're just going to dump that in there

Dump the whole deal. All right, you start beating while I dump, okay? Okay, okay. And, whoa! Oh

Oh, oh, oh! Oh, let me get it. Hold on. Thank you

You're welcome. This is why you wear those little... Oh! All right, that's where I wear what, what, what, wear what

This is why we wear aprons, right? Yes. Because stuff like that happens. All right, so in this goes, and it doesn't take but a second, Mario, to beat this together

Okay. And then we're going to add a little vanilla. And then we're going to take our cooled cakes

Wow, so this is the meat for the sandwich, if you will, right

Yes, absolutely. This is a filling. There you go. Just beat the heck out of it

Oh, look it. Full blast. There you go. Full blast. Putting on a full beat. Do your hands like this in your bowl

Okay. There you go. Perfect. How's that? All right, it's ready. Let's do it

Just that quick. All right, now grab you a spatula. Okay. All right, and there's your piece of cake. Okay

And we're just going to take our frosting. Just like that. And we're going to fill it in between our two pieces of cake

Wow. When my children were little, I made chocolate gobs for them

And they were made kind of the similar idea. This is great

And then you just put them right on top of the other, right? Yes. Then we just fill it like that

And you could do a double deal. Like if I put more there and put this one on top, then I could do a big super sandwich

Oh, you absolutely could. Or you could take these cakes and you could fill them with ice cream

Oh, that's good. And then put them in the freezer. All right, now look what we're going to do. Oh, look at that

We're just going to roll that in nuts. You know what, though

Like, you know why I messed up? Because you got yours nice and you put a lot of... Yeah, you were stingy

I was stingy. I was... Well, you know, I don't want... We have a big audience. Okay, so I really got to lay it on

I really got to lay it on. Now you're talking. And see, you got to..

Wait, hold on. Look at mine. Look at mine. There you go. Hold on, now. You got to put enough so that when you squeeze it..

Yes, that's what I'm talking about right there. Yes. Look at that, you guys

That is what I'm talking about. Here, here. This is a good-looking sandwich

Wait, take a bite. Oh, good. Oh, my God. Isn't that good

The nuts and the cream cheese and the butter. Oh, my God, it's so good. And you appreciate it when you make it, right

Mm-hmm. Thank you for assisting me. Love it, love it, love it. No, I love this

I love you, too. But you know what? I think probably one of the things that I love you the most on is Extra

Oh, I have so much fun doing Extra. Well, I got to interview you, and you showed me around backstage

and you showed me all the great studios here at the Food Network. We did an interview right before we came out

The cool thing about Extra is that I get to meet great people like Paula. Get a little behind-the-scenes, so that's cool

This is a good-looking cookie, by the way. That is so sweet. But listen, I also love you on Dancing with the Stars

Oh, that was fun. You think you could show me some moves? Let's do it

The band, maybe? I'm going to have to put it down. Because I need all both hands

Okay, go. Right. Woo! Oh! Don't hold it, Wando! I'm stepping out on you, guys

Our big dip. Our big dip. Our big one. Our big dip, our dip, our dip

Oh! We'll see y'all back in a minute. Next, Joy Behar keeps the party going with spicy red wings

And later, America's next top model, Jay Manuel, shakes things up, y'all, with a strawberry margarita mousse

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah

Welcome back, y'all

I wish that you could be here in the studio today. We've got red tablecloths

Everybody's dressed in red. And y'all look so good. Y'all look so hot

And speaking of hot, we all have a favorite redhead, don't we

A lot of people, when they think of red hair, they think of Lucille Ball

Well, when I think of red hair, I think of my friend, Joy Behar

Come on out here girlfriend Oh it fabulous How are you

I'm fine. How are you? Good. I'm good. Nice to see you, Paul

Oh, it's so great to see you, Joy. You know, I thank you so much

This is delightful. With your little chandeliers and your things. Isn't it beautiful

I love it. I mean, we're like first class. Is that so? Yes

If you could have seen where we came from, honey. Coach. We usually call in coach

Go right ahead. Well, listen, in honor of you today, I'm going to be fixing you some red hot wings

Oh, goody. Because, you know, I think you're red hot. I like hot food

I love hot food. You do? Yeah. I do. Well, I tell you what. Now, we've got some wings here, Joy

Yeah, good. About a pound and a half of wings. And we've got some house seasoning

If you would just season those up. Whose house is this from? This is my house

Okay. This is our house seasoning that we use at the restaurant

Uh-huh. And we mix it up ourselves and we keep big buckets around. Is this good for a buffet

Because my apartment, I have to tell you, Robert Verde, you know Robert Verde

He's a designer. Anyway, he came over to my apartment. And I had a dining room table with chairs and I had a living room

And he said, you cannot have these two things going on in this room

It's too much in the room. He got rid of my dining room table. Now I have no place to eat

And I had to get a bigger apartment just to have a dining room to sit at. No

Because I've been eating standing up all these months. Well, why did he do that? Honey, take it

But so this is something that you can eat standing up. Oh, absolutely. All right

You don't need a table to eat this. That's my kind of party. You know what? I eat a lot of my meals in the bed anyway

All right, so just take this house seasoning and just sprinkle. Can I do it

Yes. Oh, yes. I want you to. What's in here exactly in the house seasoning? In the house seasoning, it's salt, pepper, garlic powder, and I also like to throw in a little onion powder

Oh, yeah. All right, so just pick those up with your hand. We can't make them touch. Yes

All right. I can't use this? Yes, if you like to. But because, see, I like to touch my food

Yeah, but chicken. I like, I know it, but we just wash our hands. Yeah, but then if you touch chicken and then you touch somebody else, you give them some kind of touch

Oh, I won't touch anything else. I mean, you're not supposed to touch anything

No. Well, see, well, you know. Isn't that true? You know, as long as we got soap and water

See, it doesn't bother me because I like to really rub my seasonings into my meat

But you're exactly right, especially when you're working with chicken. Well, look at you

Aren't you equipped? She has a sink and everything. I'm telling you, we're first class around here

I have not touched any chicken. You didn't touch it. Did not touch it

All right, well, go ahead and put that in the oven. And we're going to cook that. Yeah, that's it

We're going to cook that in the oven, Joy, for Owen Luka there

My eyelashes are melting. Oh, my God. I did that one time

I opened up my broiler, and it was so hot. And I went and looked in the mirror like 30 minutes later

All that was on there was the bands. My eyelashes were gone

All right, now, if you would, Joy, here in Paula World, they're already ready

Oh. So if you would pull out that bottom... Oh, no, don't

Just leave it for a minute. I'll do it. Just leave it for a minute. No, I'll do it. Because we've got to make our sauce for our hot wings

Those are not done. No, they're not done. We're cooking those just for like 20 minutes

It's a little hot down there. Yeah. Okay, here. Perfect. Whoa, and I got my hair too hot and it's choking me

Do you like to drink while you cook a little alcohol? You know what? Do you want to do that? Knock down a few glasses of wine while you're cooking

You know, I don't. No? I knocked down diet soda. Oh, yeah

Oh, so I'm the alcoholic. Okay. Whatever. You know what? Now, I just added, y'all, a fourth of a cup of pomegranate juice that we cooked down

Oh, very nice. Is your turn these over now? Well, let me tell you what we're going to do

All right, now we're going to put in some barbecue sauce, and we're going to put in some honey

and we're going to let this simmer. Okay. And we're going to take a quick break

and then we're going to come back and we're going to deep fry these

Ow! Is it hot? Oh, my God. This is a dangerous shot

It's hot! While I go tender my wounds, y'all run to the bathroom

Get your drink, potty, and we'll be right back in a minute

Did you touch me? I'm not redhead. Put me on the water

Next, Joy takes a red-hot bite out of my spicy wings. And later, y'all, it's strawberry margarita mousse

with that red-hot J. Manuel. Why the lime juice and the limeade

Because we just want to tart it up. Oh, God. Wow

You're in good company, honey. Wow, Mario, he's letting himself go. He has

I noticed a soft spot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Somewhere around here. It's a mess

Welcome back, y'all. I'm here with one of my favorite redheads of all time, Joy Behar

And we're making some red hot wings. Now, we just took these out of the oven

I just went and popped my blister. And we're going to keep on keeping on

Now, you know what? Now, we're going to deep fry these. And while these are frying, Joe... You're going to fry them now

Yes, we're going to fry them now. By pre-cooking them a little bit, Joey, it's going to make them crispier

Oh, very good. So we're just going to drop these in the fryer. Oh, these are slimming

Yes. And while these are cooking, I've just got a couple of things that I want to ask you about

Yeah. You say that you can look in somebody's fridge and tell what kind of person they are

Well, no, I read a study that said that you can tell who you're going to vote for by what is in your refrigerator

Who you're going to vote for? Yes. Like, for instance, if you have a latte, if you're going to get a latte, you're going to vote for Obama

And if you want a bourbon and some pizza, you're going to vote for John McCain

Now, I have all of that in my refrigerator, so that makes me a political slut

But I heard that you had Obama and McCain on the other day

We did. Was that interesting for you? Oh, yes. Barack Obama is very strangely in some way related to Brad Pitt

I heard. Don't you love it? I heard that. Yeah, right. I heard that

You find there are very interesting things about people. And John McCain has revealed that in his early days, he used to go to strip clubs

John McCain did? Yes. But is there a man living that's never done that

Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. So now these things get smothered in the oil

Yes, see. For how long? And where did you get this? Who has this in their kitchen

I do. I know you do. Do other people have that? Yeah, some people

You know, if you're ever thinking about redoing your kitchen, I mean, I could not do without my deep fryer

And it's just this simple. You just have them installed in the counter. That very interesting All right What else is an essential to put in the kitchen in your opinion Well a stove helps Oh yeah a stove We know That helps And a refrigerator And a refrigerator yes How about a warming tray

Do you love a warming tray? You know, I've got a warming drawer that I have never used

Oh, really? No, because we eat as soon as I get it ready. Yeah, it's too good

That's right. Yeah. Okay. So now what's in here? You know what I do love

Now, this is our sauce that's been simmered down. We've added our barbecue sauce

We've added our honey, and now we're going to add a couple of tablespoons of butter

So you can stir that around, and when we take up our hot wings..

With this? Okay. Yeah. Yeah, just stir it up with that. Now what

So when we take these up, we're going to put them in our bowl, and you can just slather them with the sauce

and I'm going to be just cutting some tortilla shells, and I'll deep fry those for us to munch along with while we're sucking on our wings

Okay. We'll be sucking out the fat pretty soon. We all know, and I don't know why I'm thinking of this right now

but Joy, you are the only original... Member. You member. I know I am

I'm the real survivor. How about that? Yeah. Is that good? That is so good

Is that good or bad? I can't tell. You know, that says a lot about you. What does it say? It says that you're flexible. No

No, it says you're flexible. You don't take yourself so seriously that you can make bad judgments

I mean, it says a lot of good things about you. That's nice. Thank you. You're welcome

So maybe I'll stay for a little while. Well, I watch y'all

Well, the show is also, we also have time off, you know. So it's not like, you know

And last year, I went to Italy on my time off. Have you ever been to Italy

I have, but I've only been to Venice. Oh. I want to go to Italy where, you know, go into the countryside Italy

Yeah, yeah. You know, and I want to go knock on somebody's door and say, would you let me eat supper with you

Yeah, no, but they would probably say okay. They'd say okay there because they're like that

As long as it's about food, they'll let you in the door. Yes. You know, Italians remind me very much of Southerners

They're very into family and food. That's right. And lots of it

That's true. And gambling. You know I love to gamble. Well, I do, too

You know, I'm an Italian-American girl. Oh, my goodness. And I was just in Atlantic City recently

And they're so obsessed. Everybody is so obsessed. I got in the elevator, and someone said

would you press the hard eight? That is an obsession. All right, now, pour our sauce on

Yeah. I'm going to toss. I'm going to toss. I'm starting to toss like y'all up here in New York City

I'm going to toss. Yeah. Toss that into the oil. Wait, my hair is frizzing

Excuse me. That's a deal breaker. All right. Now you stand back over there

I'll take the heat, honey. All right. No, listen. I'm a slot slut, Joey

Oh, my God. I love slot machines. Oh, my dear. And when those bells ring and lights go off

Right. I like blackjack. I love blackjack. I love three-card poker. No, I don't play that

You don't? No. Well, let's make a date to go gambling. To Atlantic City

I would so love it. Oh, sure. Anytime. Yes. I would so love that

This looks good. Doesn't this look good? Yes. And look at these delicious chips

All right, Joy, now I want you to taste these, honey, and tell me what you think. Do you put the chicken on this Dorito thing

Oh, well, if you want to, but I wouldn't. Oh. I'd hold a chip in one hand and a wang in another

A wang? A wang. Or a wang. That could get a little tricky

What do you think? I love it. We'll be right back, y'all

Joy Behar. Fabulous red-headed woman. Fabulous. Next, J. Manuel is going to be joining my red-hot party with Margarita Moose

People say models don't eat. Trust me, the models I hang around, they need the dessert first. . . . . . . . . . . .

Welcome back, y'all. Have y'all had a good time today? Yes! Y'all are all welcome to come back

And to finish us up, I've got the cutest young man that y'all are all going to recognize

He is from America's Next Top Model. This is the guy that all of us girls, we would love to have him for our best friend

Because he could teach us everything we needed to know about being pretty and being a model

can't wait for y'all to meet him. Jay Manuel! Come on out

Hey! Go look at your little jay. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

I love this. How are you? Hold on. You're looking at the hair

I'm looking at the hair. I'm looking at the hair. Give me a hug

Oh, I will. I love you. And I love you. I enjoy watching you on the tube so much

Okay, you're staring at my hair. It's making me self-conscious now. Oh, my God

I know. There's a lot of products. You guys have the hardest hair these days

Look at his teeth. Look at his teeth. Hey, they're natural. No veneers

Oh, come on. Never wore braces, ever. No. Let me see them one more time

See, they're crooked. No, they're just enough to. They're beautiful. Now, do you dye your hair that color

Yeah, like everyone else. We were just talking about that in the back. My hair is jet black

I probably have three silver hairs. But actually, because I was coming on here today, I thought, uh-uh, I need to get those roots gone last night

I had to touch it up just for you so we can match, you know? Great. I mean, we do match, don't we

Okay. Aren't we supposed to cook something? Yes, we are. But I'm so busy looking at you

All right. Yes, I'm going to make you a strawberry margarita mousse

Okay. I love dessert. You know that, right? No, I didn't know that

I mean, you don't look like you would eat a lot of desserts. I don't know where this whole thing is where people say models don't eat

Trust me, the models I hang around, they eat the dessert first. Oh, do they? Yes, they do

So I want you to fill me all in. All right, now I'm going to add some sugar here. Okay

And then I'm going to turn this over to you. I'm adding a three-ounce package of gelatin product

Subtle. Just think on top model. All right, now stir that up. Okay

All right, you get right there and you stir it up. And I'm going to..

Oh, excuse me. I'm not... Uh-huh. I'm not getting fresh with you, Jay

You know, my mother warned me about you. She did. She did

Yes, I'm the woman that all mothers warn their sons about. Now I'm adding four egg yolks

You know, I'm into younger men. My husband's nine years younger than me. What

It's not a lot. No, it's not a lot. It's like perfect. All right

All right. Now, honey, we got some beverages, lime juice, lemon juice, limeade, orange juice, and red

food coloring. Okay. But now why the lime juice and the limeade? Because we just want to tart it up

Oh, okay. I'm feeling like a tart today, honey. Just today? Just today

Oh, okay. No, just about every day of my life, honey, to be truthful. Well, listen, now, you do a show with Tyra Banks

Is that correct? That's right. I was watching her just this morning. She is, like, gorgeous

She is? She is beautiful. She is. And actually, what I love about Tyra is I love the way she looks without all the Tyra stuff on top

Well, see, I've never seen her without the Tyra stuff. And she loves to say, you know, this business is about smoke and mirrors

It's about a lot of hair, a lot of makeup, lashes. I heard you talking about your bands. You took your lashes off, went down to the bands

That's a cute story. I got to use that one. Yes. Yeah. Powder and paint to make us what we ate

Powder and paint. That's right. And hair color for me. Well, see, I was so glad the day I threw that in the trash

I became drug free. It was wonderful. I threw the hair coloring that I bought from the grocery store, you know, every four weeks

Well, what color were you? Well, every color. Every color, Jay, because I would forget the number

So when I went to the grocery store, I just picked the prettiest girl

You know what I'm saying? I want to look like that. I want to look just like her. You want to know my secret

So some days it was orange, some it was black. You really got to know the name of your color and your toner

And I'm going to tell you for the first time ever what color I color my hair

Just for you. Okay. The toner, it's named Silver Lady. Silver? Yeah, I know that's a little embarrassing, but silver lady

So I can't forget it. No, I love it. Yeah. I don't know what that says, but it says something

The color is beautiful. Well, what does it take to be a supermodel

You know, it's about that. I always say it's that it factor. You have to, especially as a top model

You never know what it is. Yeah, you do. Well, actually, I think I do. You have to be able to command a presence when you walk in a room

It's not just about being that pretty girl who walks on the street. And typically, those are the girls that don't become supermodels

because real supermodels have alien-esque, like real alien features, eyes far apart

They look a little strange, and they have odd features, and that's what makes them kind of become magical in front of the camera

That different kind of beauty. That's why Tyra got booked by our first agent

All right, now I want you to tell everybody how you got started

Can you hold it? Yes. Because I don't want them to have to cut a word out

Okay. This is dissolved. We going to put it in there and we be back in a minute Next it a taste of strawberry margarita mousse

Oh, that is really good. I feel bad that everyone else is in here without one

I love the energy of the world. Is this a secret little dance

You're a good dancer, aren't you? Well, I do like to dance, but I loved your little thing like this

That's why I came out like, ooh, ooh, ooh. Well, see, I have to use mostly my arms now because that doesn't work like it used to

Really? With a husband that's nine years younger? Uh-huh. I can get it to working

Oh, okay. Okay, just checking. Y'all, we're here tonight on Paula's party

It's a red hot party, and Jay Manuel is here with us

I'm going to be making him a strawberry margarita mousse. Mm-hmm. And we have gotten our gel part all dissolved

And now we're going to make a meringue. Okay. But I want to hear the rest of your story

I want everybody to hear how you literally fell into this business

He really started off wanting to be an opera singer. And tell us how it happened

And basically what happened, my very first voice teacher was in Martin Scorsese's film, The Age of Innocence

and at a photo shoot because I'd always dabbled around with makeup and imagery and photography

I was an amateur photographer. Cream of tarte, y'all. Egg whites. Cream of tarte

Okay, we're just, I'm learning at the same time. Basically, I did this photo shoot, got her all gussied up

and the photographer said, do you realize you're actually talented at this? Me being very naive, I said, well, I'm going to school, you know, I don't have time for this

But I called them back two months later. This is really being ignorant and said, hi, I don't know if you remember me

But I'm free on these days, and if you want to use me, okay, I'm available

And literally my second job, which was two weeks later, I was doing the Metropolitan Opera's cover album for Luciano Pavarotti

styling the wig, makeup, in character. And I didn't even know anything about lace front wigs

And I'm thinking, if I ruin this, I'm dead. I was nervous. But that's how I fell into it, and it moved very quickly

That's just wild how that happened. Sometimes the best things happen by accident

I agree. All right, so if you would take that, Jay, and I'm going to turn this up really high for a second

And it's starting to foam, so if you would slowly add the sugar into it

I want you to teach me how to come up with that supermodel pose

And you know, it's funny, because while I was adding the sugar, I was just thinking, this looks like a top model challenge

You know, how you can take a great photo, add sugar, and whip egg whites at the same time

We're doing it First of all, everybody has a little flaw Number one, so when you're in front of the camera

You've got to learn, know what your flaws are Number one know what they are Oops look I spilling the sugar No you doing perfect So the other thing is when you in front of the camera the camera people forget that the camera lens has distortion

So, it can make things that we don't want to look wider, be wider. So, you can also cheat against that distortion

How? How would I cheat? For instance, if you're the camera and I'm the subject, if you lean forward, what ends

up happening is we enlarge our facial features, giving it that alien quality that supermodels

have, and we shrink everything else. That's a real... You can do that, y'all

Look at me, y'all. When you're out there, y'all, pick that up

Especially when you guys are doing, you know, just having snapshots, weddings, whatever

I was going to say... Just lean forward just a little bit. I guess you'll look better. All right

Now, my son Jamie, one of his tricks, because he's like me, he has more than one chin

And when he goes to have his picture taken, he puts his tongue in the roof of his mouth

That's the best drink. Who taught you that? My son. Uh-huh. It does work

My son. So remember that, girls, when you're having your picture made, everybody practice

Tongue of the roof of the mouth. And also, smile. How many people don't smile

They feel that they don't like their smile. But really, warmth and charisma goes a long way in photographs for sure

Yeah. Well, come on over here because I want to hear more. Uh-huh. A beautiful meringue, but we've got to have this cooled because it would break down everything

So we've got some over here that's cooled. We've got a meringue ready

Now, all we're going to do is just fold all these ingredients in together

We've got fresh strawberries. We've got whipped cream. We've got our meringue

Okay. And we've got our chilled gelatin. Okay. So just fold it in, honey

Do you know how to fold? I think so. Okay. But wait, but I've got to ask you, though, what order do you do it in

It doesn't matter. Oh, it doesn't? Just everything goes in this bowl. And fold is when you pour and then you just do this

You don't stir it up. Right. You don't stir it. Just fold it back and forth. You take your spatula and you go down and over

Okay. And just turn that spatula in your hand. Okay. So that you don't beat it or break down everything that you've worked to get the air in

You know this is stressful for me, really. Oh, no, honey. And I do a lot of stressful things, but this is stressful

I'm right here with you. Can I touch this? Yes, you can touch it

Okay, this is really fun. Yeah, it's really thick because, see, we used a gelatin

Oh, okay. And as you know, when gelatin's chill, they start to get..

They become gelatinous. Yes. Okay. All right, so just fold that in

And then all of this. Uh-huh, fold that in. And while you're doing that, I'm going to take our glasses

And I have a little water here. and I'm just going to run that rim of that glass in that water

and then I going to just dip it in red sugar Look how pretty that looks Jen That looks really good My side doesn look so great here so far Oh yeah Just mix mix mix baby Okay Just mix mix mix mix You know the funny

thing is I love cooking. Do you? Do you cook often? I don't because I work a lot, but I'll tell you

when I do have time off, barbecuing. What's your favorite thing to fix

I actually like to do a smoked rotisserie chicken because I don't

I think most people do a good job of it. Have you ever gone to someone's house and they serve you chicken or turkey and it's so dry, you're like, yeah, it's real good

Uh-huh, uh-huh. Yeah, I don't like that. Especially the white meat. It'll choke you to death

My mother taught me how to put the broth in there and smoke it and everything

Okay, this is looking all right. Now, after you get it all folded in, we would put this in the fridge and let it sit for, you know, about an hour

But in the meantime, I had some ready for you. And we're just going to get us a little mint

Mine looks a little lumpier than that. I don't know. You know what? That's all right. We don't have to worry about it, honey

All right. And one last strawberry. I like things photo perfect. Don't you know that? Well, I know, and I'm the same way

I like perfection. But sometimes you just have to move on, you know

We should really use that in everything in life. Just move on. All right, now take your spoon

Okay. Oh, wow. And this is yours, and this is mine. Listen, would you tell Tyra that I said hello

I certainly will. And ask her if she'll ever come on to one of my shows

She's such a beautiful young woman. Y'all need to get on over down here to see Miss Paula

Mmm. Oh, that is really good. You like it? I feel bad that everyone else is in here without one

I know, I know. Every time I have to put something in my mouth, I think of my mama saying

now, if you don't have enough to share, you do not eat it. Oh, okay. Jay, listen, you're a dear to come on

In fact, I've had a ball with all of y'all today. You're invited back any time to one of my parties

And it's always, always, always, what do I send them? I send them something

That I don't know. We're going to send them loving best dishes

Loving best dishes. That's what I meant to say. Yes. From our kitchen to yours

We'll see y'all at the next party. You know what's so funny

You know what is so funny? The very first time I saw the show, it was with my mom watching

My mom loves the show. She's over. I'm so funny. She's going to love this

I definitely will. She looks like a lot of us from Canada

But she did all right. But I think she had this. Oh, thank you so much

Oh, thank you so much
