Hey y'all, get excited because tonight on Paula's Party, we're gonna be cooking up all of our favorite Christmas recipes
0:08
I've got Amy Grant here as a guest in the kitchen with me. We're baking up ham
0:12
And I've got my good buddy Robert Irvine from Dinner Impossible. Eight minutes to produce a Christmas brunch
0:21
And Jamie's gonna be popping in and making us a Christmas eggnog custard pie
0:27
Merry Christmas, son. And I'm going to be living out a Christmas fantasy, kicking high with a Radio City Rockette
0:36
So y'all go find me that mistletoe, because Paula's feeling frisky. Let's party
0:44
Merry Christmas! Hello! Hello
1:11
Hey! Oh, my goodness, y'all are so pretty! Hello! Thank y'all so much
1:21
Thank you, thank you. Y'all make an old girl feel good. I'm so excited y'all are here today
1:32
Because you know why? Tonight is our Christmas party. We're going to be celebrating Christmas
1:42
And I'm so glad you're here to be a part of it. So I want to get immediately to our first guest
1:51
She is a singer. She's a songwriter. She has sold over 30 million albums
2:01
And she is married to a hunk, a hunk, a burning love
2:07
So y'all put your hands together and make her feel at home
2:13
I'm so excited. Amy Grant! Hi. Hi. How are you
2:23
Hello. It's great to be here. It's great to have you here
2:28
Thank you. I have to tell you, my husband says, Amy, I should be on the Paula Deen Show
2:36
Because he watches and he loves food like nobody. Do y'all know who her husband is
2:45
Who is her husband? Vince Gill. Oh, blue eyes. He is a food lover
2:50
Is he really? And loves you, so. Well, you tell him that I love him back
2:56
Okay. And next time, maybe you can bring him with you. Oh, yeah, he'll be here
2:59
Well, I want to share with you a recipe that's really over the top for hams
3:05
Great. I have got a butt portion here, a butt end. Now, I'm going to take this and I'm going to score it
3:15
Okay. I'm just going to score through that fat. Great. Just like that, because we're going to put a glaze on this, Amy
3:23
And, you know, when it bakes, you'll see these little diamond marks on the ham
3:31
Now, you're a Southern girl. I am. I'm a Southern girl. Tell me some Christmas stories
3:37
Oh, goodness. Y'all cooks? Yes. Holidays are all about the food. And I have three of my sisters here
3:43
My three sisters. Where? Right here. Raise your hands. They're so... NeNe, Tabby, and Carol
3:49
They're beautiful, too. Did y'all sing? Y'all don't sing in the shower
3:59
But we, holiday meals or any meals at our house and our family, we all live in Tennessee, in Nashville, and we don't cater
4:08
We always do the meal. We divide and conquer. We cook the food
4:12
Oh, I love it. We cover for each other because accidents always happen in the kitchen. Like what
4:17
Well, this was a year when Kathy's daughter was getting married. Now, which one's Kathy? Kathy
4:21
Okay. And so we had 70 people at that Thanksgiving, 75. It was crazy
4:27
Are you kidding? It was nuts. At your house? Yes, at our house. And so I had made cheese grits, and I hadn't really checked it
4:34
And, you know, sometimes they have those little dark flecks in them. That's right. Sometimes those dark flecks are bugs
4:41
Vic said, Amy, this is filled with bugs. And I said, it's filled with, as an exaggeration, it has some bugs
4:47
And he said, you can't serve this. And I said, we're going to put some cracked black pepper in there
4:50
There you go, girl. Protein. It was protein. A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do
5:03
Yes, and don't you see somebody return from them? Well, you can't do that in the restaurant business. No
5:06
But in the privacy of your home for your loving family. You know these bugs do not need to hurt them
5:14
I know. I know. Now, we have a glaze, a very, very simple glaze of Dijon mustard
5:21
Okay. You want to mix it together? I'd love to. And orange marmalade
5:25
Okay. And about a teaspoon of bugs. I mean, black pepper. All right
5:30
Now, how many children do y'all have? We have... Is yours mine and ours
5:35
It's yours mine and ours. I birthed four of them. And... Oh, wow
5:39
And I have a fabulous stepdaughter, Jenny. All right. Now, what I want you to do, Amy, is just glaze our ham
5:46
And we're going to put this in the oven at 350, y'all, and we're going to bake it for just about 20 minutes
5:52
Are you a heavy glazer? Not very long. I am. I'm heavy at everything I do
5:55
I love that about you. I'm a condiment girl. Yes, yes, yes
5:59
I love condiments. Okay, this was mustard and pepper and? It was Dijon mustard, orange marmalade, and cracked black pepper
6:07
To glaze the front or just the skin? Yes, glaze it all. Ooh, okay. And our ham is fully cooked
6:12
because it's a smoked ham. Right. So you don't have to cook it for hours and hours and hours
6:18
which is what I love about serving ham. Yes. So in the oven that goes 20 minutes
6:25
and when we come back, I'm going to show Amy how I snuggle this ham down in some pastry
6:34
Ooh, yum. I'm going to be arrested one day, y'all. See you back in a minute
6:39
Merry Christmas. Up next, y'all, Amy Grant grants me two holiday wishes, a Christmas ham and a Christmas song
6:52
And later, it's a Christmas impossible brunch with cranberry stuffed French toast
7:04
Welcome back. This is like one of the best Christmas parties I've ever thrown
7:13
I'm here, y'all, with Amy Grant, and I'm going to share with Amy this recipe for ham today
7:19
Now we took a butt portion smoked ham we scored it we baked it in the oven for 20 minutes Now here the fun good part to this ham We going to come over here Amy and we going to use an ingredient
7:35
that Southern girls cannot do without, and that's canned crescent rolls. Oh, yeah
7:43
Honey, we can take you from breakfast to lunch to dinner to dessert
7:49
with a can of crescent rolls. Can't we? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah
7:53
All right. So what we're going to do is I'm just going to take these cans, and it's two cans
8:03
Okay. I've pressed them together. And while I'm doing this, I would love for you to do this
8:10
Okay. I've got an extra can of crescent rolls, Amy, and I've got some pretty little cutouts
8:15
All right. And I've got just some bench flour here for you to dip them in
8:19
Great. So why don't you make us some, like, pretty holly leaves to put on top
8:24
All right. All right, so while you're doing this. See, my kids would love this part
8:29
Isn't that great? Yes. I love things that you can get the kids involved in
8:34
In fact, Amy, you know what? I'm fixing to have the most exciting thing happen
8:38
I just started a few weeks ago my first children's cookbook. Oh, great
8:43
Yeah, because I'm a granny now. I'm a granny now. All right
8:48
I'm going to have to tell on you. Okay. A little bird flew through here
8:55
Now, y'all, I'm just going to take this crescent and gently tuck it around under my ham
9:03
just barely under the edges. A little bird told me that you almost burned your house down
9:09
Oh, Ella. I'm always trying to create a great mood, and the easiest mood to set are candles and music
9:17
I mean, I do that sometimes for breakfast before school. I do that when I'm cleaning the house
9:21
Wonderful. Always candles and music. But we had a gorgeous greenery and five-candle centerpiece that I put on our coffee table
9:30
And I showered. I was blowing my hair dry. And my son came in, way to burn the house down
9:34
And the entire coffee table was aflame with, yeah, those candles burned out of the greenery
9:42
And the fire trucks were there. No! Yeah. Believe it or not, it did not spark the Christmas tree
9:49
But, you know, when they spray with those fire extinguishers, everything was covered in white dust
9:54
It covers everything. Well, so we just pretended we had a flock tree. But that table, if you ever come to my house, our coffee table in the den has a big black scorch in it, which I love
10:07
It's the ultimate distress. It gave it character, didn't it? Yes. You and your family, do you open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day
10:14
We do, with my large family, my mom, all the nieces and nephews, we do a dirty Santa, because there's so many of us
10:23
A dirty Santa. And so, you know, you pick a number, one through however many of you are there
10:27
Number one goes first. They open a present. Oh, what? Oh, let me do the egg wash
10:31
And then you can steal it. Oh, gosh, I love that. We had a Paula Deen present last year
10:35
No, you didn't. What was it? It was a stinky gift. No, that was a good gift
10:39
It was a great gift. And they have to be good gifts, but everybody shows up with one great gift
10:44
I love that. And then they're stolen and stolen, you know. Now, Amy, I'm brushing this with just an egg wash
10:49
Okay, all right. Because that's going to give our pastry a real shine to it
10:53
Yes, yeah. All right, now you go, honey. Okay, all right. Express yourself. I am
10:58
Woo, I feel better already. Oh, your leaves are gorgeous. Okay, thank you
11:02
Look at that. It doesn't have to just be leaves. I guess it could really be anything, right
11:06
Yeah, anything that you've got, you know, a cookie cutter, you could cover it with Santa Claus's
11:12
Okay. Or musical notes. Initials or your fabulous comments. I love you
11:18
Yes. You have done an excellent job. I would love to come to your house one Christmas with all your sisters
11:26
Invited. Consider yourself. I'll be in on the 23rd. Okay. We'll set the burn table
11:34
Yes. All right, now look how beautiful this is, y'all. That's great
11:38
Whoever. It's like a great big ham and biscuit, isn't it? Yes. So in the oven that goes 350, y'all, and we're going to bake it for just about 20 minutes
11:51
And I've got one that's ready. Wow. Look at this beautiful ham
11:58
Is that not a different way to serve ham? So let's cut into this
12:05
I can't wait for you to taste it. All right. Oh, that's a lucky first bite right there
12:09
Yes. You've got all that crust. Look at this, Amy. Yes! Okay
12:18
Am I waiting on you? No, honey. You go ahead and eat it. Are we tasting it? Yes, and I'm going to come right behind you
12:25
Oh, the bread's the best part. Oh, yeah. Mmm, that glaze is so good
12:34
Yummy, isn't it? That is great. Well, Amy, another bird flew over and told me
12:41
Did you have a song for us? I do have a little Christmas ditty
12:47
May I? Is that wonderful? You go over there and you get comfortable
12:57
Oh, that ham is so fabulous. Now, while Amy's getting comfortable, y'all
13:03
I just want to prove what kind of sweet girl she is
13:09
She has a CD and her book in a gift bag, and she brought one for every one of you
13:20
Isn't she sweet? Now, what song do you have for us? Well, this is just a traditional kid's song, and many times when I'm cooking, Vince will come into the kitchen with a guitar and sing, and he's always making up words
13:39
Up on the housetop, reindeer paws. Out jumps good old Santa Claus. Down through the chimney with lots of toys. All for the little one's Christmas joys. Oh ho ho, who wouldn't go? Oh ho ho, who wouldn't go? Up on the housetop, click, click, click. Down through the chimney with good Saint Nick
13:59
Now in our house we make up words to song. Here comes a stocking for Paula Deen
14:06
Filled with grits and bacon grease Use lots of butter when you bake
14:16
Stay off the scales for goodness sake Oh, oh, oh, who would go
14:22
Oh, oh, oh, who would go? Up on the house top, click, click, click
14:27
Down through the chimney with good saint me. Amy Grant, everybody. Thank
14:35
you, darling. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Next, Food Network's Robert Irvine Christmas brunch
14:43
in eight minutes flat. Hurry, Robert. And later, the most famous dancers in the world, trying to get me
14:49
in line. Welcome back So I wanna get immediately to our next guest I love this young man
15:06
He's got a hit show called Dinner Impossible on Food Network and a new book called Mission Cook
15:14
Give a warm, warm welcome to my dear friend Robert Irvine. Robert
15:25
How you doing, baby? I'm doing great. Don't have some mistletoe out here
15:37
Mistletoe? Where's the mistletoe? You don't need mistletoe. You don't need mistletoe with me
15:47
Y'all, I just adore this man. Come on with me, honey. Come on
15:55
Jeez. So, you know, your show Dinner Impossible has been a huge hit
16:05
Yeah, I don't know why. But I have a situation here. We have a tape recorder
16:12
And I think that we have a mission. So. This is what happens on the show
16:19
You know, you all think that I know what I'm doing. I actually have no clue
16:23
So I show up at an airport, they give me a ticket and say you're going to Kathmandu
16:27
When you get there, somebody says, oh, your mission is today, and that's what that is, I take it
16:32
It's Christmas impossible, honey, here at Paula's party. So we're going to listen quietly, we're going to mash the button, y'all
16:42
and we're going to see what Robert's mission is, should he accept it
16:47
Robert, Paula Your mission today Should you choose to accept it Is to make a Christmas brunch
16:55
For your entire family You have nothing prepared And they're arriving in 8 minutes
17:01
The audience you need They're on a table right behind you This table self-destruct in about 50 years
17:08
8 minutes To produce a Christmas brunch For my whole family Our whole family
17:14
In 8 minutes Using the ingredients that are here Do you accept the challenge
17:27
Yes. Yes. Robin says he can do it. All right. We've got a pretty girl sitting here
17:36
Her name is Crystal. So Crystal's going to set our clock. Look, honey, I'm here for you, baby
17:44
Hang on. Hang on. Right, I got the love. I will goo
17:50
I will goo. I will goo. Goo goo. Goo goo, whatever I can to help you
17:57
Okay, Crystal, you start our clock, baby. Three, two, one. Go, Robin, go, go, go, go
18:05
All right, slice them up, oil a pan, and we'll make like little sweet rolls from them
18:10
Okay. What are you doing, Robert? Right now I'm trying to have a heart attack
18:20
Christmas, yes, we like that. We'll make some sweet rolls with that. We'll take some sugar and some cinnamon
18:26
All right, now you've got me just some crescent rolls here that I've sliced for you, okay
18:33
Put sugar on them. Wally. Oh, excuse me, baby. Hey, listen, eight minutes
18:39
I've got to catch a cold. You can do it, you can do it. You've never had any formal training, have you
18:44
No, really. You're like me. Yeah. Was your mother a good cook
18:50
It's a sore subject. My mother is over there. Where's your mom
18:57
Mom! Mom! It's a sore subject. She was really good. She was a horrible cook, except for Sunday roast
19:04
Oh, very good. She could cook a mean Sunday roast, couldn't she? Yes, she could
19:09
All right, they've got to go in the oven. Okay. That's all I did
19:13
Cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg. No butter? No. All right. Always butter my cinnamon rolls
19:22
Well, you've got five minutes and ten seconds left on this job
19:26
What is that? All right, cranberry. Here, hold that. Cranberries. Christmas. Christmas
19:31
Cranberries. Cranberries. Do you want me to do these up? Put a little sugar
19:35
A little sugar. A little sugar. A little sugar. Sugar, cream cheese, and cranberries
19:40
Are you done yet? A little sugar. How much is a little sugar
19:51
Paula and Robert are just halfway done. They have four minutes left to finish their Christmas impossible brunch after the break
20:00
So far tonight on Paula's Party, it's been a holiday to remember
20:04
Mmm, that glaze is so good. First, Grammy Award winner Amy Grant baked a Christmas ham and sang for her supper
20:12
Here comes a stocking for Paula Deen filled with grits and bacon grease
20:19
And I'm helping Food Network star Robert Irvine with a Christmas Impossible Challenge
20:25
Holiday brunch with cranberry stuffed French toast in just eight minutes. How much is our love
20:31
We're halfway done. Let's see what happens. We now continue with our Christmas Impossible Brunch Challenge with just four minutes to go
20:40
will they make it? Alright, so we've got the French toast. And what do you do
20:46
Now! Now! Well, what's the difference between me being... Open your pocket
20:52
We've only got eight minutes. Put it in the pocket and sink it in like that. This one ain't got no pocket
20:56
That's a crappy pocket. Here. Here. I like that one already
21:07
You like that one already? Merry Christmas. Great. Tom and I just put the perfect amount of sugar
21:13
Cream cheese. All right, are we going to fry these? Oh, God. I'm going to fry them
21:21
Where's George when I need them? Where's the butter? Butter's over there. Where? There
21:29
I'm going to do these the way I like them. Here. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who are you cooking for, too
21:33
Is this what you was going to do? All right, Robin
21:45
I've got to show some food at the end of this. Hurry up. You've got three minutes and 20 seconds
21:51
You're killing me. You're killing me. What on earth is that? Well, I don't know
21:56
I just read your mind. I thought this is what you were going to do. You read my mind
22:02
You don't want to read my mind right now. Would you be cursing me? Salmon
22:07
We love smoked salmon, don't we? Yes, we do. Two minutes and 41 seconds
22:14
Hurry, Robert. Hurry up. Hurry, hurry. How's me rolls doing? Me rolls
22:19
Oh. Me rolls are great. You didn let our pan get hot and I needed some spray What do you mean And who going to eat this raw sausage Do we have a torch A torch We need a torch to try and cook these sausages
22:36
The sausage will cook, don't you worry about them. Oh, Jesus. We're getting it now
22:55
We like cranberries? Yes, we like cranberries. I love cranberries. All right, we got some salmon
23:02
What about some... 47, 46. You're killing me. Here we go, Robert
23:18
We're laughing and a-scratching now, ain't we? Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one
23:34
All right
23:56
Girls, y'all see why I love him. Show him that bicep when you do that
24:02
This one? Show the girls. Yeah, pull up that shirt. So what have you got, Robert
24:08
All right, let's have a look at the oven. Oh, you didn't even turn it on
24:15
You didn't tell me to turn it on. She ain't too smart, but she's awfully pretty
24:30
All right, so we got the French toast. Oh, this would be nice, actually
24:35
Oh, honey, it was good raw. This is wonderful. I am going to use this recipe
24:42
I stole it off you anyway. Oh, you did? I thought it looked familiar
24:48
Oops, I didn't slap my bracelet off. Oh, look at that. That would be nice
24:53
I'm going to eat this, not you. What are you doing? I'm trying to get my bracelet back on there
24:59
This is halibread French toast that's been dipped in egg and milk
25:06
And it's stuffed with cream cheese, sugar, fresh cranberries. But anyway, I want you to taste it
25:16
OK. Put it in your mouth. It's like Wow
25:42
Out of this world It's actually good It is out of this world
25:46
Don't go anywhere We are having a Christmas party at my house tonight
25:50
See you back in a minute Robert Irvine Dinner Impossible With salmon
25:58
With salmon Next, a new twist on Christmas. An eggnog custard pie
26:05
And later, there are weight requirements. No, no weight requirement. Perfect. Chicken up fruit roll-ups with a rockette
26:21
Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas, everybody. Thank y'all. You know, I can't have a Christmas show without a little family
26:31
Jamie Dean, come out, honey. Hey, y'all. Hey, Mama. Hey, Sam. Happy holidays
26:43
Happy holidays. Happy holidays. Thanks for having me, Mom. Oh, gosh. Did you see our Christmas tree
26:50
I did. It's beautiful. It is beautiful, y'all, in case you hadn't noticed
26:55
These are all Christopher Radko ornaments. Fancy. Aren't they fancy? They're beautiful ornaments
27:02
And actually, it was North Pole City that came in and decorated for us
27:09
Isn't that beautiful? It's beautiful. Thank y'all. Is this in your cookbook
27:18
No, ma'am. What we're doing today is an eggnog custard pie. Well, show me. Show me
27:22
We came up with this recipe because my mom, all of our lives, has made eggnog at the holidays
27:28
Which is my mother's recipe, y'all. With some brown water in it, it makes it so good
27:32
It's the adult eggnog. It's really good. Everybody used to show up at our house for Christmas on Christmas Eve just to have some eggnog
27:42
Well, that's what we're doing today. But this is a new twist. We're going to do it in a custard pie, which is really good and super simple
27:47
Okay. We got a pie crust. Would you like for me to do anything? If you would, flour that and roll that out. Okay
27:52
We're going to put it into a nine-inch, this is a deep dish pie shell. This is super simple
27:57
Just buy one at the store, you know, that's frozen. There's no sense. You can do your own, but this makes it really cool
28:02
Actually, Jamie, I love the pie crust that you get in the dairy section
28:08
You know, it comes folded up, and it really gives your pies a homemade look, and it's wonderful
28:14
It's flaky. It's tender. This is actually one that comes rolled and frozen
28:19
And, you know, it's not a giveaway because it's not in that tin. Yep
28:22
Although I ain't above using a 10 either. Me neither. So mom, while you're doing that, I got four eggs here that I'm going to beat up
28:30
And what I'm going to beat these with, I'm going to add a little bit of sugar. Okay
28:34
Just about a cup. I'm going to blend these together. And I've got some evaporated milk
28:45
Not to be confused with sweetened and condensed. I love sweetened and condensed, but we're using evaporated for this
28:52
I'm going to blend this up. I'm going to add a little bit of water. Okay
29:02
And just a pinch of salt. A little bit of salt
29:11
And this is where the nod comes in. What is that? It looks just like water
29:16
You want a sip? I want a sniff. Fire water. This is a little bit of white rum
29:24
No, it's white rum. I don't know a lot about alcohol. I don't
29:31
I don't. Excluding margaritas. Well, I do like the taste of a margarita
29:37
Never seen a woman drink a margarita faster than Mama. I made one for her and one for my wife
29:40
And Brooke said, are you done already? Brooke was so funny. She said, Paula
29:47
I said, I know. I love the taste of that. And you can just take your fingers, you know, and just pinch your... Pinch. Pinch
29:55
Just pinch your edge up. Wait. I'm going to give it a little... Prick
30:01
You know, don't ask me why, I just always poke holes in the bottom of my crust
30:06
Okay, we're gonna add this. Can't have the holidays without cinnamon and nutmeg
30:13
So a little cinnamon and nutmeg on top of here. Uh-huh. And then we're gonna put this, this is kind of a delicate, and we don't wanna cook it
30:21
too quick, so we're gonna do it in a water bath. Water bath, oh okay, great. Come on, if you'll add that water there
30:25
Okay, you wanna sit the... Yep. And it's hot water. The water bath, y'all, is just going to make the pie cook slowly and prevent it from cracking
30:38
And I'll be very, very careful because I certainly don't want to slosh into our pie
30:45
You're going to go about halfway up the pie pan just so it can kind of control the temperature
30:51
Yeah, and this will give it a nice, even, slow cook. Now, this goes in our oven
30:56
and it's about 350 for just shy of an hour, maybe 55 minutes or so
31:01
But the best way to tell with something like this is if you get you a toothpick and stick it in the center
31:09
and if the toothpick comes out clean, you know it's done. Or a knife, a knife works good
31:14
The magic of television though. Oh, look! Ding. Not only is it ready, but it's already chilled
31:24
So this is what it's going to look like. Beautiful! Beautiful! I can't wait
31:34
So let's have a taste. You want to? Aren't our plates beautiful and Christmasy looking
31:40
Here, son, you want a knife? If y'all didn't know, Mamas always know best
31:49
He lets me think that. No, it took me about 30 years to figure it out
31:55
Sometimes it does take us a while for our parents to get smart
32:00
This looks so good. Mama always said the first piece is the cooks, because this is going to be ugly
32:08
Uh-huh. It's hard to get that first one to come out looking like a picture
32:14
That's not so bad. No, it's not bad at all. And we've got a little bit of..
32:19
Look at that, the beautiful red and the white. A little bit of cream. A little bit of cream
32:24
And this has got some cinnamon in it. That's for the first bite
32:29
I like the way my son thinks. I just adore our Christmas plate
32:42
They're beautiful. Good save
32:54
Cheers Look how beautiful that is Merry Christmas son Mmm I taste the rum
33:11
I love eggnog. Just a little bit, though. Just enough to give it some flavor. I got an early Christmas present for you. Is it like a necklace
33:18
Not quite. Are y'all ready? Is who ready? It's the Radio City Rockette Show
33:25
Oh my gracious! Not even close, Marla
33:47
Y'all stick around, we'll be right back. Next, a Radio City Rockette shows me her sweet fruit roll-ups
34:02
Welcome back, y'all. A little girl's fantasy came true today, y'all. You know what does every little girl dream of
34:15
We dream of being a Rockette or Miss America. And I thought I was a Rockette
34:22
Believe it or not. Calling his origin. Thank you. A long time ago, a long time ago, I had a little bitty waist and kind of long legs
34:36
Beautiful legs. Thank you. We all have our day, I guess. You are ready to go
34:42
Where are we going? To celebrate the 75th year of the Christmas Spectacular
34:48
Are you kidding? 75 years. 75 years? Y'all look so good to be 75 years old
34:58
Well, listen, I hear that one of you brought a recipe to share with me
35:02
That's me. I brought some date roll-up cookies to share. Did you? Wonderful, Ciara
35:08
Well, listen, you girls get comfortable, and Ciara, take me to the kitchen
35:12
All right, I can't wait to cook with you. You mean you can cook? I can cook, a little bit, not as well as you
35:18
You look like this and you can cook. Well, I am so excited to make this
35:25
This is a recipe that my mom loves. Her grandmother made them and my grandmother made them
35:30
So they're just a simple cookie. In here is some butter and some cream cheese, which I thought would be perfect
35:37
My two favorite ingredients, y'all. What a Christmas. So all you do is you mix
35:42
With a rock head, y'all. You mix the butter and cream cheese in here. It's already been creamed together
35:47
Then you take sifted flour. So you just add that flour right in here
35:52
Is that all-purpose flour? Yes just all flour And you mix that in here And do you need a mixer or anything You know by the end I sometimes end up using my hands I love it
36:04
You can use a mixer or even just a spoon to get it going. And then there's also a little bit of salt, but the dough itself is not sweet
36:12
So once you get all this nice and together, it doesn't take that long
36:17
then you just end up chilling it. And I usually stick it in the freezer because it's faster
36:22
Uh-huh. All right, show us how you dig in with your hands, Sierra
36:26
All right, that's always a faster way to go. Yes. Just get the cream cheese
36:30
The heat from your hands help break down that cream cheese. But it's important that your cream cheese be at room temperature
36:38
Definitely. So it's workable. All right, so it's almost getting there. Once you get it into just about like a nice little ball, then you stick it in
36:47
So you have to let it chill, don't you? Otherwise, it's going to stick to your fingers
36:53
And any tips you have for me, I would love. I'm sure my mom would be happy to make her recipe even better
37:00
I've got lots of tips, honey. And one that has worked probably the best for everybody is don't bet on the fat jockey
37:14
Slows the horse down. Because he's probably going to come in last place
37:19
All right, I think that's been a nice fall. How long have you been a Rockette
37:24
This will be my third season as a Rockette. Really? Yep. And how many shows do y'all do a week
37:29
We do, well, we can do as many as six a day. Are you kidding me? No
37:35
Six a day? That's how we keep in shape. We get to eat all these great cookies during the holiday season because we are performing all day long
37:43
Well, I have had the pleasure of seeing your Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall
37:47
It's a fabulous, fabulous show. Thank you. All right. Okay. So now we've chilled our dough
37:54
We've chilled it, and then you just roll it out, and you want it to be not too thin because it's, you know, you want it to be nice
38:01
That's probably a quarter of an inch, right? Just about, yep. And instead of sprinkling this with flour like you normally do to roll out your dough, I use confectioner's sugar
38:10
That way it adds a little sweetener to the dough. Yes. Perfect. Yes, but it acts as like a non-sticking ingredient, like flour
38:18
Exactly, and you can even put a little on your fingers when you're rolling it up so your fingers don't stick to the dough
38:23
And this is an easy, easy dough to make. So easy. All right, now you've got some dates up here and some cranberries
38:30
You can pretty much put anything. Cranberries, you can put chocolate. All right, well, show us how you do that
38:33
Do you need some sugar on your hand? Perfect. More sugar, the better
38:41
Yes. So you just take it and you put it on the end and roll it up. And this is just a regular date
38:47
A pitted date. A pitted date. Yep. And do you know what I would do, Sierra
38:53
Please tell me I would take a knife All right this is a tip you can take back to Mama Okay I would split this with a knife and I would put a pecan half in that
39:03
That sounds delicious. And roll it up because I love nuts. And that would add more texture to it
39:08
It would add more texture. I'll definitely be telling her about that tip. So there's your tip for Mama. Thank you
39:12
Well, listen, I've got a couple of questions I want to ask. What are the requirements
39:17
Because y'all all look like you were cut from the same pattern
39:22
Well, we're definitely all very different. You do have to be between 5'6 and 5'10 and a half
39:27
5'6 and 5'10. Okay, I've almost got that. You do, actually. You got the height
39:32
So what we do, actually, to make the illusion that we're all the same height in the line is we line the tallest girls in the center with the shortest on the end
39:39
So the illusion is that we're all the same exact height, but we're really very different. All right
39:43
Now, is there a weight requirement? No, no weight requirement. Perfect. Perfect
39:51
Perfect. Is there an age requirement? We do have to be 18 to audition, so that's our youngest Rockette, but that's the only age requirement
40:04
And you've got to be able to kick those legs. How high do I have to be able to kick
40:07
We kick eye high. So you want to see. Eye high. Eye high
40:11
So we kick our legs so that you can see your toes inside with your eyes
40:16
You know, I think I used to could do that. I'm sure you could
40:20
I'm sure with that picture that you saw. Now I can kick eye height of my Shih Tzu
40:29
She didn't say whose eye, did she? So then you just slide them in the oven
40:35
They only need to bake for 15 minutes, sometimes 20, just until they're nice and golden brown
40:41
15 or 20 minutes. I like that cookie already. This is how they come out
40:46
Oh, gosh. They're beautiful. And then you just add a little more of the confectioner's sugar on top
40:54
Okie doke. Gosh, they look wonderful, Ciara. And they're real simple. I'll make these for the girls back at Radio City
41:01
It's a quick little snack in between all of our shows for the Christmas spectacular
41:05
And you don't eat all this stuff, really? Definitely. We have sometimes six shows a day
41:09
so we have the luck of getting to eat whatever we want during the holiday season
41:13
So let's have a bite. Ooh, I've got a cranberry sticking to me. I think I've got cranberry also
41:18
To Ciara and her mother and grandmother. Thank you. Mmm. Mmm. It's delicious
41:30
I've had so much fun with y'all today. I hope that you've had a good time here at our Christmas party
41:35
I want to thank the Rockettes and Robert and Amy and Jamie and most of all, all of y'all for coming today
41:43
Merry Christmas and God bless. Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo! Woo
41:48
Thank you
