Hey, y'all
0:02
Today on Paula's Party, we're getting romantical. You can't believe what happens when we start talking about love
0:14
Getting turned on. You getting turned on? It's a romantic breakfast in bed for three
0:21
He's got wide shoulders, doesn't he, Kim? I have. And I'm serving up a baked French toast casserole
0:28
All right, that's pretty good. A high-speed challenge that lets me have my wedding cake and eat it too
0:36
I would marry you all over again. And a hot dish that's sure to fan the flames of love
0:45
Are you feeling romantical? Just a little. Today on Paula's party, I'm romancing the stove
0:53
Are y'all ready to fall in love today? Yeah! Well, let's party
1:00
Thank you
1:29
Y'all are beautiful. Just beautiful. And we got a lot of couples here today, don't we
1:39
Well, guess what today's show is all about? It's all about love
1:46
Do y'all want to know how I fell in love with Michael Groover
1:51
Yes. Well, when I first met Michael Groover, I thought, hmm, this just might be my soul mate
2:01
Because one look at him, and I knew that he liked to eat
2:08
And do you know that some foods are more sensual than others
2:16
Oysters. Oh, my goodness. I love to see the men come in here and order those char-grilled oysters
2:27
And I'll take them over a tray and I'll say, Baby, I hope at least 11 of them work
2:38
Well, that's what today's show is all about, and I'm thrilled you're here with me
2:42
So why don't we get to loving? Do y'all want to see where Michael took me on our first date
2:57
Yes. I've got a picture of it. But I have to say it was a wonderful meal
3:16
I think the second place he took me was to a bar to get hot wings. So we're really on a roll here, you know
3:27
But I knew that he shared the love of food with me
3:32
So I knew that that was a common bond. Would y'all like to meet Michael
3:36
Yeah! Michael, come on up. Thank you. Well, this is my rubber man
3:54
You were turning me on talking about that food. Well, when Michael wants me to cook his absolutely favorite meal
4:06
I have to say, it's got to be oxtails. Have y'all ever had oxtails
4:12
Yes, ma'am. So you've had oxtails. My first time was with my husband
4:16
I didn't know what an oxtail was. Well, Michael, tell them what oxtail is
4:23
I call it swinging sirloin. They're delicious. And like I said, to me, they have more flavor than a regular pot roast
4:37
Now, this is what oxtails look like. You can kind of see that this was close to the hiney
4:44
and this is getting on down the table now these are real fatty
4:53
so you're going to want to make sure that you trim off as much
4:59
of that fat as you can I know y'all probably can't believe that
5:04
Paula Dean is telling y'all to get rid of the fat but if you're not careful
5:09
you'll wind up with too much grease in your pot So I've got that trimmed
5:15
If you'll go over there to your counter. Okay. And if you'll cook the rice
5:21
I'll do it. Because we can't have oxtails at our house without rice
5:26
All right, now I'm going to take these oxtails, and I'm going to sprinkle them with house seasoning
5:33
It's one cup of salt, a fourth of a cup of black pepper
5:39
and a fourth of a cup of garlic powder. And you just keep that in a shaker by your stove
5:45
It works in every dish you'll ever do except maybe your cakes and pies
5:50
Otherwise, it's just perfect. Oh, this dish is so simple. All right, now I'm going to take a little soy sauce
6:02
and I'm just going to kind of drizzle that over those oxtails
6:09
It gives it just a nice little kick. I prefer that over like a Worcestershire sauce
6:17
I'm going to cover it with onions. And then I'm going to put a splash of water
6:25
Now, I don't want to cover them with water because Michael and I like our oxtails a little on the sticky side
6:33
We like it to really just cook down in that little bit of water
6:37
and it's when we pull them out of the pan, honey, aren't they almost kind of sticky when you pull them up
6:42
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Now, I'm going to throw a few bay leaves in
6:47
How are you coming with your rice, darling? It's cooking. It's cooking
6:51
Okay. All right, Michael. Now, you keep watching that rice because when we come back
6:58
we're finishing up these oxtails. And later... Ah
7:09
Air is fuel. What, mama? Air is fuel. Oh, air is fuel
7:25
Welcome back, y'all
7:37
Today's show is all about food and love. A loving spoonful. And I want to share with y'all the recipe
7:44
that really, really tells Michael how much I love him. All right, Mikey, now you go and check on that rice again
7:54
while I finish up these delicious oxtails. All right, so I'm going to pour a little water over this
8:05
I think that'll do. Now I'm going to cover it with a fall
8:08
I'm going to put these in the oven, and I usually cook them on like 325
8:15
because I want to cook them a little bit slower, and they're going to require three hours
8:24
Because it is a tougher meat. You've got to make sure you cook it long enough for them to get tender
8:30
So what's going on over there, darling? Perfect. Genius at work. You know, it was really funny when Michael and I met
8:39
He said he cooked all the time. All the time. Well, he was raising these two teenagers
8:47
And they said that he was a great cook. But, you know, after we hooked up
8:52
it was like all of a sudden he didn't know what a spoon looked like. You know, he didn't know nothing
9:01
I forgot. I think that was convenient. So we're going to slip these in
9:09
slip those out, and, Michael, is your rice ready, darling? Perfect. Okay
9:16
Well, come on over here with your rice. Oh. Look-a, look-a, look-a
9:31
I'm getting turned on. You're getting turned on? What y'all say over there
9:38
That's some good-looking tail. Well, thank you, baby. You know, I remember as a young girl
9:58
we would intentionally just press all over that ballpark. And I remember the boys saying
10:08
Whistle, Michael. I can't whistle. You can't either. And the boys would do that and they'd holler out
10:19
we wish we had that swing in our backyard. Do y'all remember that one
10:27
What you do to your rice? Oh, perfect. It's just perfect. Here, let me just do this with my hand
10:44
What piece of tail you want? That one right there. That one right there, okay
10:57
Yeah, wow. All right, here's yours, darling. Let me reach in here and get me some rice
11:06
It's perfect, Michael. I know it. It's perfect
11:17
I love the part that swishes the flies. The skinny end. Oh, Mikey
11:31
Would you marry me all over again? I'd do it in a minute. All right
11:37
Ooh, and look, I like butter on my rice. Surprise, surprise. See, this is all our cornflakes
11:51
Mmm. Oh, my God. Look at those
12:01
It's more than just a kiss, y'all. We're gonna start with two sticks of butter
12:10
And then later, breakfast between the sheets. He's got wide shoulders, doesn't he, Kim
12:17
Oh, he's done. Y'all having fun today
12:35
Yes! Are you falling more and more in love with your partner
12:40
Yes! Yes, say yeah, guys. Say yeah. Yeah. Ha, ha, ha, ha
12:46
Well, I'm going to show you how to make a delicate, wonderful little cookie
12:51
with a hidden kiss in the center. So every time your partner eats one of these
12:59
they're going to find your kiss for them inside. We're going to start with two sticks of butter
13:11
And I'm going to add two-thirds a cup of white granulated sugar
13:17
I'm going to add one teaspoon of vanilla. Actually, I think that looks like a half a teaspoon
13:24
And I'm going to add a half a teaspoon of almond flavoring
13:29
And a little bit of it goes a long way. Now, I'm just going to cream this together
13:38
Do y'all remember eating wedding cookies? In my family, my grandmother and my mother called them sand tarts
13:46
But they're like the little wedding cookie. Well, this reminds me very much of that cookie
13:55
Only there's a surprise in the center. All right. Now, I'm going to lower our speed, and I'm going to add one and three-quarters cup of all-purpose flour
14:09
And you can just stir this in, but I've cut down my speed on my mixer to low, which is almost like a stir
14:20
All right. I'm going to stir in about three-quarters of a cup of chopped pecans
14:27
And I'm going in for the kill. with my hands, because this is a stiff dough
14:36
Now, I'm going to take about a tablespoon of this dough, and I'm going to wrap it around a kiss
14:44
If I was making these at home, I would put my dough in the refrigerator
14:49
and let it chill for about an hour. But we don't have that kind of time
14:54
so I going to go ahead and do them straight after the mixing And I putting this on an ungreased cookie sheet Do you know why
15:05
Because it's got two sticks of butter in it. While I'm standing up here wrapping up these kisses
15:13
you know, I've been standing up here giving y'all the dirt on myself. Somebody out there got a story
15:19
I've got a good story. You do? I do. I do. Let me hear it, baby
15:24
Well, me and some of my best friends decided that we were going to go backpacking through Europe
15:29
And unbeknownst to myself, I did not realize that I would find my future wife in Rome, Italy on the Spanish Steps
15:35
You don't mean it. I do. But I did not know that she was going to be my wife
15:39
For another year, I had to meet her again in Key West, Florida. Get out
15:44
And so, for our honeymoon, we went back to Rome, Italy. And I did prepare a nice meal on the rooftop of an apartment in Rome, Italy
15:51
No, you romantic devil, you. We actually lived in the same town and went to college in the same town
15:58
Oh, come on. Yep. We both lived in Raleigh, North Carolina. Come on
16:02
And you didn't know each other there? Mm-mm. You had to go to Italy to meet her
16:06
And then Q.S. Well, you know, you can't help but think that somebody intended for the two of y'all to be together
16:15
I think so. That is an unbelievable story. I got our kisses all wrapped up
16:21
I'm going to put them in the oven, and I'm going to bake them at 375 for about 10 minutes
16:28
But in the meantime, I've got a pan that's ready. Now, you don't want these to get completely cooled
16:44
You want to let them cool on the counter maybe for a couple of minutes
16:48
and then we're going to toss them in powdered sugar. Now are y'all remembering those wedding cookies that Grandma used to make
17:00
Oh, and these are still warm. I was going to say they don't look right
17:16
Look at those. upside down cookies there you go don't those look wonderful
17:23
did you miss it try
17:33
no you're not going try that one girl you try that one baby
17:41
have one darling oh my god Oh, thank you. Would you like one
17:49
Thank you. Would you like one? Would you like one? Certainly. You can't have one because there's none left except for me
18:01
I'll tell you what. Let's do this. Mmm. Out of this world
18:11
Aren't they delicious? It's like candy. Mm-hmm. and you saw how quick and easy I made those
18:19
When we come back, y'all, the food of love. Oysters. Don't go anywhere
18:33
Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. And later, we're going to mix the flour and the baking soda together
18:45
Dump it in there. Sip, sip, sip. No, baby! Welcome back
19:05
Welcome back. If you've just joined us in the last segment, I made a chocolate kiss, a hidden kiss cookie
19:13
Well, we got our little chocolate fix, but now we're going in for the big daddy, and that's the oyster
19:22
Oysters are supposedly the king of all aphrodisiac foods. Well, out here at Uncle Bubba's, my brother cooks up the best oyster I've ever put in my mouth
19:38
And Bubba's right here. He's sitting right here. And speaking of love, who you got with you, Bubba
19:46
I got my little fiance. Bubba just became engaged. y'all
19:57
this is my future sister-in-law Dawn well she's not going to use the microphone
20:04
so I'll leave hey how are y'all perfect one more time hey
20:10
got anything else to say I love you I love you too Dawnetta
20:17
Dawn just fits into the family so perfectly. We had gone on a cruise
20:23
and she was standing up there talking to Bubba. Bubba had dripped food on his clothes
20:31
and she was standing up there just talking to him. She spotted that piece of food
20:37
picked it off and ate it. She said, oh my gosh, I am one of y'all
20:47
Dawn, you fit in perfectly, honey. Thank you. All right. I don't have Bubba's big char griller
20:55
It's over there on the other side of the room. But I do have a char grill here on my stove
21:01
Now, I'm going to take a fresh shucked oyster. Now, these are Louisiana oysters
21:11
And I'm going to put these oysters on the grill. and when you shuck your oysters
21:19
there's an oyster liquor in there. You don't want to lose that liquor
21:24
You want to try to set it so that that liquor is going to stay right in there inside that oyster
21:32
All right, there's only two ingredients that Bubba uses on his oysters
21:38
That's a clarified butter and Parmesan cheese. That's all these oysters need
21:47
This is the very bottle that Uncle Bubba's oysters are squirted with
21:55
I have no hood or anything, y'all. So I'm going to try it, Bubba
22:03
Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh
22:14
Oh, my gracious. It scares me without the use of that hood Bubba Dude We may not have a restaurant by the time I get through with this segment
22:49
Air is fuel. Oh, air is fuel. finish cooking those for me
23:13
Paula I think that one needs a little bit more butter and there's your tongs
23:19
you want me to put it on your ice yes put them on my ice
23:23
All right, did you tell them that we also use garlic in the butter
23:28
No, I forgot. You can tell them. Well, that's what I thought. We also use garlic to taste while we're clarifying the butter
23:35
So don't forget your garlic. And also, when you're using tongs, make sure you've got some about that long
23:42
Oh, yeah. Do this outside for obvious reasons. If you do this at home
23:48
Woo. Thank you, Bubba. Those look delicious, Paula. Yeah, get the ice cube, Bubba
23:56
Whoa. Look at that. All right
24:11
Has the smoke back cleared out, Bubba? It's getting there. You know, the only thing is, when you get through, you might be too tired to do anything with these oysters
24:36
All right. Who's feeling romantical? He's feeling romantical
24:46
Are you feeling romantical? I'm about to. There, take that baby
24:55
Okay. Tell me how romantical you're feeling. Mmm, look at that. It was good, didn't it? Yeah
25:04
Doesn't that look good? Yes, ma'am. Are you married? We're getting married next weekend
25:10
You get out! It's a matter. At Whitfield Chapel. Where you got married
25:15
Bethesda. Yes, ma'am. Oh, that's the sweetest little chapel. His dad's marrying us
25:21
Congratulations. Well, thank you. How wonderful. That was the best wedding I've ever been to
25:28
You know, like my wedding. It was wonderful. All right, now. This is honeymoon fuel, huh
25:37
Honeymoon fuel. I love that. All right, darling. Now, these shells get tremendously hot
25:48
They get as hot as like a Brandon Aaron almost. So blow on that and feed that to your man
26:00
You can't have but one because you're still a week away from the wedding. We'll be right back, y'all
26:07
Up next, fresh raspberries, breakfast in bed. All right, feed us
26:18
In case y'all have just tuned in with us today
26:35
we are having the most romantical time, aren't we, y'all? We're eating all those romantic foods
26:47
We've got a couple. right here that is just one week away from
26:52
the altar. Oh, come on. Come on. Listen. I'm fixing to fix
27:04
one of my favorite foods that I love to feed Michael in bed
27:10
And you know what? I'd like to serve y'all breakfast in bed
27:16
Come on, get up in my bed. Get up there, Jonathan. Take off your shoes
27:21
Unless you normally sleep with shoes on, take them off. Dust your feet off
27:32
Here you go. Are y'all comfortable? Yes, ma'am. Well, Kim, I'm going to share this recipe with you Okay
27:45
That's going to ensure that you and Jonathan are going to have a long, happy marriage together
27:53
Okay. Now listen, y'all behave over here. Okay? Okay. In fact, I'm going to give y'all something to keep yourself busy
28:05
Thank you. How about some truffles? Do you like truffles? I do
28:09
These look great. Do you like fresh strawberries? Yes, ma'am. All right. Now, you lay back and relax, but keep your eye on me, okay
28:16
Okay. You got it. Keep both hands on the outside of the car
28:25
Okay. My favorite meal to serve Michael Grover in bed is a praline French toast
28:34
Now, we're going to start with a loaf of French bread. And I'm going to cut this bread diagonally, maybe about an inch
28:44
And I've got me a casserole dish up here, Kim, that I've buttered very, very well
28:52
Now, I'm going to take our bread, and I'm going to kind of just put it out on top of each other, just like that
29:04
All right. Now I'm going to step over here and I'm going to make our custard
29:09
I'm going to start with eight eggs. All right, now to our eggs I'm going to add two cups of half and half
29:23
and one cup of milk, one tablespoon of vanilla, two or three tablespoons of sugar
29:32
a half a teaspoon of cinnamon, a half a teaspoon of nutmeg
29:43
I'm going to pour this over my French toast. Now I'm going to cover this
29:56
and I'm going to put it in the refrigerator and I'm going to let it
29:59
sit overnight. Now this is what it will look like when you take it out in the morning
30:08
I'm going to top this with a praline goopy stuff. This is butter, brown sugar, pecans, a little cinnamon, and I'm just mixing it together
30:24
and I'm going to spread it over our soaked bread. How are y'all doing over there
30:34
We're good. We're behaving, I promise. You are behaving. Yes, ma'am. Two arms
30:39
Okay, two hands. Are y'all feeling romantical? Yes, ma'am. You're talking about what you're going to be doing a week from now
30:50
All right, now I'm going to put this in the oven and I'm going to let it bake for about 45 minutes
30:56
At 350 degrees. And then I'm going to pull it out and I'm going to serve it with a raspberry syrup
31:06
You all like raspberries? Mmm. All right, so in the oven we go
31:16
Look at that. Is that not sinful? Look at the butter. Look at the..
31:25
Look at that. All that sugar is going to make him so hyper, girl
31:43
Do you see that? it's like an egg custard that's been baked
31:50
around that bread alright y'all watch this you watching Jonathan
32:00
oh yeah alright a little powdered sugar
32:15
A few fresh raspberries, and it's off to the bed we go
32:22
All right, let's see. There we go
32:38
All right Oh wow Look at that Wait I not there yet All right We make room
32:51
He's done. All right, fetus. There you go
33:07
Your turn, huh? That's the business
33:19
Mmm. I think it was the best I've ever had. Is it as good for you
33:29
Oh, it's good. Good. When we come back, y'all, the best wedding cake I've ever put in my mouth
33:38
My own! Oh, no! My handsome groom, Michael
33:48
What a show this has been
34:05
And what better way to end the show with Molly Stone, the cake queen of Savannah, Georgia
34:18
That's what Molly's friends affectionately call her. She made the wedding cake for Michael and me when we were married
34:31
Y'all, this is the exact replica of the cake that she made for Michael and my wedding
34:39
Thank you, Molly. Well, you know, every wedding cake, the top is supposed to be removed, sealed up well
34:52
and you're supposed to share it with your mate on your first anniversary
34:58
Well, Michael and I was out of town on two anniversaries. We still have not eaten the top of our wedding cake
35:07
So, we're going to play a game here. I bet that I can reproduce my wedding cake in four minutes
35:19
I think with my direction you can make it in three That sounds like a challenge but you know what My life ain been nothing but challenge girl
35:30
So I'm going to take you up on it. Hey, Michael, bring your stopwatch out here
35:36
Oh, no! Oh, no! I love you
35:51
I love you too. Molly, you take over. What about mine? Hey, Michael, these are beautiful
36:03
I picked them myself. Did you? Yes. I just love you. Thank you
36:11
I'm going to lay them right there. What a wonderful surprise. And you're so dressed up
36:16
Well, this is normal for me. Well, get over here, baby. Stand right over here by me
36:21
because I'm fixing to try to make this cake, get it in the oven in three minutes
36:26
Go. Okay. Three minutes. What do I need, Molly? Sugar. Dump it, baby girl. Whoa
36:37
Alright, what do I need now, Molly? Baking soda. Baking soda. Come right here, darling
36:45
What do I need now? Flour. Come on, flour. Alright. We're going to mix the flour and the baking soda together
36:54
Dump it in there. Sift, sift, sift. No, baby! Oh, my way to blow it
37:03
I'm sorry. That's all right. All right, come on. Get around here and see if you can do it
37:10
All right, sift that and then put it in here for me. One minute, six seconds
37:15
One minute, six seconds. All right, that's pretty good. All right. What do I need next, Molly
37:21
Turn that thing off. All right, eggs. Eggs, where are the eggs
37:27
Ready, ready. Dump them in here, baby. Sour cream. Sour cream. Who's got the sour cream
37:33
All right, Jack's back. Whoa. Spoon that out for me, honey. What
37:39
Orange extract. Okay. Almond extract. Who's got the almond? How much time do I have, Michael
37:49
One minute and 45 seconds. What? Well, I didn't have but one minute and five seconds a while ago
37:59
Okay, that's enough. Turn it off. Okay, here we go. Two minutes Boy Heidi this ain the way my grandma would do it It new age All right there we go
38:13
How much I got? Two minutes and 45 seconds. Two minutes and 45 seconds
38:20
15 seconds. Oh, that's what I've used up. I got 15 seconds
38:24
Does that look perfect or what, Molly? No. Five seconds. No. Four, three, two, one
38:32
Not bad, Paula. It even looks a good consistency
38:44
Look at that. It's perfect. Yeah. Molly, you're the best, baby. Thank you
38:52
All right, so are you. And that's all it takes. And Michael
39:00
do you know what we have missed? What? We've been married two years
39:06
Do you remember eating the top layer of our wedding cake? No. That's because you didn't
39:12
Do you know we were out of town on both anniversaries? Well, guess what I have here for us
39:19
Oh, great. This is the top to our wedding cake. Whoa. Look, and it's still got a piece from the flowers that were on top
39:33
So what you say that we end our time together with our friends by having our wedding cake
39:44
my goodness look where the flowers were stuck y'all look
39:58
it looks as good as it did though two years ago well y'all bring on the cake for the audience applause applause applause applause
40:14
Do you know what? What? I would marry you all over again
40:24
Well, I'd marry you in a minute. Thank you all so much for being with us
40:36
Until next time, love and best dishes from our kitchen to yours
40:44
Thank you
