- Spring and summer here in Savannah is coming full blast
0:08
And there's a couple of things that we like to do
0:12
when the weather turn starts turning warm
0:16
and we've got a rocking chair
0:17
and we've got a porch to sit on, we love to sit and rock
0:21
and have our lemonade.
0:23
And for those that wanna make it an adult beverage,
0:29
can very easily add, You'd add vodka, wouldn't you, Eddie?
0:36
- [Eddie] I do either.
0:39
So this is a great pitcher of a delicious lemonade
0:44
to have in your refrigerator.
0:46
And caution, it's very, very sweet.
0:50
So this is actually a vanilla lemonade,
0:56
so we're gonna start, oh gosh,
1:02
does that ever smell good.
1:04
Between this, the mint and the lime?
1:11
All right, so what we wanna do is,
1:14
I'm cutting that in half
1:16
so I can have better control over it y'all.
1:19
But what we're doing is splitting
1:23
our bean down the center, just like that.
1:42
I'm just working to get it open
1:50
And then I'm gonna take my knife
1:56
and I'm gonna scrape down that vanilla bean.
2:02
That's where the flavor comes from, y'all.
2:10
So that is going in our pot
2:16
because we have a lot of sugar that we've gotta melt.
2:27
Alright, so it calls for one vanilla bean.
2:53
That goes in the pot.
2:56
Alright, now we've got one quart of water
3:02
and we are gonna put in,
3:08
we've got measuring cups, two cups and two cups.
3:11
So I'm putting the one cup in to cook
3:17
our sugar and our vanilla.
3:22
We're gonna add our sugar
3:25
and all those flavors are gonna come together.
3:28
And we have three cups y'all
3:31
of fresh squeeze lemon juice.
3:34
And I highly, highly, highly recommend
3:38
that you use fresh lemon juice.
3:40
It just makes all the difference in the world, y'all.
3:44
That artificial stuff
3:45
that you buy in the grocery store.
3:52
To me it just tastes artificial.
4:01
I was planning on juicing that
4:05
with my Uncle Bob's electric juicer
4:07
and it works like a charm.
4:09
But Theresa says she did that all by hand.
4:12
Three cups of lemon juice
4:14
- [Theresa] And it's about four pounds of lemons.
4:17
- Four pounds of lemons.
4:19
Way to go. Girl. She must have been bored last night.
4:22
- [Theresa] I was watching you,.
4:26
Well, you got your muscles going, don't you?
4:31
So we're gonna let this cook for about two minutes.
4:34
I've added my two cups of water to the pitcher
4:37
and now I'm adding my three cups of lemon juice.
4:41
And when our sugar and vanilla cools off,
4:46
I'm gonna be adding that.
4:47
We're gonna be ready to have Kool-Aid.
4:50
I mean not Kool-Aid, lemonade.
4:53
The best lemonade in town
4:57
with a little vanilla kick.
5:00
It's ready to marry the two together now.
5:12
I removed our vanilla beans.
5:22
Wow, and to make a truly good lemonade, y'all,
5:32
It requires much more sugar
5:35
than if you were making a pitcher of iced tea.
5:44
You can see the tiny specs of vanilla.
5:53
How pretty is that? How pretty is that?
6:00
Put that lime down in there
6:03
where it can soak up a little lime juice.
6:08
It's time for me to go find the rocking chair, Eddie.
6:13
Yes, love and best drinks y'all.
