- Hey, Eddie and I thought today that instead of cooking,
0:04
we are gonna do things that you need
0:07
to cook with, like copper.
0:12
and when it's outside and it patinas, it's beautiful.
0:17
But I don't necessarily want my pots and pans to patina.
0:21
You know this, when I first came out
0:28
I told them that my mother had cooked on Revere Ware
0:33
and it was great, but I had noticed over the years,
0:36
the quality really went down on it
0:39
and I said, "I would like to do one with the quality
0:43
that this used to have."
0:45
My favorite set that I ever produced.
0:49
And you know what? It didn't sell very well.
0:54
'cause people get more the responsibility
0:56
of having to keep it clean.
0:59
So we're gonna share a few tips with you today
1:03
in case you don't have any professional
1:05
copper cleaner with you.
1:06
So now this is one of the things that Eddie does.
1:09
I have never done this,
1:12
so I'm really happy he shared this with me.
1:14
We've got two cups of vinegar and two, white-
1:19
- White vinegar, yep. - White vinegar
1:21
and two tablespoons of kosher salt.
1:25
- [Eddie] Yeah, so this pan was just done.
1:30
- Yeah, look how pretty that is.
1:33
And so once you get 'em clean,
1:34
you know, it's not hard to keep up with it.
1:39
So we'll just let that,
1:42
you can see it's already starting to work.
1:46
And Eddie said, you know, just a few minutes.
1:49
Can I turn that heat down or does it
1:51
need to be rolling boiling? - Yeah.
1:55
- So like I said, I just adore copper.
1:59
And in our other house, we had copper sinks,
2:04
and oh, my goodness, it was hard.
2:09
And then one day, I got a tip from somebody,
2:14
I can't remember who, but they told me to try ketchup.
2:19
So I would squirt that sink with ketchup
2:25
So here's what this is going to look like.
2:28
Now this is a real old, old piece of my copper,
2:33
and I had it retained so I can cook with it,
2:36
but for some reason I just,
2:42
I guess I don't wanna have to clean it. (laughs)
2:45
But I want you to see now this has been sitting with ketchup
2:51
and like I said, if you don't have any copper cleaner,
2:57
you can do the ketchup thing.
3:04
when I am using ketchup.
3:08
(ketchup bottle sputters) This one hadn't been cleaned
3:11
This one hadn't been cleaned in a long time,
3:14
so it's probably going to take some elbow grease.
3:18
How's that one coming, Eddie?
3:20
Oh, my gosh, it's looking good.
3:29
So the longer you wait in between cleaning,
3:31
the harder it's gonna be.
3:34
But like I said, once you do it, you can,
3:40
you know, just every time you use it,
3:42
maybe hit it with some steel wool
3:47
and you'll have it bright and shiny looking like new.
3:50
- [Eddie] Yeah, and you know,
3:51
like this hot water urn
3:54
- Uh-huh. - I cleaned back before,
3:58
you know, maybe November. - Back before Christmas.
4:03
It was bad. - It was like a penny,
4:07
that dark copper. - It was bad.
4:09
- [Eddie] So that has held up really well,
4:12
but you know, it doesn't get any, you don't touch it.
4:15
- That's right. That's right. - You don't put water on it.
4:19
- And let's see, I think this is the last
4:29
This is perfect for the bottoms of your pots and pans.
4:32
- Yeah. - That's just a perfect tip.
4:35
All right, now I'll take a lemon.
4:41
And you really want to use kosher salt
4:47
because it's a grainier
4:50
and it'll be rougher when you rub it.
4:57
To me, this one takes more elbow grease than all of them.
5:00
But if you in a hurry at the last minute
5:03
and you don't want people coming in
5:05
and seeing your copper so tarnished,
5:08
just pull out an old lemon
5:12
and some kosher salt and get to scrubbing.
5:20
I think that would be last resort, maybe the ketchup and...
5:25
- [Paula] Yes, absolutely.
5:28
- [Eddie] This really only works if you want to get,
5:31
you know, get the base of something.
5:34
It wouldn't do for an entire piece.
5:37
But you know, you could,
5:38
if you had plenty of vinegar and plenty of salt,
5:42
you could make a big pot - Oh yeah, sure.
5:44
- and just sit the whole pot down in there.
5:46
I think that would be so worth it
5:47
'cause vinegar's not expensive.
5:56
than those expensive...
5:59
Oh, no, I didn't want that.
6:01
What did I do? Oh, here it is.
6:18
That is beautiful, Eddie.
6:25
I wonder how I never knew about this tip.
6:27
You and I've never, never talked about this one.
6:36
Like I said, so if you want to spruce up your copper
6:39
and you don't have any copper cleaner,
6:43
these three things will help you get there.
6:46
No, four things. Yeah, no three things.
6:48
The ketchup, the lemon and kosher salt and the vinegar.
6:52
Two cups of vinegar to two tablespoons of kosher salt.
6:57
And just let that ketchup sit for a little while,
7:04
and it'll be sparkly clean before you know it.
7:10
Have a good, good day.
7:12
And now go find something to cook in those pots.
7:15
How about that? (laughs)
7:18
So I just wanted to show y'all before and after.
7:28
