- Hey y'all.
0:03
I know that y'all have always enjoyed the tours
0:06
that we do at home,
0:08
so I'm gonna give y'all a tour of the Lady and Sons.
0:11
Those of you that have not been here in the past 20 years,
0:16
or maybe 21 years.
0:18
We spent five years down the street on Congress Street
0:22
and then this building came available for sale
0:25
and we took the leap.
0:28
The building's over 200 years old and we tried to leave
0:32
as much of the architectural mechanical things
0:36
that we could.
0:37
And this is one of my favorites right here, Eddie.
0:41
And I think this was worked as a pulley,
0:45
like for the elevator.
0:48
And I can't remember what this building was originally
0:53
used for- - Besides the hardware store.
0:55
- When we bought it, the last business that was in here
0:58
was White's hardware. (coughs)
1:01
But like I said, the building is 200 years old.
1:06
So, (coughs) I've got a frog in my throat.
1:09
This is my favorite area over here.
1:13
It's just cozy.
1:15
A place for a couple to have a drink
1:20
and talk sweet nothings to each other.
1:25
Like this couple right here,
1:26
maybe they're talking sweet nothings.
1:29
Are y'all talking sweet nothings?
1:31
Oh, yay.
1:33
Well, do tell, do tell.
1:36
- Okay, we're on vacation. - Where y'all from?
1:39
- We're from South Carolina, from Columbia.
1:43
And she's 15 months pregnant.
1:45
- 15 months?
1:46
- I mean 15 weeks.
1:49
- I was gonna say 15 months?
1:50
You're having a elephant. (laughs)
1:55
- Yeah, this is our last vacation before the baby comes.
1:57
- Okay, is this y'all's first one?
1:58
- It is.
1:59
- Congratulations.
2:01
- This our last little vacation before we have baby.
2:04
- Oh, that's wonderful.
2:05
- [Lauren] We planned it before we found out, so.
2:07
- Oh, you had it booked before y'all found out?
2:09
- Yeah. - That you were pregnant.
2:11
- Looking forward to coming down here and drinking a little.
2:13
(everyone laughs)
2:14
- Oh, well, that put a nix on that, didn't it?
2:16
- A little bit, yeah.
2:19
- Well what is y'all's names?
2:21
- I'm Dakota.
2:22
This is Lauren. - I'm Lauren.
2:23
- Oh, oh, oh, I love that, you're Dakota.
2:25
I love that.
2:27
I love that name.
2:30
There's an actor named Dakota, isn't it?
2:33
Is there an actor or actress?
2:35
- [Lauren] Dakota Fanning?
2:36
- Yeah, Dakota Fanning.
2:37
- Yeah, I guess that's who I'm thinking about.
2:39
But that's a great name.
2:41
So when is y'all's baby due?
2:43
- It's due in January. - January.
2:46
- Gonna be a little girl.
2:48
- [Paula] Oh, it is?
2:49
- Yeah.
2:49
- Well you know what?
2:50
I was born in January and I was a little girl.
2:53
So-
2:54
- If she's anything like you we'll be happy.
2:56
- Oh, thank you.
2:58
Have her on the 19th.
3:00
- The 19th, okay.
3:01
- Okay, we'll hold out, yes.
3:04
- Well, I'm just so happy for y'all
3:07
and hope the heat's not been too bad for you.
3:10
- Not too bad, yeah.
3:13
- Just (indistinct) a little bit.
3:14
(everyone laughs)
3:16
- Well, good luck to y'all.
3:18
Thank y'all so much for coming in.
3:19
- Thank you.
3:21
Glad we stopped by.
3:22
- Good.
3:23
And letting me horn in on y'all's date.
3:27
- No problem, any time.
3:30
- Bye, bye.
3:33
All right, Eddie.
3:37
We can come up here and see pictures of the family.
3:43
Of course my sons and my two daughter-in-laws
3:45
and then Michael and me.
3:47
And down here on this wall we are so blessed
3:53
to have art by Bob Christian.
3:57
Bob Christian is a very well known decorative artist.
4:03
He and I are both from Albany.
4:05
Both of us live here in Savannah.
4:07
And so I've had the privilege of having a lot of his art.
4:12
It's just wonderful being his friend.
4:16
But I think there's a lot of Bob Christian here, isn't it?
4:20
- [Eddie] I love, I love the ones in this dining room
4:23
in here.
4:23
- Yes. - The kind of whimsical...
4:26
- All right, now this, this is the awning from 311,
4:34
our very first restaurant downtown.
4:37
And it meant a lot to us so we couldn't,
4:43
we just couldn't leave it, we had to bring it with us.
4:48
And I told my boys, I said, (laughs) when they hung this
4:54
the S was kind of hanging off just a little bit.
4:58
They had not mashed it down good.
5:01
And I said, okay, boys, you know if y'all don't work hard
5:05
and help me, it's coming off. (laughs)
5:09
They didn't think that was funny.
5:12
So I love the colors in here.
5:16
They're very peaceful.
5:18
And all the paintings on this wall
5:21
are also Bob Christian paintings.
5:26
So tell everybody where you're from, what your names are.
5:34
How did y'all wind up here?
5:37
- My name is Maryanne Evans and we wound up here
5:40
because I wanted to see Lady and Sons.
5:44
Because I just follow, we follow you guys
5:47
and I really wanted to see it.
5:49
So when we were planning vacation, we planned to come here.
5:53
- [Paula] Yay.
5:53
- And we went to Charleston first
5:55
and then we ended here and we're thrilled.
5:58
The food is delicious. - Oh, thank you.
6:00
- I mean it's such a dream come true.
6:00
- Thank you so much.
6:02
Well, I thank y'all so much for coming.
6:05
And y'all need some more drinks, don't you?
6:09
- I'm good.
6:10
- You're good, but-
6:11
(diners talking)
6:13
- What was your favorite?
6:14
What was your favorite thing?
6:16
- I bought the salad dressing because it's delicious.
6:19
- Our salad dressing is so good.
6:22
- Oh my gosh.
6:23
- You're talking about the (indistinct).
6:26
- I bought that and I'm gonna go back down
6:28
and get the biscuit mix, is that down there?
6:32
- Oh my gosh, that biscuit mix is so incredible.
6:35
Just make sure you use buttermilk to make it.
6:38
And I like to mix mine up and then pour it out.
6:41
Here, we use an ice cream scoop so that every biscuit
6:44
will be about the same size, but I like to knead it
6:50
with some extra flour and pat it out
6:54
and then use a biscuit cutter.
6:57
- Okay. - But you can do it
6:58
either way. - But it's not (indistinct).
7:00
So I can do it.
7:01
- You can do it honey, you can do it.
7:03
Eddie, I am looking at six beautiful children.
7:09
Or is it seven?
7:10
She is, she's the oldest child do you think?
7:13
(mom laughs)
7:16
I've just got to know, are all these your children?
7:19
- They are.
7:21
- [Paula] You gave birth to every one of 'em.
7:22
- I did, with the help of-
7:24
- [Paula] And you're so tiny.
7:26
Come in here, here's the hero. (laughs)
7:32
- Welcome.
7:33
- [Paula] Oh my goodness.
7:35
All right, so is there any twins?
7:37
- No twins. - No twins.
7:39
- All two years apart about.
7:43
- [Paula] You look so young.
7:44
- Oh, well, thank you.
7:46
- [Paula] All right, so what's your age baby?
7:50
- 11. - 11?
7:52
- Five.
7:53
- [Paula] Oh, come on.
7:54
Come on, Superman, you can't be five.
7:57
How old are you darling?
7:58
- Nine. - Nine.
8:00
- 13.
8:00
- 14.
8:01
- Seven.
8:02
- All two years apart (indistinct).
8:05
- [Paula] This is a beautiful, beautiful family.
8:07
Where are y'all from?
8:09
- North Carolina.
8:11
- That's God's country.
8:15
It's a state that's in the south that has four seasons.
8:18
- That's right.
8:19
- We have two here.
8:20
Hot and hotter. (laughs)
8:23
Well I hope y'all enjoy your meal.
8:28
Our mac and cheese is mighty good, Superman.
8:32
- He loves, all of 'em love mac and cheese.
8:35
- (laughs) Well y'all enjoy and I thank you so much
8:38
for coming in and and sharing your beautiful family with us.
8:42
- We're excited to be here. - Thank you.
8:44
- [Mom] Yes, thank you, nice to meet you.
8:46
- Where y'all from?
8:47
- Charleston, South Carolina.
8:50
- [Paula] Our sister city.
8:52
- Yep, pretty much.
8:53
- And you know what they say?
8:56
And I bet they say the exact opposite in Charleston.
9:02
Savannanians have been known to say,
9:05
yes, Charleston is our sister city,
9:08
they just happen to be the ugly sister. (laughs)
9:13
And I bet Charlestonians say yes, Savannah's our sister
9:17
city, they just happen to be the ugly sister, right?
9:20
(Paula laughs)
9:21
- I've never heard that.
9:23
Everyone I talked to says, you gotta go visit Savannah.
9:26
- Well Charleston, I wanted so badly to open a restaurant
9:30
in Charleston.
9:32
I have a, I have,
9:37
I don't know how many removed grandfathers he was,
9:41
but he actually landed in Charleston.
9:44
- Wow.
9:45
- Dr. Paul.
9:47
And so I've always felt a connection to Charleston.
9:52
It's a beautiful place.
9:54
- It is. - Yeah.
9:56
- It's absolutely gorgeous.
9:57
- Well I hope y'all enjoyed your meal today.
9:59
- Oh my god.
10:01
- Thank you.
10:02
- (indistinct) my grandmother was always watching
10:03
your shows.
10:05
- Oh my goodness.
10:06
Well I so appreciate y'all coming.
10:08
Couldn't have made it over the last 20 years
10:11
without this elevator.
10:13
Of course no employees are allowed to use the elevator.
10:16
We all have to use the stairs.
10:18
But it's helped us so much in getting our guests
10:23
to where they need to go.
10:24
And the walls in here
10:32
are to me so beautiful.
10:36
Bob Christian did this and it was the way he did
10:41
our first restaurant down the street at Congress Street.
10:45
And we just loved it.
10:47
We thought it was just such a,
10:49
had such a nice southern ladies touch.
10:53
And so we did without it for quite a few years.
10:56
And finally we decided we could not stand it.
11:00
We're going to have to go back to our original look
11:03
to go along with Bob's paintings.
11:07
I adore it.
11:09
So Eddie, look who I ran into as we were leaving
11:13
to go back over to the chicken box.
11:15
I met a bride.
11:17
- Yes. - A bride with a birthday.
11:20
- Yes.
11:21
- And another birthday.
11:21
And I wanted to know if there was any other
11:24
special occasions going on with this group.
11:28
So what's your name bride?
11:30
- My name is Bree.
11:31
- Bree. - Yeah.
11:32
- And where are y'all from?
11:35
- Little bit north of Atlanta.
11:36
So it's Dawson County.
11:38
- Yes, north Georgia where it's beautiful.
11:41
- Yes, absolutely.
11:42
- And a little bit cooler, right?
11:44
- Yes, yes.
11:45
- Now what are y'all, are y'all bridesmaids?
11:48
- I'm maid of honor.
11:50
- Okay, and you and Bree share a birthday?
11:52
- Yes we do.
11:53
- That's wonderful.
11:53
- Yeah.
11:55
- And where is mama?
11:57
- Mama unfortunately is not with us
11:59
but she has her stand in aunties here with her.
12:02
- Oh, that's wonderful.
12:03
So y'all two are, you know what?
12:06
I lost my mother when I was 23 years old, Bree.
12:09
- I was 21, yeah.
12:11
- And I had an aunt, my aunt Peggy.
12:15
- Yep.
12:16
- If you watch my YouTube shows, and she has been
12:20
so wonderfully supportive of me over the years.
12:24
So these two aunts, I know how important they are to you.
12:28
- They are, I couldn't do it without 'em for sure.
12:30
- I know, and thank goodness for 'em.
12:33
- Yeah, yes.
12:34
- Well, when's the wedding?
12:36
- September 9th.
12:38
- That's soon.
12:39
(everyone laughs)
12:43
- Where's David's little head?
12:48
- Is this the bride groom?
12:50
- Yes. - Yes, this is the groom.
12:51
- This is the man.
12:53
- Well, hi bridegroom.
12:54
(everyone laughs)
12:56
Just the kind of husband I like.
12:57
He don't talk.
12:59
- There you go.
13:00
- And will you say hi to her stepdad Michael?
13:03
He's on the phone.
13:04
- Hello stepdad, Michael
13:07
- Do you know who you're talking to?
13:08
- No, I don't. - No I don't.
13:09
- This is Paula Deen.
13:12
- [Michael] Yeah.
13:13
(everyone laughs)
13:16
- Your father always has perfect timing.
13:19
- Michael, I'm serious, this is Paula Deen.
13:22
(everyone laughs)
13:23
- And you can watch (indistinct) Michael.
13:26
- [Michael] (indistinct) and I don't believe
13:27
you've ever been on TV.
13:28
- Oh my gosh.
13:30
Well, we're filming, we're filming for YouTube.
13:33
My YouTube channel.
13:34
- [Michael] Now you sound like Paula Deen.
13:36
- Well ain't that funny? (everyone laughs)
13:39
That's funny how I sound like her.
13:43
So you can see this on YouTube on the Paul Deen channel
13:49
and you can see that nobody was pulling your leg.
13:54
(everyone laughs)
13:56
Well, good luck to y'all.
13:57
Have a wonderful, wonderful wedding.
14:00
- Thank you. - Thank you.
14:01
- And thank y'all for coming in.
14:02
- I appreciate it.
14:05
- Bye.
14:07
- Bye.
14:08
- Well y'all, that kind of wraps up the tour.
14:10
I hope y'all have enjoyed it.
14:12
Like I said, I know that y'all enjoy the ones that we have
14:14
at the house.
14:16
So this is our second home.
14:20
So hope you enjoyed.
14:22
